Video Object Segmentation using Kernel Density Estimation and Spatio-temporal Coherence

A video segmentation algorithm, which can extract objects even with non-stationary backgrounds, is proposed in this work. The proposed algorithm is composed of three steps. First, we perform an initial segmentation interactively to build the probability density functions of colors per each macro block via kernel density estimation. Then, for each subsequent frame, we construct a coherence strip, which is likely to contain the object contour, by exploiting spatio-temporal correlations. Finally, we perform the segmentation by minimizing an energy function composed of color, coherence, and smoothness terms. Experimental results on various test sequences show that the proposed algorithm provides accurate segmentation results.
On-chip Power Supply Noise Measurement Circuit with 2.06mV/count Resolution

This paper describes measurement of an on-ship power supply noise in mixed-signal integrated circuits. To measure the on-chip power supply noise, we can check the effects of analog circuits and compensate it. This circuit consists of two independent measurement channels, each consisting of a sample and hold circuit and a frequency to digital converter which has a buffer and voltage controlled oscillator(VCO). The time-based voltage information and frequency-based power spectrum density(PSD) can be achieved by a simple analog to digital conversion scheme. The buffer works like a unit-gain buffer with a wide bandwidth and VCO has a high gain to improve resolution. This circuit was fabricated in a 0.18um CMOS technology and has 2.06mV/count. Proxy Mobile IP in IETF is a network-based mobility management scheme to solve the problem of host-based mobility management scheme, Mobile IP. PMIP shows the better performance in the aspect of mobility, but PMIP, as a legacy of Mobile IP based on "best effort service", lacks of consideration of QoS. In this thesis, a novel mobility support scheme is proposed for mobility and QoS support based on PMIP in MPLS networks.

Ohmic contact formation and etching processes for the fabrication of MBE (molecular beam epitaxy) grown GaSb-based p-channel HEMT devices on Si substrate have been studied. Firstly, mesa etching process was established for device isolation, based on both HF-based wet etching and ICP-based dry etching. Raptor FEC Based Channel-Adaptive Video Transmission Scheme over WiBro Network

The packet loss and the disconnection during handoff are the most critical problems which degrade the video quality in wireless video streaming. To cope with these problems, we propose an efficient video streaming method in this paper, which does not only dynamically adjust the video transmission rate based on the raptor forward error correction (FEC) level, but also minimize the error propagation during handoff. Firstly, the channel bandwidth of the wireless broadband internet, called WiBro, is estimated by analyzing channel parameters including the carrier to interference and noise ratio (CINR) and the handoff. Secondly, the streaming server adjusts the next transmission rate according to the estimated channel bandwidth and the raptor FEC level to avoid packet error. Also, the encoder performs the intra refresh method that inserts an intra frame (I-frame) right after handoff to reduce the error propagation effectively. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method can improve the performance of the video streaming over WiBro network.

In this study, nanopower ZnO and
as sensing materials were prepared by hydrazine and hydrothermal routes, respectively, and were doped with Pd, Ru catalyst. The CO and
sensors were fabricated by coating of sensing materials on the MEMS-based structure with electrodes and heaters. The 0.1 wt% Pd doped
sensor and Ru doped ZnO sensor showed the high sensor response to CO 30 ppm and
1 ppm, respectively. The sensor signal was stable. This can be used for the detection of pollutant gases emitted from gasoline engine.
Implementation of the Timbre-based Emotion Recognition Algorithm for a Healthcare Robot Application

This paper deals with feeling recognition from people's voice to fine feature vectors. Voice signals include the people's own information and but also people's feelings and fatigues. So, many researches are being progressed to fine the feelings from people's voice. In this paper, We analysis Selectable Mode Vocoder(SMV) that is one of the standard 3GPP2 codecs of ETSI. From the analyzed result, we propose voices features for recognizing feelings. And then, feeling recognition algorithm based on gaussian mixture model(GMM) is proposed. It uses feature vectors is suggested. We verify the performance of this algorithm from changing the mixture component.
Design of Image Data Transmitter for Mobile Display Digital Interface

This paper describes the design of image data transmitter for portable media device for Mobile Display Digital Interface standard. The transmitter uses connection lines to 6 to transmit QVGA image data. In this paper, the transmitter is using only 9 packets for image processing and a state-machine based design is adapted for packet processing. The design was verified using FPGA Xilinx virtex4-LX60. Data rate of the transmitter is 363Mbps with six connection lines. The transferring capability is 30 frame of 24bit RGB 500,000 pixel image data per second.
Design of PCS with two stage pipelining 64B/66B Encoder/Decoder

In this paper, to implement PCS (Physical Coding Sublayer) of 10GBASE-R type, we present 2 stage pipeline 64b/66b Encoder/Decoder which operates at 156.25MHz standard specification and designed to minimize clock latency as possible as we can. The proposed circuit was designed based on Verilog hardware description language and measured for functional verification on VertexII-1000fg456 chip of Xilinx Inc.. Total equivalent gate count is 47,303 and estimated power consumption is 351mW at Vcc 3.3V.
A Design of Power Management IC for CCD Image Sensor

The power management integrated circuit(PMIC) for CCD image sensor is presented in this study. A CCD image sensor is very sensitive against temperature. The temperature, that is heat, is generally generated by the PMIC with low efficiency. Since the generated heat influences performance of CCD image sensor, it should be minimized by using a PMIC which has a high efficiency. In order to develop the PMIC with high efficiency, the input stage is designed with synchronous type step down DC-DC converter. The operating range of the converter is from 5V to 15V and the converter is controlled using PWM method. The PWM control circuit consists of a saw-tooth generator, a band-gap reference circuit, an error amplifier and a comparator circuit. The saw-tooth generator is designed with 1.2MHz oscillation frequency. The comparator is designed with the two stages OP Amp. And the error amplifier has 40dB DC gain and
phase margin. The output of the step down converter is connected to input stage of the charge pump. The output of the charge pump is connected to input of the LDO which is the output stage of the PMIC. Finally, the PMIC, based on the PWM control circuit and the charge pump and the LDO, has output voltage of 15V, -7.5V, 3.3V and 5V. The PMIC is designed with a 0.35um process.
Visible Light Wireless Communication Link Using LEDs

In this paper, We propose the visible light communication(VLC) link based on white light emitting diode (LED) and Photo detector(PD). The proposed architecture is demonstrated experimentally and its performance is verified through the experimental results of quality-factor(Q-factor) and eye pattern of 10Mb/s PRBS signal. The ambient light effect from a typical type fluorescent lamp source was also analyzed. when the distance between the LED and the PD is about 1m, error free wireless transmission of the LED was achieved up to 10Mb/s data rate. Under the condition with ambient light, low BER, data transmission of the VLC link is achieved up to 5Mb/s data rate at 1m. Also, when the PD is placed away from the center, low BER data transmission of the VLC link is achieved up to 1Mb/s at 10cm and 10Mb/s at 5cm.
Relay Deployment Strategy for Minimizing Outage Probability of Downlink Cellular Systems

The cellular system in the next generation decreases the range of transmission of a signal as well as increases the rate of transmission adapting the method of multi-hop relaying with the relay. However, the fact of decreasing the range of transmission with the method of multi-hop relaying means increasing interferential amount in the outer cell; therefore, the deployment of the relay can affect to the function of the cellular system. In this thesis, the deployment of the relay is determined for the maximum rate of transmission, based on the transmission power of the relay and the variation of interferential amount. The condition to determine the deployment of the relay is analyzed with the mathematical model; in addition, its performance is verified through the result of a simulation. Based on the analysis of this thesis, the established deployment and transmission power of the relay to minimize the average outage probability exist. Furthermore, the relay contributes to enlargement of capacity of cells, decreasing the average outage probability in the situation of less severe interference between cells with reuse of frequency. However, the relay should be restrained in use in the situation of severe interference between cells due to the fact that the outage probability of inter-cells can be increased.
A Study on Novel Step Up-Down DC/DC Chopper of Isolated Type with High Efficiency

This paper is analyzed for a step up-down DC/DC chopper of high efficiency added electric isolation. The converters of high efficiency are generally made that the power loss of the used semiconductor switching devices is minimized. To achieve high efficiency system, the proposed chopper is constructed by using a partial resonant circuit. The control switches using in the chopper are operated with soft switching by partial resonant method. The control switches are operated without increasing their voltage and current stresses by the soft switching technology. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of the chopper is high. The proposed chopper is also added electric isolation which is used a pulse transformer. When the power conversion system is required electric isolation, the proposed chopper is adopted with the converter system development of high efficiency. The soft switching operation and the system efficiency of the proposed chopper are verified by digital simulation and experimental results.
Diversification of User Authentication by Writing Applet on Java Card

Recently, IC cards are used to protect personal information and to have user verification. Among them, the usage of Java Cards which can contain applications after issuing are increasing and installing several applets on Java card is possible. When Java Cards are used, applet works after completing user identification. In this paper, we designed, embodied and verified the mechanism of user identification process according to PIN setting of applets; Stored_PIN, Install_PIN and Update_PIN. These several applications of Java cards will be used for user identification independently or multiply, while using diverse user identification.
Characteristics of Random Jitter in Analog Fiber-Optic Links Employing a Mach-Zehnder Modulator and an EDFA

We investigate the characteristics of RJ (random jitter) in an analog fiber-optic link employing a MZM (Mach-Zehnder modulator) and an EDFA (Erbium-doped fiber amplifier). RJ has been measured using two methods, one of which derived from the noise spectrum of a RF spectrum analyzer and the other from the histogram data of a sampling oscilloscope. If the optical power and/or the RF power input to the MZM increase, RJ decreases due to the output signal power increase. For the optical link without EDFA, the minimum RJ is about 1 ps at an RF power of 10 dBm and an optical power of 8 dBm measured using the noise spectrum method. For the optical link with an EDFA, RJ decreases toward a jitter floor as the EDFA gain increases. If the gain increases further, it has been observed that RJ increases from the minimum. If the EDFA gain is fixed, RJ is smaller for the case of larger optical input power. As the EDFA gain increases, RJ reduction rate becomes greater for the case of lower optical input power.

Design of High Performance Dual Channel Pipelined Interpolators for H.264 Decoder

The motion compensation is the most time-consuming and complex unit in the H.264 decoder. The performance of the motion compensation is determined by the calculation of pixel interpolation. The quarter-pixel interpolation is achieved using 6-tap horizontal or vertical FIR filters for luminance data and bilinear FIR filters for chroma data. We propose the architecture for interpolation of luminance and chroma data in H.264 decoders. It is composed of dual-channel pipelined processing elements and can interpolate integer-, half- and quarter-pixel data. The number of the processing cycles is different depending on the position. The processing elements are composed of adders and shifters to reduce the complexity while the accuracy of the pixel data are maintained. We design interpolators for luminance and chroma data using Verilog-HDL and verify the function and performance by implementing using an FPGA.
Image Contrast and Sunlight Readability Enhancement for Small-sized Mobile Display

Recently the CPU performance of modem chipsets or multimedia processors of mobile phone is as high as notebook PC. That is why mobile phone has been emerged as a leading ICON on the convergence of consumer electronics. The various applications of mobile phone such as DMB, digital camera, video telephony and internet full browsing are servicing to consumers. To meet all the demands the image quality has been increasingly important. Mobile phone is a portable device which is widely using in both the indoor and outside environments, so it is needed to be overcome to deteriorate image quality depending on environmental light source. Furthermore touch window is popular on the mobile display panel and it makes contrast loss because of low transmittance of ITO film. This paper presents the image enhancement algorithm to be embedded on image enhancement SoC. In contrast enhancement, we propose Clipped histogram stretching method to make it adaptive with the input images, while S-shape curve and gain/offset method for the static application And CIELCh color space is used to sunlight readability enhancement by controlling the lightness and chroma components which is depended on the sensing value of light sensor. Finally the performance of proposed algorithm is evaluated by using histogram, RGB pixel distribution, entropy and dynamic range of resultant images. We expect that the proposed algorithm is suitable for image enhancement of embedded SoC system which is applicable for the small-sized mobile display.
