Design of Variable Gain Receiver Front-end with Wide Gain Variable Range and Low Power Consumption for 5.25 GHz

We design a CMOS front-end with wide variable gain and low power consumption for 5.25 GHz band. To obtain wide variable gain range, a p-type metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (PMOS FET) in the low noise amplifier (LNA) section is connected in parallel. For a mixer, single balanced and folded structure is employed for low power consumption. Using this structure, the bias currents of the transconductance and switching stages in the mixer can be separated without using current bleeding path. The proposed front-end has a maximum gain of 33.2 dB with a variable gain range of 17 dB. The noise figure and third-order input intercept point (IIP3) are 4.8 dB and -8.5 dBm, respectively. For this operation, the proposed front-end consumes 7.1 mW at high gain mode, and 2.6 mW at low gain mode. The simulation results are performed using Cadence RF spectre with the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)

In this paper, we present high temperature characteristics of a tunable all-optical filter using fiber Bragg grating(FBG) filter in Ge doped and Ge & B co-doped fiber, including peak reflectivity, bandwidth and various normalized refractive index change with temperature variation. The reflection spectrum of a FBG filter with refractive index change is affected by its thermal stability. In this paper, performance comparison of FFT algorithms for OFDM system is shown and advantage of proposed SRFFT is verified through implementation. For the single input and output structure in the most OFDM communication systems, adaptation of SRFFT might be inefficient. In this paper, improved SRFFT with pipeline structured FFT/IFFT of single input and output is developed and verified with Matlab, VHDL, synthesis tool and simulation tool.
Study on Modeling of ZnO Power FET

In this paper, we proposed ZnO trench Static Induction Transistor(SIT). Because The compound semiconductor had superior thermal characteristics, ZnO and SiC power devices is next generation power semiconductor devices. We carried out modeling of ZnO SIT with 2-D device and process simulator. As a result of modeling, we obtained 340V breakdown voltage. The channel thickness was 3um and the channel doping concentration is 1e17cm-3. And we carried out thermal characteristics, too.
Design of 10Gbps CMOS Receiver Circuits for Fiber-Optic Communication

This study is on the design of 10Gbps CMOS receiver circuits for fiber-optic communication. The receiver is made up of a photodiode, a transimpedance amplifier, a limiting amplifier, an equalizer, a clock and data recovery loop circuit, and a demultiplexer or demux with some auxiliary circuits including I/O circuits. Various wideband or high-speed circuit techniques are harnessed to realize a feasible, effective, and reliable receiver for a SONET fiber-optic standard, OC-192.
Posture Change Recognition System using Visual Information

This paper handles, pitching and rolling posture change detection using the visual image changes due to the road slope conditions. When the moving vehicle is slanted to a direction, the objects in the visual images of the vehicle are moving to up or down and right or left. This is similar to the human's balancing behavior depending on the visual image change detection as well as the vestibular organs and semicircular canal in the ear. The proposes method shows the visual image through the camera can be used for the image information itself and for the posture change detection through the experiments.
A Link Layer Design for DisplayPort Interface

This paper presents a link layer design of DisplayPort interface with a state machine based on packet processing. The DisplayPort link layer provides isochronous video/audio transport service, link service, and device service. The merged video, audio main link, and AUX channel controller are implemented with 7,648 LUTs(Loop Up Tables), 6020 register, and 821,760 of block memory bits synthesized using a FPGA board and it operates at 203.32MHz.
Contents Analysis and Synthesis Scheme for Music Album Cover Art

Most recent web search engines perform effective keyword-based multimedia contents retrieval by investigating keywords associated with multimedia contents on the Web and comparing them with query keywords. On the other hand, most music and compilation albums provide professional artwork as cover art that will be displayed when the music is played. If the cover art is not available, then the music player just displays some dummy or random images, but this has been a source of dissatisfaction. In this paper, in order to automatically create cover art that is matched with music contents, we propose a music album cover art creation scheme based on music contents analysis and result synthesis. We first (i) analyze music contents and their lyrics and extract representative keywords, (ii) expand the keywords using WordNet and generate various queries, (iii) retrieve related images from the Web using those queries, and finally (iv) synthesize them according to the user preference for album cover art. To show the effectiveness of our scheme, we developed a prototype system and reported some results.
Particle filter-assisted ad hoc routing in a multi-hop wireless ad hoc network for multi-robots

We describe in this paper how to facilitate ad hoc routing with a particle filter in a hostile radio environment for multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks that connect multi-robots. The proposed scheme increases a connection's throughput by exploiting alternative links without going through the procedure of route discovery when link failure happens among multi-robots' networking. The scheme is implemented by using a particle filter to find strongly connected nodes. The filter estimates the probability distribution function in a sample-based manner with N particles. The particles are associated with a weight which represents the probability of the corresponding node to be the node with the best link. At every step of the estimation, the weights of particles are calculated and particles are resampled based on the weights. Since a node with the strongest link status possesses the largest number of particles, we take this node to forward the packets.
An effective indoor video surveillance system based on wide baseline cameras

The video surveillance system is adopted in many places due to its efficiency and constancy in monitoring a specific area over a long period of time. However, many surveillance systems composed of a single static camera often produce unsatisfactory results due to their lack of field of view. In this paper, we present a video surveillance system based on wide baseline stereo cameras to overcome the limitation. We adopt the codebook algorithm and mathematical morphology to robustly model the foreground pixels of the moving object in the scene and calculate the trajectory of the moving object via 3D reconstruction. The experimental results show that the proposed system detects a moving object and generates a top view trajectory successfully to track the location of the object in the world coordinates.

A scheme of extracting age-related wrinkle feature and skin age based on dermoscopic images

Usually, mage feature extraction methods are performed as a pre-processing step in many applications including image retrieval, object recognition, and image indexing. Especially, in the image texture analysis, texture feature extraction methods attempt to increase texture contrast to make it easier to extract the texture features from the image. One of the distinct textures in microscopic skin image is the wrinkle, and its features could provide various useful information for the age-related applications. In this paper, we propose a scheme to extract age-related features from the skin images and improve its accuracy in the skin age estimation.
Indexing and Matching Scheme for Content-based Image Retrieval based on Extendible Hash

So far, many researches have been done to index high-dimensional feature values for fast content-based image retrieval. Still, many existing indexing schemes are suffering from performance degradation due to the curse of dimensionality problem. As an alternative, heuristic algorithms have been proposed to calculate the result with 'high probability' at the cost of accuracy. In this paper, we propose a new extendible hash-based indexing scheme for high-dimensional feature values. Our indexing scheme provides several advantages compared to the traditional high-dimensional index structures in terms of search performance and accuracy preservation. Through extensive experiments, we show that our proposed indexing scheme achieves outstanding performance.
