Evaluation for Lifetime and Thermal Ratings for Aged Overhead Transmission Lines

Thermal rating or lifetime evaluation for aged overhead transmission line becomes more important concerns with respect to keeping power delivery stable having proper capability. Both load rating and dip/clearance are essential factors to determine transmission capacity. In order to evaluate thermal rating and conductor lifetime for domestic transmission lines with double-circuit, the dip/ground clearance standards as well as the electrical equipment technical standard are examined. Conductor temperature and dip are calculated under the assumption of a contingency, and then, a method to up-rate load capacity is searched. As thermal rating and limit dip for aged conductor are properly evaluated, an improved strategy in order to guarantee the existing power system reliability is presented in this paper.
Efficient Estimation Method of Reception Rate for Terrestrial Digital TV Broadcasting Service

In this paper, a reception rate of terrestrial digital TV broadcasting service is analyzed and a novel method which can estimate the broadcasting coverage rate more objectively and reliably than the existing method is proposed. Previous method measures the reception rate by means of electric field intensity measurement or subjective video quality assessment. Because of limited measuring points, it inherently has measurement error and cannot consider the viewer's receiving conditions in real-time. In order to consider the viewer's population and receiving environment, morphology which characterizes the viewer's receiving environment is extracted using household census data of National Statistical Office and the land cover map of Ministry of Environment. Using the extracted geographical morphology, the reception rate of terrestrial digital TV broadcasting service is calculated with Spectrum Management Intelligence System (SMIs). Proposed method can calculate the reception rate more objectively and reliably than the existing methods because it fully considers the viewer's receiving environments in real-time.
Design of Frequency Selective Surface with Chessboard Patterns

The frequency selective surfaces(FSSs) with chessboard patterns are proposed and designed for the first time in this paper. We proposed the design parameters like slot and patch size, gap between slots or patches, and dielectric thickness of FSS chessboard unit cell proposed in this paper. Also, we found that the variation of design parameters can be used to control the frequency transmission characteristics like the resonant frequency or bandwidth of FSS. To validate the proposed FSS, we fabricated the proposed FSS with the use of 1.0mm FR4 for the bandpass operation at X-band and measured the transmission characteristics. From the results, the proposed FSS with chessboard type can be widely applied to application of the frequency controllable radome design because we can use the design parameters selectively.
A Variable Hysteresis Comparator Circuit Controlled by Serial Digital Bits Against Jamming

In order to overcome jamming, a hysteresis tunable monolithic comparator circuit based on a 0.35
CMOS process is suggested, designed, fabricated, measured and analyzed in this paper. To tune the threshold voltage of the hysteresis in the comparator circuit, two external digital bits are used with supply voltage of 3.3V. An improved variable hysteresis comparator circuit controlled by serial digital bits is suggested, designed and simulated to overcome jamming in modern warfare.
Design of a High-Resolution Integrating Sigma-Delta ADC for Battery Capacity Measurement

Recently, with mobile devices increasing, as a variety of multimedia functions are needed, battery life is decreased. Accordingly the methods for extending the battery life has been proposed. In order to implement these methods, we have to know exactly the status of the battery, so we need a high resolution analog to digital converter(ADC). In case of the existing integrating sigma-delta ADC, it have not convert reset-time conversion cycle to function of resolution. Because of this reason, all digital values corresponding to the all number of bits will not be able to be expressed. To compensated this drawback, this paper propose that all digital values corresponding to the number of bits can be expressed without having to convert reset-time additional conversion cycle to function of resolution by using a up-down counter. The proposed circuit achieves improved SNDR compared to conventional converters simulation result. Also, this was designed for low power suitable for battery management systems and fabricated in 0.35um process.
High Accurate Creep Compensation of the Loadcell using the Strain Gauge

This paper proposes a practical compensation method by using digital signal processing over the creep error which is representative in strain gauge loadcell. The signal compensation method carry out the simulation by deciding compensation constant (time constant) and coefficient measuring the loadcell output response. Then, compensation constant and coefficient are stored on the microprocessor. By using calculated on microprocessor creep error compensation values, weighting value is showed as a digital signal by reducing error values measured through output signals of loadcell. In addition, we apply error compensation method in order to have a dedicated software for loadcell electronic scale. This technique is useful because it has great influence on error rate reduction that has been produced by conventional electronic scales (0.03%). As a result our technique gives better accuracy (0.01%~0.003%) as what is given by digital electronic scale, while it has less complex operation processing.
Power/Clock Network-Aware Routing Congestion Estimation Methodology at Early Design Stage

This paper proposes the methodology to estimate the routing congestion of modern IC quickly and accurately at the early stage of the design flow. The occurrence of over-congestion in the routing process causes routing failure which then takes unnecessary time to re-design the physical design from the beginning. The precise estimation of routing congestion at the early design stage leads to a successful physical design that minimizes over-congestion which in turn reduces the total design time cost. The proposed estimation method at the block-level floorplan stage measures accurate routing congestion by using the analyzed virtual interconnections of inter/intra blocks, synthesized virtual power/ground and clock networks.
Study on Performance Enhancement for a Cyclic Code Shift Keying Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum/Time Division Multiple Access System

In this paper, we propose to employ a ternary sequence as a cyclic code shift keying (CCSK) modulation sequence. And we simulate the performance in a frequency hopping spread spectrum/time division multiple access (FHSS/TDMA) system with CCSK. Wireless channel is modeled as Rayleigh fading channel. From the simulation results, it is demonstrated that the system adopting the ternary sequence as a CCSK sequence has higher performance than that with a random sequence.
Design and Implementation of Digital Modem for Medical Implant Communication System

In this paper, a digital modem for the medical implant communication system will operate in 402~405 Mhz wide-band in international standardization frequency was designed and implemented. The
/4-D8PSSK modem, which is not only power effective with a good low-powered characteristics but also band-width effective, can overcome the shortcoming of PSK. The proposed digital modem was verified through the wave comparison based on the result of Matlab simulation and the wave from the measured one using Chipscope, and implemented with FPGA.
Design of Planar Microstrip Antenna at UHF ISM band for the Safety Communication of Life at Sea

The planar microstrip antenna for the safety communication of life at sea is designed and manufactured to effectively receive the emergency wireless signal from the transmitter on the life vest. The proposed microstrip antenna in this paper is easy to make, light weight and cheap compared to other antennas because of printed antenna fabrication. To overcome the narrow bandwidth, large size and low gain characteristics of microstrip antenna, we use the IDMA(Identical Dual Patch Microstrip Antenna with Air-Gap) structure. The proposed antenna was fabricated with the use of 1.6mm FR4 and measured with the 28.7MHz(6.6%) of bandwidth and 3.04dBi of gain at the frequency of 426MHz. To validate the proposed antenna, we experimented the possible distance range at sea using the commercial UHF transceiver module and obtained over 5km distance for stable communication. This antenna can be widely applied to application of the UHF wireless mobile communication.
