A Compact Active Channel Module Design for Active Phased Array Antenna System

This paper introduces the T/RX combined compact active channel module which is a key unit of the active phased array antenna(APAA) system. This module is mainly compoased of two parts for TX and RX fabricated on both sides of the active module for size reduction. The TX-part is primarily composed of a 3-stage amplifier, a microstrip phase shifter, a thermal compensation and a power detection circuit. The RX-part is composed of LNAs a microstrip phase shifter and BPFs for TX power rejection. Using the proposed design structure we can realized a compact active channel module having high performance.
The development of pH reading system based on vision system

Nuclear medicine imaging devices such as PET diagnose disease after injecting radiopharmaceuticals in human body for diagnosis. Radiopharmaceuticals should maintain the proper pH for human body safety. In general, pH paper is used to measure the pH of the radiopharmaceutical. pH of the sample compared with the standard color chart is used for measurement. However, the pH reading difference according to the experience of a rater can be generated. Also, a pH meter for measuring pH has a high sensitivity and contamination of the sensor must be avoided. In this paper, we developed the new hardware device for pH reading method and software was developed with vision algorithm to measure pH easily and simply.
Wired/Wireless LED Lighting Communication Using Reconfigurable Peripheral Unit

In this paper, a reconfigurable peripheral unit for LED lighting communication is presented. Embedded lighting devices require various communication protocols. Usually, serial communication protocols and lighting control communication protocols such as DALI, DMX512, UART, SPI, IrDA, etc. are used in lighting devices. When the requirements of communication protocols are satisfied with separate IPs, the cost and the power consumption can considerably increase. We propose a reconfigurable communication peripheral unit which uses analysis of signal formats of the protocols. The gate count of the reconfigurable peripheral unit uses only 57% of the gate count of the separate implementation. Also, in this paper, a mapping table based DALI-ZigBee interfacing method for flexible lighting network configurations is proposed. Using this method, various DALI-ZigBee network systems can be easily set up. An LED lighting system platform is implemented to verify the operation of the DALI-ZigBee interfacing method. The reconfigurable peripheral unit and the DALI-ZigBee interfacing method can be efficiently used to implement various wired/wireless lighting communication systems.
Implementation of H.264/AVC Deblocking Filter on 1-D CGRA

In this paper, we propose a parallel deblocking filter algorithm for H.264/AVC video standard. The deblocking filter has different filter processes according to boundary strength (BS) and each filter process requires various conditional calculations. The order of filtering makes it difficult to parallelize deblocking filter calculations. The proposed deblocking filter algorithm is performed on PRAGRAM which is a 1-D coarse grained reconfigurable architecture (CGRA). Each filter calculation is accelerated using uni-directional pipelined architecture of PRAGRAM. The filter selection and the conditional calculations are efficiently performed using dynamic reconfiguration and conditional reconfiguration. The parallel deblocking filter algorithm uses 225 cycles to process a macroblock and it can process a full HD image at 150 MHz.

In this study, an 4H-SiC Trench MOS Barrier Schottky (TMBS) rectifier which utilizes the trapezoid mesa structure and the upper half of the trench sidewall is proposed to improve the forward voltage drop and reverse blocking voltage concurrently. The proposed 4H-SiC TMBS rectifier reduces the forward voltage drop by 12% compared to the conventional 4H-SiC TMBS rectifier with the tilted sidewall and improves the reverse blocking voltage by 11% with adjusting the length of the upper sidewall. The Silvaco T-CAD was used to analyze the electrical characteristics.
Efficient Placement of Artificial Landmarks for Low-cost Localization of a Mobile Robot

Artificial landmarks have been widely used for reducing the uncertainty in localization of a mobile robot. In addition, research for efficient placement of artificial landmarks has been considered as one of the fundamental issues since the cost of localization is increased with the number of used landmarks. Therefore, this paper proposes a method in which landmarks are efficiently placed by considering the uncertainty characteristics of the motion model and the sensor model. Because two models have different uncertainty distributions, the final uncertainty can be considerably reduced through their efficient combination. The usefulness of the proposed method is demonstrated by simulation results.
Outdoor Localization for Returning of Quad-rotor using Cell Divide Algorithm and Extended Kalman Filter

This paper proposes a local estimation system which combines Cell Divide Algorithm with low-cost GPS/INS fused by Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) for localization of Quad-rotor when it returns to the departure point. In the research, the low-cost GPS and INS are fused by EKF to reduce the local error of low-cost GPS and the accumulative error of INS due to continuous integration of sensor error values. When the Quad-rotor returns to the departure point in the fastest path, a moving path can be known because it moves straight, where Cell Divide Algorithm is used to divide moving route into the cells. Then it determines the closest position of data of GPS/INS system fused by EKF to obtain the improved local data. The proposed system was verified through comparing experimental localization results obtained by using GPS, GPS/INS and GPS/INS with Cell Divide Algorithm respectively.

As IT technology advances, the need for robots in various areas has been recognized. Robots that focused on the industrial market have been extended to household robots in everyday life. It is well-known that inducing learner's spontaneous participation and teacher-student interaction are highly efficient way of teaching and learning. The traditional one-sided, teacher-centered lecture seemed to be inefficient systematically to support the interaction in classroom. Recently, the government was planning to provide the students with Tablet as a part of the informatization project, but it ended up providing only the content of the lecture, not allowing the interaction to occur in classroom. In this paper, we propose a system which aims to support interaction between a teacher and students by utilizing the Web server and Tablet.
A Study on Frame Interpolation and Nonlinear Moving Vector Estimation Using GRNN

Under nonlinear characteristics of frames, we propose the frame interpolation using GRNN to enhance the visual picture quality. By full search with block size of 128x128~1x1 to reduce blocky artifact and image overlay, we select the frame having block of minimum error and re-estimate the nonlinear moving vector using GRNN. We compare our scheme with forward(backward) motion compensation, bidirectional motion compensation when the object movement is large or the object image includes zoom-in and zoom-out or camera focus has changed. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides better performance in subjective image quality compared to conventional MCFI methods.
Fast Pedestrian Detection Using Estimation of Feature Information Based on Integral Image

This paper enhances the speed of a pedestrian detection using an estimation of feature information based on integral image. Pedestrian model or input image should be resized to the size of various pedestrians. In case that the size of pedestrian model would be changed, pedestrian models with respect to the size of pedestrians should be required. Reducing the size of pedestrian model, however, deteriorates the quality of the model information. Since various features according to the size of pedestrian models should be extracted, repetitive feature extractions spend the most time in overall process of pedestrian detection. In order to enhance the processing time of feature extraction, this paper proposes the fast extraction of pedestrian features based on the estimate of integral image. The efficiency of the proposed method is evaluated by comparative experiments with the Channel Feature and Adaboost training using INRIA person dataset.
Skewness based Adaptive Retinex Algorithm for Wide Dynamic Range

This paper presents an adaptive Retinex algorithm for improving dynamic range of image representation. The proposed Retinex algorithm detects degraded brightness by using skewness and the degraded components are compensated with local statistics. In particular, we propose a new compensation function for dynamic range so that effectinve image representation can be achieved. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has the capability to improve the dynamic range with reduction of color degradation.

In this paper, we proposed an internal multiband loop embedded monopole antenna for mobile handset that could be used for smart phones. The proposed antenna has a volume of 40 mm(W)
5 mm(H), ground plane size is 40 mm(W)
80 mm(L), and covers the GSM900 (Global System for Mobile communications : 880-960 MHz), K-PCS (Korea-Personal Communications Service : 1750-1870 MHz), US-PCS (US Personal Communications Service : 1850-1990 MHz), WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access : 1920-2170 MHz), Wibro (2300-2390 MHz), Bluetooth (2400-2483 MHz) and WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network : 2400-2483.5 MHz) bands for VSWR (voltage standing wave ration) less than 3. The proposed loop adding design at middle section of longest branch showed wide impedance bandwidth for the lowest resonance frequency band. The proposed antenna have a lowest resonance frequency band from 738 MHz to 1075 MHz for S11 value of -6dB. A HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) of the Ansys Corporation based on a finite element method is employed to analyze the proposed antenna in the design process and to compare the simulation and experimental results.

Recently, as Smartphone users increase, a variety of Smartphone games have been released. However, many games are just for individuals, it is not easy to find games in which people can do together. In this paper, we propose the multiple access game control system using bluetooth, which can support multiple users to do games together. The proposed system overcomes the limitation of current PC games, and also proposes a convenient way in which people can enjoy the game easily without expensive equipments such as Nintendo Wii.

Automation is being progressed rapidly in various fields with the advancement of IT technology. Home automation is a typical application and is being used in a variety of ways now. Most of digital door lock systems simply support to open and close a door using the methods of password and a particular magnetic key. In this paper, we propose a intelligent digital door lock system using face recognition technology. Our proposed system can control the locking device opening and closing from a remote location after confirming the identification of the visitor via a smart device, and support the reliable and secure control of door systems.
Entropy-based Discrimination of Hand and Elbow Movements Using ECoG Signals

In this paper, a method of estimating hand and elbow movements using electrocorticogram (ECoG) signals is proposed. Using multiple channels, surface electromyogram (EMG) signals and ECoG signals were obtained from patients simultaneously. The estimated movements were those to close and then open the hand and those to bend the elbow inward. The patients were encouraged to perform the movements in accordance with their free will instead of after being induced by external stimuli. Surface EMG signals were used to find movement time points, and ECoG signals were used to estimate the movements. To extract the characteristics of the individual movements, the ECoG signals were divided into a total of six bands (the entire band and the
bands) to obtain the information entropy, and the maximum likelihood estimation method was used to estimate the movements. The results of the experiment showed the performance averaged 74% when the ECoG of the gamma band was used, which was higher than that when other bands were used, and higher estimation success rates were shown in the gamma band than in other bands. The time of the movements was divided into three time sections based on movement time points, and the "before" section, which included the readiness potential, was compared with the "onset" section. In the "before" section and the "onset" section, estimation success rates were 66% and 65%, respectively, and thus it was determined that the readiness potential could be used.
Sigma-Delta Modulator using a novel FDPA(Feedback Delay Path Addition) Technique

This paper presents a SDM using the FDPA technique. The FDPA technique is the added feedback path which is the delayed path of DAC output. The designed SDM increases the SNR by adding the delayed digital feedback path. The proposed SDM is easily implemented by eliminating the analog feedback path. Through the MATLAB modeling, the optimized coefficients are obtained to design the SDM. The designed SDM has a power consumption of
and SNR(signal to noise ratio) of 81dB at the signal-bandwidth of 20KHz and sampling frequency of 2.56MHz. The SDM is designed using the
standard CMOS process.
Stereo matching for large-scale high-resolution satellite images using new tiling technique

Stereo matching has been grabbing the attention of researchers because it plays an important role in computer vision, remote sensing and photogrammetry. Although most methods perform well with small size images, experiments applying them to large-scale data sets under uncontrolled conditions are still lacking. In this paper, we present an empirical study on stereo matching for large-scale high-resolution satellite images. A new method is studied to solve the problem of huge size and memory requirement when dealing with large-scale high resolution satellite images. Integrating the tiling technique with the well-known dynamic programming and coarse-to-fine pyramid scheme as well as using memory wisely, the suggested method can be utilized for huge stereo satellite images. Analyzing 350 points from an image of size of 8192 x 8192, disparity results attain an acceptable accuracy with RMS error of 0.5459. Taking the trade-off between computational aspect and accuracy, our method gives an efficient stereo matching for huge satellite image files.
A Design of XAS4B for Adding Function in BPEL using Aspect-Oriented Programming

The BPEL is standard of workflow. A domain experts not familiar with programming languages and he can write workflow. But he need new function without BPEL. We must develop or modify a BPEL engine for new functions. This method is expensive. In this paper, We propose the XAS4B documents that extend the XML schema. And We describe method that can process new function in BPEL using Aspect-Oriented Programming. AOP can cross-cut concern adding to core concern using weaving without modification. We use an existing B2J (BPEL to JAVA) engine that is transfer a BPEL's document to a JAVA program and B2J execute a JAVA program. This system adding new functions to BPEL's flow using AOP. In this system, A JAVA program is core concern and a program of new function is cross-cut concern. And this system weave a JAVA program made in B2J and a program of new function. This method provide abstract grammar for new functions. And domain experts can easily write new function is a BPEL Document and reuse new function using abstract grammar.
Deformation of the AlGaN/GaN metal-oxide-semiconductor heterostructure field-effect transistor characteristics by UV irradiation

The impact of UV irradiation process on the AlGaN/GaN metal-oxide-semiconductor heterostructure field-effect transistor was investigated. Due to the high intensity UV irradiation before the gate dielectric deposition, the conductivity of AlGaN/GaN structure and the drain saturation current of the transistor increased by about 10 %. However, the pinch off characteristics of transistor was severely deformed by the process. By comparing the electrical characteristics of the transistors, it was proposed that the high intensity UV irradiation formed a sub-channel under the two dimensional electron gas of AlGaN/GaN structure even without additional impurity injection.
A Low EMI Spread Spectrum Clock Generator Using TIE-Limited Frequency Modulation Technique

This paper proposed a low EMI spread spectrum clock generator (SSCG) using discontinuous frequency modulation technique. The proposed SSCG is designed for triangular frequency modulation with high modulation depth. When the maximum time interval error (MTIE) of the SSCG is higher than given limit, the output frequency of SSCG is divided by two and used for reducing the time interval error (TIE). This discontinuous frequency modulation technique can effectively reduce the EMI within given limit. The simulated EMI of proposed SSCG was reduced by 18.5dB than that of conventional methods.
Design of low jitter CDR using a single edge binary phase detector

This paper describes a modified binary phase detector (Bang-Bang phase detector - BBPD) for jitter reduction in clock and data recovery (CDR) circuits. The proposed PD reduces ripples in the VCO control voltage resulting in reduced jitter for CDR circuits. A 2.5 Gbps CDR circuit with a proposed BBPD has been designed and verified using Dongbu
CMOS technology. Simulation shows the CDR with proposed PD recovers data with peak-to-peak jitter of 10.96ps, rms jitter of 0.86ps, and consumes 16.9mW.
An Efficient Hybrid Lighting Management System Implementation on Multi Protocol

In this paper, we propose an efficient hybrid lighting management system implementation on multiple protocol. The proposed hybrid lighting management system was implemented by configured as the data display part for management and control of lighting device and the data conversion-processing part the communication part of gateway. The data were designed the DB to enable to storage in real-time, and implemented able to manage by real time wireless remote control and schedule setting. The proposed an efficient hybrid lighting management system, it was possible the real-time monitoring and remote lighting control by peristalsis with smart devices and portable PC etc., and it could be obtained reduction effect of energy and electricity, communication cost.
Analytical Proof of Equivalence of ISF, and Floquet Vector-Based Oscillator Phase Noise Theories

This paper analytically proves the equivalence between two main oscillator phase noise theories, which are based on the ISF, and Floquet vector, respectively. For this purpose, this study obtains the power spectral density matrix from the ISF-based phase noise theory. As a result, one can prove that the power spectral density matrix obtained from the ISF-based phase noise theory is essentially equivalent to the power spectral density matrix presented by the Floquet vector-based phase noise theory, which manifests the equivalence of the two main theories. This study is intended to provide deeper insight into the relations between the two main theories.
An Improving Method of Android Boot Speed in Multi-core based Embedded System

The current embedded devices are growing rapidly in the multi-core, and these demand fast boot time. But method of previous boot uses core only one. The method includes parallel techniques and modification of CPU Frequency policy. Parallel methods, after analyzing the Android boot process with analysis tool, applied to location where a lot of CPU operation. CPU Frequency policy is modified for high performance of core. The proposed method was applied to S5PV310 dual core and Exynos4412 quad core embedded system. As a result of the experiment, we found that the proposed method makes boot time fast about 20.71% and 31.34% in dual core and quad core environment as compared with the previous method.
8×8 HEVC Inverse Core Transform Architecture Using Multiplier Reuse

HEVC inverse core transform architecture reusing multipliers. In HEVC core transform, processing of lower size block is identical with even part of upper size block. So an
core transform architecture can process both
core transforms. However, when
core transform architecture is exploited, frame processing time doubles in

core transforms concurrently process 8 and 4 pixels, respectively. In this paper, a novel inverse core transform architecture is proposed based on multiplier reuse. It runs as an

core transforms, and reduces gate counts by 12%.
