Battery State of Charge Estimation Considering the Battery Aging

Proper operation of the battery powered systems depends on the accuracy of the battery SOC(State of Charge) estimation, therefore it is critical for those systems that SOC is accurately determined. The SOC of the battery is related to the battery aging and the SOC estimation methods without considering the aging of the battery are not accurate. In this paper, a new method that accurately estimate the SOC of the battery is proposed considering the aging of the battery. A mathematical model for the Battery SOC-OCV(Open Circuit Voltage) relationship is presented using Boltzmann equation and aging indicator is defined, and then the SOC is estimated combining the mathematical model and aging indicator. The proposed method takes the aging of the battery into consideration, which leads to an accurate estimation of the SOC. The simulations and experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed method for improving the accuracy of the SOC estimation.
Improving Code Coverage for the FPGA Based Nuclear Power Plant Controller

IIt takes a lot of time and needs the workloads to verify the RTL code used in complex system like a nuclear control system which is required high level reliability using simple testbench. UVM has a layered testbench architecture and it is easy to modify the testbench to improve the code coverage. A test vector can be easily constructed in the UVM, since a constrained random test vector can be used even though the construction of testbench using UVM. We showed that the UVM testbench is easier than the verilog testbench for the analysis and improvement of code coverage.
A Study on the Service Reliability and Power Quality Improvement Using Hybrid Type Capacitor Bank

The objectives of power system operations are to preserve system stability and reliability as well as to supply proper electric power. For an activation of these objectives, voltage and reactive power should be considered. There are a number of types about reactive power sources, and an insertion of shunt capacitor banks are one of the method to support bus voltage adjacent. This paper includes the design procedure to determine the hybrid type capacitor bank configurations on power system to improve stability and reliability. This procedure includes the capacitor bank capacity calculation, reactor type selection, and reactor capacity calculation. The total capacity calculation of capacitor bank is based on the reactive power margin which is calculated through system studies such as, contingency analysis and Q-V analysis. In the second step, the reactor type and its capacity can be determined through the harmonic analysis. This paper shows that the harmonics are decreased by the proposed hybrid type capacitor bank, especially 5th and 7th harmonics.

Optical System Implementation of OFB Block Encryption Algorithm

This paper proposes an optical encryption and decryption system for OFB(Output Feedback Block) encryption algorithm. The proposed scheme uses a dual-encoding technique in order to implement optical XOR logic operation. Also, the proposed method provides more enhanced security strength than the conventional electronic OFB method due to the huge security key with 2-dimensional array. Finally, computer simulation results of encryption and decryption are shown to verify the proposed method, and hence the proposed method makes it possible to implement more effective and stronger optical block encryption system with high-speed performance and the benefits of parallelism.
A Study on Methodology to Improve the Power Factor of the High Power LED Module

Recently, LED (Light Emitting Diode) becomes to be useful to apply for the lightening sources in electric systems and the lightening equipment since the power is less consumed with high efficiency, and the size and the weight of LED are small and light, respectively. The LED is controlled with constant current and SMPS (Switching Mode Power Supply). It is necessary for the LED manufacturer to secure the fundamental technology of designing LED chip, and to study the methodology to improve the power factor (PF) and to design the operational circuit for the development of LED to reduce the power loss in the application of LED lightening. The direct AC (Alternating Current) LED driving circuit, HV9910, is widely used in the industry field. In this paper, it is to evaluate the improved methodology for the power factor and efficiency through simulations when PFC (Power Factor Correction) and Noise Filter are added to HV9910.
Standardized Modeling Method of Semiconductor IP Interfaces

When several resuable semiconductor IPs are connected and implemented into an integrated chip, each semiconductor IP should provide code files for synthesis and interface modeling files for simulation and verification. However, description methods and levels of abstraction of interface modeling files are different because these semiconductor IPs are designed by different designers, which makes some problems in simulation and verification. This paper proposes a standardized modeling method of semiconductor IP interfaces. It restricts semiconductor IP interfaces to several predefined level of abstraction. The proposed method helps the chip integration designer to easily connect different semiconductor IPs and to simulate and verify them.
Standardized Description Method of Semiconductor IP Interfaces

In semiconductor IP reuse, precise understanding of semiconductor IP interfaces is essential for integrated chip design. However, in general, these interfaces are described in the original designer's description style. Furthermore, their description method are not unified, so it is very difficult for the chip integration designer to understand them. This paper proposes a standardized description method of semiconductor IP interfaces. It consists of 9 items such as IP information, description level, model provision, data type, interface information, port information, signal information, protocol information, and source file. The proposed method helps the chip integration designer to understand semiconductor IP interfaces and to integrate them into a single chip.
Hardware Implementation of HEVC CABAC Binarizer

This paper proposes hardware architecture of HEVC (high efficiency video coding) CABAC (context-based adaptive binary arithmetic coding) binarizer. The proposed binarizer was designed and implemented as an independent module that can be integrated into HEVC CABAC encoder. It generates each bin string of each syntax element in a single cycle. It consists of controller module, TU (truncated unary binarization) module, TR (truncated Rice binarization) module, FL (fixed length binarization) module, EGK (k-th order exp-Golomb coding) module, CALR (coeff_abs_level_remaining) module, QP Delta (cu_qp_delta_abs) module, Intra Pred (intra_chroma_pred_mode) module, Inter Pred (inter_pred_idc) module, and Part Mode (part_mode) module. The proposed binarizer was designed in Verilog HDL, and it was implemented in 45 nm technology. Its operating speed, gate count, and power consumption are 200 MHz, 1,678 gates, and 50 uW, respectively.

Music score recognition applications running on a smartphone, which is one of the necessities of modern people, have already been released on the market. These applications have the several limitations, especially the recognition rate of printed music scores is low so that many errors occur when the score is played. The major factor to decrease the recognition rate comes from poor tilt-correction of the captured staff-line. In this paper, we propose a efficient method that can automatically shoot the printed music score through preview analysis, which increases the recognition rate via tilt-correction.

Brain computer interface(BCI) technology has been continuously developed due to the continuous development of interface technology and the promotion of brain wave research. In this paper, we propose a driving habit management system by adopting BCI to transportation. The proposed system consists of the electroencephalogram(EEG) measuring unit, the EEG analysis unit, the memory section for storing the state information of drivers, the speed controller unit and the alarming section for generating warnings. Our proposed system can reduce the drowsy driving, improve the driving habits of users and help to prevent traffic accidents.
Posture Stabilization Control of QuadCopter Using Sensor Fusion and Modified PID Control

In this paper, we propose a advanced attitude PID controller and sensor fusion method robust to the vibration of the quadcopter unmanned air vehicle using four BLDC motors. When the gyro sensor and acceleration sensor are fused, a complementary filter is designed to ignore the vibrations generated by the motors and to complement the drawbacks. As a result, we obtain accurate results than using each sensor. Also, it is possible to obtain a low delay results in robust to vibration than the low-pass filter or moving average filter, which is generally used for quadcopter. And we improved D controller, which have being used for attitude control of quadcopter, to quadcopter using gyro sensor. it was confirmed that the attitude is stabilized and error is reduced By using gyro sensor output instead of variation of estimated angle in D control.
Analyzing System of Fuel Filter Based on Temperature and Pressure Measurement for Diesel Cars

In this paper, temperature, pressure and flow analysis system for testing a fuel filter of a diesel engine at the low-temperature environment in winter, is proposed. The light oil of diesel engine below a specific temperature is changed to the waxing materials like paraffin, and it prevents engine to start easily because of reducing fluidity. Thus, built-in block heater should be installed with fuel filter in order to solve this problem. And it is necessary to design evaluation system that can analyze the performance according to temperature, pressure and flow characteristics near fuel filter at a very low temperature. In this paper, we measured a physical quantity related to the performance of around the fuel filter using the proposed system, and analyzed their characteristics. Also the measured data is transferred to remote user by using a web server of embedded systems, and analyzed their conditions in remote place via web browser in order to know the operating status of fuel filter. We installed the proposed system in a small test chamber to verify the performance and took an experiment in normal temperature and very low temperature, and could obtain temperature, pressure and flow of near the fuel filter. As a result, the fuel flow could be improved during operation of the fuel heater.
An Implementation of a Memory Operation System Architecture for Memory Latency Penalty Reduction in SIMT Based Stream Processor

In this paper, we propose a memory operation system architecture for memory latency penalty reduction in SIMT architecture based stream processor. The proposed architecture applied non-blocking cache architecture to reduce cache miss penalty generated by blocking cache architecture. We verified that the proposed memory operation architecture improve the performance of the stream processor by comparing processing performances of various algorithms. We measured the performance improvement rate that was improved in accordance with the ratio of memory instruction in each algorithm. As a result, we confirmed that the performance of stream processor improves up to minimum 8.2% and maximum 46.5%.
Implementation of Parallel Processing Based Pedestrian Detection Using a Modified CENTRIST Algorithm

In this paper, we propose a parallel processing method of pedestrian detection algorithm based on ROI-CENTRIST. There is a difficulty in the real-time processing of pedestrian detection in the embedded environment, using the conventional pedestrian detection method. This problem can be solved by a parallel processing method of applying the ROI to the conventional algorithm. The proposed parallel processing method of pedestrian detection using ROI-CENTRIST show the result of 5.2 frames per second, which is about 10% improvement over the conventional pedestrian detection method based on CENTRIST.
A Design of a Tile-Based Rasterizer Using Varying Interpolator by Pixel Block Unit

In this paper, we propose a rasterizer architecture using varying interpolator which process several pixels at a time. Proposed rasterizer is able to handle 16 pixel at a time and output the color of up to 64. It can reduce the redundancy of calculation by configuring a matrix transformation and matrix calculation for rasterization, and it can enhance the speed of rasterizer by increasing the reusability. As a result, proposed rasterizer has improve 11% in color interpolation, 17% in the processing speed of the rasterizer by comparing with conventional research.

Performance Analysis of GeoRouting Protocol in Vehicle Communication Environment

The Multihop Routing of vehicle communication environment is difficult to maintain due to heavy fluctuation of network topology and routing channel according to the movement of the vehicle, road property, vehicle distribution. We implemented GeoNetworking on the basis of ETSI(European Telecommunication Standard Institute) to maintain the vehicle safety service. GeoNetworking has its own way that delivers the data through the Unicast and Broadcast. In this paper, we compared performance index such as packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay about GeoNetworking using the QualNet Network Simulator. Previous research assessed performance of GeoUnicast. This research has been additionally performed about GeoBroadcast, and we progressed algorithm performance through the comparison of CBF(Contention based Forwarding) of GeoUnicast with Greedy forwarding of GeoBroadcast.

The V2X cooperative communication system is fusion technology which makes vehicle manuver safer. To evaluate and anticipate effect of these kind of technology, it requires real-car based road construction, implementation of communication devices, hiring inspection specialized personnel. For this reason, many laboratories and universities experience difficulties to test their technology results. Also, the need of implementing reliable testbed for testing vehicle safety applications and V2X communication technology is increasing as V2X device development is being accelerated. In this paper, we implemented a system which synchronizes traffic and network simulators via developing External interface to set simulation based testing environment in order to solve the difficulties.
