A Study on the Recreation Carrycity of Lawn Areas in Parks(II) -Estimation of Ecological Carrying Capacity based on User Behavior-
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 20, issue 2, 1992, Pages 1~17
This study was carried out to estimate the recreation carrying capacity of lawn areas in parks. Recreation carrying capacity in this study is composed of two parts, ecological carrying capacity and psychological carrying capacity. As the second part, this apper deals with the estimation of ecological carrying capacity based on user behavior. The study sites were located at Bomun Resort Complex in Kyungju, Korea. And the major species of the lawn areas was Zoysia japonica. The major results ar summarized as follows: 1. The mean numbers of user for the investigation days of peak season, were estimated as 792 people for the lawn area of Doturag World, and 588 people for Seorabul Plaza. The mean use time by user were 163 minutes and 197 minutes for each site. The weighted mean use time by each activity type(passive, active, and strolling) were estimated as 85 minutes, 45 minutes, and 50 minutes, respectively. 2. Forty kinds of diverse active recreation activities were classified into six types of activity categories. Male adults preferred "sports type" activities, whereas female adults and juveniles preferred "play type" activities. 3. Ecological carrying capacity for each level was estimated as 40.7㎡/man for optimum carrying capacity. And these values were calculated on the basis of total treading areas and treading time criteria for each carrying capacity level.
A Study on Market Segmentation of Urban Park
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 20, issue 2, 1992, Pages 18~26
The purpose of this study is to suggest a method for identifying target markets of potential urban park users by their sociodemographic variables. Data was classified into(ⅰ) users vs. nonusers ; (ⅱ) of chosen three urban parks ; or(ⅲ) users of each urban park then analyzed by discriminant analysis. The results showed that linear combination of selected sociodemographic variables could be used for identifying target markets in some cases. In general, season and sex were the most powerful discriminant variables. But the other cases were not satisfactory. The weak points of this study due to adapting secondary data for analysis were discussed.
Analysis on the Amenity Resources of Open Space for Urban People
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 20, issue 2, 1992, Pages 27~42
IN urban areas, public outdoor recreation opportunities are limited, traditional funding sources are being eraded, and crowding as well as ecological damage appear inevitable, these developments may require new analysis on the prospective policy of park, with the evaluation of the trend of amenity resources and recreation values, 16 parks were taken as informants in Deagu city area, the data for this research were collected 2,942 samples by the on-site-interview. The abstracted results of amenity elements were revealed as institutions and resource types, the attraction of resources was about twice as much as that of institutions. The resources is to be classified into two items ; national resources and human resources. The former is about five times as mcuh atractive as the latter. The attraction of natural resources consists in the atmospheric factors(35%), the biological factors(28%), the topographical factors(19%), and the scenery factors(18%). While, the attraction of human resources consists in the cultural factors(54%), the social factors(46%). The attraction of the base institutions is very low. The attraction of the static institution is three times as much as that of that of the dynamic institution. The above tendency is a general trend in Daegu city. But when we are taking into consideration in datail, we find that there is great difference among the green tract of land of the park. When the amenity resources of one's destination was used for the value of recreation, the pattern of attraction variables as a physical characteristics could explain 58%. Based on those result, this study is a small but important guidence for decision makings concerning to the allocation of scarce amenity resources.
A Study on the Transitional Patterns of Main Streets in Tokyo
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 20, issue 2, 1992, Pages 43~61
Recently, people in urban areas ask for the creation of space for amenity and improvement of environmental problems, in such a condition the activation and reformation of city have become an important subject. The basic element of a city structure is the street. Therefore in this study, a transition of street spaces of a city was investigated. This study will be a basis for the planning of urban space in order to realize a comfortable and fascination urban life. In this paper, the study areas chosen were "Ginza", "Kyobashicho", "Nihonbashicho", "Honcho", "Tsukizi", "Hatchoboricho", "Ningyocho", "Ningyocho" which are the central places and business areas of capital Tokyo of Japan. The main streets were chosen for investigative subjects because they were planned as making a division of block in a city planning. Using maps and references the data was illustrated and the investigation was focused on the period from the Edo era to present time. (1) A periodical division for the basis of a street transition. (2) Consideration of methods in a plan and design for street spaces in each period. (3) A special feature and process of a street transition in each period. (4) A structure of a street and a construction form. (5) A classified structure of streets. (6) A process of a transition for each street.
A Study on the traditional Garden Style of Sang Ju Districts in Korea
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 20, issue 2, 1992, Pages 62~75
To investigate the traditiional gaden style of Sang ju Districts, 5 renown houses of noble family in Lee Dynasty were chosen to surey the environmental landscape and characteristics inner and outer space. 1. Traditional houses were located in natural environments based on topography(pung su-ji ri : forming philosophy of Taoism Buddbism and Korean native Sharmanism) which were reflected the 5 Elements of positive and Negative(Yin and Yang 5 Elements) 2. The formation of space is made of oblong by fence arrangement of dwelling housos has An Chae and Sa Rang Chae, and inner court of Anchae has style of oblong, and outer court of Sa Rang Chae has style of sililar oblong. Inner court is closed and outer is half opened. 3. Flow planning is straight and blique line because arrangement of dwelling houses is formed by theory of Dong-Suh Sa Taek(東西四宅), the flowing is complicated and connected from gate to room of An Chae. 4. Character of garden have simple neat whereas vegetable yard, green shade tree, and fruit trees have. Houses were built with their natural environments and streams in order to borrow landscaping in Sa Rang Chae. Specially they were not built pond. 5. Houses has one or two vegetable yard along inner and outer space and are seen as mixed planting more deciduous trees than evergreen trees.
A Study on the Legal and Administrative System of Landscape Architecture of Chosun-Dynasty
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 20, issue 2, 1992, Pages 76~89
This study is executed to investigate the legal and administrative system of the traditional landscape achitecture of Chosun-Dynasty. To pursuit this purpose, All the Codes established in Chosun-Dynasty were examined thoroughly. In Chosun-Dynasty, the landscape architectural activities were mainly carried out by San-Tack-Sa, Chang-Won-seo in the Ministry of Industry and Sa-Po-Seo in the Ministry of Finance. Stipulated in the text, in the early part of Dynasty, Chang-Won-Seo was composed of 63 personnels and Sa-Po-Seo was about 160 personnels involving servants as well as high-ranked officials. But gradually, the size and importance of organizations were reduced. These three organizations were managing the traditional gardens. But the meaning of traditional garden which was expressed in the Codes was relation to the practical aspect, as if planting flowers or fruit trees and breeding animals. The provisions dealing with landscape architectural activities were very poor. Only the provisions concerning with planting and managing the trees of practical use, governing the silkworm rearing areas and prohibition of timbering and quarrying were stipulated.
A Study on the Users' Behavior and Satisfaction on the Actual Conditions of Management at the Neiborhood Parks in Chonju
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 20, issue 2, 1992, Pages 90~105
the purpose of this study is to suggest objective basic daa for park management proposal through the quantitative analysis of users' behaviours and satisfaction for the actual conditions of management in Chonju neiborhood parks. For this, users' behaviors and socio-ecnomic characteristics have been anlyzed. Specificaly, it atempts to investigate users' anticipation and degree of satisfaction applied Expectancy Theory by Likert scale. And users' satisfaction for the actual conditions of management had been analyzed by using the multiple regression. Results of this study can be summarized as follow; From the aspect of utilization reality, the male usage was slightly higher than female usage, and the usage rate among the young and students such as high school students or university students also appeared slightly higher than the norm. Due to the fact, subject park had been neighborhood parks, walking usage was predominant, and the length of stay to be less than an hour. Generally, the values of users' post occupancy evaluation were lower than those of anticipated, in well known parks. In landscape satisfaction level, the parks with harmonious visual element had high landscape evaluation, and each category showed diversity depending on the park. Seasonableness, formation of physical elements, visual uniqueness, cozy atmosphere appeared as main explicatory variables having positive effects on the satisfaction level for the landscape. According to the multiple regression analysis, the major variables to the satisfaction for the actual condition of vegetation managements were harmony with facilities, recovery of artificial injury. In the park facilities and operation, the major variables related to the satisfaction were conditions of management of rest equip, facilities and guidance of use, observe the rules, respectively.
A Study on the Software Development to Automate the Calculation for the Landscape Architecture Construction Cost Estimation.
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 20, issue 2, 1992, Pages 106~118
The landscape architecture construction cost estimation includes the repeated calculation and updating. Thus, it is time-consuming, and one of the jobs which needs to be automated first. In Korea, the IBM compatible personal computer(PC) is the most widely used one in the landscape architecture firms. However, the software for landscape architecture construction cost estimation is not being used in the PC environment. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop the software which can be used to automate the calculation for the landscape architecture construction cost estimation, and runs in the IBM compatible personal computers(PC). The clipper '88 summer is one of the DBMS software packages, and it has many commands and functions and functions which reduces program lines and makes the programing efficient, especially in the programing work whose total source code lines do not exceed over 10,000 lines. So, it was used in this study. The software developed in the this study was tested using the real data, and it was found that it can be efficiently used in the following jobs. They are: (1) to calculate exactly and rapidly. (2) to use resources repeatedly. (3) to print out the results. (4) to store data files for the future use. The software, as discussed in this paper, reduces the time and efforts to be spent in the calculation for the landscape architecture construction cost estimation compared with the traditional approach using the pocket calculator.
