A Study on the 'Landscape' of Taek-li-ji
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 21, issue 3, 1993, Pages 1~10
This paper is a preliminary study to interpret method of landscape evaluation of "Taek-li-ji", and old Book of Settlements in korea, of which concept would be based on 'li' and 'qi':'substance of the earth'(地理) and 'its transform'(生利) as well as 'substance of human being and its transformed human mind'(人心). The 'Landscape' (山水) of Taek-li-ji, character of case study, might be built on practical landscape sources. Concept and theoretical basis of evaluation of Taek-li-ji, mentioned in this paper, and the second intention of Taek-li-ji, which is done in may previous work, can be earned good result, for an interpretation method of rural landscape of Taek-li-ji, and will be proposed continued case studies about real landscapes of the settlements of the 'Landscape' in Taek-li-ji.
A Study on Landscape Characteristics of the Ratreating Villa Sosewon Garden though a Woodcut of Sosewon Garden and the analysis of the Kim, In Hu's 48 Poems
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 21, issue 3, 1993, Pages 11~19
This study was intended to clarify the landscape characteristics of the Sosewon Gaden through interpreting the Kim, In Hu's 48 poems(in Chinese characters) which clearly represented the landscape image of th user about this garden by selecting the cultural position of how then the users of the garden interpreted and manipulated its landscape rather than the scientific position. The following were the results from the analysis and review of the review of the woodcut and the 48 poems through names and scenic element. 1. When analyzing the names, those names due to the human experience were the most. This revealed that sensitive perception and experience was emphasized in the garden life. 2. It was important that can be experienced as nature and human beings come in contact each other at stream. 3. The landscape of the Sosewon Garden empasized not only the elements of the form and their combination but also on the unusual experience of human behavior and climatic element. The elements of the form which was recognized as the subject of poet was regarded as the cultural one of this garden and had an ideological background to convey the meaning of the landscape. 4. The Sosewon Garden was divided into four characteristic spaces as it is considered in terms of the sense of place represented in the 48 poems; the approach space, the space for poetic recital, the ideal space, and the space of pleasure.
Establishing Criteria for the Evaluation of Landscape Architectural Works
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 21, issue 3, 1993, Pages 21~33
The evaluation is one of aspects of criticism, and thus it plays many roles in terms of the functions of criticism. The purpose of this study is to examine the evaluating criteria of landscape architectural works. The conclusions of this study are summarized as follows: The essential criterion of the evaluation is 'the originality' with respect to history(or tradition) of landscape architecture. And the sub-criteria of the evaluation can be invented through a frame;[
An Exploration of Theory and Methodology in Landscape Architectural Criticism
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 21, issue 3, 1993, Pages 35~49
The purpose of this study is to establish some concepts, objects, and methodologies which are essential components in the theoretical inquiry of Landscape Architectural Criticism(LAC), and to explore the structure of LAC. Theough comparing the artistic characteristics of landscape architecture with the latent criticism in it, and introducing some important concepts of criticism and aesthetics, the concept of LAC is defined operationally. And through grasping changes of the definitions and concepts about landscpae architecture, and classifying the fields of it which are related to critical structure, the objects of LAC are established. According to Virgil C. Aldrich and many other aestheticians, general aspects of criticism are divided into
description. Through these aspects and Wayne Attoe's opinion(which seemed to be generalized in architectural), the pertinent methodologies of LAC are explored.
Studies on the Forecasting of Demand for Natural Recreation Forest
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 21, issue 3, 1993, Pages 51~64
Meeting the rapidly increasing demand for natural outdoor recreation, Korea Forestry Administration established 26 places of
Natural Recreation Forest
zones. By 2000 year, 100 zones were planned to cover the entire country. But there was no accurate information about demand of
Natural Recreation Forest
. Therefore, this study was carried out to forecast the quantitive demand of
Natural Recreation Forest
. To forecast the 'demand of 2001 year, forecasting unit was determined to
, and three quantifing methods were applied. The results of demand by each forecating method were as follows: 1) Questionnaire survey method for willingness to participate was 16,651,000(visitor. day). 2) application of similiar situation threshold method was 14,540,000(visitor. day). 3) Demand partition method by secondary data was 10,775,000(visitor, day). Comprised of these results. The scope estimate of
Natural Recreation Forest
demand was proposed as 8,110,000(Minimum) - 27,088,000(Miximum). The point estimate of demand which were proposed as strategic guidelines was 16,651,000(visitor. day). These results implied that recently announced 111 predetermined
Natural Recreation Forest
zones supposed to be overcrowded meeting the forcasted demand level of 2001 year.
User's Perception of Crowding in Lawn Areas in Park
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 21, issue 3, 1993, Pages 65~75
This study was carried out to analyze the user's perception of crowding in lawn areas in parks. On-site questionnaire survey was executed to study the variables which influence the Perception of Crowding(PC). The survey sites were lawn areas at
in Bo-mun Resort Complex in Kyung-ju. The major results were as follows; 1. Generally, in site's frequency of use, 2-3 times a year ranked as the highest (49%), and in user's residence, Busan and Pohang were highly ranked. As the purpose of visit, two survey sites showed differently. In
, family picnic ranked high, but in case of
, it had the tendency to the use of adult group and the rally for union. 2. By the results of the analysis of variables related to perceived crowding(PC), perceived density(PD) was the most influensive variables, nuisances by other users(NU) and expected crowding(EC) were another influensive variables. The candidate regression model is, PC=-0.125+0.597(PD)+0.409(NU)+0.307(EC) (R2=0.4592). 3. In variables, related to use density, perceived density(PD) was more influensive and significant variables than actual use density(AD). 4. In planning and design of lawn areas in park,
is recommended than
. The lawn areas of
are more desirable and accommodative than
in overuse situation.
A Study on the Preservation and Management Technique of Urban Skylines
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 21, issue 3, 1993, Pages 77~88
This study is a fundamental research to propose the preservation and management technique of urban skylines in case of Seoul City, and to find landscape resources that based on investigation of characteristics of urban landscape. The question are is designed for citizens' perception of urban landscaped. The results of this study is summarized as follows.; 1) The representative landscapes in Seoul City are chiefly Mt.Nam, Hand River, 63 Bldg, Kyungbokgung, Namdaemum, etc. The difference of the reasons of reasons of chosing for representative landscapes is that there must be a certain difference in direction of preservation and management of the landscape. 2) The ward which don't have obvious representative landscapes requires process survey and designation for representative landscapes, and technique for strenghtening them. 3) The major places of viewing the impressive or beautiful landscape are classfied into places of viewing whole Seoul City(ex;Mt.Nam, 63 Bldg, Seoul Toewr, MT.Kwanak, etc) and places of viewing Han River(ex;Youido Square, Olympic Road, Riverside parks of Han River etc). 4) For conservation and management of urban landscapes, it is requisitive for harmony of preservation and management technique between Seoul City and each ward.
Development and Application of the Park Tree Management Information System
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 21, issue 3, 1993, Pages 89~98
It is necessary for the park tree manager to have the current information about the status of trees, which can help him with right decisions. However, there are many problems in the existing management method such as huge amount of data, tedious work, and the difficult update work due to the lack of necessary data or the inappropriate data record and management method. The sole use of database management system(DBMS) cannot slove these problems because it cannot handle graphic data based on the locational information. So, it is imperative for the park manager to have locational data as well as attribute data of the park tree concerned. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop the personal computer-based, user friendly park tree management information system, which deals with attribute data(DBMS) and graphic data(using the CAD) together within the integrated environment. The park tree management information system developed in this study provides a complete operating environment for data input, update, query, delete, and retrieve. The major advantages of this system are as follows: 1) To search the location and distribution of trees. 2) To record, store, and manage data easily. 3) When the manager is changed, delivery of the park tree work is convenient. 4) The system can help the manager with the correct information for the efficient park tree management.
Studies on the Propagation and Planting of Ilex serrate Thunb
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 21, issue 3, 1993, Pages 99~104
The objectives of this study were investigation of the sutiable propagation method by softwood cuttings of female Ilex serrata, the comparison of sex determination of Ilex serrata after seeding and the fruiting percentage of the Ilex serrata male and female. The results obtained were as follows. 85 percentage of the seed were germinated with three months cold stratification. 35 percentage of female plant were observed after seeding. Cuttings should be rooted on late June using a quick dipping of 1,000ppm IBA solution. The rooting rate of the softwood cuttings treated IBA 1,000pm on June 22 in a closed moist chamber with 50% shade screen was 72.2 percentage. The suitable planting of male and female of Ilex serrata was male one versus female thirteen in a distance of 50 meter.
A Study on the Methods of Increasing Landscape Area in Building Sites
Journal of the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture, volume 21, issue 3, 1993, Pages 105~115
A Purpose of this study is to suggest the methods of increasing landscape area in building sites. There are several means by which landscape design operates. Development bonuses are used to encourage developers to include plazas or walkways or some attractive public space in a development in exchange for increased floor areas. Special zoning districts, in which locally specific design controls are applied, can be established. Site plan controls can be used to regulate the landscape design and landscape management.
