Hwang, Eui-Jin ; Kim, Woo-Hyeok ; Kim, Young-Gyun ;
Journal of Korean Society for Geospatial Information System, volume 11, issue 1, 2003, Pages 3~12
The main objective of this study is to extract the hydro-Parameter of the Tamjin River basin. A CIS is capable of extracting various hydrological factors from DEM. One of important tasks for hydrological analysis is the division of watershed. In this study, watershed itself and other geometric factors of watershed are extracted from DEM by using a CIS technique. The data of topographical map with scale of 1:25,000 and 1:250,000 in the Tamjin River basin is used for this study and it is converted to DEM date. Various forms of representation of spatial data are handled in main modules and a CRID module of ArcView. A GRID module is used on a stream in order to define watershed boundary. Based on the spatial analysis using those GIS technique, it would be possible to obtain the reasonable results of watershed characteristics. Also, the results show not only that GIS can aid watershed management, research and surveillance, but also that the geometric characteristics as parameters of watershed can be quantified more accurately and easily than conventional graphic methods. From the equations(
), it can be concluded that the optimal count of flow accumulation is 468 and cell size is 42m for spatial analysis by using GIS technique in Tamjin River basin.
Contrast Enhancement of Remotely Sensed Images Using Histogram Equalization
Seo, Yong-Su ;
Journal of Korean Society for Geospatial Information System, volume 11, issue 1, 2003, Pages 13~19
In this paper we discussed the processing procedures of histogram equalization(HE) method and brightness preserving bi-histogram equalization(BBHE) method in the contrast enhancement methods for the performance comparison. With remotely sensed image data of Landsat TM we compared the performances of three methods of Min-Max method, HE method, BBHE method. The experimental results demonstrate that the HE method and BBHE method are more effective in the contrast enhancement performances than the Min-Max method. In the HE method the mean brightness of the resultant output images approached to the middle gray level with regardless of input image mean. In the BBHE method, it is capable of preserving the mean brightness of a original image compared to the HE method while enhancing the contrast of original image effectively. Thus BBHE method is provided more natural enhancement effect than the HE method.

Jeon, Kwon-Seok ;
Journal of Korean Society for Geospatial Information System, volume 11, issue 1, 2003, Pages 21~28
This study was aimed at suggest a proper planning method to select a optimal forest road network in mountains forest using GIS(Geographic Information System). To examine the field applicability, the method was applied to the National Forest at Mt. Kumsan in Namhae-gun, Gyungsangnam-do. The main results from altogether six alternative road route plans were derived from these criteria obtained the alternative route plan No.2 has two layout criteria, longitudinal gradient and earth work volume, and it showed similar pattern of existing forest road network which was designed mainly ground slope and longitudinal gradient. The alternative route plan No.6 has four criteria, longitudinal gradient, earth work volume, investment effect and landscape impact. It was different for the lowest forest road density among the alternatives and the pattern of the forest road layout was radial form, which was also quite different to other alternatives. For optimal forest road network planning, GIS provide the efficient and resonable solutions for decision making to provide the support for evaluation about various alternative road networks. If detailed inventory and relevant data are provided and also clear and objective indicators for evaluations are set up, it could be applied to preliminary analysis and detail planning stage to prevent undesirable effect such the land slide and soil erosion due to inadequate planning for forest road network.

Journal of Korean Society for Geospatial Information System, volume 11, issue 1, 2003, Pages 29~37
The High-resolution satellite images are able to get the latest information of wide range area and to shorten updating cycle of digital map better than the aerial images. Especially, as high-resolution satellite images are opened to public recently and able to be used commercially, the studies that make ortho-images using them and apply to the digital mapping and the database of geo-spatial information system are having been progressed actively. Therefore, the purposes of this study are to establish the auto-extraction methods and to develop algorithms for automatically extracting buildings which are distributed very much in urban areas and which updating cycle needs to shorten, out of man-made structures in the IKONOS ortho-image with 1m spatial resolution. The result of this study, we can extract automatically extract 72% out of the whole buildings. And we could know that the methods and algorithms proposed in this study are good relatively analyzing the error trend by means of the comparison with ortho-image, digital map and hawing result.

Lee, Jung-Min ; Jeong, In-Ju ; Kim, Sang-Yong ;
Journal of Korean Society for Geospatial Information System, volume 11, issue 1, 2003, Pages 39~44
Recently, GIS has been increasing its applicability in water resource field. The GIS based modeling process can generally be used for extracting channel network and watershed delineation. Through the overlay analysis, the extracted channel network can be overlayed with topographic and landuse maps to generate the input files for running a hydrologic model. This lead to consider GIS as a tool which can include subjective factors of the model designers in hydrologic analysis. Therefore, this study has compared GIS based HEC-GEOHMS with the classical approach. In general, both approaches have similar results, however, HEC-GROHMS has showed some errors. Based on the results, a GIS based approach could be more effective method with better credibility to obtain input parameters from topographic information as subsequent efforts were made to lessen the errors.
