Strategic deployment of GIS for fashion Industries

These days GIS have rapidly deployed as input and solutions to marketing decision making problems and corresponding decision support systems in many countries including Korea. Its powerful spatial analysis tools along with data integration and graphic display capabilities let many retailers and manufacturers in fashion industry to accept GIS as a useful mean for their decision making systems. At this moment, this paper presents many facets of discussions on how GIS be applied to fashion marketing decision making problems. From provoking several questions on current fashion marketing decision making system to explaining multiattribute decision making and multiobjective decision making as tools for decision making analysis and discussing some implementation issues, this paper revealed many aspects of GIS and fashion marketing decision support system from integration point of view.
Evaluation of GPS Data Applicability to Traffic Information Collection after SA Removal

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the applicability of GPS data for real-time traffic information collection especially after SA removal. Two major results have been reported. One is the GPS data availability and/or useful data point density for travel time estimation using Circle-X algorithm. 87.23% of data points can be mobilized after SA whereas only 29.94% of data was useful in calculating travel time. The other is the possible reduction of the buffer size that is used for screening the points of all GPS into useful and useless data, respectively. With these outcomes, it is safely expected that the regular GPS alone can provide the data points for real-time travel time estimation instead of the more expensive DGPS system.
3D GSIS Application for Managing Flood Disaster

Floods are disastrous natural phenomena which result in numerous losses of life and property. It is possible to minimize the potential risk by adopting a disaster management system. Nowadays, Geo-Spatial Information System(GSIS) and computer-modelling techniques have assisted scientists and engineers with determining flood disaster assessments, GIS technologies especially have the advantage of performing spatial analysis as well as generating the model for a flood hazard. Therefore, this paper presents the flood management system based on 3D GSIS that can cope with natural disasters actively and manage flood hazard systematically by constructing the database using hydrological data, digital map, DEM, and high-resolution satellite images.
Development of Forest Management System for the Efficient Treatment of Forest Service

As social demands on forest are diversified, we need some economic and pro-environmental methods of forest management. In this study, developing an FMS(Forest Management System) using GIS techniques, we aimed at making workers handle quickly and exactly their works related to forest, offering customers the exact information and making clients modify or renew the variously changing information about forest. Therefore, we can efficiently handle the works related to forest management. For this, we designed and developed the system to be in accord with working-level and we can handle various information efficiently and conveniently. Accordingly we can process and print out data based on each subject. In addition to that, we can preserve the consistency of data by connecting work zones and providing database through network.
A Study on the Determination of SCS-CN Using GIS

The SCS-CN method was known to have difficulties to the applied to the mountainous area like Korean river basins. This study focused to develop a distributed SCS-CN method considering river basin slopes from GIS data. For the purpose, the method was applied to Sulma river and compared with area weighted average method and distributed SCS-CN method using GIS. According to the results, SCS-CN method considering river basin slopes provided better effects on the estimating effective rainfall on the other methods. The necessity of the generalization of the results to the other rivers was discussed.
Location reference technique of ITS Space Database supporting interoperability

The purpose of this paper is to study a scheme to ITS service which enables the data (spatial, non-spatial and image) sharing among heterogeneous system (various environment) with employing the concept of object orientedness and to show Location Reference Technique of ITS Space DB for interoperability. Data warehouse service, query object service, interface object service, and naming object service have been identified for this. In addition, a metadata management object service and persistent object service based system framework has been devised. The proposed skeletal framework would be expected to be functioning well for ITS data sharing environment and for the interoperability support.
Accuracy Analysis of Virtual Reference Station's Data by GPS Continuous Reference Station's Network

More recently, multiple reference based RTK GPS techniques(VRS ; Virtual Reference System) are becoming increasingly important for many precise GPS applications in many countries to overcome the constrained distance limitations of standard RTK systems. The precision of the position solutions of the rover receiver is closely connected with that of the corresponding virtual reference points(VRPs). The objective of this paper is to investigate the accuracy and performance of the VRPs on the test network have been made in post mode, and the overall analysis results were presented by comparing the solutions for the VRPs from the existing GPS reference station with the true values of the coordinates used to produce the observation data. The results show the reasonable accuracies of VRPs in the network area by using the VRS concept in post mode.
Construction of Information System for Cultural Heritages Management Using Web

Since 20th century, the rapid growth in economy development and ill-advisable construction of infrastructure which causing injury of nature has generated an El Nino phenomenon problems. For this reason, establishment of heritage preservation plan is being required to prevent damages of important cultural assets from natural disaster. In this study, we obtained both 3D-dxf and VRML-wrl(which support 3D image) files from stone pagodas(stone cultural heritages) by using the digital photogrammetric program. Then database are formed by these two files with other attribute informations. And we made existing cultural heritages management information data format to be unified using JAVA, HTML, and Cosmo Player. Thus, we could construct the web-server for Cultural Heritages Management Information System to contribute not only effective management but also ease of use for expert or amateur user in using of cultural assets informations. And, in virtual reality system, we could make texture presented like as actual texture by using the VRML program.
A Study on Generating a Coastal Flood Hazard Map Using GIS

Since there are a lot of changes in climate on domestic and natural disasters owing to the disturbance-development of the land, damages of properties and human life frequently occur due to the coastal floodings. Accordingly, it is necessary to find the area where the danger of flooding coasts is relatively high and to inform resident the characteristics of the area As a part of preventive land management to minimize the flooding damages of the coastal area, this study suggested the generation of the coastal flood hazard map that provides detailed information such as refuge path, a place of refuge, and the location of medical supplies, food, and main rescue equipment, etc. This study selected the southern region of Daebu-do as an exemplary area, conducted a document study to establish GIS data, secured pre-structured data, and suggested the method of establishing GIS data fit to the study area. In particular, it emphasized the efficient construction of the geographical spatial data that were accurate, economic, objective, and realistic in supporting the modeling to predict the flooding zone. The specific type of established database was divided into flooding risk area, flooding warning area, and flooding-volume area. The prototype of coastal flood hazard map can be widely used for efficient disaster management. Furthermore, it is considered that the map could be applied for arousing residents' attentions to the flooding, prior education, and local governments' management actions against the danger of flooding.
Development of Cost-Benefit Analysis Model for GIS Projects

The GIS(Geographic Information System) projects require big initial investment and cost of maintenance. Decision makers would not launch GIS projects unless they are convinced of the benefits of the projects. Therefore the purpose of this paper is to develop an appropriate model for GIS project evaluation. We proposed a GIS project evaluation model and summarize the steps involved in Cost-Benefit Analysis(CBA). The costs of a GIS implementation include hardware and software cost, costs of database development, training expenses, annual maintenance expenses, and other annual expenses. The benefit by using GIS has been assessed into Type I(direct benefits), Type II(indirect benefits), Type III(benefits that result from the sale of information services), Type IV(intangible benefits).
