Development of Java/VRML-based 3D GIS's Framework and Its Prototype Model

Recently, 3D GIS based on 3D geo-processing methodology and Internet environment are emerging issues in GIS fields. To design and implement 3D GIS, the strategic linkage of Java and VRML is first regarded: 3D feature format definition in the passion of conventional GIS including aspatial attributes, 3B feature indexing, 3D analytical operators such as selection, buffering, and Near, Metric operation such as distance measurement and statistical description, and 3D visualization. In 3D feature format definition, the following aspects are implemented: spatial information for 3D primitives extended from 2D primitives, multimedia data, object texture or color of VRML specification. DXF-format GIS layers with additional attributes are converted to 3D feature format and imported into this system. While, 3D analytical operators are realized in the form of 3D buffering with respect to user-defined point, line, polygon, and 3D objects, and 3D Near functions; furthermore, 'Lantern operator' is newly introduced in this 3D GIS. Because this system is implemented by Java applet, any client with Java-enable browser including VRML browser plug-in can utilize the new style of 3D GIS function in the virtual space. Conclusively, we present prototype of WWW-based 3D GIS, and this approach will be contribute to development of core modules on the stage of concept establishment and of real application model in future.
The Development on 3D Geographical Information Guide System using Augmented Reality

In general, GIS provides a user with geographical information according to his requirements after a computer stores digitized spatial data from real scenes. Geographical information from digitized spatial data lacks of reality due to the exclusion of real scenes. However, Augmented Reality(AR) allows a user to see the real world with virtual objects superimposed upon or composited with the real world. Therefore it enhances a user's perception of the real world. In this paper, we present the development on 3D geographical information guide system using augmented reality that displays the real world with virtual objects such as building name, road name, etc., in real time.
Unique Feature Identifier for Utilizing Digital Map

A Unique Feature Identifier(UFID) is a way of referring to a feature, generally representing a tangible feature in the real world. In other words, a UFID uniquely identifies the related feature in the database and is normally used to link two or more databases together. This paper presents a UFID system aiming at the internal uses for National Geography Institute(NGI) as well as external uses for National Geographic Information System(NGIS) generally to link datasets together. The advantage of the proposed type of UFID lies in the meaningful nature of the identifier in providing a direct spatial index - administrative area and feature code. The checksum character proposed in this research is designed to remove any uncertainty about the number being corrupt. It will account lot digit transposition during manual input as well as corruption in transfer or processing.
A GIS Based Technique for Analyzing Traffic Accidents

This article aims at presenting a new framework for traffic accident analysis by proposing a new methodology for the management of the accident data and by establishing the relationship between accidents and roadway characteristics within it For the first issue, authors introduced geographic information system (GIS) into the analysis framework of the accident data since it is believed that analysis based on GIS seems to provide more effective information in reducing accidents. Point-based, line-based, and polygon (grid)-based approaches were set of along with concrete examples. Especially, the location-based scores such as localization, specialization coefficients, and Tress score have been added to identify the intensity of certain accident types within study area or grids. The second issue addressed the equation formulation of accident and fatality numbers with roadway characteristics like number of intersections and road length in a grid with a sense that (1) accidents on roadways are the function of the roadway physical characteristics rather than the socio-economical secondary data (2) the equation can be applied to the any 'suggested' area, not just region or nation, and (3) the accident forecasting model should emphasize the accident location itself more than any other factors. Some equations based on those assumption have been derived along with some future research agenda.
A Study on Installing Air Pollution Emission Systems in Seoul Using GIS and GPS

The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of automatic measuring systems for air pollution emissions in Seoul and to suggest an improvement method using GIS and GPS. In Korea, there have been very few critical researches and managements for mobile and area sources regarding moving subjects such as automobiles. In order to control or to make a plan for reducing air pollutions, air pollution emission data based on tim and location, emission inventory systems and emission models should be implemented. Using digital maps and MS Visual Basic, we developed a visualized interface for air pollution emission data from automatic emission measurement systems in Seoul.
The Spatial Analysis and Acquistion of Precision digital data due to Cultural Properties using the Photogrammetry

The acquisition and analysis system of accurate geometrical digital data is very important in side of maintaining the traditional culture for the preservation of cultural properties. This study is on the construction and shape analysis of precise digital data to manage more successfuly using the CRP method and 3D Mono Mobile System. Also this study could acquisite 3D geometrical digital data, make such various space analysis and section, projection, and calculation of bias, area and volume and modeling by rendering technique on the misterious bell of great king of SungDuck, one of the greatest bells in periods of TongIl Silla. So, We suggest utilization of image analysis method to safety diagnosis for the maintenance of cultural properties, archeological and artistic research.
A study about the management of environmental data and the simulation of BOD using GSIS

In this study, as a method for management of waterquality in stream, we build a database on a environmental information such as a pollution source, a waterquality. And especially, we simulate the BOD concentration which is a index indicate the status of organic pollution in stream. Also This study purposes not only building a database on all sorts of envirnomental data, but also searching, statistic and analysis of the database. The result of this study enables us to see and understand contamination state in stream esaily, so it can help to enhance the attention. Also, we can quickly know study area and the degree of effects when water contamination occurs abruptly. And also, we can compare and know pollution source state and the pollutant load among districts. It is expected to use it as an auxiliary basis when we make a policy about pollutant load reduction, because we can know the extent of the pollution in strean by each a pollution source.
A Study on the Building of Road Facilities Management System - Focused on Bridge and Tunnel -

This paper deals with the building of road facility management system lot the efficient and scientific management of road infrastructure by making use of Database with a variety of biridge and tunnel - related informations such as maps, registers and documents(graphical and nongraphical data). The main objectives of the creating of the Database are the rational maintenance planning for facilities and the systematization of information management through the fast updating, mending and supplement. Some actual data sourced from the administrative office could be tested in order to validate this road facility management system and we could acquire many valuable results. Therefore we can expect to play an important role of results in the practical use for the management of the various md facilities.
Monitoring of hot waste water spread from coastal power station by the Landsat TM images

The spreading of hot waste water discharged from the coastal power station is a new problem to marin e circumstances and the fishery. Because the survey of hot waste water discharges should be performed is multaneously across wide areas, it is very difficult. Some sensors of the Landsat can draw the spread and distribution of water temperature from wavelength range of thermal infrared. The present study applied the GIS after stretching DN for the purpose of drawing a more accurate distribution of water temperature. Accordingly, the pattern of water temperature distribution could be expressed more precisely for a broad area, and the spread and distribution of hot waste water could be analyzed economically.
The Evaluation of Position Accuracy to 1:1,000 and 1:5,000 scale Digital Map

National digital maps (NDM) produced by diverse production methods through various stages are ready to distribute to public. The position accuracy problems in NDM should be inspected and evaluated to guarantee the quality of NDM. The purpose of this study is 1) to find out factors of impeding accuracy by examining the position accuracy of NDM on scales of 1:1,000 and 1:5,000, 2) to form the technical basis of making accurate digital maps and 3) to increase reliability and practical use of NDM. In this study, we found out 1) obstacles of making accurate mM especially in solving horizontal and vertical location accuracy problems and 2) error sources in production methods as well as stages. These results can be contributed to increase accuracy on modifying and upgrading NDM.
