Approximation to the Probability of Downlink Blocking between cdma2000 1X and WCDMA in Urban Handover Areas

This paper proposes downlink blocking model and approximation equation using lower bound approximation in order to determine the proper guard band between cdma2000 1X and WCDMA in handover areas. The frequency sharing conditions obtained by the model and approximation equation on blocking probability proposed in the paper, are co-site of base station and guard band higher than 1 MHz. Also, the proposed equation is in the form of Q-function. It is an analytical solution overcoming the drawback of recalculation, belonged to Monte-Carlo technique.
Cavity-Backed Microstrip Antenna for a Monopulse Radar

A cavity-backed microstrip patch antenna for a monopulse radar system is designed and fabricated. Also, this antenna is shown to be suitable for the system by analyzing the measured results. Since the azimuthal beamwidth required by this system is quite broad compared to that of a usual microstrip antenna, the width of a microstrip patch is reduced considerably. The decrease of an antenna bandwidth due to the reduced patch width is compensated by increasing the effective substrate thickness. A detection range and a detection probability is calculated from the measured gain at a given angle, and this result shows that the fabricated antenna can be applied well to this monopulse radar system.
The Characteristics of MMIC Phase Shifter with Lange Coupler

Aperture Coupled Cylindrical Resonator Oscillator

In this paper, a cylindrical cavity resonator oscillator with high Q factor is designed and fabricated to improve the phase noise characteristic. A cavity resonator is coupled to oscillating circuit using aperture hole. Measured results show that the cylindrical cavity resonator oscillator (CRO) for Ku-band has less phase noise than the dielectric resonator oscillator (DRO) with the same oscillating circuit. It has output power of +3.92 dBm at the center frequency 13.4015250 GHz and phase noise of -109 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset.
A New PIN Diode Model for Voltage-Controlled PIN Diode Attenuator Design

This paper presents a new model that can precisely simulate the attenuation characteristics of the voltage-controlled PIN diode attenuators. After carefully investigating the problems in the conventional PIN diode models, a new PIN diode model was proposed and verified with experimental data. The proposed model is well operated when it is used in the voltage-controlled mode as well as current-controlled mode, and is simple and straightforward model, since the PN junction diode of this model has the same curve as that of the PIN diode. This model is very effective to design voltage-controlled attenuator and its implementation in commercial simulators is simple and accurate. This model will allow RF and Microwave designers to better use the PIN diodes in various circuits.
Performance Evaluation and Theoretical Model for the Polarization Diversity using Circularly Polarized Waves in N-LOS Radio Environments

In this paper, we analyzed a two-branch polarization diversity at a mobile station in NLOS environment when a base station transmits a circularly polarized wave. In order to calculate the correlation coefficient considering the XPD(cross polarization discrimination) between the received signals for the two diversity branches, a simple theoretical model of circular polarization diversity is adopted. From the analysis results, it can be seen that the XPD of circularly polarized wave is less than vertically polarized wave about 6~7 dB in measurement results. And also, it is clearly seen that the correlation coefficient of circular polarization diversity evaluated by the XPD is less than that of vertical polarization diversity.
Design and Performance Analysis of 100 Mbps M-ary PPM/TH Ultra-Wideband Communication Systems in the AWGN Channels

In this paper we proposed system parameter values of M-ary PPM/TH(Pulse Position Modulation/Time Hopping) ultra-wideband systems having data rate of 100 Mbps for the frequency band, which is allocated by Federal Communications Commission(FCC). We also analyzed performance of the proposed system in the AWGN channels. According to the results of performance analysis, It is observed that available pulse duration is very limitative for this system. In case of constant data rate, if M and the pulse repetition numbers are increased, then the system performance is improved and the user number is decreased.
RF Transceiver Implementation to Evaluate the Requirements of 3G W-CDMA User Equipment

This paper describes the RF performance issues of UE for W-CDMA system based on 3 GPP specifications. The parameters of transmitter and receiver are derived from the viewpoint of RF performance. In order for UE to achieve high performance, the transceiver performance requirements such as ACLR, EVM, Peak Code Domain Error, spectrum emission mask, frequency error stability and TX power control dynamic range for transmitter and reference sensitivity level, blocking characteristics, noise figure, ACS, AGC dynamic range for receiver are considered. On the basis of the required parameters, the UE RF transceiver is implemented and then the evaluation of RF performance is accomplished through practical test scenarios.
3-Dimensinal Microstrip Patch Antenna for Miniaturization

In this paper, to reduce the resonant length of patch, microstrip patch antenna of linear polarization which is suppressed at two radiation edges is designed and fabricated at the frequency of 1.575 GHz. The result is like that the resonant length of patch is 45 mm and the length reduction effect is 43.8 % when it is compared with that(80 mm) of plane type. The gain is 4.4 dBd and -3 dB beamwidths are 112
in the E-plane and H-plane, respectively. Sensitivity Analysis of the CBS Ku-Band Antenna due to Manufacturing/Alignment Errors

The performance sensitivity analysis due to manufacturing/alignment errors is performed for the Ku-band offset parabola antenna of the domestic Communications and Broadcasting Satellite. The performance variations due to reflector random surface error, which inevitably happens during reflector manufacturing, are statistically analyzed using RMS error and correlation interval. The impact on the antenna performance of the fred hem's position and angular errors is investigated, and the sensitive directions are identified. When the target tolerances are applied, the performance degradations are found to be within the loss budget or corresponding performance margins.
The Design of a Low-Profile Loading Sleeve Monopole for PCS and IMT-2000 Frequency Bands

In this paper, we designed a loading sleeve monopole operating at PCS and IMT-2000 frequency bands using the structure of the broadband loading sleeve monopole. The length of the designed antenna is lower than that of the helical antenna coupled with a whip used in commercial PCS handsets. The length and diameter of the designed antenna are 38 mm and 8 mm, respectively. The designed loading sleeve monopole is fabricated and investigated experimently. The VSWR is less than 1.5 in the PCS and IMT-2000 frequency bands(1750 MHz~2170 MHz) and gain is 3.5 dBi.
Interference Cancellation System using Adaptive Feedback Method

In this paper, the interference cancellation system, which is used to cancel the feedback signal In the wireless communication system with the same frequency, is studied. The time-varying feedback signal generated from transmitter antenna to receiver antenna reduces the performance of the receiver system. The interference cancellation system using adaptive feedback method(AF-ICS) is suggested to prevent the oscillation of the receiver system and maintain the maximum output power of the power amplifier by the reduction of time-varying feedback signal.
Study for the Size Reduction of Microstrip Patch Antenna using Corrugation

In this paper, to reduce the size of patch, three types of 3-dimensional patch antennas which are one-directionally-corrugaged type, rectangular ring-likely corrugated type, and lattice-likely corrugated type rectangular microstrip patch antennas(MPA) are designed and fabricated at the 1.575 GHz. As the result, one-directionally corrugated rectangular MPA is reduced in the resonant length of patch by 21.4% than that of general plane MPA. -10 dB bandwidth(B.W) is 62 MHz(3.9 %) and this is broader than that(39 MHz, 2.5 %) of plane MPA by 23 MHz(1.5 %). The gain is 5.8 dBd and this is reduced by 0.9 dB than that(6.7 dBd) of plane MPA. Half power beamwidth(HPBW) is broadened by 18
than that of plane MPA in the E-plane and this is due to the reduced length of patch. For rectangular ring-likely corrugated retangular MPA, the patch size is miniaturized by 21.6 % than that of plane MPA. For lattice-likely corrugated rectangular MPA, in the linear polarization, the size of patch is miniaturized by 43.3 % than that of plane MPA. -10 dB B.W is 70 MHz(4.4 %) and this is broadened than that of plane MPA by 31 MHz(2 %). Gain is 2.2 dBd and this is smaller than that of plane MPA by 4.5 dB. HPBW is increased in both E-plane and H-plane by 22
, respectively. For circular polarization, the size of patch is reduced by 41 % than that by 41 %. The axial ratio(AR) is 0.8 dB at the 1.575 GHz and the axial ratio bandwidth(ARBW) within 2 dB is 20 MHz(1.27 %) and this is increased by 10 MHz(0.63 %) than that 10 MHz(0.63 %) of plane MPA. From all the results above, it is conformed that the proposed antenna has merit in size reduction of patch and in the input impedance B.W, and is more profitable in many application than the general plane type MPA.
