Phase Noise Prediction of Phase-Locked Loop frequency Synthesizer for Satellite Communication System

The phase noise characteristics of the phase-locked loop frequency synthesizer were predicted based on the analysis for phase noise contribution of noise sources. The proposed phase noise model in this paper more accurately predicts the phase noise spectrum of frequency synthesizer. To accurately model the phase noise contribution of noise sources in frequency synthesizer, the phase noise sources were analyzed via modeling of the frequency divider and phase noise components using Leeson model for reference signal source and VCO. The phase noise transfer functions to VCO from noise sources were analyzed by superposition theory and linear operation of phase-locked loop. To evaluate the phase noise prediction model, the frequency synthesizers were fabricated and were evaluated by measured data and prediction data.
A Study on the Array Antenna for Satellite Broadcasting Receiver

Three types of array antennas are developed for broadcasting band of Koreasat III. First, the specification of the array antenna is decided. Second, characteristics and advantages of three types of antennas using the radial waveguide characteristics is investigated and discussed. Third, design method fur those antenna is studied to meet antenna specifications, and then antennas are designed and tested. Finally, it is concluded that these types of antennas can be efficiently design compared to both parabola antennas and microstrip array within the limited size.
Improved Performance Evaluation Method for EUT in Power Frequency Magnetic Field Immunity Test

In this paper, an improved EUT(Equipment Under Test) evaluation method using image monitor for power frequency magnetic field immunity test was proposed and development of an automated real time image monitoring program was described. The proposed power frequence magnetic field immunity test detects automatically the change between the affected and unaffected image of EUT under the influence of electromagnetic wave. The proposed method for real time decision supplements shortcomings of the currently used method which is subjective to tester´s decision by ensuring the repeatability of the test. The change detection of EUT image provides a possibility of the immunity decision for PC monitors. In addition, the method to draw quantitative value in EUT immunity decision is suggested in accordance with the international standards and domestic trends.
Image Reconstruction of Dielectric Pipes by using Levenberg-Marquardt and Genetic Algorithm

Several dielectric pipes buried in the lossy half space are reconstructed from the scattered fields measured along the interface between the air and the lossy ground. Iterative inversion method by using the hybrid optimization algorithm combining the genetic and the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm enables us to find the positions, the sizes, and the medium parameters such as the permittivities and the conductivities of the buried pipes as well as those of the background lossy half space even when the dielectric pipes are close together. Illposedness of the inversion caused by the errors in the measured scattered fields are regularized by filtering the evanescent modes of the scattered fields out.
Communication Performance Analysis and Characteristics of Frequency Synthesizer in the OFDM/FH Communication System

It is very important to get very high switching speed as well as low phase noise of frequency synthesizer in the OFDM/FH communication system. In this paper we compare the phase noises and switching speeds of the conventional PLL and digital hybrid PLL(DH-PLL) frequency synthesizer, also, we investigate the effect of phase noise on the performance of OFDM/FH communication system. DH-PLL has high switching speed property at the cost of circuit complexity and more power consumption. Unlike the conventional PLL in which the phase noise and switching speed have the trade off relationship in respect of loop filter bandwidth, DH-PLL frequency synthesizer can perform fast switching speed and low phase noise simultaneously. Under the condition of same hopping speed requirement, DH-PLL can achieve faster switching speed and lower SNR penalty compared with conventional PLL in the OFDM/FH communication system.
Effective Iterative Control Method to Reduce the Decoding Delay for Turbo TCM Decoder

In this paper, we propose an efficient iteration control method with low complexity for Turbo TCM(Turbo Trellis Coded Modulation) decoding which will be used fur power-limited environment. As the decoding approaches the performance limit of a given turbo code, any further iteration results in very little improvement. Therefore, it is important to devise an efficient criterion to stop the iteration process and prevent unnecessary computations and decoding delay. This paper presents an efficient algorithm for turbo TCM decoding that can greatly reduce the delay and iteration number. The proposed method use adaptive iteration number according to the criterion using the extrinsic information variance parameter in turbo TCM decoding process. The simulation results show that the proposed technique effectively can reduce the decoding delay and computation with very little performance degradation.
Inductance Extraction of Microstrip Lines using Adaptive PEEC Grid

For high frequency microstrip line modelling, a fast inductance extraction technique using an adaptive PEEC(partial element equivalent circuit) grid is proposed. The grid refinement technique is based on the current distribution depend on the excitation frequencies and the geometry of the microstrip lines. The adaptive ids are refined mainly in the area where heavy currents reside. This technique is applied to the inductance extraction of the microstrip lines. The results show fast convergence, and this adaptive technique is efficient to reduce computing time and the number of grids.
An Analysis of TX/RX Microstrip Single Element using FDTD at Ku-band and 8X4 Array Antenna

In this paper, TX/RX dual operation microstrip single antenna for satellite communication is designed, analyzed, fabricated and measured. TX/RX frequency ranges are 14.0∼l4.5 GHz, 11.7∼12.75 GHz in respectively and vertical and horizontal polarizations are used for TX and RX. This antenna uses microstrip direct feeding for RX and aperture coupled strip-line feeding for TX and accommodates stacked elements for a high directivity and wide impedance bandwidth. In an analysis of single element, FDTD and MOM was compared and FDTD analysis was more accurate because of the consideration of finite structure and imperfect two ground planes. The proposed structure facilitates generally to an extension of two dimensional array and lower an unwanted radiation by strip-line feed in TX. TX/RX 8
4 array has a return loss below -10 dB, -14 dB in TX, RX respectively and a gain ranging from 19.1∼20.7 dB in TX, 21.2∼21.8 dB in RX which has a radiation efficiency of 43∼5l %, 52∼57 %.
A New Tuning Method of Dual-Mode Waveguide Filters for Satellite Transponder

For mass and volume reduction, input demultiplxer and output multiplexer of satellite transponder widely adopt dual-mode waveguide filters fer channel filters. Generally, channel filters of the input demultiplexer are doubly terminated and channel filters of manifold output multiplexer should be singly terminated fur correct operation. This paper gives a tuning method using short-ended dummy cavity for dual-mode cavity filters. Tuning is based on the match of the computed and measured phase response of reflection coefficient. This proposed method is applied to 4-pole dual-mode doubly terminated elliptic response filter and 6-pole dual-mode singly terminated elliptic response filter for demonstration of this new tuning method. It is shown that this method shows good agreement between the experimental and computed results.
Compensation Characteristics of Distorted Channels in 200 Gbps WDM Systems using Mid-Span Spectral Inversion Method

In this paper, the characteristics of compensation for WDM channel signal distortion due to both chromatic dispersion and Ken effect in 1,000 km 200 Gbps(5
40 Gbps) WDM systems was investigated. The WDM system has a path-averaged intensity approximation(PAIA) mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) as a compensation method. This system has a highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber(HNL-DSF) optical phase conjugator(OPC) in the mid-way of transmission line. In order to evaluate the degree of compensation, 1 dB eye opening penalty(EOP), bit error rate(BER) characteristics and power penalty of 10
-9/ BER are used. It is confirmed that HNL-DSF is an useful nonlinear medium in OPC fur wideband WDM system with PAIA MSSI and that the optimal compensation for WDM channel distortion is achieved by the selection of pump light power of OPC, which equalize the conjugated light power into the second half fiber section with the input WDM signal light power depending on total transmission length, dispersion coefficient of fiber, OPC pump light wavelength, conversion efficiency of WDM channel in OPC.
The Design of Broadband PIFA for Hand-Held Mobile Phones

This paper suggests the PIFA structure modified antenna in which short-circuit plate is located between planar element and ground plane, in order to solve the problem of narrow band of existing internal antenna, PIFA. It is also suggested that internal antenna has the perturbation in the patch to broaden the frequency bandwidth. It is possible that the antenna is installed into the mobile telephone with a low profile condition(h=0.015 λ) to use internally, and acquired desired bandwidth(5.2 %) through double resonance structure, remodeling the PIFA that is already well-known as an internal antenna. r/) to be slim type antenna. It is compared with existing PIFA bandwidth, and is suggested pattern as the H.E plane. It is simulated using the Microwave Studio of the CST Inc. based on FIM(Finite Integration Method) method and analyzed antenna characteristic following the variation each parameters. The result proved the practical use of PIFA antenna by comparing the measured and simulated data of the antenna.
An Effect of Electrical Interconnect in Optical Transceiver Module

Design of a Magnetic Field Source for In Vivo Experiments at Extremely Low Frequency

In this paper, the design parameters for the magnetic field source at extremely low frequency are proposed. This facility can be used fur in vivo experiments with small animals to investigate biological response to the driving magnetic fields. In case that the exposed animals are motionless, the animals may be affected by the directivity of driving field. To avoid this effect, a 2-axis ELF magnetic field driving apparatus was designed. The optimum location and number of turns of each coil were obtained by numerical analysis. Applying these data to the MATLAB code(for computation), the magnetic field distribution was obtained. The calculation result fur a well-designed facility showed that the space in which the amplitude of the magnetic field lies within the 95 % of the magnetic field distribution was more than 60 % of each axis length.
Characteristics and Applications of the Tapered Feedline with Strong Coupling

New feeding structures using linearly and exponentially tapered lines to planar microstrip resonators are proposed. These can overcome the design problems from coupling losses and impedance mismatching by increasing the coupling efficiency. The variation of its feeding angle is evaluated for the insertion loss and bandwidth and the feedline length is optimized at λ
g//2. The ring resonators and patches fed by the tapered line have been designed and implemented. The experimental results show that the insertion loss is enhanced by about 7 dB. Both rings and antennas are better matched, without disturbing the single-mode resonance or distorting their radiation pattern
An Applicable Method of an Electromagnetic Wave Absorber for SAR Reduction in the Human Head Exposed to Electromagnetic Fields Radiated by a Cellular Phone

In order to reduce the specific absorption rate(SAR) in a human head exposed to electromagnetic fields radiated by a cellular phone, we have analyzed an electromagnetic wave absorber attached to the handset. A manufactured electromagnetic wave absorber was composed of Mn - Zn, which had complex relative permittivity of 7.30-j0.05 and permeability of 2.20-i1.55. The SAR value from the electromagnetic wave absorber attachment was calculated by using the nonuniform finite difference time domain(FDTD) algorithm and measured by phantom model at 835 MHz. The SAR reduction due to the electromagnetic wave absorber are about 18 % at 835 MHz. The V.S.W.R and radiation pattern of antenna are good agreement with the normal antenna. The gain reduction due to the electromagnetic wave absorber are only 0.3 dB at 835 MHz. But the sensitivity of cellular phone generally improves about 1 dB.
Optical Noise Reduction in A Wireless Optical System using Two Orthogonal Polarizers

In this paper, a circular orthogonal polarizer is newly fabricated and used in a differential detector to reduce the optical noise in a wireless optical interconnection. The orthogonal polarizer is composed of two semicircular polarizers whose transmission axes are orthogonal each other, The orthogonal polarizer is driven by a motor and matched to the signal polarization in order to reduce the optical noise interference. The noise power was reduced by about 20 dB using a differential detector with the orthogonal polarizer.
