Design of A Narrow-Band Orthomode Transducer Operating at Ku-Band

In this paper, a technique is presented f3r the design of a structurally simple narrow-band orthomode transducer (OMT) operating at 12/14 GHz frequency bands. The proposed OMT has such a structure that a horizontally polarized wave incident on the circular waveguide of the common port is directed to the rectangular waveguide of the straight port, while the vertically polarized wave is directed to the rectangular waveguide of the side port. Firstly methods are developed f3r designing individual parts of the OMT based on the waveguide theory and the theory of impedance matching. Secondly based on developed methods the whole OMT structure is designed using a commercial electromagnetic field analysis software. The validity of the proposed design technique is confirmed by fabricating and testing the designed OMT.

High Efficiency Slot Array Based on a Single Waveguide-Fed Cavity Backed Sub-Array

The antenna array for receiving satellite broadcasting of Koreasat III is proposed. A cavity-backed slot antenna array is proposed to reduce feed line loss, increase the radiation efficiency, and make the feed network simple. A sub-array consists of
slot elements backed by a single cavity. By proper choice of dimensions it is shown that the proposed antenna has characteristics of the high radiation efficiency and the broad frequency bandwidth. Antenna characteristics for the array antenna with 256 elements are measured in Ku-band. A single cavity backed-sub-array has the gain of 18 dEi. The gam of the total antenna array(256 elements) is Over 33 dEi.
Impedance Calculation of the Rectangular Power Plane by the Waveguide Model

A novel impedance model is proposed fur the rectangular power plane along with the analytic impedance expression derived from it. The power plane is modeled as a section of a rectangular waveguide with appropriate boundary conditions around its periphery. As a result, the derived impedance expression based on the proposed model has the one-dimensional series form, which is simpler and computationally more efficient than the existing formula based on cavity model of the power plane.
A Simultaneous Compensation for the CPE and ICI in the OFDM System

OFDM technique was adopted as the standard of IEEE 802.1 la and it has been widely used for wireless LAN, European DVB/DAB system, Korean DMB system. In the standard of IEEE 802.11a the data packet is composed of two parts, preamble and data. Preamble is composed of short pilots and long pilots, which are used for synchronization and estimation of frequency offset and channel. We can also compensate phase noise effect in the transceiver by using above pilots. The phase noise is more complicate than frequency offset and seriously affects system performance. In this paper, we newly propose CPE and ICI simultaneous compensation method to compensate phase noise generated by transceiver oscillator and compare with previous studies. As results, phase noise effect can be significantly compensated by CPE cancellation method, PNS algorithm and our proposed CPE and ICI compensation method. Especially, the proposed CPE and ICI compensation method can achieve the best BER performance compared with original OFDM, CPE cancellation method and PNS algorithm.
Hybrid Type Structure Design and DLT-Replacement Circuit of the High-Speed Frequency Synthesizer

The conventional PLL(phase locked loop) frequency synthesizer takes a long switching time because of the inherent closed-loop structure. The digital hybrid PLL(DH-PLL) which includes the open-loop structure into the conventional PLL synthesizer has been studied to overcome this demerit. It operates in high speed, but the hardware complexity and power consumption are the serious problem because the DLT(digital look-up table) is usually implemented by the ROM which contains the transfer characteristic of VCO(voltage controlled oscillator). This paper proposes a new DH-PLL using a very simple DLT-replacement digital logic instead of the complex ROM-type DLT. Also, a timing synchronization circuit for the very small over-shoot and shorter settling time is designed for the ultra fast switching speed at every frequency synthesis. The hardware complexity gets decreased to about
as compared with the conventional DH-PLL. The high speed switching characteristic of the frequency synthesis process can be verified by the computer simulation and the circuit implementation.
Characteristics of Electromagnetically Coupled Small Broadband Monopole Antenna with Multiple Shorting Pins

This paper presents the characteristics of the electromagnetically coupled small broadband disk-loaded monopole antenna with multiple shorting pins. The electromagnetically coupled monopole antenna can achieve broad bandwidth by controlling resonant frequency of the rectangular disk-loaded monopole and a probe with the spiral strip line monopole. The number and arrangement of the shorting pin affect the capacitance of the disk. The variation of the capacitance changes resonant frequency of the antenna, and therefore, its electrical sizes and frequency bandwidth are also affected. Square Patch Antanna with Switchable Polarization Using Spur-line and PIN Diode

In this paper, a novel microstrip patch antenna with switchable polarization is proposed. The proposed antenna has a simple structure, consisting of a square radiating patch, a pair of L-type spur-lines, and a microstrip line feed. It can produce either linear polarization or circular polarization by setting the diode on or off From the measured results, low cross polarization levels when operated in the linear polarization, and good axial ratios in the circular state have been observed.
Design of Quadrature CMOS VCO using Source Degeneration Resistor

A new schematic of quadrature voltage controlled oscillator(QVCO) is designed and fabricated. To obtain quadrature characteristic and low phase noise simultaneously, two differential VCOs are forced to un in quadrature mode by using coupling amplifier with a source degeneration resistor, which is optimized to obtain quadrature accuracy with minimum phase noise degradation. The designed QVCO was fabricated in standard CMOS technology. The measured performance showed the phase noise of below -120 dBc/Hz at 1 MHEz frequency offset, tuning bandwidth of 210 MHz from 2.34 GHz to 2.55 GHz with a tuning voltage varying form 0 to 1.8 V Quadrature error of 0.5 degree and amplitude error of 0.2 dB was measured with conjunction with low-lF mixer. The fabricated QVCO requires 19 mA including 5 mA in the VCO core part fiom a 1.8 V supply.
Internal Monopole Antenna Design for Multiband Operation and SAR Analysis

In this paper, meander-line planar monopole antenna mounted on PCS/IMT-2000/WLAN handset for SAR reduction is designed. Frequency characteristics and SAR value optimized with various design parameters are analyzed and designed. Designed internal monopole antenna mounted on the handset is simulated. The 1 g and 10 g peak average SARs of internal monopole antenna are 0.656 and 0.387 W/kg respectively. And internal monopole antenna and external monopole antenna attached on the handset are tested. As a result, internal monopole antenna 1 g and 10 g peak average SARs are 0.686 and 0.356 W/kg. And external monopole antenna's results are 1.33 and 0.812 W/kg, respectively. A Study on MC DS-CDMA with Subcarrier-Spacing over Nakagami-m Fading Channel

In this paper, we analyzed the orthogonal MC DS-CDMA system and no-overlapping MC DS-CDMA System, which were divided by the normalized spacing between adjacent subcarrier over Nakagami-m fading channels. In order to reduce the number of selective paths occurring in the MC system, the Hybrid SCMRC technique was applied, which was compared with the case when the MRC technique was used. As a result of simulations, it was found that the Hybrid SC/MRC method could be replaced by the MRC method and if the number of subcarriers was increased when the given bandwidth was fixed, the interval between subcarriers increased and bigger bandwidths were required. an, the number or subcarriers should be selected in consideration or given bandwidth.
Gigabit Ethemet Upstream Transmission over WDM-PON Employing Remotely Wavelength-Locked Fabry-Perot Lasers

A Gigabit Ethernet upstream transmission over a WDM-PON employing remotely wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot lasers has been demonstrated. We have successfully demonstrated a WDM transmission of four Gigabit Ethernet channels with 100 GHz channel spacing over 30 km conventional single mode fiber. The measured f-factor was larger than 17.1 dB. We have also investigated the beating noise characteristics of a wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser and showed the remotely wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser suppresses the intensity noise of the incoherent light injected, which cause a 6.3 dB SNR improvement compared with that of the conventional spectrum-sliced light source.
