Spatial Spectrum Estimation of Incident Signal Via Measured Array Manifold

A method for measuring array manifold which is the array antenna response of incident signal is presented. Array manifold measurement procedure by the presented method is explained for UCA(Uniform Circular Array), and spatial spectrum of 300 ㎒ tone signal incident on UCA is estimated by MUSIC algorithm in which spatial spectrum peak is searched with measured array manifold. Spatial spectrum estimation using array manifold measured by the proposed method shows superior performance to calculated array manifold.
BER Performance Analysis of Groupwise Iterative- Multipath Interference Cancellation(GWI-MPIC) Algorithm for Coherent HSDPA System

This paper drives the exact expression of bit error rate(BER) performance for groupwise iterative-multipath interference cancellation(GWI-MPIC) algorithm for cancelling multipath interference components in a coherent high-speed downlink packet access(HSDPA) system of W-CDMA downlink and the BER performance is evaluated by numerical analysis. The performance of GWI-MPIC is compared to the successive interference cancellation(SIC) algorithm for multipath components. From numerical results, the optimal average BER performance of weighting factor
h/ for interference cancellation is obtained at ‘
h/=0.8’ and then this weighting factor is hereafter applied to other performance analysis. Numerical results showed that the average BER performance of GWI-MPIC algorithm is rapidly degraded at multipath L=6, but is revealed the good performance than that of SIC algorithm in terms of increasing the number of multipath. This results also indicated that the average BER performance is greatly degraded due to increasing interference power more than multicode K=8. The average BER performance of the proposed algorithm is superior to the performance of SIC algorithm about 3 ㏈ for processing gain PG=128 at multipath L=2 and Average BER=1.0
-5/. And also, the results produced good performance in case of linear monotonic reduction of multipath fading channel gain than that of constant channel gain variation, because multipath fading channel gain which is arrived later is small.
Design of Broadband PIFA for PCS and IMT-2000

In this thesis, a new broadband PIFA(Planar Inverted-F Antenna) for PCS and IMP-2000 applications is designed. The dual-L antenna structure is adopted in order to improve the characteristics of PIFA which usually has a narrow band. The height of the antenna is fixed 6 mm considering terminal's thickness and the structure is deformed into the folded radiation patches to minimize the size of the antenna. The bandwidth of a realized antenna is 1.66∼2.35 ㎓(34.5 %) fur return loss below -10 ㏈ which contain the required bandwidth of PCS and IMT-2000. And Monopole antenna with λ/4 length is designed and compared with dual-L with folded patch in SAR. 1 g and 10 g averaged peak SAR of PIFA are about 25.7 %, 30.3 % lower than those of monopole antenna respectively.
The Novel Control Circuit Design and Implementation for an AIS Power Amplifier Module

AIS(Automatic Identification System), was suggested for the navigational data communication between ships and between ships and shore stations for the better safety of navigation, and it requires two different the transmitting output power level depending on its operating mode. According to ITU's recommendation, these levels should reach within 20 % of its final value in 1 ms. In this paper, an adequate feedback control circuit for power amplifier module is designed and implemented.
Design and Fabrication of 40 ㎓ MMIC Double Balanced Star Mixer using Novel Balun

In this paper, MMIC double balanced star mixer for 40 ㎓ was implemented on GaAs substrate with backside vias. In the design of the MMIC mixer, the design of balun and diode was required. A novel balun structure using microstrip to CPS was presented. The 40 ㎓ balun was designed based on the design experience of the scale-down balun by 2 ㎓. The balun may be suitable for fabrication in MMIC process with backside via and can easily be applied for DBM(Double Balanced Mixer). A Schottky diode was designed and implemented using p-HEMT process considering the compatability with other high frequency MMIC's fabricated on p-HEMT base process. Finally, the double balanced star mixer was fabricated using the balun and the p=HEMP Schottky diode. The measured performance of mixer shows 30 ㏈ conversion loss at 18 ㏈m LO power. This insufficient performance is caused by the unwanted diode at AlGaAs junction in vertical structure of p-HEMT. If the p-HEMT's gate is recessed to AlGaAs layer, and so the diode is eliminated, the mixer's performances will be improved.
Performance Analysis of the Satellite Communication System Including the Grop Delay Characteristics

This paper addresses the effect of group delay in satellite communication system. Phase of signal is distorted by the non-constant group delay. Group delay can be modeled as linear, parabolic and cubic type according to the polynomial characteristic. We investigate BER performance of satellite communication system with each 3 kinds of group delay. As signal bandwidth becomes wider, group delay makes more influence on the signal. BNR performance of satellite communication system is found when data rates are 1Mbps, 4Mbps and 8Mbps. Convolution coding with the code rate of 1/2 or 7/8 is used. At BER =10
-5/, system with group delay needs more SNR of minimum 0.3㏈ to maximum 4.4㏈ than system without group delay. The worst case of BER performance happens in the linear group delay, 7/8 punctured convolution coding and 8 Mbps. The required SNR is increased by 4.4㏈ at this worst case.
Si-MEMS package Having a Lossy Sub-mount for CPW MMICs

A Si(Silicon) MEMS(Micro Electro Mechanical System) package using a doped lossy Si carrier for CPW(Coplanar Waveguide) MMICs(Microwave and Millimeter-wave Integrated Circuits) is proposed in order to reduce parasitic problems of leakage, coupling and resonance. The proposed chip-carrier scheme is verified by fabricating and measuring a GaAs CPW on the two types of carriers(conductor-back metal, doped lossy Si) in the frequency from 0.5 to 40 ㎓. The proposed MEMS package using the lightly doped lossy(15 Ω
cm) Si chip-carrier and the HRS(High Resistivity Silicon, 15 ㏀
cm) shows the optimized loss and parasitic problems-free since the doped lossy Si-carrier effectively absorbs and suppresses the resonant leakage. The Si MEMS package for CPW MMICs has an insertion loss of only - 2.0 ㏈ and a power loss of - 7.5 ㏈ at 40 ㎓.
A Dual-Mode Canonical Filter with Dual-Passband for Satellite Transponder

Due to the complex arrangement of frequency plans and spatial overages in modern satellite communications, channels that are non-contiguous in frequency may be amplified by a single power amplifier and transmitted to the ground through one beam. In this paper, a dual-mode canonical filter with dual-passband is presented. The filter adopts dual-mode technique for mass and volume reduction. Canonical structure is adopted for maximum transmission zero realization. To validate the design technique, a 6-pole dual-mode canonical dual-passband filter for Ka-band(30/20 ㎓) satellite transponder is realized. The measured frequency response of the filter shows good agreement with the computed one.
A Study on the Out-of-Band Rejection Improvement of TFBAR Ladder Filter using On-Wafer Inductors

In this paper, two types of thin nim bulk acoustic resonator(TFBAR) ladder filters are desisted and fabricated to analyze the effects of on-wafer inductor integration. To suppress the overmode phenomenon a 1
thick air-gap is fabricated under the TFBAR and aluminum nitride is used for piezoelectric material, while platinum is employed for the top and bottom electrodes. The Tx filter in a duplexer, which usually has a steeper skirt characteristics o the right side of the passband, is designed with four serial and two shunt resonators, namely, a 4/2 stage. Similarly, the Rx filter is devised with a 3/4 stage to create a mirrored image of the Tx filter passband characteristics. Fabricated on-wafer spiral inductors with underpass reveals the Q factor of 5～9 at 2 ㎓. Inductor integrated filters have approximately 10 to 12 ㏈ out-of-band rejection improvement, when compared to the original filters.
Development and Validation of Reverberation Chamber Type Whole Body Exposure System fer Mobile Phone Frequency

Due to the rapid growth of mobile communication services, many studies have been performed on the biological effects of EMF(Electromagnetic field) exposure. However, it is not easy to create the field uniformity in radio frequency. To overcome this difficulty, the electric field and SAR(Specific Absorption Rate) distribution is developed to measure the whole body exposure system. In this paper, we developed the whole body exposure system for in-vivo study utilizing reverberation chamber which has a high possibility of practical use by substituting previous the EMC chamber. The field uniformity in the test area of the designed reverberation chamber was satisfied by the simulation and measurement data. In animal study of the whole body exposure for a mouse, the results of FDTD simulation were compared with those of measurement to confirm SAR under the electromagnetic exposure. We analyze the electric field distribution in the interior of the reverberation chamber and treat these results in statistical manner. In the CDMA frequency band(PCS ＆ Cellular band), an average value of the whole body SAR and local peak value for a experimental mouse were presented for various input power.
Compact and Low Insertion Loss Dual-Mode Resonator and Its Applications for Switchable Filters

In this paper, a compact dual-mode filter structure without coupling gaps is proposed. The novel design is achieved by embedding a pair of equal crossed slots and spur-lines. Without coupling gaps between feed lines and patch resonator, the new filter can provide low insertion loss. It is found that this design has wide coupling range for dual-mode operation. It means that these characteristics of the proposed filter can reduce uncertainty in fabrication. By using two PIN diodes mounted inside a pair of spur-lines, the proposed structure works as a switchable filter. Also, it has a size reduction of about 34.7 %, compared with conventional dual-mode filters.
A Study on Link Analysis of Telemetry Rocket-borne Antenna

It is required to design the RF link with sufficiently stable signal margin to minimize bit errors and improve the quality of received data in the telemetry system modulated digitally like PCM/FM. In case of the vehicle flying at a high speed, the variation of the gain pattern between transmitting and receiving antenna and the fee space loss due to flight distance cause the fluctuation of link. In this paper, KSR(Korea Sounding Rocket)- III, the first domestic liquid rocket which was successfully launched in Nov. 2002 is introduced. The SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) variation of the telemetry signal which was measured at S-band ground station, the one which was simulated considering the flight trajectory, and the attitude variation such as roll, pitch and yaw are compared, analyzed, and agree very well. In addition, two virtual flying situations are simulated and evaluated-only one antenna is equipped in one case, and rocket is roll-free in the other.
Analysis of Nonlinear Characteristics in the Frequency Hopping Multiple Access(FHMA) Communication System

FHMA(frequency hopping multiple access) communication system has good performance for the LPI and AJ(low probability of intercept and anti-jamming) application. However, high PAPR(peak to average power ratio) happens in the base-station or the repeater system because of a large number of users. In general, predistorter is used to complete the HPA(high power amplifier) nonlinear characteristics. This paper analyzes BER performance when magnitude of IBO(input back oft) and the number of user are considered as the system parameters. In case of the SSPA(solid state power amplifier), the predistorter does not always work as a complete nonlinear compensator. We find that there is a minimum value of IBO for the predistorter to compensate for the nonlinear SSP A, which is changed as the number of user. If IBO is lower than 6 ㏈ at the user number of 16 and p=1, the system with predistorter is poorer than the one without predistorter. Only when the IBO is over 6 ㏈, predistorter does work as a nonlinear compensator. We call it as cross-over IBO value. TWTA improves the more compensation performance than SSPA because characteristic AM/AM of TWTA has more nonlinear than SSPA. At the BER=10
-3/, there are SNR power gains of about 2.5 ㏈ and 3 ㏈ due to the predistorter when the numbers of users are 16 and 32, respectively.
