The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 327~334
In this paper, a triplexer for Advanced Mobile Phone Service(AMPS), United States-Personal Communication Services(US-PCS), and Global Positioning System(CPS) is designed using L and C lumped elements. The triplexer shows the insertion loss of 0.6 ㏈, 1.1 ㏈, and 1.6 ㏈ for AMPS, US-PCS, and GPS bands, respectively. Also, it shows the attenuation characteristic of less than 18 ㏈, and the VSWR of less than 2.0 through the all pass-band.
Development of EQM(Engineering Qualified Model) Local Oscillator far Ka-band Satellite Transponder
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 335~344
A low phase noise EQM(Engineering Qualified Model) LO(Local Oscillator) has been developed for Ka-band satellite transponder. A VCDRO(Voltage Controlled Dielectric Resonator Oscillator) is also designed using a high impedance inverter coupled with dielectric resonator to improve the phase noise performances out of the loop bandwidth. The mechanical analysis fur housing and the thermal analysis fur circuit board are achieved. This EQM LO is applied to Ka-band satellite transponder of EQM level after environmental experiments for space application. The LO has the harmonic suppression characteristics above 52 ㏈c and requires low power consumption under 1.3 watts. The phase noise characteristics are exhibited as -101.33 ㏈c/㎐ at 10 ㎑ offset frequency and -114.33 ㏈c/㎐ at 100 ㎑ offset frequency, with the output power of 14.0 ㏈m
0.17 ㏈ over the temperature range of -15∼＋65
Full-Wave Calculation of the Complex Input Impedance of Microstrip Line Used for Magnetostatic Surface Wave Transducers
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 345~352
The radiation impedance of a magnetostatic surface wave excited in a microstrip line haying ferrite film and its dependence on the width of the microstrip line and the height of the ferrite film are calculated by the full-wave moment analysis. The radiation resistance calculated by the full-wave analysis closely agrees with the measured radiation resistance, while that by the magnetostatic approximation greatly differs from the measured result in the higher-frequency region.
Slotted Waveguide Array Antenna using Dumbbell Patch for Millimeter-Wave
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 353~359
In this paper, the single-layer slotted waveguide array antenna is designed, which consists of two par the slot plate and the structure of waveguide. The key difficulty in mass production is the realization of perfect electrical contact between the two parts. Therefore the single-layer slotted waveguide array antenna is presented with a dumbbell patch and a choke. The choke can prevent from the leakage between the slot plate and waveguide, while the choke in the adjacent waveguide incurs space dissipation. To reduce the spacing of antennas about a dumbbell patch is utilized. the 16
16 array antenna gain of 27.2 ㏈ with 45 % aperture efficiency is obtained.
Implementation and Analysis of Digital Signal Processing System for Intruder Detection using the Variations of the Optical Speckle Patterns
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 360~367
In this paper, we have implemented the digital signal processing system for intruder detection using speckle pattern variation in multi-me optical fiber with hypersensitive and high fidelity. The performance of the implemented system was evaluated by experiments. In order to improve the system performances we applied the adaptive digital filter. In experimental results we could see 96 % intruder detection and 90 % man/car discrimination probability.
CPW Directional Couplers with Enhanced Directivity by Using Expanded Slot Width as Compensation Structures
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 368~378
In this paper, we proposed the compensation structures for the enhanced directivity of CPW(Coplanar waveguide) directional couplers with finite-extent backed conductor. The proposed compensation structures are. realized by expanding the slot width between signal line and ground plane in center region of couplers. The CPW couplers with expanded slot have the same phase velocity for even and odd mode because of added inductance and changed capacitance appropriately, so the enhanced directivity is accomplished. The designed CPW directional couplers have good directivity and matching characteristic at center frequency in simulation and measurement.
A New SLM Method using Dummy Sequence Insertion far the PAPR Reduction of the OFDM Communication System
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 379~386
OFDM(orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) communications system is very attractive for the high data rate transmissionin the frequency selective fading channel. Since OFDM has high PAPR(peak-to-average power ratio), OFDM signal may be distorted by the nonlinear HPA(high power amplifier). In this paper, we propose an improved dummy sequence scheme for reducing the PAPR in OFDM communication system. This method inserts each different dummy sequence at the predefined sub-carriers fur PAPR reduction. After IFFT, the OFDM data signal with the lowest PAPR is selected to transmit. The complementary sequence is used as dummy sequence. So, it can cut down the computation time and quantity because it dose not require the peak value optimization for finding the phase rotation factor and the transmission of the side information about the rotation factor unlike the PTS method.
Cell Coverage Based on Calculation of the Voice-Data Erlang Capacity in a WCDMA Reverse Link with Multi-rate Traffic
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 387~396
A scheme to evaluate the number of users and cell coverage of a WCDMA supporting multi-rate traffic is newly presented through calculation of the realizable Erlang capacity from a derived blocking probability and the path loss from the COST231 Walfisch-Ikegami(W) model. We evaluate the voice-data Erlang capacities at various data rates of 15 kbps to 960 kbps and it is shown that they have a linear relationship to each other. When the E
o/ is low from 4 ㏈ to 3 ㏈ in case of voice capacity of 50 Erlang at 8 kbps, the result shows the increase for the data capacity of 10 Erlang and the enlargement of 100 m for the cell coverage at low rate of 15 kbps, and the increase of 0.11 Erlang and the enlargement of 40 m at high rate of 960 kbps. The increase of the blocking probability results in the increase of the Erlang capacity, but not an effect on the cell coverage, and the increase of active users in a cell results in the decrease of the coverage.
Radiation Pattern and Radio Sensitivity of PCS Band Mobile Phones with Internal Antenna and External Antenna
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 397~405
In this paper, performance analysis of mobile phone with internal antenna for PCS band was carried out. The radiation patterns for antenna and mobile phone with internal antenna were simulated by using 3D simulation program, HFSS and SEMCAD. Radiation pattern variation was observed according to installation of LED circuit and ground pattern and by using simulation radiation pattern was improved. And radiation patterns of mobile phones with internal and external antennas were measured by using for field measurement system and chamber. Measured radiation pattern for mobile phone with internal antenna shows good agreement with simulation result. And the radio sensitivities of mobile phones with internal and external antennas were measured by using Agilent E5515C and chamber and compared. The measured radio sensitivity of mobile phone with internal antenna shows proper performances comparable to other model with external antenna. Measured result shows that the difference on averaged co-polar radio sensitivity is 0.12 ㏈.
EM Wave Absorption Properties on Particle Size and Permeability of ferrite and Preparation Temperature in Absorbers for Mobile Phones
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 406~413
In this study, we investigated the reflection coefficient of absorbers fur mobile phone on average Particle size and preparation temperature of specimens. We used recycled MnZn ferrite with initial permeability of 2,500 and 10,000 as starting materials. Absorption ability increased at 1.8 ㎓ which is frequency fur mobile phones with increasing average particle size. We developed a sheet type electromagnetic wave absorber with the thickness of 1 mm which showed reflection coefficient of -3.8 ㏈ at 1.8 ㎓.
Side Information Transmission using Reference Symbol in PTS Scheme
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 414~420
Partial transmit sequence(PTS) scheme has been widely studied to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) of Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing(OFDM) signal since it is flexible ad any spectral regrowth is not made. A necessity of the PTS scheme is to transmit the side information about the phase rotation factors for correct OFDM symbol recovery. In this paper, a new side information embedded PTS scheme using the reference symbols is proposed fur the PAPR reduction and the BER(bit error rate) performance is analyzed when the erroneous side information is received. In this proposed method, the information about the rotation factors is expressed by the phase of reference symbols. The proposed method maintains the same PAPR reduction performance as the conventional PTS scheme and OFDM symbols are correctly recovered by the side information to meet the required BER level, which is verified via the computer simulation. Also, it is shown that the proposed method can be easily realized and can be used for all kinds of digital modulation formats in the OFDM communication system.

The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 421~427
A low cost solution employing harmonic oscillation to the frequency synthesizer at 5.8 ㎓ is proposed. The proposed frequency synthesizer is composed of 2.9 ㎓ PLL chip, 2.9 ㎓ oscillator, and 5.8 ㎓ buffer amplifier The measured data shows a frequency Outing range of 290 ㎒, ranging from 5.65 to 5.94 ㎓ about 0.5 ㏈m of output power, and a phase noise of -107.67 ㏈c/㎐ at the 100 ㎑ offset frequency. All spurious signals including fundamental oscillation power(2.9 ㎓) are suppressed at least 15 ㏈c than the desired second harmonic signal.
Scattering Characteristic from Building Walls with Periodic and Random Surface
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 15, issue 4, 2004, Pages 428~435
With the rapid and wide-spread use of cellular telephones much attention has been focussed on propagation in the urban area crowed with buildings and houses. It is often surrounded by hills, forests, and mountains. The importance of surface scattering intereference between transmitters and receivers on the rough surfaces has been interested and investigated. Therefore, a prediction method is necessary to estimate the influence of rough surfaces on microwave radio propagation. Moreover, most of the mobile communications are performed based on the digital communication system rather than the analog one. In this case, we must pay more careful attention to the signal delay caused by the phase delay due to the multi-path propagation. In this paper we have analyzed numerically scattering of electromagnetic waves from building walls by using FVTD(Finite Volume Time Domain) method. We consider three different types of rough surfaces such as periodic, random, and composite structures. We calculate the bistatic normalized radar cross section (NRCS) for horizontal and vertical polarization, and we take account of the conventional optical reflection which corresponds to the n-th Bragg reflection for periodic structures. In addition, we investigated what conditions are needed in order to be able to ignore the higher order Bragg reflection for the periodic structures.
