Design of 3-Fingers Type Internal Antenna for GPS/PCS Handsets

This paper proposes a new type of a dual-band internal antenna for GPS/PCS handsets. The antenna has three monopoles in different lengths, and this structure is referred as a 3-fingers type antenna in this paper. The antenna with low-profile structure is designed to use internal space of handset maximally. The fabrication and the measurement are accomplished by attaching the 3-finger type antenna to the inside of a commercial handset. We obtain gain of 1.97 dBi
0.66 dBi in the GPS band, and -0.92 dBi
1.02 dBi in the PCS band and almost omni-directional patterns at all bands.
Design of a Antenna with Enhanced Isolation for US-PCS Indoor Repeater

This paper presents an antenna for US-PCS band indoor repeaters with enhancement of isolation. In common repeaters require an enough isolation to reduce the interferences between transmitted and received signals. Thus, it is investigated to improve front-to-back ratio of IBD(Integrated Balun Dipole) antenna which has a good linear polarization with a cavity or multi-cavity by using polarization diversity and aperture matching method. From the simulated and measured results, the antenna realized by using polarization diversity and aperture matching method has a VSWR below 1.5, gain over 8 dBi and enhanced isolation of 15
24 dB in US-PCS band.
A Study on the Synthesis of a Self-Equalized Dual-Passband Filter

This paper describes a synthesis method for a self-equalized dual-passband filter. Compared to conventional dual-passband filter, a self-equalized dual-passband filter can reduce BER(bit error rate) in digital data communications and does not need an external equalizer for group-delay equalization. To validate the synthesis technique, a 10-pole dual-mode dual-passband filter which has two self-equalized 5-pole elliptic response passband is synthesized.
Open-Ended Coaxial Probe with Protruding Inner Conductor

Open-ended coaxial probe is used to measure complex permittivities of materials in a wide bandwidth. Complex permittivity measured by a conventional coaxial probe suffers from severe fluctuation due to instrumental uncertainty when the difference between reflection coeffcients of reference and measuring materials is small. In this paper, open-ended coaxial probe with protruding inner conductor is suggested to increase the difference between reflection coefficients of reference and measuring materials. Its validity is assured by FDTD simulation and actual measurement.
Stability and Accuracy of the Conversion Model of Open-Ended Coaxial Probe

Complex permittivities of material in a wide bandwidth are measured by using an open-ended coaxial probe. To obtain a confident complex permittivity profile, the accuracy of measured reflection coefficients and the stability of the conversion model should be guaranteed in advance. In this paper, the sensitivity of our conversion model is analyzed by employing two instruments with different uncertainties. And various factors effected on the accuracy of measured reflection coefficients are investigated in experiment.
Design of Small Antennas with Inductively Coupled Feed Using a Pareto Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, we explore the inductively coupled concept and propose a class of electrically small planar antennas. The antennas are optimized using NEC in conjunction with a Pareto GA. These antennas show good efficiency and bandwidth performance without any additional matching network. Several optimized designs are fabricated and measured. We explain the operating principle of these antennas using a simple lumped element circuit model. The proposed antennas are translated as printed lines on Duroid for RFID tag antennas.
Design of Ku-Band Phase Locked Harmonic Oscillator

In this paper, the phase locked harmonic oscillator(PLHO) using the analog PLL(Phase Locked Loop) is designed and implemented for a wireless LAN system. The harmonic oscillator is consisted of a ring resonator, a varactor diode and a PLL circuit. Because the fundamental fiequency of 8.5 GHz is used as the feedback signal for the PLL and the 2nd harmonic of 17.0 GHz is used as the output, a analog frequency divider for the phase comparison in the PLL system can be omitted. For the simple PLL circuit, the SPD(Sampling Phase Detector) as a phase comparator is used. The output power of the phase locked harmonic oscillator is 2.23 dBm at 17 GHz. The fundamental and 3rd harmonic suppressions are -31.5 dBc and -29.0 dBc, respectively. The measured phase noise characteristics are -87.6 dBc/Hz and -95.4 dBc/Hz at the of offset frequency of 1 kHz and 10 kHz from the carrier, respectively.
Power-Line EMI Filter for Broad-Band

We proposed the Power-line EMI filter for vehicle-shelter which have attenuation performance of 100 dB from 10kHz to 1 GHz. The inductor and capacitor for EMI filter design was charactenzed using circuit simulator and then, we experimentally verified 100 dB attenuation for the conducted emission noise through power line. This results will be used for the application systems of protection weapons against EMI attacks as well as vehicle-shelter.
Design of the Broadband PIFA with Multi-Band for SAR Reduction

This paper proposed a novel broadband PIFA(Planar Inverted-F Antenna) for IMT-2000/WLAN/DMB terminal. Two branch lines for meander line were utilized in order to improve the characteristics of PIFA which usually has a narrow band. The shorting strip between the ground plane and meander-type radiation elements were used in order to minimize the size of the antenna. The -10 dB return loss bandwidth of a realized antenna was
(1.84~2.71 GHz), which contains the broadband bandwidth with triple band. And the simulated and measured values of 1 g and 10 g averaged peak SAR on human head caused by the triple band PIFA mounted on folder-type handsets were analyzed and discussed. As a result, the measured 1 g and 10 g averaged peak SARs of PIFA were similar with the simulated values and were lower than the 1.6 W/kg and 2 W/kg of 1 g and 10 g averaged peak SAR limits.
Equivalent Circuit Design of 2.4 GHz Band LTCC Bandpass Filters Using Multilayer Inter-Digital Resonators

LTCC filters have been widely used to wireless terminals. They generally adopt the multilayer structure. Some of multilayer LTCC filters are made of symmetrical parallel-coupled lines and anti-symmetrical parallel-coupled lines to reduce the length of resonators. The equivalent circuit of parallel-coupled lines was analyzed and applied to bandpass filters using multilayer parallel-coupled line resonators. The three-pole bandpass filter with the center frequency of 2.45 GHz is designed by using the proposed equivalent circuit and the measured results have good agreement with the design results.
A Characteristics of Dual-Band PIFA for Mobile Phones Using H-Types Slits in the Radiators

In this papers, we study the characteristics of dual band PIFA(Planar Inverted F antenna) for handy phones using H-type silt in the antenna radiators. Slit types on the antenna radiator vary resonance mechanism of the antenna and affect reactance component of impedance for the antenna. Therefore the antennas resonate at the dual band(cellular -band, Korea-PCS band), the bandwidth, input impedance and radiation patterns of the proposed antenna is affected by the silt length on the radiators. In order to demonstrate the validity of the proposed theory, it is implementation the antenna of the 4 types. From results for the experiment of the implementation antenna, -5 dB bandwidth of return loss is content with the allocated bandwidth of Cellular and Korea-PCS system the gains of the antenna is about -8
- 1 dB, the radiation patterns for x-polarized or y-polarized are omnidirectional pattern. From above the results of this papers, it is conclude mobile phones antenna for handy phones using this papers results.
Experimental Design of the Gunn Diode Mount for W-Band Waveguide Voltage Controlled Oscillator

In this paper, the Gunn diode mount is experimentally designed for use in a W-band waveguide voltage controlled oscillator(VCO). The role of the Gunn diode mount is to match the low impedance of the Gunn diode to the high impedance of waveguide. Computer simulations of VCO characteristics such as center frequency, frequency tuning range, and output power are carried out for various values of disc diameter, disc height, post diameter, and utilized in the experimental optimization of the Gunn diode mount. The designed VCO shows excellent characteristics; 93.9 GHz center fiequency, 600 MHz frequency tuning range with
linearity, 16 dBm output power.
Development of Fully Integrated Broadband MMIC Chip Set Employing CSP(Chip Size Package) for K/Ka Band Applications

In this work, we developed fully integrated broadband MMIC chip set employing CSP(Chip Size Package) for K/Ka band applications. By utilizing an ACF for the RF-CSP, the fabrication process for the packaged amplifier MMIC could be simplified and made cost effective.
capacitors were employed to integrate the DC biasing components on the MMIC, and LC parallel circuits were employed for DC feed and ESD protection. A pre-matching technique and RC parallel circuit were used to achieve a broadband matching and good stability fer the amplifier MMIC in K/Ka band. The amplifier CSP MMIC exhibited good RF performance over a wide frequency range in K/Ka band. This work is the first report of a fully integrated CSP amplifier MMIC successfully operating in the K/Ka band.
