In this paper, a microstripline-type linear amplitude equalizer is implemented to achieve the linearity of the slope of the amplitude over
GHz with resistors inserted between their immediate pairs of a TX-line and a stub. The values of resistors and stubs are explored to have the optimal linear slope and return loss performance. Experiments reveal the slope of around 9 dB variation and return loss of less than 10 dB desired over
GHz and validate the design methodology.

In this paper, a new marchand balun using broadside-coupled coplanar waveguide(CPW) on flexible printed circuit (FPC) is proposed. The proposed balun is designed based on the coupled line theory. The fabricated balun shows compact size and improved performance compared to the conventional microstrip line marchand balun. Measured amplitude and phase imbalance between the two balanced output ports are within 0.2 dB and
respectively in a wide frequency range(
GHz). The proposed balun is expected to be used between various antennas and RF front-ends as a functional interconnection.
Suppression of Harmonic Passband of Bandpass Filters(BPFs) Using Parallel-Coupled Mushroom Structure

Harmonic band of bandpass filter(BPF) is suppressed using coupled mushroom structure. Between double positive (DPS) transmission line such as microstrip and double negative(DNG) transmission line such as one dimensional mushroom structure, strong coupling broadly arises in the cross range of dispersion curves of isolated microstrip and mushroom structure because of complex propagation constant in the cross range. Strong coupling inhibits wave propagation, so that this kind of structure can be utilized as bandstop filter(BSF). This BSF utilizes coupled transmission line instead of coupled resonator, resulting in broad bandwidth(>30 %), shan-rejection, and high rejection level. The strong coupling between DPS and DNG transmissionline makes it possible shorten coupling length, resulting in compact size. In this paper, parallel coupled BSF having center frequency of 4 GHz and 3 dB fractional bandwidth of 40 % is designed and utilized to suppressed spurious mode of two bandpass filters.
Bandwidth Enhanced Miniaturization Method of Parallel Coupled-Line Filter

This paper proposes a new miniaturization method for a parallel coupled line filter with enhanced bandwidth characteristics. A previous method incorporated several advantages, such as size reduction through the use of only a small number of capacitors, in addition to grounding, suppression of harmonic characteristics, and improved skirt characteristics for the parallel coupled line filter, which is conventional in the field of RE filters due to its design and fabrication simplicity. However, the previous method also has disadvantages related to the bandwidth shrinkage of the miniaturized filters. In this paper, the amount of bandwidth shrinkage is analyzed in terms of the relationship between the loaded Q(quality factor) and the group delay of a resonator. Moreover, the reduction in the bandwidth is solved by a design with new design equations. To show the validity of the proposed method, a hairpin filter with a center frequency of 5.2 GHz and an fractional bandwidth(FBW) of 10% was scaled down to half its original dimension by the proposed method with the enhanced bandwidth characteristics. The measured result shows a high level of agreement with theoretical results.
Effects of the Case Currents of Mobile Phone on the Antenna Characteristics

We present two effects of the case currents of a mobile phone on changing the radiation pattern of a PIFA and on enhancing the bandwidth of the monopole antenna. In order to change the radiation pattern, a modification of the ground plane is suggested to suppress the back radiation. The resulting gain is higher than that of a conventional PIFA by 0.5 dB. For enhancing the bandwidth, two parasitic metallic lines are added in the direction orthogonal to the monopole to induce double resonances. The impedance bandwidth of the proposed structure is 341 MHz, which is nearly twice of that of the conventional monopole.
Microstrip Fed Meander Slot Antenna with Open-End for the RF Remote Controller

A meander slot antenna with open-end fed by a microstrip line which can be used at 400 MHz ISM band is newly proposed. The main difference between the proposed slot antenna and the previous slot antenna is the introduction of the open-end to miniaturize the previous meander slot antenna in the space restricted within narrow limit. In order to check the validity of the proposed antenna, the resonant frequency and radiation pattern of the proposed antenna have been simulated and examined. Good agreements between simulated results and measured results have been observed.
A Compact Two-Wire Helical Antenna with an Open Stub for a T-DMB Antenna of Mobile Devices

We have presented a compact two-wire helical antenna adopted an open stub in opposite to a feeding point, which is for a T-DMB antenna of mobile devices. By adjusting the length of the open stub or pasting a dielectric material on the open stub, the input impedance around 200 MHz, bands of the T-DMB, can be easily control, even though the total height of the antenna is less than 8 cm(0.053
at 200 MHz). The operating mechanism of the antenna is explained by using equivalent circuits of two modes, an unbalanced mode and a balanced mode. Based on the analysis of the equivalent circuits, the effects of using the open stub are validated. Several proposed antennas have been fabricated and measured. One of the fabricated antennas has -10 dB impedance bandwidth of
MHz(8 MHz) whose value covers one channel of the T-DMB(6 MHz). The measured
of the antenna is -38.6 dB which is about 17 dB higher than that of a monopole antenna whose height is same with the proposed antenna.

In this paper, the circularly polarized

array antenna is from 8.45 to 11.84 GHz(33.9%). The measured maximum radiation gain is 11.10 dBi at 10 GHz. The measured 3 dB Axial Ratio bandwidth is from 9.42 to 10.47 GHz(10.5%).
Measurement Uncertainty for Calibration of EMI Dipole Antenna from 30 MHz to 1 GHz

Measurement uncertainty assessment is very important in measurement and calibration. RRL provides antenna calibration services for EMI test. Reliability of EMI test depends on accurate antenna calibration. Antenna calibration results have to be accompanied with measurement uncertainty for its better reliability. In the late of 2005, CISPR issued the CISPR/A/644/C which describes the antenna calibration and measurement uncertainty. In this paper, on the basis of CISPR/A/644/C, we provide the measurement uncertainty values for dipole antenna calibration at the Calibration Test Site(CALTS) of Icheon. The antenna calibration method is 3-antenna height-scanning-averaging method, which measures the free-space antenna factor. We also considered all uncertainty sources that can affect measurement results during calibration.
Differential LC VCO with Enhanced Tank Structure and LC Filtering Techniques in InGaP/GaAs HBT Technology

This paper presents the InGaP/GaAs HBT differential LC VCO with low phase noise performance for adaptive feedback interference cancellation system(AF-lCS). The VCO is verified with enhanced tank structure including filtering technique. The output tuning range for proposed VCO using asymmetric inductor and symmetric capacitors withlow pass filtering technique is 207 MHz. The output powers are -6.68 including balun and cable loss. High-Power Cartesian Feedback Transmitter Design for 860 MHz Band

This paper presents the design of 860 MHz band transmitter for improving power amplifier`s linearity using Cartesian feedback method. For eliminating the effects of gain, phase mis-match, and DC offset, we estimate the property variations using ADS software. The implemented Cartesian feedback transmitter exhibits IMD3 of -54 dBc at an output power of 43 dBm and this result shows that the linearity is improved for 22.4 dB, compared with the test of the power amplifier without Cartesian feedback system. Thus, we verify that the proposed Cartesian feedback transmitter can be applied to narrow-band transmitter systems.
Crosstalk Analysis of Bent Coupled Lines on a PCB

The electromagnetic coupling between transmission lines in PCB design can degrade the performance of equipment operations. The coupling phenomenon is caused by electromagnetic fields generated by the currents on the transmission lines and the risers. In this paper, an improved method of crosstalk analysis for bent coupled lines on a PCB is proposed and investigated. In the previous cascading method combined with circuit-concept approach, bent coupled lines are devided into sections and each section is represented by ABCD matrix and then they are cascaded. In the proposed method, the crosstalk of bent coupled lines is calculated by the modified circuit-concept approach, where the coupled region is not restricted to the region projected by a generator line on a receptor line but is the total length of receptor line in calculating the forcing terms. Finally, the accuracy of the proposed approach is verified by comparing the calculated results with the measured ones for several bent coupled-line examples.
A Novel Hexagonal EBG Power Plane for the Suppression of GBN in High-Speed Circuits

In this paper, a novel hexagonal-shaped electromagnetic bandgap(EBG) power plane for the suppression of the ground bounce noise(GBN) in high-speed circuits is proposed. The proposed structure consists of hexagonal-shaped unit cells and detoured bridges connecting the unit cells. The hexagonal-shaped unit cells could omni-directionally suppress the GBN in digital circuits. The fabricated power plane`s omni-directional -30 dB suppression bandwidth is from 330 MHz to 5.6 GHz. Then the proposed structure suppresses electromagnetic interference(EMI) caused by the GBN within the stopband. As a result, the proposed structure is expected to be conducive solving EMI problem in high-speed circuits.
A Power Plane Using the Hybrid-Cell EBG Structure for the Suppression of GBN/SSN

In this paper, a novel power/ground plane using the hybrid-cell electromagnetic band-gap(EBG) structure is proposed for the wide-band suppression of the ground bound noise(GBN) or simultaneous switching noise(SSN). The -30 dB stopband of the proposed structure starts from a few hundred MHz where the GBN/SSN energy is dominant. The distinctive features of this new structure are the thin spiral strip line and hybrid-cells. They realize the enhanced inductance and the shorter period of the EBG lattice. As a result, the lower cut-off frequency and bandwidth of the -30 dB stopband becomes lower and wider, respectively. In addition, the proposed structure has smaller number of resonance modes between power/ground planes and performs a low EMI behavior compared with the reference board.
A Design on High Frequency CMOS VCO for UWB Applications

In this paper, we propose the design and fabrication on high frequency CMOS VCO for DS-UWB(Direct-Sequence Ultra-WideBand) applications using 0.18
process. The complementary cross-coupled LC oscillator architecture which is composed of PMOS, NMOS symmetrically, is designed for improving the phase noise characteristic. The resistor is used instead of current source that reduce the 1/f noise of current source. The high-speed buffer is needed for measuring the output characteristic of VCO using spectrum analyzer, therefore the high-speed inverter buffer is designed with VCO. A fabricated core VCO size is
. The VCO is tunable between 7.09 and 7.52 GHz and has a phase noise lower than -107 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset over entire tuning range. The measured harmonic suppression is 32 dB. The VCO core circuit draws 2.0 mA from a 1.8 V supply.
Phase Noise Influence on SER of MQAM, DPSK, OFDM-MQAM, OFDM-DPSK

In this paper, we report phase noise effects on SER(Symbol Error Rate) of MQAM(M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), DPSK(Differential Phase Shift Keying), OFDM(Orthogonal frequency Division Multiplex)-MQAM and OFDM-DPSK. SER of each modulation method has been quantified at the various offset frequencies of the local oscillator and compared with phase noise effects with the ideal cases, which have no phase noise, through the MATLAB simulation. And the ratio of modulation bandwidths to the SERs at the various frequency offsets for the above modulation methods have been analyzed for the system requirement of minimum phase noise characteristics.
