T-DMB(Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) system, is based on the Eureka-147 standard, provides various multimedia data services. However T-DMB system needs upgrades for more various services and better services. Therefore, we proposed advanced T-DMB system using unequal error protection system and hierarchical modulation in this paper while maintaing backward compatibility. And we simulated various bit split methods and double binary turbo code of DVB-RCS standard as method of LP data stream for additional service of advanced T-DMB. As the simulation results, double binary turbo code of proposed advanced T-DMB system have each coding gain of over 2 dB compared to conventional T-DMB.
Performance Analysis of Upper Layer Coding Method Based on DVB-S2 for Mobility

Recently, it is studied actively that DVB-S2 for mobility standard(DVB-S2M) is combined with DVB-H, DVB-T and conventional DVB-S2 standard for continuous satellite broadcasting and internet service. Especially, overcoming deep fading by tunnel is main subject. For overcoming deep fading, DVB-S2M proposed cross layer system is consist of upper layer and physical layer. Thus, this paper proposed optimal upper layer coding system fixing the physical layer coding under the simulation results by coding methods, train speed, data rate, interleaver size and IP packet size.
Design and Fabrication of the Antenna for Wibro and WLAN Communications Using CPWG Structure

In this paper, we designed and fabricated the trapezoidal antenna using the CPWG structure for Wibro and WLAN communications. This antenna has broadband characteristics using the basic trapezoidal antenna, and an H-shaped parasitic patch is making an expansion of resonance bandwidth and bringing stability of impedance matching. Especially, CPWG structure is combined two kinds of the structure which of a monopole antenna and a coplanar waveguide antenna. They make up for the weak point of the CPW which is variation of impedance matching according to varying the gap or size of the feed line and the ground. The designed antenna has occurred resonances of which the band of 2.2 GHz to 4.6 GHz(70.5 %) below the return loss of -10 dB(
) obtained in measurement, and it has an omnidirectional radiation pattern of H-plane. In addition, the changes of impedance matching appear slightly caused by the effects of the ground plane and the feed line.
Individual Order Intermodulation Distortion Generator Using Series Feedback of Diode and Its Application

This paper proposes an individual order predistortion linearizer using intermodulation distortion(IMD) generator for cancellation the third and the fifth IMD of power amplifier. The IMD generator for controlling the third and the fifth IMD consist of common Emitter amplifier and Schottky diode. These signals are generated by series feedback of Schottky diode to obtain the inverse AM/AM and AM/PM characteristics of power amplifier. The individual order predistorters are consisted of individual IMD generator, power splitter and combiner. The test results show that the third and the fifth IMD can be improved by a maximum 13.5 dB and 0.9 dB in case of CW 2-tone signals. Also, the Adjacent Channel Leakage Ratio(ACLR) can be improved 2.3 dB, 2.5 dB at
MHz offset frequency for CD-MA IS-95 2FA signals.
Design and Fabrication of a Ka-Band Planar Filter to Suppress Spurious of a Mixer

In the output of a mixer, spurious appears with the desired signal, and a filter is necessary to suppress the spurious. In this paper, the planar filter for Ka-band frequency synthesizer was designed and fabricated. In this procedure, the frequency response becomes asymmetric because of discontinuities at the high frequency. Using this, we designed short-end PCLF by using a individual resonator tuning method. The fabricated 5th-order Ka-band pass filter is compared with the result of EM simulation through measurement. The performance agrees with the simulation. Finally spurious suppression was examined through the measurement of output spectrum of the mixer with the filter.
An Approach to Estimate Dielectric Constant of Low-Loss Materials Using Dielectric Slab Loaded Cylindrical Cavity Resonators

In this paper, dielectric slab loaded cylindrical cavity resonator measurement technique is presented to determine the dielectric constant of a dielectric material. The dielectric constant is measured by the resonant frequency deviation of empty and dielectric slab loaded cavity. Characteristic equations are derived by th exact field analysis. The measurement configurations are formed using HP8719A vector network analyzer and an experimental cylindrical metallic cavity with circular cross-section. The validity of the theory is confirmed by experiments and CST MWS 4.0(3D simulator). The results were in the whole satisfactory. The measured dielectric constant of teflon and bakelite are 2.03 and 4.44, respectively.
Tunable Bandstop Filter with Combined Right/Left-Handed Transmission Lines

A novel tunable bandstop filter was proposed. It is composed of a right-handed transmission line, which has lowpass characteristics, and a left-handed transmission line which has highpass characteristics. Dispersion relations for the unit cells of RHTL and LHTL were derived by the method of ABCD parameter analysis. Varactor diodes and chip inductors were used to make the unit cells of RHTL and LHTL. A tunable bandstop filter was designed and fabricated by the parallel connection of RHTL and LHTL. The measured results of the proposed tunable bandstop filter are agreed well with the simulated results.
Design and Implementation of Dual-Polarized Broadband Antenna for PCS Band and W-CDMA Band

In this paper, a dual polarized broadband antenna fed by L-shaped strip for the Korea PCS band and W-CDMA band is presented. To analyze the characteristics of the designed antenna, we used commercial simulation tool(HFSS). The designed antenna was fabricated and measured using HP8753D vector network analyzer. The measured impedance bandwidth(VSWR<1.5) is 560 MHz and the measured average gain is 6.56 dBi. The measured isolation characteristic between two ports is -14 dB(min.)
-40 dB(max.). These results are proper for the mobile communication application and repeater antenna.
Performance Analysis of WFMT Modulation System Robust to ICI and Doppler Effect

OFDM is very effective for the high speed communication system. However, OFDM has the problems of high PAPR and serious ICI, which is different from the single carrier system. Especially, ICI problem caused by phase noise, Doppler effect and frequency offset is main reason for poor performance since it breaks down the orthogonality between subcarriers in OFDM communication system. Therefore, WFMT modulation scheme is studied and the effect of the carrier frequency offset and phase noise is analyzed. WFMT modulation scheme is based on the wavelet theory and complex filter banks for synthesis and analysis of multichannel signal. WFHT modulation scheme keeps on the advantage of filter banks system and can be easily possible for the implementation of filter banks. In this paper, we compare ISI and ICI distortions of the WFMT and OFDM system due to the carrier frequency offset and phase noise. Also, we analyze the PAPR and BER performances in the HPA and ICI situation caused by the Doppler frequency shift and the frequency offset.
Design of Phase Locking Loopfilter Using Sampling Phase Detector for Ku-Band Dielectric Resonator Oscillator

In this paper, we designed a phase-looking circuit that locks the 16.8 GHz VTDRO to a 700 MHz SAW oscillator using SPD as a phase detector Direct phase locking with loop filter alone causes the problem of lock time, so VTDRO is phase leered by loop filter with the aid of time varying square wave current generator. The current generator is related to the loop filter and needs the systematic toning. In this paper, a systematic design of the current generator and loop filter is presented. The fabricated PLDRO shows a stabilized frequency of 16.8 GHz, a output power 6.3 dBm, and a phase noise of -101 dBc/Hz at the 100 kHz offset.
A Corner-Truncated Equilateral-Triangular Microstrip Antenna and Its Applications for Reconfigurable Antennas with Polarization Diversity

In this paper, a single-feed equilateral-triangular microstrip antenna with truncated corners is used for achieving diverse radiation polarization. The proposed antenna is excited by a microstrip line, which is place parallel to an oblique side of the equilateral-triangular patch. Depending on whether the three identically-sized comers of the triangular patch are cut or not, the equilateral-triangular microstrip antenna shows linear polarization(LP) or left-hand circular polarization(LHCP) or Tight-hand circular polarization(RHCP). Based on the equilateral-triangular microstrip antenna with truncated corners, a novel reconfigurable microstrip antenna with switchable polarization sense is also proposed. The proposed reconfigurable antenna has a simple structure, consisting of a corner-truncated triangular patch, a small triangular conductor, and a microstrip line. Using a biased PIN diode between the patch and the small triangular conductor, it can produce LP or RHCP according to bias voltages. From the measured results, low cross polarization level when operated in the linear state and good axial ratio in the circular state are observed.
Design of a 2~18 GHz Wideband Cavity-Backed Spiral Antenna

In this paper, design of a
GHz wideband cavity-backed spiral antenna is investigated. Firstly, an arm pattern and a backing cavity of a cavity-backed spiral antenna are designed based on the design theory of an Archimedean spiral antenna as well as by using CST`s MWS. VSWR, axial ratio, and HPBW(Half Power Beam Width) characteristics are considered in the simulation. Secondly, a Marchand coaxial balun is designed to meet the required VSWR within the frequency band of operation. Finally, the validity of these approaches is verified by comparing the simulated results with measured ones.
Comparison of Time-Domain Imaging Algorithms for Ultra-Wideband Radar with One-Dimensional Synthetic Aperture

Delay-sum back projection(DSBP) algorithm and the time reversal algorithm based on the finite-difference time-domain method are compared. The two algorithms, which operate in the time domain, can process the ultra-wideband (UWB) radar data to generate images that are close to the original location and shape of the target. For the experiment, the UWB radar consists of a network analyzer, a resistive V dipole antenna, a scanner, and a control computer. The radar aperture is synthesized by linearly scanning the antenna. A calibration procedure is applied to the measured data to remove signal distortion and clutter. The two algorithms are applied to the same data on the same platform. It is shown that the DSBP algorithm produces better images but takes longer time to produce the images than the FDTD-TR algorithm.
