A New Tunable Oscillator Using A Suspended-Stripline Resonator

In this paper, a new design method of a tunable oscillator using a suspended-stripline resonator is presented. The negative resistance of an FET mounted on microstrip line(MSL) is combined with a high Q suspended-stripline(SSL) resonator to produce a tunable oscillator with good phase noise. The new MSL-SSL transition facilitates the easy connection between the MSL-based circuits and the SSL module. The proposed oscillator is also frequency-tunable using a tuner located on the top of the SSL housing. The measured phase noise of the implemented oscillator at 3.37 GHz is -108.03 dBc@100 kHz and -135.09 dBc@1 MHz with 50 MHz of frequency tuning.
Design of a High Efficiency Resonator for Wireless Power Transfer

In this paper, an efficiency improvement method in the wireless power transfer system based on magnetic resonance is proposed. A combined helical-spiral structure is adopted for self-resonant coil and source and device coils are designed using circular loop structure. The proposed resonator utilizing combined helical-spiral structure yields 13 % efficiency improvement over that of an existing helical type resonator when the transmitting and receiving coils are separated by 120 mm. In addition, the size can be reduced by 33 % comparing to the previous resonator.
Development of Multitone Jamming Technique Using DDS Core in FPGA

Communication is very important in warfare. Dispatch riders were used in ancient warfare, but communication system is used in modern warfare, as the advancement of communication equipments. In order to weaken enemy military strength, communication jamming signal disrupts enemy communication systems. Tone jamming is one of the common communication jamming techniques. Tone jamming is that several tones are placed in the spectrum for neutralizing the enemy's radio communication receivers. In this paper, we develop multitone jamming signal controlled tone number up to 10 tones and tone interval between tones using DDS(Direct Digital Synthesizer) core and FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Arry) of Xilinx Inc. and show the jamming signal output.
Improvement of VSWR Measurement for Various Modulated Signals at 1.8 GHz Band

This paper has suggested a technique for measuring VSWR at 1.8 GHz band for various modulated signals. By using directional coupler the power of incident and reflected wave is measured, and in order to minimize the size and cost of the measuring circuit, a SPDT(Single Pole Double Throw) switch is adopted to realize the circuit with just one detector and one A/D(Analog to Digital) converter. MCU(Micro Control Unit) is used to calculate the voltage reflection coefficient and VSWR, and the measured VSWR error has improved by approximately 0.2 with applying a simple bubble sorting algorithm to reduce the measurement error, the MCU process time and load.

). Reflection pattern has different characteristic due to variation of incident angle and polarization but the EGS has about 2 dB of RCS difference due to polarization in RCS characteristic.

In this paper, a novel IQ modulator that precisely controls the magnitude and phase of input signals is proposed. The proposed IQ modulator consists of low phase deviation attenuators, a splitter, and a combiner. In order to overcome the phase deviation characteristics found in conventional attenuators, a novel phase compensation technique has been adopted and mathematically analyzed. Linear vector arrays along the center point with large magnitude output signal variations in a full
phase control are achieved on a polar plane by the proposed IQ modulator.
A Tuable Dual-Band Bandpass Filter Design Using Variable Characteristic Transmission Lines

In this paper, the application of a variable characteristic impedance transmission line that can be used to design a dual-band bandpass filter(BPF) is presented. The proposed filter offers a fixed first frequency passband and a controllable second passband. The tuning of the second passband is achieved by varying the characteristic impedance of and open shunt stub line in a stub loaded resonator(SLR) with the help of a defected ground structure(DGS) transmission line and varactor diodes. In order to validate the proposed structure, a two stage dual-band BPF with three transmission zeros was implemeted and experimentally verified based on its theoretical predictions and simulations.
Development of a Microwave Radiometer for Remote Sensing of Oil Spills on the Water Surface

In this paper, we propose a microwave radiometer for remote sensing of oil spills on the water surface. In order to achieve the development aim of the measurement accuracy within 0.2 mm for oil slicks of 0~4 mm thickness, the requirements of the microwave radiometer and the specifications of its receiver are drawn. From these requirements and specifications, the receiver with high gain, high sensitivity is designed and implemented. The receiver has the bandwidth of 58 MHz, the system gain of 47.3 dB and the sensitivity of 0.46 K at 10.65 GHz. The processes of design and implementation of the receiver are described in this paper. The effectiveness of the proposed microwave radiometer in the measurement of oil slicks is demonstrated experimentally. The results show the microwave radiometer can detect the oil slicks for 0~5 mm thickness within the accuracy of 0.13 mm successfully.
Receiving Characteristics of an Electronic Steering System according to the Change of the Coil Structure

In this paper, a new structure to improve the resolution of an inductive torque sensor is proposed. The new coupling structure and the change of number of turns for the receiving coil increase the resolution of the torque sensor. Because this torque sensor has non-contact points, it has no abrasion at the contact point, and is very durable. Also, the torque sensor has less variation due to vibration or strain, and it has a good EMC(Electromagnetic Compatibility) and thermal characteristics.
Design and Analysis of Cloaking Structure Using 2D Transmission Line

We design and analyze the cloaking circuit using 2D transmission line structure to make up for the weakness of the established cloaking circuit using only lumped inductor and capacitor elements. The 2D transmission line structure enables one to conveniently design the cloaking circuit with available element values. All the necessary analysis and synthesis(design) formulas have been derived. A cloaking circuit for a cylindrical scatterer in free space has been designed based on the provided design formulas and its effects have been investigated using the circuit simulator ADS. The effect of the cloaking medium for this specific case has been observed to be about 10.5 dB.
Antenna Design with Vertically Structured Radiator for Increasing Bandwidth and Gain of the Mobile Phone Internal Antenna

In this paper, we proposed vertically structured radiator for increasing bandwidth and gain of mobile phone internal antenna. The proposed antenna has vertically structured radiator instead of planar structured radiator to improve the antenna characteristics for GSM850/900 and DCS1800/PCS1900 bands. The antenna improve bandwidth of low band with 28 % than planar structured radiator. and also, improve bandwidth of high band with 14 %, efficiency 31.80~86.36 %, average gain -4.956~-0.617 dBi on the GSM850/900 and DCS1800/PCS1900 bands. These results are good performance among the small antenna with vertically structured radiator for increasing bandwidth and gain.
Bending Characteristic of a Flexible Antenna

In this paper, we studied characteristics of the bent antenna febricated on Flexible-PCB. Flexible-PCB consisting of a polyimide has dielectric constant 3.5, thickness 0.125 mm. Proposed antennas which operates at Bluetooth band are a rectangular loop antenna and a loop antenna with inverted-L type stub. We compared the input matching and radiation characteristics of the proposed antennas under eight kinds of bending conditions.
Highly Linear 1 W Power Amplifier MMIC for the 900 MHz Band Using InGaP/GaAs HBT

This paper presents a highly linear power amplifier MMIC, having an output power level of about 1 watt, based on InGaP/GaAs hetero-junction bipolar transistor(HBT) technology for the 900 MHz band. The active bias circuit is applied to minimize the effect of temperature variation. Ballast resistors are optimized to prevent a current collapse and a thermal runaway. The fabricated power amplifier exhibited a gain of 17.6 dB, an output P1dB of 30 dBm, and a PAE of 44.9 % at an output P1dB from the one-tone excitation. It also showed a very high OIP3 of 47.3 dBm at an average output power of 20 dBm from the two-tone excitation.
The Analysis of Dual Resonant Iris for Designing Waveguide Band-Pass Filter

This paper deals with transmission characteristics of a new dual resonant structure for designing waveguide band-pass filter. The structure which has a pass-band between two adjacent stop-bands in a single body consists of circular ridged aperture and four armed conducting patch. The dual resonant behavior of the structure can be represented by a combination of LC series and parallel resonant circuits. Also these resonant properties can be easily controlled by varying the geometry of the aperture and four armed conducting patch. Actually, the structure is fabricated on the microstrip substrate by use of etching technique so that it is formed an iris type resonator which can be easily put into the transverse plane of the waveguide. We use WR-90 standard waveguide, adapters, and VNA(vector network analyzer) to measure the resonant characteristics of the structure. It is very useful to design and to improve the cutoff skirts characteristics in the waveguide band-pass filter design area.
CRLH Rectangular Waveguide with Balanced Condition above Cut-off Frequency

In this paper, a composite right-/left-handed(CRLH) rectangular waveguide satisfying a balanced condition above the cut-off frequency is presented. The proposed structure consists of one shorted stub and two twisted H-plane irises which produce an effectively negative permeability and permittivity, respectively. The CRLH structure can independently control the series and shunt resonance frequencies of a CRLH transmission line which determine the left-handed(LH) and right-handed(RH) bands due to a minimized coupling between a shorted stub and twisted H-plane irises. Thus, the design of the CRLH waveguide satisfying a balanced condition is possible. To analyze the CRLH structure, a crossly connected equivalent circuit is derived. The simulated and measured results confirm that the proposed CRLH waveguide has a transmission property without a band gap among the LH and RH bands.
Design and Analysis of 3D Isotropic Metamaterial Bulk Structure Using Thin Wire and SRR

In this paper, we designed and analyzed a 3D isotropic bulk structure consisting of thin wires and SRR's(Split Ring Resonator) with which the permittivity and permeability can be controlled at the same time. For the 3D isotropic bulk structure, first of all, the geometry seen by three main axes must look alike. Thus, we adopted the orthogonal thin wires and symmetrical SRR's. As a result, we constructed metamaterial bulk structures of which effective relative permittivity and permiability are about -0.6 and -1.5, respectively. Its refractive index is about -0.95 in each direction(x, y and z direction). The computed Brillouin dispersion diagram also showed that the proposed structure is almost near isotropic.
