Some Basic Investigation on Wireless Power Transfer

This paper summarizes the previous research results of fundamental investigation done in SNU on the wireless power transfer. Firstly, the physical limitation of a wireless power transfer using the spherical modes is reviewed. It is found that wireless power transfer depends only on the radiation efficiency of the antennas and the distance between two antennas involved. Secondly, we review the characteristics of WPTS with different sources and compare the performance differences of WPTS according to the source type. In addition, the method for efficient WPTS is suggested when the distance between antennas is varied. Finally, by using the time domain solution of the coupled mode equation, we present an analytic formula which can be used to differentiate Inductive Coupling(IC) and Magnetic Resonance Coupling(MAC) which are often used ambiguously in wireless power transfer system.
Recent Trends in System-Level EMC Investigation and Countermeasure Technology for RF Interference Due to High-Speed Digital System Noise

This paper presents recent trends in system-level EMC investigation and countermeasure technology for radio frequency interference (RFI) influenced by noise generated in high-speed digital system. Recently, as the only digital device can perform various roles, there are a variety of EMI/EMC problems between systems. Especially, RFI is now recognized as a major problem, which occurs by EMI caused by the digital system. Therefore, in this paper, recent trends of RFI investigation from component-level to system-level are introduced and analyzed. Furthermore, in order to solve the RFI problem, recent researches are presented and investigated for the occurrences and suppression methods of common-mode noise which is one of the major noise sources in high-speed digital system. Lastly, this paper suggested future research of system-level EMC analysis and countermeasure technology for RFI problems.
An Socio-Economic Effect Analysis of Using Open Spectrum in Korea

In this paper, we analyze the telecom services and their socio-economic effect of using open spectrum, which is to access sharing spectrum. For this, we suggest a concept and a classification of open spectrum as spectrum access model and make a survey for analyzing the socio-economic effect of spectrum, 2,605 MHz which is candidated for sharing between 2.9~5.925 Hz in Korea. From survey results, we propose Mobile Telecommunications Assist Service and WiFi as the most effective services and Smart Car Service and M2M, IoT, and RFID/USN Service as the effective services to open spectrum.
Legal Reform Agenda for Open Spectrum Access

Due to the development of spectrum use technology and various services based on radio spectrum, the scarcity of spectrum has been heightened. In this circumstances both the efficiency and fairness of spectrum use need to be raised. Open spectrum access can be a useful approach for both goal. For the open spectrum access the legal institution needs to be reformed to enable it. From the starting point of spectrum use till the end of spectrum use there can be various issues of rights and obligations. So the legal institution for various legal status of spectrum use and establishment and continuous management of DB and fast and respectable dispute resolution mechanism is required.
Study on the Selection of Optimal Candidate Bands for the Spectrum Sharing

In this paper, we proposed the frequency candidates band for the spectrum sharing through researching and analyzing the current status of the policy and the economic values which is actively conducted on the United States and Europe. To this end, we investigated to the status and problems with the frequency reallocation and arrangement in respond to the current frequency demand. To solve these frequency reallocation and arrangement method problems, we introduce to the concept and current status of policy for the frequency method progress by advanced countries mainly. Also the results of the economic value analysis introduced in terms of the operators. In addition, we proposed the assessment terms and criteria for the selection of frequency candidates band through joint research and analysis results.
Management Plan on EMC for Functional Safety of the ISO26262

ISO 26262 is applied to vehicle and electrical/electronic component manufacturers for minimizing car accidents and life damage by the extended use of electronic control equipments and their malfunctions. In this standard, safety requirements are required to be applied from the early stage of development upto manufacture and disposal stages throughout the total lifecycle of the full vehicular system, and electromagnetic compatibility must be also managed as an important consideration factor. Therefore, it is nowadays very necessary to research and develop EFS(EMC for Functional Safety) to be applied in each stage of the design, manufacture, accreditation, use, maintenance stages of cars. In this paper, how EFS can be applied for the application of ISO 26262 is described. By the enforcement of this suggestions into the legal requirement or New Car Assessment Program(NCAP) test items, it is necessary that car manufacturer have to perform some procedures for ensuring car safety by themselves.
Analysis of Domestic and Foreign Frequency Demands for 700 MHz Band and Consideration for Building Public Integrated Radio Network

After DTV transition, frequency allocation to efficiently utilize 700 MHz band, which is remained as Digital Dividend, is in progress domestically and internationally. This paper investigates global frequency allocation of 700 MHz band and utilization of the band, and analyzes domestic wireless technology methods and requested frequency bandwidth by use. In addition, the paper suggests what needs to be considered in case of building public integrated radio network that focuses on disaster and safety network; the integrated radio network also includes railway network and e-Navigation.
Development of Quad-Band Printed Monopole Antenna Using Coupling Effect of Dual Rectangular Rings and L-Slots on the GND

In this paper, a quad-band antenna for DCS1800, PCS1900, WCDMA, WLAN and Mobile WiMAX application is proposed. The proposed antenna is a printed monopole structure, and consists of two rectangular ring-shaped radiating patches on the front side and two different size of L-shaped slots on the back side(ground plane). Two rectangular ring radiation patches are respectively resonant at 2 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands, and additional resonance is occurred at 5.3 GHz by the coupling effect between two ring patches. In addition, the optimized matching characteristic is obtained by controlling the gaps. Also, by adding two L-slots on the ground plane, additional resonant frequency band of 5.6 GHz is occurred. Finally the measured bandwidths of the proposed antenna below -10 dB return loss are 1,200 MHz(1.6~2.8 GHz), 800 MHz(3.2~4.0 GHz), 300 MHz(5.14~5.44 GHz), and 690 MHz(5.56~6.25 GHz). The radiation patterns have the omni-directional characteristic, and the measured antenna average gains at resonant bands are 0.86~4.07 dBi.
Real-Time PRF Selection for Search/Track in MPRF Waveform Airborne Radar

Airborne radar usually use MPRF(medium PRF) waveforms to detect and track look-down or all-directions air-to-air targets. To use MPRF waveforms, airborne radar have to operate optimal PRF schedules and select optimal PRFs able to detect look-down air-to-air targets, overcoming look-down clutter and resolving range/velocity ambiguities. In this paper, we propose a real-time search method for the optimal(and sub-optimal) PRFs able to detect and track targets in real-time change of situation for MPRF pulsed-Doppler airborne radars.
ISAR Cross-Range Scaling for a Maneuvering Target

In this paper, a novel approach estimating target`s rotation velocity(RV) is proposed for inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) cross-range scaling(CRS). Scale invariant feature transform(SIFT) is applied to two sequently generated ISAR images for extracting non-fluctuating scatterers. Considering the fact that the distance between target`s rotation center(RC) and SIFT features is same, we can set a criterion for estimating RV. Then, the criterion is optimized through the proposed method based on particle swarm optimization(PSO) combined with exhaustive search method. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can precisely estimate RV of a scenario based maneuvering target without RC information. With the use of the estimated RV, ISAR image can be correctly re-scaled along the cross-range direction.
Effective Beam Structure for Multi-Target Detection and Tracking in the Active Electrically Scanned Array Radar

This paper presents an efficient receive beam structure able to search and track the simultaneous bundle targets with the active electrically scanned array radar. One of the characteristic with the active phased array radar is to point toward wanted direction and to forming simultaneously the digital multi-beam. This paper proposes method to detect and track rapidly bundle targets coming to radar using the digital beam forming. The proposed the beam forming method in the paper is evaluated about the angle accuracy of targets via a computer simulation.
Design of Rotman Lens for Curved Array Antenna with Minimal Phase Error

We propose a design method of a Rotman lens for curved array antenna applicable to conformal array. In this paper, design equations are derived to obtain an array curve, transmission line lengths of a Rotman lens in conjunction with a curved array antenna, and the phase error of a Rotman lens based on these design equations is minimized through the beam curve optimization procedure and the refocusing procedure. Rotman lenses designed by the proposed design equations and design procedures still maintain 3 focal points, can feed a convex or concave array antenna with circular curve, parabolic curve, V-shaped curve, etc as well as a straight line array antenna, and have minimal phase error.
Analysis of the Scattering Property of Dielectric Scatterer with Impedance Boundary Condition

An numerical technique of impedance boundary condition to improve an efficiency in the process of moment method with CFIE(Combined Field Integral Equation), which is widely used to analyze the scattering property of dielectric scatterers, and results of its cross-validations are presented in this study. Application of the impedance boundary allows to represent the equivalent surface currents of dielectric scatterer depicted by both kinds of electric/magnetic surface currents(Js, Ms) to the single surface current by Js or Ms only. Accuracy of this technique is validated by the existing CFIE and theoretical values such as Mie-series solution and small perturbation scattering model. The computational difference of less than 1 dB was verified within an imaginary part of dielectric constant more than 12, as well.
