Study on Pattern Synthesis of Conformal Phased Array Antenna

This paper describes the pattern synthesis method of two kinds of conformal array antenna using the Enhanced Adaptive Genetic Algorithm (EAGA). One is the
conformal array antenna on a curved cylindrical metallic surface with quadratic function, and the other is the 18-element conformal arrary antenna on a metallic surface obtained by the rotation of a quadratic function curve around the axis. The active element pattern is utilized in the pattern synthesis. Especially for the case of the rotated-type conformal array antenna the transformed active element pattern obtained from the Euler`s angle rotation of the active element pattern of the planar concentric array is utilized, which reduces the synthesis time a lot. To verify the validity of the proposed synthesis method the MATLAB results are compared with the MWS results. Furthermore, for the case of
conformal array antenna the measured results are compared with the MATLAB synthesized results.
Analysis of Antenna Isolation Using Decoupling Structure

In this paper, isolation enhanced antenna using isolating resonator was proposed. Two loop type antennas were designed to operate at Wi-Fi band(2.4~2.5 GHz), in symmetry to the center, and are closely located to each other. In order to enhance isolation characteristics at Wi-Fi bands, isolating resonator was designed between the two loop type antennas. The proposed isolating resonator is a slot type antenna that enhances isolation with the control of the size, and by adjusting the value of capacitor(
) the resonant frequency of the isolating resonator can easily be adjusted to enhance isolation characteristic at the target frequency.
Broadband Double-Cone Antennas for Measuring Partial Discharge

This paper presents the characteristics of broadband double-cone antennas. The antenna is used to measure electromagnetic fields(2~5 GHz) radiated from a primary or a secondary electrode of a pole-transformer when partial discharge occurs inside the pole-transformer. The theoretical analysis is conducted using commercial software based on a finite difference time domain(FDTD) method. The parameters are a radius, and a height of the broadband double-cone antennas, and the number of posts on a ground plane. This paper examines influences of structural parameters of the broadband double-cone antennas on return loss. The results show that a condition for an optimum structure of broadband double-cone antennas exists. It also shows that the broadband double-cone antennas have radiation patterns similar to those of a dipole antenna. Therefore the broadband double-cone antennas are appropriate for the measurement of radiated electromagnetic fields from the pole-transformer. To verify the theoretical analysis, computed results are compared to experimental results.
Design of the Near Field Microwave Guide Type of Probe Having Enhanced High Transmission Efficiency and Smaller Beam Spot Area

In this article, we propose a near field microwave scanning probe structure in which two short conducting rods are attached to the center of the ridged(H-type) aperture, thereby reducing significantly the beam spot area while maintaining the high transmission efficiency through the output coupling H-type(ridged) aperture. Here the two short parallel conducting rods seem to play an important role of concentrating the transmitted electromagnetic energy through the H-type aperture and so reducing the beam area for high resolution. For validation of the proposed theory, the near field waveguide probe is fabricated according to the simulated results and its return loss characteristics versus frequencies are measured. The comparison between theory and experiment is seen to be in good agreements.
Analysis of Electrical Characteristics of Interdigital Capacitor with Graphenes

In this paper, the electrical characteristics of interdigital capacitor with single-layer and multi-layer graphene were compared and analyzed in the microwave region. In equivalent circuit, a capacitor coupled with graphene showed the clear difference in electrical components such as resistance, inductance, and capacitance. In particular, for the capacitor with single-layer graphene, additional inductance and resistance occurred and the electrode resistance was also increased. Meanwhile, the self-resonance frequency of capacitor was shifted toward lower frequency region and its transmitted characteristic was considerably improved at frequency ranging from 0.4 to 4 GHz. The electrical characteristics of the capacitor with multi-layer graphene were somewhat different than the bare capacitor. In conclusion, we could confirm that single-layer graphene greatly influenced the electrical characteristics and performances of interdigital capacitor compared to multi-layer graphene.
Two Noise Parameter Measurement Methods Using Spectrum Analyzer and Comparison

In this paper, we propose two noise parameter measurement methods using spectrum analyzer. First method, we measure a noise correlation matrix using the 6-port network, and we calculate noise parameters using measured a noise correlation matrix. Second method, we directly measure noise figures of the DUT for source impedance changes, and then noise parameters are extracted from the measured noise figures. In order to measure a noise figure, we present a method of measuring a noise figure of the DUT that have arbitrary source impedances using spectrum analyzer and a method of eliminating a noise effect of a impedance tuner. Finally, the noise parameters of a passive and active DUT using proposed two methods are compared. The comparison shows that the two results obtained from for the two methods give almost identical noise parameters. The noise parameters measured by 6-port network accurately predict measured noise figures of the DUT for source impedance changes, and noise parameters measured by 6-port network is verified from the comparison.

We designed and manufactured Ka-band SSPA include drive amplifier and high power amplifier MMICs by
GaN commercial process. Also, we fabricated main components micro-strip line to WR28 waveguide transition and WR28 wave guide power combiner for Ka-band SSPA. This Ka-band SSPA shows saturated output power 44.2 dBm, power added efficiency 16.6 % and power gain 39.2 dB at 29~31 GHz frequency band.
PAPR Evaluation and Analysis of Candidate Waveforms Using DFT Spreading for 5G Mobile Communications

UFMC(Universal-Filtered Multi-carrier) and FBMC(Filter Bank Multi-carrier) system are receiving attention as candidate waveforms for 5G mobile communication system. But, these systems have high PAPR(Peak to Average Power Ratio) problem because these systems use a number of subcarrier. In this paper, we propose DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) spreading based DFT-s(spreading)-UFMC system and DFT-s-FBMC system in order to overcome the PAPR drawback. In order to evaluate PAPR performance of the proposed systems, we design and simulate OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), UFMC, FBMC, DFT-s-OFDM, DFT-s-UFMC, DFT-s-FBMC system. As simulation results, each PAPR performance of DFT-s-OFDM system, DFT-s-UFMC system, and DFT-s-FBMC system rise by 2.7 dB, 2.8 dB, and 1.1 dB respectively by DFT spreading technique.
An Algorithm for De-Interleaving of Wobble and Sinusoidal PRIs for Unidentified Radar Signals

In this paper, we propose an algorithm to identify Wobble PRI and Sinusoidal PRI among Radar pulses. We applied not only the DTOA(Difference Time Of Arrival) concept of radar pulse signals incoming to antennas but also a rising and falling cub characteristic of those PRIs. After making a program by such algorithm, we input each 40 data to Wobble PRI`s and Sinusoidal PRI`s identification programs and in result, those programs fully processed the data the according to expectations. In the future, those programs can be applied to the ESM, ELINT system.

In this paper, a
frequency multiplier based on a ring oscillator and a multi-push multiplier is presented. The proposed
frequency multiplier consists of two
frequency multipliers and these multiplier is connected by injection-locking technique. Each
frequency multiplier consists of a ring oscillator with 14-phase output signal and 7-push frequency multiplier requiring 14-phase input. The proposed
frequency multiplier provides 2.78~2.83 GHz output signal with 56.7~57.7 MHz input signal. This operation frequency is defined that the output power difference between the carrier and the spur is above 10 dB. The proposed chip consumes 13.93 mW.
A Reconfigurable Multiband FMCW Radar for Multipurpose Application

Recently, there have been advancements in radar related material technology, circuit design techniques and architecture design techniques. These have led to developments in radars` performance while decreasing the costs. Many studies have been carried out to apply radars to multipurpose application. In this study, a reconfigurable S-/X- band radar structure for multipurpose application is proposed and implemented. This radar measures a
target for 10 times from 2 m to 6 m range with 0.25 m distance step. The measured results show that this radar has 26.40 cm maximum range error, 5.63 cm average range error, and 0.24 cm range error variance at S-band while it has 8.53 cm maximum range error, 2.52 cm average range error, and 0.04 cm range error variance at X-band.
