Machine-Learning-Based Link Adaptation for Energy-Efficient MIMO-OFDM Systems

Recent wireless communication trends have emphasized the importance of energy-efficient transmission. In this paper, link adaptation with machine learning mechanism for maximum energy efficiency in multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(MIMO-OFDM) wireless system is considered. For reflecting frequency-selective MIMO-OFDM channels, two-dimensional capacity(2D-CAP) feature space is proposed. In addition, machine-learning-based bit and power adaptation(ML-BPA) algorithm that performs classification-based link adaptation is presented. Simulation results show that 2D-CAP feature space can represent channel conditions accurately and bring noticeable improvement in link adaptation performance. Compared with other feature spaces, including ordered postprocessing signal-to-noise ratio(ordSNR) feature space, 2D-CAP has distinguished advantages in either efficiency performance or computational complexity.
Wideband Microstrip Conformal Patch Array Antenna with Tilted Beam

In this paper, a conformal type
microstrip patch array antenna with tilted antenna beam is presented for UWB sensor applications. Each antenna element comprises E-shaped patch with L-probe feeding to increase the bandwidth. The tilted antenna beam of 20 degree can be achieved with 42 ps microstrip delay lines at the series feeding network with T-junctions. The measured reflection coefficient is >9 dB at 3.5~4.5 GHz. The measured antenna gain and HPBW are >10 dBi and <30 degree at 3.75~4.25 GHz.
The Dual-Mode Ring-Resonator Bandpass Filter Using Artificial-Transmission-Lines

This paper presents dual-mode ring-resonator bandpass filter using LUC of artificial-transmission-lines. The conventional ring-resonator bandpass filter has limitation in miniaturization because the conventional ring-resonator is based on a one wavelength operation, and problem due to undesire harmonics. The ring-resonator bandpass filter is miniaturized and show higher order mode rejection by configuring a ring-resonator with LUC of artificial-transmission-lines. The two-stage bandpass filter is designed and fabricated with a ring-resonator and input/output interdigital coupled line. A fabricated filter shows dual-mode, rejection of whole ultra wide band, sharp skirt characteristics and has ring area reduced by 60 % compared to the conventional ring-resonator bandpass filter.
Measurement Method of Noise Correlation Matrix Using Relative Noise Ratio

In general, noise measurement results show larger random ripple than those of the network analyzer. The reason for the lager random ripple of the noise measurements is considered that the general noise measurements uses absolute measured noise powers, while the network analyzer measures using a ratio of the measured powers. In this paper, a novel measurement method of noise correlation matrix using relative noise ratios is proposed. Proposed method measures the five noise powers of DUT for the five input impedance variations and the four relative noise ratios are formed using the five measured noise powers. The four noise ratios are used to compute the noise correlation matrix and noise parameters. The resulting noise parameters for a 0.5 dB attenuator show good agreements with theoretical values calculated by S-parameters. Also, the noise parameters of an active DUT with a noise figure of less than 1 dB are measured and the measured results show a small random ripple as expected and their values are physically acceptable. In conclusion, the proposed method can be applied to the noise parameter measurements for DUT with a noise figure below 1 dB.
Implementation of Real-Time Channel Module for Applying Wireless Communication Environments

In this paper, A real-time channel module which can apply the wireless propagation channel was developed using USRP and Lab-VIEW. When the proposed channel module is used in conjunction with the implemented HW(hardware) simulators for cognitive radio and frequency interference analysis and so on, it can increase the reliability about wireless propagation environments. In addition, the proposed module overcomes the limit of existing HW simulator that data transfer rate is limitative in communication system through the design of the inner parts. Along with this, it is possible to apply channel parameters necessary to estimate the easier communication performance. Also, this has the advantage that it can be flexibly applied in implementing the communication channel with the upcoming new scenarios. The proposed module can estimate the communication performance via constellation and BER using the implemented module.
Design and Implementation of 5G mmWave LTE-TDD HD Video Streaming System for USRP RIO SDR

This paper presents the implementation and design of the 1T-1R wireless HD video streaming systems over 28 GHz mmWave frequency using 3GPP LTE-TDD standard on NI USRP RIO SDR platform. The baseband of the system uses USRP RIO that are stored in Xilinx Kintex-7 chip to implement LTE-TDD transceiver modem, the signal that are transceived from USRP RIO up or down converts to 28 GHz by using self-designed 28 GHz RF transceiver modules and it is finally communicated HD video data through self-designed
sub array antennas. It is that communication method between USRP RIO and Host PC use PCI express
to minimize delay of data to transmit and receive. The implemented system show high error vector magnitude performance above 25.85 dBc and to transceive HD video in experiment environment anywhere.
Research on Resource Allocation Method for a Hybrid WSD Based on Location Probability

portable white space device(WSD) obeying the Korean regulations of TV white space(TVWS) can cause harmful interference to a digital TV receiver residing at the same pixel around the edge of the digital TV service coverage for the case with a changed propagation environment. In order to solve this problem, we propose a method to allocate the resource of a hybrid WSD based on TVWS geo-location DB with spectrum sensing. Using the received power of digital TV signal through the spectrum sensing, a hybrid WSD can calculate the maximum permitted EIRP based on location probability. Based on the accurate allocation method proposed in this paper, it is possible to satisfy the Korean TVWS regulations and to eliminate the harmful interference to TV receivers nearby the hybrid WSD.
A Study on Scattering Center Extraction Using Full Polarimetric Data

In this paper, we introduce a method of scattering centers extraction using the polarimetric data. VIRAF software based on the PO (Physical Optics) and PTD(Physical Theory of Diffraction) were used to calculate the surface scattering and the edge or wedge scattering, respectively. In addition, by using the unitary transformation, 4-channel data based on the linear polarization basis were converted to 2-channel data based on the left/vertical-circular polarization basis, leading to data compression coherently. The scattering mechanism was analyzed in terms of the polarization states and different look angles by using the scattering center of a target extracted by the 2D RELAX algorithm.
A Millimeter-Wave Compact Antenna Test Range

We introduce the design technique and test results of a millimeter-wave compact antenna test range. Physical optics is employed for the analysis of the plane wave collimated by an electrical large parabolic reflector of the compact range in the test zone. The performance of the manufactured compact range is verified with the field probing test on the quiet zone and the measurement of high gain antenna. A millimeter-wave compact range designed in the frequency range of 75~110 GHz with a diameter of the test zone of 50 cm shows the magnitude variation of less than 0.75 dB.
Mouse Somatosensory Cortex Stimulation Using Pulse Modulated Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

In this work, a transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS) experiment on animals is performed to stimulate the brain cortex of the mouse using modulated signals. The proposed TMS system is composed of the inverter, transformer, capacitor, variable inductor, and stimulation coil to generate 1.5 mT magnetic field in the brain cortex of the mouse. The stimulation signal is modulated to square wave where the carrier frequency is swept from 85 to 91 kHz to investigate the stimulation effect. The experimental result shows that when the carrier frequency of the stimulation signal is lower than 89 kHz, the reaction of the mouse does not change while the stimulation signal which has the carrier frequency higher than 89 kHz results in decreasing the threshold of the stimulus for the pressure.

A horn antenna with corrugation structure and a PTFE(Polytetrafluoroethylene) teflon(relative permittivity
