Coupling of External Electromagnetic Fields to the Nonuniform Transmission Line Consisting of Two Angled Wires
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 2, 1996, Pages 95~104
The effects of involved parameters to the voltages induced at both ends of an angled two-wire transmission line are investigated for the incidence of an arbitrary plane wave. The minimum level of the induced voltages is found in case that both ends of the transmission line are terminated by the ma- tching loads and the azimuth angle of the incident wave is equal to the elevation angle. A graphical technique is also developed to estimate the induced voltages at the change of the wire radius or tilt angle between two wires.
Analysis of the Transversely fed EMC Microstrip Dipole Array Antenna
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 2, 1996, Pages 105~116
The design and analysis of the transversely fed EMC(electromagnetically coupled) microstrip dipole have been accomplished by using the integral equation and MOM(method of moment)in frequency domain in order to find the current distribution of the dipole. In this study, we proposed the possibilities for design and analysis of EMC micro-strip dipole array antenna by means of calculating the current distribution of each dipole directly using the FDTD(finite difference time domain) method. In this case, we applied the formulation which is the finite difference expression of the Maxwell's integral equation. From the current distribution of each dipole, we calculated the far field electric component and showed that the calculation process and running time was reduced with respect to the method which calculates the radiation field with surface electric and magnetic current density.
Performance Analysis of Diversity Received 4PSK and 8PSK Signals in m-distribution and Rician Fading Environments
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 2, 1996, Pages 117~127
In this paper, we present the bit error performances of 4PSK and 8PSK signal transmission schemes using Maximal Ratio Combining diversity reception for m-distribution and Rician fading channels. The suitability of modeling a Rician fading environment by a properly chosen m-distribution model is examined. Using the error performance of the derived equation has been evaluated and shown in figures as a function of fading index (m), Rician factor (K), diversity branches number (L) and E(
). It is found that MRC (Maximal Ratio Combining) diversity technique is very efficient for reducing the effects of fading, And then, diversity benifit much large as depth of fading becomes deeper but more decreases as many diversity branchs. Also the results show that the error performance corresponds as much as fading becomes weak and increases with the number diversty branches.
A Study on Detection of Phase Error due to the Doppler Effect with Coding Techniques in Mobile Satellite Communication Network on Interference and Fading Environments
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 2, 1996, Pages 128~138
In this paper, the Doppler phase error due to the relative velocity between a satellite and the earth station in communications using a low earth orbit mobile satellite is detected. The performance of BPSK system in the presence of Rician fading channel environment with Doppler phase error, inter- ference and noise is compared with that of the system disturbed by Doppler phase error and noise only, And adopted coding techniques are Hamming, BCH, RS and convolution codes. The expression of error rate performance of BPSK system is derived as the type of complementary error function. The main conclusion that can be drawn from this analysis is that Rician fading channel environment with Do- ppler phase error and interference, noise effect yields severe performance degradation then Doppler phase error and noise effect in satellite communication channel. The conclusion can be drawn from this analysis is that using coding technique then noncoding. And using the numerical calculation, we give a quantitative insight how much the satellite communication channel parameters degrade the system per- formance. Furthermore it is shown that an appropriate transmission power control for the performance enhancement is beneficial to the new satellite communication system planning.
A Study on the Antenna for Mobile Communication
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 2, 1996, Pages 139~146
In this paper, the total electric field antenna in the small loop and aperture plane structure to load a capacitance on transformed QMSA(Quarter-wavelength Microstrip Antenna) from MSA(Microstrip Antenna) is proposed, and the total electric field is shown that the calculated value is agreed resonably with experimental value. Itis a smalled antenna of the radiation element and ground plane with equal width. The designed and manufactured antenna can receive borth vertically and horizontally polarised waves to operating frequency of 1.5GHz; therefore this is available as a smalled antenna for wireless telephones and will be quit useful for indoor communication. Also, antenna's equivalent circuit with transmission line model is designed to find more accurate resonant frequency and is calculated return loss value. The calculated value is agreed resonably with experimental value.
A Beam Steering Method of the Rotating Scanning Phased Array Antenna
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 2, 1996, Pages 147~156
In this paper we proposed a beam steering equation for the planar slotted waveguide array antenna. The tilt angle measured from the rotating axis and the aperture distribution of the antenna were the most important factors for the beam steering. From the equation, we calculated the frequency and phase distribution of the aperture for any desired beam direction. And we developed a high speed control algorithm delivering the phase data to the phase shifters of a one-dimensional phased array antenna. To reduce complexity of the control circuit and the phase delivery time, we proposed the serial phase repeating method. Because of its simplicity, we expect it can be useful for a large 2- dimensional fully phased array antenna.
A Study on the Resistor Array Networks for the Optimum Termination of a Modified Large TEM Cell
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 2, 1996, Pages 157~166
This paper presents the optimum termination method of a TEM Cell, which utilizes hybrid distributed termination resistor array networks. Current stream on the septum, and on the terminal end of a TEM Cell is analyzed by numerical analysis. By circuit analysis, the optimum resistor array network is designed based on the result of the analysis, which assures efficient power dissipation, and current stream traveling straight and uniform. Thermovision photos were taken for comparing the conventional termination network on which each resistor is arranged at regular intervals, with the suggested optimum termination network on which each resistor is arranged for current distribution. The comparison of the results of thermovision photos shows a good agreement with those obtained by numerical analysis.
Calculation of Input Impedance of Nonuniformly Ridged Rectangular Waveguide
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 2, 1996, Pages 167~177
The cutoff frequencies of a double ridged rectangular waveguide are calculated by applying the modal analysis to its cross-section. And the characteristic impedance of its
mode is evaluated in a frequency range of 6 to 18 GHz. When both ends of a linearly tapered rectangular wa- veguide consists of single and double ridged rectangular cross-sections, the equivalent nonuniform transmission line of its
mode is solved numerically. It is shown that the input impedance at its single ridged terminal becomes nearly constant in the wide bandwidth.
Analysis of a Distributed Mixer Using Dual-gate MESFETSs
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 2, 1996, Pages 178~185
In this paper, a theoretical analysis of a wide band distributed mixer using a dual-gate GaAs MESFET's(DGFET) is introduced. Based on low noise mixer mode(LNM) region modeling of DGFET, variation of g/sub m/ and conversion gain are presented versus bias. The distributed mixer is composed of drain and gate transmission line, m-derived image impedance matching circuits at each input and output port, and DGFET's. Through computer simulation, wide-band characteristics of designed distributed mixer are confirmed. And, it is certificated that LO/RF isolation between gate 1 and gate 2 is obtained more than 15dB.
