The Fabrication of Strip Halo Antenna and the Measurement of Its Characteristics in 800 MHz Band
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 3, 1996, Pages 193~200
In this paper, Strip Halo Antenna used for the proximity sensor in 800 MHz band was fabricated by using a dielectric board with the relative dielectric constant of 6.15. Dimensions of the strip halo antenna were optimized by the theoretical simulation and many experiments. The impedance of the strip halo antenna mounted on the proximity sensor with the finite circular groud plane was measured as 16.5 + j1.1[
]. The matching characteristic of the strip halo antenna was greatly improved by attaching the matching section designed through experiments to the rear side of dielectric board. The impedance of the strip halo antenna with the matching section was measured as 43.79-j0.04[
], and the 3 dB beam width of its radiation pattern was measured about
Performance Analysis of Symbol Timing Recovery for 16QAM System in Rayleigh Fading
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 3, 1996, Pages 201~210
In this paper, we analyzed performance of a symbol timing recovery scheme for 16QAM Radio system. As a symbol timing recovery scheme, both maximum amplitude method(MAM) and wave difference method(WDM) are analyzed employing a pulse shaping filter, such as raised cosine filter(RCF) and nonlinear filter(NLF). Simulation result shows that the jitter performance of MAM or WDM using NLF is better than that using square root RCF. In order to estimate and compensate for the Rayleigh fading PSAM(Pilot Symbol Assisted Modulation) and space diversity are also employed. Consequently, BER performance of about
is obtained for
= 20 dB.
Characteristics of 1.9 GHz On-Glass Antenna for Automobil Telephone
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 3, 1996, Pages 211~218
Theorectical and experimental studies of On-Glass antenna in the 1.9GHz bandare performed. In this paper, the structure of designed On-Glass antenna consists of a 5/8-wavelength upper segment and quarter-wavelength lower segment separated by phasing coil. On-Glass antenna may be resonated by the use of suitably spaced phasing coil in series with the antenna wire. This tuning structure leads to an improvement in antenna efficiency. And then, this can be very useful for installation where limited space like automobil is available. The analytical method is based on collocation method with pulse function. The results obtained from numerical method are presented and compared with an experimental evaluation. From this, the VSWR, gain, radiation pattern, and bandwidth of the On-Glass antenna are analyzed.
The Path Loss Prediction in Korean Terrain Environment
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 3, 1996, Pages 219~229
Path loss prediction method, one of the most essential parts in measuring the service area in mobile telecommunication, has been developed for many years. But, wave propagation depends on many kinds of environmental factors such as frequency, distance, the heights of transmitting and receiving antenna and the terrain status(buildings in large city, hilly terrain, mountain). These are the main reasons that the propagation models developed in foreign environments can not fit into Korean propagation condition. In this paper, therefore, we performed the measurement in Korean terrain environment in pager frequency band after deviding the terrain characteristics into six types. With this measured data, we derived several curves that follows the long-term wave progagation behavior and developed the wave propagftion prediction model which calculates the field strength at any point in the service area. The proposed model estimates the field strength in two categories, LOS(line-of-sight), or non LOS. We applied this model using the digital terrain data base and compared with the measured data. The result shows that the errors were between 3~9dB, which turned out to be practical.
A Study on the Improvement of BFSK Signal Performance in Mobile Radio Channel with Impulsive Noise
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 3, 1996, Pages 230~238
In this paper, the performance improvement of BFSK signal by using diversity reception and coding technique in Rayleigh fading and impulsive noise environments has been evaluated and compared with that in Gaussian noise environment. It is found that as the CNR increases, BFSK signal performance shows an error floor regardless of impulsive noise effects in Rayleigh fading environment. Also diversity reception technique can improve the error performance not only in a Gaussian noise environment but also in a fading and impulsive noise environment. When diversity reception and coding techniques are used together in impulsive noise and Rayleigh fading environment, the improvement of error performance becomes about 11[dB] in terms of CNR as compared with that of only coding technique is applied.
Time-Domain Response of Transmission-Line Structures Excited by an External Electromagnetic Pulse
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 3, 1996, Pages 239~245
The time-domain response of a two-conductor-structure transmission line excited by an incident electromagnetic pulse is numerically analyzed using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method. The external electromagnetic pulse is generated by ultilizing a TEM cell. The simulated time-domain response is compared with the time-domain response which is obtained by the Inverse Fast Fourier Transform(IFFT) of the frequency domain measurement data.
Design of Mode Transducer between
Mode in Rectangular Waveguide and
Mode in Circular Waveguide
Doo-Yeong Yang ;
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 3, 1996, Pages 246~253
In this paper, a problem that occurred in the telegraphist equation established by mode conversion method is solved as analysis tapered transmission line is applied to a waveguide taper. After comparing and analyzing the taper function with variant properties, we select on of taper functions not only that is easily designed but also that have good properties. And then we propose the applicant method to design the waveguide taper and deal with the design of mode transducer between rectangular waveguide and circular waveguide. The measured results of scattering coefficients for the mode transducer fabricated with designed data are agreed well with the theoretical results and the validity of the proposed design and analysis method has been confirmed.
Dseign of a Selectable Left and Right Handed Circular Polarizer
Yang, Doo-Yeong ;
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 3, 1996, Pages 254~262
In this paper, we present a polarizer that consists of three step rotary detents which can selectively convert linear polarzation into circular polarization and vice versa. For the design of the polarizer, the transmission line theory is applied to design the wa- veguide mode transducer for the modes to be smothly converted in waveguides, and a dielectric plate is inserted in circular waveguide for the conversion of a polarized wave with the angle of an inserted dielectric plate. Also, we simulated to obtain the optimum values of the transmission and the reflection coefficient characteristics at input and output port, and proved the propriety of the theory from the knowledge of measuring the constructed polarizer with the designed data.
Design of Optimal Hop Length for Fixed Radio Relay Links above 20GHz in Korea
The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, volume 7, issue 3, 1996, Pages 263~271
The frequency band above 20GHz is the great radio resource which has not been used. But the attenuation by atmosphere is so large that the radio systems using this frequency band must have shorter hops. There are few studies of optimal hop length for these millimetric wave radio links in Korea. In this paper we analyzed the millimetric wave propagation characteristics in atmosphere and estimated rain attenuation which have a great effect on hop length. Furthermore, we present a rainfall rate(mm/h) of the cities including Seoul and Pusan using the data collected by several rainfall gauges. This paper presents a method of obtaining the optimum hop length for millimer wave radio links based on the rain rate date.
