Determination of Maintenance Factor for Freeway Lighting Luminaires According Traffic Volume

It is required to determine proper values for the maintenance factor according to traffic volume in the freeway lighting design. This paper presents a simple method to seperate of the effect of surrounding environment and that of traffic volume, which is based on the IESNA treatment with additional assumptions on their effects. Furthermore, it is found that prevailing concept for the maintenance factor does not necessarily yield a proper value for light loss factor, so that an additional factor of 0.9 should be included as an equipment factor.factor.
Quantitative Evaluation of the Customers' Effect by Automatic Reclosing of Power Distribution System

This paper presents an approach to quantitatively evaluate customers' effect due to automatic reclosing of power distribution systems. This proposed approach assess the customers' effect on equip ment halt by predicting a momentary interruption and voltage sag and analyzing the impact of customers' equipment sensitive to electric disturbances. Simulation results show that the increment of the number of reclosing improves the service reliability, but deteriorates the power quality for customers. The proposed approach utilizes the determination of automatic reclosing scheme and distribution system planning.anning.
A Study on the Aging Diagnosis of Transformer oil by Spectrometric and Electroanalytical Methods

The furfural, generated by decomposition of insulating paper, the amount of metal in insulating oil, and tano(electrical properties of insulating oil)have been studied for the insulating oil in pole transformer with accelarated thermal aging test. It has been found that tan
is affected by adding components of the transformer. The examination of amount of metal, which exhibits catalytic behavior to oxidation of insulating oil, suggested that the amounts of copper increase with degradation time. A comparison between tano and copper amount suggested that the amounts of copper for attention are above 0.2[pp]). Finally, the examination of amount of furfural revealed that the amounts of furfural increase with degradation time. As a consequence, these results could be used for diagnosis of pole transformer.former.
A Study of New Technique of Harmonic Elimination in Three-Phase Bridge AC/DC Converter

A new technique for shaping the line current and reducing the total hannonic distortion in a threephase rectifier is introduced. A review of the problems inherent in a three-phase diode rectifier feeding capacitive load and the possible solutions are first presented. The proposed 3 bidirectional switches and their operation are presented. The main features of this paper are low cost, high efficiency and simplicity. A simulation and experiment results show its good action.action.
Fault Diagnosis based on Real-Time Data of the inverter system for BLDCM drive

This paper describes the fault diagnosis based on real-time data of the inverter system for brush less DC motor drive. After identifying all the fault types in the inverter system, a preliminary typical analysis of fault types has been classified into the key fault symptoms. The predicted fault performances are then substantiated by using ACSL(Advanced Continuous Simulation Language), and the simulated results are composed of knowledge-base. The real-time measured data from the inverter system are compared with the simulated knowledge-base through the inference engine of expert system, which have been used to diagnose the fault causes. If some faults may occur in the inverter system, this system will be stopped. And then the expertise of elimination and remedial strategies about the fault causes, will be supplied rapidly to operator who doesn't know well about the inverter drive system.system.
An Integrated Fault Diagnosis System for Power System Devices using Meta-inference and Fuzzy Reasoning

This paper presents an integrated fault diagnosis expert system to assist SCADA operators in local control centers which controls unmanned distribution substations in a power system. The proposed system diagnoses various faults occurred in both substation devices and transmission devices. The system can be easily installed without disturbing main SCADA system. The system simply shares the dynamic information including alarms with main SCADA using dual data link interface. And the proposed expert system utilizes the fuzzy reasoning process in order to consider the uncertainty factor. The system is developed using a low cost personal computer owing to the special modular programming and the meta-inf!'lrence structure. Case studies showed a promising possibility.bility.
Development the Educational and Training Package with an integrated Graphic Environment for Power System Analysis & Operation

This paper describes the development of educational and training package with Integrated graphic environment for power system analysis '||'&'||' operation. This package runs on a personal computer with interactive scheme and includes a graphic editor for modeling of power system, a database system, the various graphic illustration '||'&'||' animation modules to represent the simulation results, and the application module of the power system analysis '||'&'||' operation. The proposed package is tested on a sample system, the package will be useful for the education and training of power system analysis and operation.
Implementation of interlock in Process Control System Described by Sequential Function Chart Graphical Language

Ladder Diagram(LD) is the most extensively used among Programmable Logic Controller(PLC) standard languages for the design of process control system with PLC. But LD has the disadvantages for data processing and maintenance. On the other hand, there is full support for describing sequences so that complete sequential behavior can be easily broken down using a concise graphical language called Sequential Function Chart(SFC). Inspite of those characteristics, SFC is not suitable for describing interlock logic. In this paper, we propose the method for implementing interlock logic by using conventional SFC compiler and verify the effectiveness by applying proposed scheme to the In-Line Spin Coater.Coater.
Design of intelligent Traffic Control System using Multiprocessor Architecture

In this paper, we proposed the design of the intelligent traffic control system by using multiprocessor architecture. The inter-processor communication of the architecture is implemented by sharing the serial communication channel. In comparing the conventional traffic control system using single processor architecture, the proposed system uses multiple processors controlling the sub systems such as the signal lights, traffic measurement unit, auxiliary signal lights and peripherals. The main processor controls the communication among the processors and the communication protocol link to the central control center at remote site. The proposed architecture reduces the load and simplifies the program of each processor and enables the real time processing of the add-on features of intelligent traffic control systems. The architecture is implemented and the common channel inter-processor communications and the real time operation is experimented .experimented .
Optimal Operation of industrial Cogeneration Plant with Back-Pressure and Extraction-Condensing Turbine/Generators

This paper presents a novel algorithm for determining the optimal operation of a cogeneration plant with back-pressure and extraction-condensing turbine/generators. The proposed algorithm determines the optimum load of boilers and turbine/generators, using only one parameter, the steam mass flow rate, which can be obtained directly from on-line measurement during plant operation. The proposed algorithm consists of the non -linear operating cost function, and its correlated constraints. Furthermore, it has been successfully applied to an actual industrial cogeneration plant, with satisfactory results. Comparison of these results with actual operating data has revealed that using the proposed algorithm results in at least 1.2~4.5[%] operating cost saving, depending on the process steam load. Furthermore the proposed algorithm can be easily installed in a process control computer because the required input data can be easily obtained from information available on-line.n-line.
A Design of Speed Control Systems for the Governor in Power Station using QFT and Genetic Algorithm

Speed control systems of the governor in power station used in this study is organized by the regulator (PID controller), actuator and turbine. Considering parameter uncertainties and disturbances in this system, the performance may not be achieved by the PID control. Therefore, a design technique is necessary that accomplish the desired system performance tolerance in despite of plant uncertainty i\I1d disturbances. In this study, we used QFT(Quantitative Feedback Theory) to provide stable operation in power plant and presented the genetic algorithm for loop shaping approximation technique of QFT. And we designed speed control systems for the governor using the above approach.proach.
The Effect on Breakdown of the Conducting Particles Between Coaxial Cylindrical Electrodes in

This paper describes the breakdown characteristics of GIS by the free conducting particles under alternating voltage. If the conducting particles are present within the GIS, they can cause decrease in breakdown voltages. Various materials and sizes of free conducting particles were used to study the liftoff electric field and breakdown voltage. The measured lift-off electric fields were compared with the calculated ones for copper, steel and aluminium wire-type conducting particles. As an experimental result, it is shown that the breakdown voltages of the GIS chamber with conducting particles were lower than those without conducting particles, and were markedly dependent on the particle material and the particle sizes. Free conducting particles are important factor in particle-triggered breakdown of the GIS.he GIS.
Analysis Chatacteristics and Design of a Current-fed High Frequency inverter with Separated Resonant Capacitor

The current-fed high frequency inverter with separated parallel resonant capacitor is presented in this paper. The analysis of the proposed circuit is generally described by using normalized parameter, and are evaluated characteristics of the circuit.In addition, this paper proves the propriety of theoretical analysis in terms of the experimental waveforms using the switching device MOSFET. In the future, the proposed inverter will expected that it can be practically used as the high frequency power source for induction heating etc.ng etc.
A Study on the Confirmation of non-flammabikity of the Cast Resin Mold Transformer in Subway Substation

This dissertationhas confirmed the non-flam mability of cast mold transformer that is increasingly used lately. As a research progress, the investigation has been performed on the installation status and each line of the subway system which have the most mold transformer accidents, and the impediment status of the transformer for rectifier and the high-voltage distribution transformer per each manufacturer. Then, a high voltage mold of the actual mold transformer has been installed in the horiwntal heating furnace and the heat has been applied by the standard heating temperature curve of KSF 2257(Fireproof testing meth od of the construction structures: 1993). Accordingly, the combustibility of the mold transformer based on the test results has been found that 78 minutes has been required for the complete burning per the KSF 2257 combustion test curve and that, after stopping the heat application of the horizontal furnace after ignition, the flame progress has not been made but shown as the self-extinguishing characteristics when the flame progress has been checked. Thus, the non-flammability and self-extinguishability of the mold transformer have been confirmed. The result of this dissertation has indicated that the accident involving mold transformer has been progressed and expanded by the dielectric breakdown or void due to the crack in the mold rather than a fire accident caused by a short-circuit or an overload.r an overload.
Development of Learning Controller with Feedback for Equipment System

In this paper a second-order iterative learning control algorithm with feedback is proposed for use in real equipment systems requiring accurate and robust control. The convergence condition of the proposed algorithm is provided, and a simulation result is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. It is shown that, by adding a feedback term in learning control algorithm, convergence speed, robustness to disturbances or system parameter variations can be improved.proved.
Effect of the Cross Magnetizatin Saturated Generators on the Analysis of Steady State Stability

This paper presents a modeling of a synchronous machine infinite bus system of which not only seperated saturation effect but also cross magnetization effect of the saturated generator is included for the more precise analysis of the system. Development of a High-Efficient Magneric Ballast for Fluorescentlamps

A new magnetic ballast was designed and developed to get high luminous efficiency. The core material of new magnetic ballast was G-9 and its shape of core is modified. The diameter of the coil was upgraded to 0.5[mm], and a new power-saving circuit was designed for the semiconductor ignition starter. The experimental results of the ballast showed reduction of the electric loss in the magnetic ballast about 1.7Watt (0.5[%]). The luminous efficiency was increased by 6.2 lm/Watt (7.6[%]) and the ballast efficiency factor(BEF) of 1.09(7.6[%]). The prototype was tested through national standard testing procedure. A high efficient energy-using equipment (the second grade in the efficiency of energy consumption) was certified. The saving power of 1.7[W] was shown by lighting appratus for fluorescent lamps. The result will be used for the high efficient magnetic ballast technology.nology.
