An Application of a PLC to a Control System for a Dual Tower Dryer in Nuclear Power Plant

A control system using a programmable logic controller (PLC) has been developed for a dual tower dryer (DTD) in a canadian deuterium natural uranium reactor (CADND) type nuclear power plant. This system will replace the existing DTD control system which was implemented with mechanical timers and relays. The new control system makes it possible for an operator to perform more precise time and dew point control for the DTD, thanks to the high efficiency and flexibility of the PLC. The operational cost for the control system is much reduced compared to the existing system.
Locating Particle by Ultrasonic Signal and Partial Discharge Signal Pattern in GIS

This paper describes the analysis of ultrasonic signal and partial discharge(PD) signal patterns for each location of particle in GIS. The characteristics of the ultrasonic signal and PD signal patterns for each location were as follows; in case of particle on the electrode, large ultrasonic signals and large PD signals occurred in positive half-cycle periodically; in case of particle on the spacer, ultrasonic signals and large PD signals occurred in negative half-cycle periodically; in case of the free moving particle, ultrasonic signals and large PD signals occurred by collision non-periodically. As a result, it was confirmed that particle in GIS could be located by the comparison and analysis of ultrasonic signal and PD signal patterns.
Improvement with Speed Response of Moving Magnet Type LDM

In this paper, to improve the mechanical response of the Moving Magnet Type LDM, the design of the LDM was optimized to achieve a large force to volume ratio without reduction the force. The model of the LDM and its optimization procedure were developed on the initial assumption that the magnetic circuit is linear. To analyze the magnetic flux distribution throughout the volume of the LDM and the slider back iron, a 2D finite element analysis of the LDM was performed.
The Constant Output Power Control of SSRT FB DC-DC Converter by an Improved Phase-shift Control

This paper deals with a control strategy for constant output power of SSRT(Soft Switching Resonant Type) FB(Full Bridge) DC-DC converter by an improved phase shift controller. When the FB DC-DC converter for the high density and the high effect control is operated in high speed switching, the switching loss and switching stress of the switching devices are increased. So, the soft switching method, which has the phase shift control with the digital I-PD controller, must be use in order to reduce its. And the output voltage that controlled by the digital I-PD controller tracks a reference without steady state error in variable input voltage. The validity of control strategy that proposed is verified from simulation results and experimental results by the DSP(TMS320C32).
Harmonic Analysis and Filter Design on Distribution System using SuperHarm

The increasing application of power electronic equipment 'especially (ASDs: adjustable speed drives)] on distribution systems has led to a growing concern for harmonic distortion and the resulting impacts on system equipment and operations. Therefore, harmonic studies have become an important aspect of power system analysis and design in recently years. Computer simulations which is related harmonic are used to quantify the distortion in voltage waveforms in a power system. Many digital computer programs are available for harmonic analysis. In frequency spectrum analysis, Simulation using SuperHarm program is superior to simulation using others. Therefore, Computer simulation using SuperHarm program is one of the effective ways to assess the harmonic effects of ASDs. The purpose of this study is to calculate the quantity of harmonic voltage by varying the ASD side load and to design the optimal harmonic filter for the elimination of harmonics.
Acoustic-Resonance Reduction of Metal Halide Lamps Using Amplitude Modulation

In this paper, a new control method is presented to reduce acoustic resonance phenomena of metal halide lamps with electronic ballasts. A behavior of frequency controlled resonant inverter is analyzed and the transfer function is obtained. An integrator as a current controller for ballast is employed. By using both a disturbance of the lamp power and spread spectrum effects for reducing acoustic resonance, an amplitude modulation is done by using the current controller with 200[Hz] sinusoidal wave. Arc stabilities of MH 250[W] lamps are studied with changing the modulation index. Experiments with two MH 250[W] lamps, made by different manufacturers, showed the validity of the proposed method.
Development of Intelligent Demand Controller

In this paper, the intelligent demand control system was introduced. This system was composed of Intelligent demand controller, RTU(Remote Terminal Unit) and HMI(Human Machine Interface) program.The main features of developed system meter recommended by KEPCO. Secondly, the developed demand controller had a measurement function, so system could be simplified. Thirdly, network function was implemented to control a distanced loads. With program, the users who was not trained could operate system. Additionally, management based Web was considered to monitor and manage the system remotely. The system performance was proved in a several experiments.
Robust speed control of DC motor using PID-Expert Hybrid controller

Robust control for DC motor is needed according to the highest precision of industrial automation. However, when a motor control system with PID controller has an effect of load disturbance, it is very difficult to guarantee the robustness of control systems.In this paper, PID-Expert hybrid control method for motor control system as a compensation method solving this problem is presented. If PID control system is stable, the Expert controller is idle. if the error hits the boundary of the constraint, the Expert controller begins operation to force the error back to the constraint set. The disturbance effect decrease remarkably, robust speed control of DC motor using PID-Expert Hybrid controller is demonstrated by the simulation.
The Control Strategy For Fast Response Of A Synchronous Generator Excitation System

This paper deals with the design and evaluation of the evaluation of the robust controller for a synchronous generator excitation system to improve the steady state and transient stability. The nonlinear characteristics of the system is treated as model uncertainties, and then the robust control techniques are introduced into the power system stability design to take into account these uncertainties at the controller design stage. The performance of the designed controller is examined by extensive non-linear time domain simulation. It is shown that the performance of the robust controller is superior to that of the conventional PI controller.
Analysis of the Control Model of Third Harmonics Injected PWM Inverter in Over Modulation Mode

A new modified command voltage of the third harmonics injected PWM inverter is proposed to control the inverter in overmodulation mode. The third harmonics injected PWM has a extended linear region compared with the sine PWM. But it still has a maximum voltage about 90% compared with the six step inverter. By analyzing the relationship between the modulation index and the peak of the fundamental component of the modified reference voltage, we can settle the problem in over modulation mode without iteration. Then we can increase the maximum fundamental component of the third harmonics injected PWM inverter comparative to six-step inverter continuously in over modulation mode. The simulation results of the inverter-induction motor system shows the validity of this method.
An Effect of Maximizing Efficiency Control of Induction Motor for Electric Vehicle Drive Systems(II)

This paper presents the test result of electric vehicle to evaluate a point of difference between maximizing efficiency control and conventional constant flux control(CFX) strategy of induction motor driver. A proposed maximizing efficiency control(MEC) strategy is compared with th constant flux control strategy. The comparison test is carried out with two types of F.T.P-72 and E.P.A driving schedule. This research shown the effectiveness of an enlargement of driving distance of the electric vehicle when a maximizing efficiency control strategy adopted.
