Distance Measurement and Three-Dimensional Image Display using Incoherent Holography

We derived the resolution of the modified triangular interferometer and described the analysis about distance measurement using the one. Also, to demonstrate the feasibility of distance measurement using the modified triangular interferometer, the incoherent hologram of a two-point source with depth and its numerical reconstruction were presented. We demonstrated the possibility of the modified triangular interferometer as a three-dimensional display by recording and reconstructing the incoherent hologram of three-dimensional image.
Fabrication and Characteristics of Flat Fluorescent Lamp

In this paper, we studied a flat fluorescent lamp with high luminance for LCD backlighting. The lamps have simple structures with ITO glass, insulator layer, phosphor layer, electrode layer and gas gap. The firing voltage was decreased with increasing the frequency. It was considered that this tendency was resulted from the space charge effect due to Xe and Ar positive ions trapped in gas gap. Decrease of uniform voltage at higher drive frequency is due to the remaining space charges which are produced by preceding period. As a result, luminance of 2700[cd/m
] and maximum luminous efficiency of 51[m/W] were obtained with luminance uniformity of 96[%] in operation(700[V
A Study on the New Discharge Logic Device for the Plasma Display Panels

The plasma display panel with the electrode structure of new discharge AND gate was proposed and the driving system for experiment was developed. And discharge AND gate operation was verified. Discharge AND gate operated by the operation speed of 8
and the operation margin of 20V. It was known to be able to control the discharge of the adjoining scan electrode accurately. Because this method uses the DC discharge, the control of the discharge can be facilitated compared with conventional discharge AND gate. Moreover, because the input discharge and the output discharge of AND gate are separate, the display discharge can be prevented from passing AND gate. Therefore it is possible to app1y to the large screen plasma display. And the decrease of contrast ratio does not occur because the scanning discharge does not influence the picture quality.
Development of Electronic Ballast for Metal Halide Lamp wilts Free Voltage Input

HID(high intensity discharge)lamps include high pressure mercury lamp, high pressure sodium lamp and metal halide lamp. Metal halide lamps have been considered to be one of the most erective light sources. These lamps have good efficiency, good color rendering and good focusing capability. The objective of this research is to alum on the metal halide lamp(MH70W) by the developed electronic ballast with free voltage input(AC 100∼277V). The developed electronic ballast consists of a free voltage input converter, a flyback converter ＆ half-bridge inverter, ignitor ＆ protector and control1er. Experimental results show that developed electronic ballast turns on the metal halide lamp(MH70W) with free voltage input(AC 100∼277V) very well.
Flashover Characteristics of the Horizontal Air Gaps Caused by Combustion Flames

In this paper, characteristics of the ac and dc flashover voltage in the horizontal air gap of a needle-needle electrode system were investigated when the combustion flame was present near the high-voltage electrode. In order to examine the flashover phenomena and the corona inception voltages caused by flame we measured the voltage and current waveforms when the corona and the flashover was occurred. We also observed, as increasing the applied voltages, the deflection or fluctuation phenomena in the shape of flames caused by the corona wind and the coulomb`s force. The Characteristics of Surface Flashover on the Semiconductor in High Electric-Field

In the last decade, considerable efforts have been made to make a new class of solid state high power, high speed electronic device, namely, the Photo-Conductive Power Switch(PCPS), and to characterize the high-field performance of PCPS under high power, high voltage conditions. But the problem of surface flashover phenomena persist, preventing the realization of reliable and efficient high-speed, high voltage switching devices. It is essential to have a clear understanding on the physical processes behind the surface flashover problem to develop new technologies and device architectures so as to fabricate PCPS that are capable of high-field high-voltage. Also, it is imperative to identify new materials that could satisfy the requirements for high-field, high-power devices. Since surface flashover, surface breakdown phenomena is observed for all the devices that foiled at the applied field much lower than semiconductor bulk breakdown field, surface passivation is considered one of the important practical methods to improve the high field performance of the devices. Therefore, this paper was studied the main properties and mechanism of the semiconductor surface flashover before and after passivation under high electric-field.
The Feature Extraction of Partial Discharge Electromagnetic Wave utilizing Signal Processing Techniques

In recent years, diagnostic techniques have been investigated to detect a partial discharge(PD) in a high voltage electrical equipment. Because PD signal is very sensitive and difficult to suppress strong noises such as narrow-band radio frequency noise and random noise, the accuracy and credibility of PD measurement might be influenced by surrounding interference. Using the technique of PD detection by electromagnetic wave, we have studied the characteristics of both PD and substation-in interference signal. Also, we propose a wavelet packet transform based technique to perform a feature extraction from the interference and PD signal and a classification of the extracted features. The results show that time-frequency characteristics between PD and interference can be obviously distinguished. It is helpful for the development of the insulation diagnosis technique.
Development of Load Modeling for Induction Motor Using Steady-slate Equivalent Circuit

A substantial portion of power system load is made of large induction motors. Accordingly, static and dynamic simulation of induction motors are very important in the power flow and transient stability analysis. The purpose of this paper is to report the development of load modeling for induction motor using the steady-state equivalent circuit. A proposed simulation model of induction motor lets simulation under wide range varying voltages and frequencies be very easy and exact. This paper is presented through a case study, and its feasibility is demonstrated via simulation and experiments.
A Study on the Optimal Grounding Design using Pattern Search Method for Electric Power Facilities

Electric power facilities must have effective grounding to provide means to carry electric current into the earth under fault conditions and to prevent damage of equipment, ignition, and electrocution of personnel. This paper resent an algorithm called the Pattern Search method for the optimal parameters selection of the grounding system Simulation results using these parameters obtained from the PS method verify that the grounding systems are adequately designed.
PLD Design of LCD Drive Circuit using PC Interface

This paper presents a PLD design of Gray Mode Graphic STN LCD drive circuit using PC interface. The proposed LCD drive circuit doesn\`t use microprocessor for the convenience of users. Thus, the LCD drive circuit can transfer efficiently image data created under PC to LCD. The LCD drive circuit which is modelled in schematic capture, AHDL and VHDL is simulated in functionally through the use of ALTERA MAX+PLUS II. Also, timing simulation is performed by ALTERA EPM7192SQC160-15 PLD implementation. The PC interface part have been programmed in MS-Visual C++ 6.0. The validity and efficiency of the proposed LCD drive circuit have been verified by test board. After comparing this LCD drive circuit to specify it was verified that the developed LCD drive circuit showed good performances, such as convenience of users, low cost.
Characteristic Analysis of Voltage Sags Due to Faulted Distribution Lines

Voltage sags caused by line faults in transmission and distribution lines have become one of the most important power quality problems facing industrial customers and utilities. Voltage sags are normally described by characteristics of both magnitude and duration, but phase angle shifts should be taken account in identifying sag phenomena and finding their solutions. In this paper, voltage sags due to line faults such as three phase-to-ground, single line-to-ground, and line-to-line faults are characterized by using symmetrical component analysis, for fault impedance variations. Voltage sags and their effect on the magnitude and phase angle are examined. Balanced sags of three phase-to-ground faults show that voltages and currents are changed with equivalent levels to all phases and the zero sequence components become zero. However, for unbalanced faults such as single line-to-ground and line-to-line faults, voltage sags give different magnitude variations and phase angle shifts for each phase. In order to verify the analyzed results, some simulations based on power circuit models are also discussed.
A Study on the Analysis of Bilinear Systems via Fast Walsh Transform

Generally when the orthogonal functions are used in system analysis, the time consuming processes of high order matrix inversion for finding the Kronecker products and the truncation errors are occurred. In this paper, a method for the system analysis of bilinear systems via fast walsh transform is devised. This method requires neither the inversion of large matrices nor the cumbersome procedures for finding Kronecker products. Thus, both the computing time and required memory size can be significantly reduced.
A Study on the Electromagnetic Transients at Switching Capacitor Banks in a Electric Distribution Electric Power Distribution Substation

Transient in an electric distribution system are mainly generated by switching. This paper presents analysis of switching surge and means of limiting the voltage magnification transient for high voltage power systems by using the EDSA`s EMTAP software package. One means of limiting the voltage magnification transient is to convert the end-user power factor contraction capacitor banks to harmonics filters. An inductance in series with the capacitor bank was used to decrease the transient voltage at the customer bus to acceptable levels. And also simulation results used the EDSA harmonics analysis program show the effect of harmonics reduction.
A Study on Distance Relay Characteristics for Transmission Line wish the Unified Power Flow Controller

This paper represents impedance calculation of the distance relay using PSCAD/EMTDC software for transmission line involving the UPFC(Unified Power Flow Controller)device, which is the most vigorous component of FACTS. The presence of the UPFC significantly affects the line parameters of transmission system, which are also influenced by the distance relay setting. Moreover, depending on the UPFC location and its parameters, zones of setting the distance relay will be changed. The presence of the UPFC in the fault loop affects both voltage and current seen by relay. Therefore, the distance relay should be taken into account the variable injected voltage of the UPFC.
Breakdown Characteristics of Ar/N
Gas Mixtures with Pressure Variation

In this paper, breakdown characteristics of pure Kr, Ar and
gas with gas pressure range were investigated, and the measured values were compared with those in Ar/
gas mixtures with pressure varying. Also, various characteristics with gas mixtures in practical incandescent lamps were investigated. Summarizing the experimental results, the breakdown voltages of
gas were increased than those of Kr and Ar gas with large molecular weight, and the breakdown voltage increased with gas pressure increasing. The breakdown voltages of Ar/
gas mixtures were decreased with decreasing the mixtures ratio of
gas, and corona inception voltage of Kr/
gas mixtures under non-uniform fields were increased than those of Ar/
gas mixtures. In case of tactical incandescent lamps, luminous and lifetime of Kr(70%)/
(30%) gas mixtures were increased about 94[lm] and 380[hr] than those of Ar(70%)/
(30%) gas mixtures. and injection pressure of gas mixtures with cooling temperature of 20[
] in incandescent lamps were increased about 13[%] than those with cooling temperature of 40[
