Development of Simulator to Electronic Ballast for HID Lamp

The electronic ballast have much more shaking of arc than magnetic ballast because of acoustic resonance phenomenon. but it has used mare than before. In this paper, we made metal halide lamp modeling by modifying modeling of mercury lamp. To avoid acoustic resonance phenomenon, We calculated acoustic resonance frequency band. We proposed design of LCC circuit. Also, electronic ballast simulator for metal halide lamp was developed by simulink LCC parameters of inverter was decided on the basis of simulation results. After development of prototype ballast, it was verified the characteristics of simulator.
Efficiency Improvement of an Electronic Ballast for HID Lamps

A high-efficiency electronic ballast for HID lamps is presented. The ballast consists of a PFC and a resonant inverter. To reduce losses of the ballast, DC link voltage should be determined by taking into account the peak voltage of lamp and the maximum flux density should be kept 0.2[T] on all of inductors. AR inductor at bridge diode is employed in order to remove currant harmonics from PFC. An inductor is connected in series with an electrolytic capacitor at DC link to reject high-frequency current. The acoustic resonance is eliminated using the stead spectrum technique. The electronic ballast for 250[W] metal-halide discharge lamp is implemented and 96[%] efficiency, no acoustic resonance and low conducted EMI level are accomplished.
The Development Of the Electronic Ballast for HPS lamp using the RCD Snubber and Quasi-Square Wave

In this paper, We have researched about the Electronic Ballast for 250W HPS(High Pressure Sodium) lamp. This Electronic Ballast is capable to operate the Ignition and Steady State Using the Class D LCC resonant tank, and minimizing the full-bridge inverter`s Switching Stress by implementation Quasi-square ZC-ZVS Soft Switching Method. And also, We have reduced the heat of MOS-FETs and high frequency switching surge noise using the RCD damp snubber. Therefore, We are sure that the developed ballast has the properties of the stable & reliable Control and the function of minimizing the total noise of the system.
Parks` Landscape Lighting Plan around Waterfront for Improving city Beautification at Night -Focused on Han Kang (river)`s Park in Seoul-

The Parks`landscape lighting at night influences people`s visual comfort, safety and so on. So, this study aims to suggest new lighting plan in Han Kang(river) Parks for improving the city beautification in Seoul. Therefore, field survey was performed in two parks. And The lighting fixtures ware investigated, and horizontal illuminations were measured by Topcon-IM5 to compare with the Korea Standard Some findings and problems were discussed. As a result, to improve the lighting quantity and duality of the concept, light source lighting fixtures and installation were suggested, and the scenes of suggested lighting plan ware indicated by computer graphics.
A Study on the Harmonics Reduction using Phase Shifting Transformer in a Electric Power Distribution System

The increasing use of non-linear loads such as power electronics draw highly distorted currents from the utility system High harmonics current, and voltages will cause equipment damage and disturb the plant operation. The application of phase shifting transformers can be a very cost-effective method of harmonic treatment where multiple harmonic sources ice in operation. In this paper simulation results used the EDSA harmonics analysis program verifying the effects of a phase shifting transformer for harmonic elimination are presented.
A Study on the Appropriate Selection of a Power System Stabilizer and Power Converters for HVDC Linked System

This paper presents an algorithm for the appropriate parameter selection of a power system stabilizer and power converters in two-area power systems with a series HVDC links. The method for PSS is one of the classical techniques by allocating properly poly-zero positions to fit as closely as desired the ideal phase lead and by changing the gain to produce a necessary damping torque. Proper parameter of power converters are obtained in order to have sufficient speed and stability margin to cope with changing reference values and disturbances based on the Root-locus technique. The small signal and transient stability studies using the PSS and power converters parameters obtained from these methods show that a natural oscillation frequency of the study case system is adequately damped. The simulation used in the paper was performed by the Power System Toolbox software program based on MATLAB.
Speed Control of Induction Motor by Means of Expert PLC in Variable load

PID Controller is widely used as automatic equipment for industry. However, when a system has various characters, parameter decision and tuning for accurate control is a hard task. In this paper, expert auto-tuning PID controller using PLC is presented as away of solving this problem. Expert auto tuning algorithm is based on Ziegler-Nichols step response and expert knowledge. The test of control performance is carried out in practical speed control of Induction Motor in variable load, the experimental results suggest its superior performance.
A Study on the Electric Field Analyses and Improvement of Insulation Characteristics on the Ribbed Spaced for GIS

This paper analyzed the effect of ribs on the breakdown characteristics when a metallic particle attaches on the various spot of GIS spacer, using electric field analysis. Also, it was compared with the experimental result of breakdown voltage characteristics for the spacer with a metallic particle on its various spot and with the shape, the length, and the thickness of the ribs varying. The results of electric field analysis show that the electric field concentration of the rib is more weakened than other parts and therefore it restrains the proceeding of streamer, which occurs at the breakdown. And it is verified through experiments that the breakdown voltage of the spacer with rib is higher than that of the spacer without rib. The breakdown characteristics depend on the shape, the length, and the thickness of the rib as well. Also, it is confirmed by the electric field analysis and the experimental results that the electric breakdown characteristics could be improved by rounding the rib edge.

The fan stall guard system of boiler airing system of the class of 500MW capacity to protect fan. But because confidence is loosed and operation is influenced by frequent fault of fan stall guard system, confidence is improved by substituting DCS Logic for it.
A Study on the Sliding Mode Control of PMLSM using the Slate Observer

According to the rapid growth of high speed and precise industry, the application of synchronous motor has been increased. In the application fields, these fast dynamic response is of prime importance. In particular, since the PMLSM(Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor) has characteristics of high speed, high thrust, it has been used in high-performance servo drive. From these reasons, it is recently used for high precise position control, and machine tool. In this paper, a study of the sliding mode with VSS (Variable Structure System) design for a PMLSM is presented. For fast and precise motion control of PMLSM, the compensation of disturbance and parameter variation is necessary. Hence we eliminate the reaching phase use of VSS that is changed to switching function and vector control using the state observer. And we proposed to sliding mode control algorithm so that realize fast response without overshoot, disturbance and parameter variation.
Economic Assessment of the Battery Energy Storage System with Its Customer Type

The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has lots of advantages such as load leveling, quick response emergency power (spinning reserve), frequency and voltage control, improvement of reliability, and deferred generation and transmission construction. However, it is very critical that economic feasibility requires justification from the customer side of meter to promoting the dissemination of BESS in nation widely. In this paper, we proposed the economic assessment model of customer owned BESS which is complemented and improved the existing model. The proposed model is applied to the typical customer types, i.e. light industrial, commercial, and residential, which are taken from the statistical analysis on the load profile survey of Korea Electric Power COmpany (KEPCO). The economic viability performed for each customer load type to justifying their economic feasibility of BESS installation from the economic measures such as payback period, Net Present Worth (NPW), Rate Of Return (ROR). The results show that the BESS has economic benefits to the specific customer type, i.e. residential customer. Therefore, the government and the energy agency should be committing the support program, such as tax incentive, financial support, to disseminate the BESS nation widely. The results of this paper are useful to the customer investment decision-making and the national energy policy & strategy in Korea.
Improvement Plans of Railway standards for Surge Protective Devices used in Low-voltage Power circuits

In this paper we study the performance test items and improvement plans of surge protective devices for low-voltage power circuits used in railway system. Above of all, the sources of electromagnetic interference in railway system are researched. And then we compared domestic railway standard with IEC and IEEE standards far the test items and methodologies of surge protective devices. Through the investigations, we found that the domestic standard is behind in the number of test items and methods on surge protective devices. As the countermeasures, we suggest removing component tests of surge protective devices, separating standards for power and signal standards, and using international surge waveform. In applying to domestic railway surge protective devices, surge limiting voltage measuring and surge endurance tests by international standard methods are good result.
Special-Days Load Handling Method using Neural Networks and Regression Models

In case of power demand forecasting, the most important problems are to deal with the load of special-days. Accordingly, this paper presents the method that forecasting long (the Lunar New Year, the Full Moon Festival) and short(the Planting Trees Day, the Memorial Day, etc) special-days peak load using neural networks and regression models. long and short special-days peak load forecast by neural networks models uses pattern conversion ratio and four-order orthogonal polynomials regression models. There are using that special-days peak load data during ten years(1985∼1994). In the result of special-days peak load forecasting, forecasting % error shows good results as about 1 ∼2[%] both neural networks models and four-order orthogonal polynomials regression models. Besides, from the result of analysis of adjusted coefficient of determination and F-test, the significance of the are convinced four-order orthogonal polynomials regression models. When the neural networks models are compared with the four-order orthogonal polynomials regression models at a view of the results of special-days peak load forecasting, the neural networks models which uses pattern conversion ratio are more effective on forecasting long special-days peak load. On the other hand, in case of forecasting short special-days peak load, both are valid.
A Design of Power System Stabilization of TCSC System for Power system Oscillation Damping

In this paper, it is suggested that the selection method of parameter of Power System Stabilizer(PSS) with robustness in low frequency oscillation for Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor(TCSC) using Geletic Algorithm(GA). A TCSC meddle consists of a stories capacitor and a parallel path with a thyristor valve and a series inductor. Also in in parallel, as is typical with series capacitor applications, is a metal-oxide varistor(MOV) for overvoltage protection. The proposed PSS parameters are optimized using GA in order to maintain optimal operation of TCSC which is expected to be applied in transmission system to achieve a number of benefits under the various operating conditions. In order to verify the robustness of the proposed method, we considered the dynamic response of angular velocity deviation and terminal voltage deviation under a power fluctuation and rotor angle variation.
Characteristics of the Voltage Waveforms Caused by Human Electrostatic Discharges

This paper describes characteristics of transient voltage waveforms caused by human electrostatic discharges(ESDs). For purpose of achieving the statistics on the meaningful amplitude and initial slope for transient ESD voltage waveforms, transient voltages due to human ESDs in various conditions were observed. A voltage measuring system with a wide bandwidth from DC to 400[MHz] was employed. ESD voltage waveforms are approximately the same as ESD current waveforms. Also the simulated results, which are calculated by the reposed equivalent circuit, are closely similar to the measured voltage waveforms. ESD voltage waveforms are strongly dependent on the approach speed and material of intruder, a fast approach causes ESD voltage waveform with a steep rise time than for a slow approach. The voltage waveforms from dialect finger ESDs have a relatively long rise time of 10∼30[ns], but their peaks are low. On the other side ESD voltage waveforms causer by screwdriver with insulating handle have a steep slope with a very short, less than 1[ns] rise time, but their initial spikes are extremely high The obtained results in this work would be applied to solve ESD problems for low voltage and small current electronic devices.
Reduction of the the Ground Surface Potential Gradients by Installing Auxiliary Grounding Grids

The present paper describes a technique for installing an effective grounding grids, the major objective is forced on the experimental evaluation of the performance and characteristics with the arrangement and installation method for grounding grids consisting of the means to protect electric shock, electronics and computerized facilities against lightning, switching and ground fault surges. The study is oriented on two major areas: (1) the analysis of the ground surface potential gradient with the arrangement of grounding grids, (2) the control of the dangerous ground surface potential rise. The experiments wee carried out with the impulse currents as a function of the installation method or arrangement of grounding grids. An installation method of the inclined auxiliary grounding grid was proposed to overcome the drawbacks of equally spared grounding grids, i.e. an appropriate design concept far the installation of grounding grids was found out, It has been shown that the installation of the intwined auxiliary grounding grid can also result in a mere than 50% decrease in the maximum potential gradient on the ground surface and enhance the level of safety for persons and electronic equipments..
