A Design of PID Controller using Quantitative Feedback Theory and Turbine Speed Control

QFT is a very practical design technique that emphasizes the use of feedback for achieving the desired system performances in despite of plant uncertainties and disturbances. The loop shaping procedure of QFT is employed to design the robust controller, until the desired bounds are satisfied. This paper presents an optimization algorithm for designing PID controller using the loop shaping of QFT. The proposed method identifies the parameter vector of PID controller from a linear system that develops from rearranging the two dimensional system matrices and output vectors obtained from the QFT bounds. The feasibilities of the suggested algorithm are illustrated with a turbine speed control problem.
Effective Installation Methods of Down Conductors in Lightning Protection Systems

A modern lightning protection system is required to eliminate the risks such as electrical shocks and damages of structures, electrical and electronic equipments due to lightning. However, the conventional lightning protection systems play and important role in protecting persons and structures only. Thus an effective lightning protection system is indispensable today in computer, information and communication facilities and etc. The mafor objective of this paper is to develop the technology to protect electronics and computerized facilities against lightning-caused overvoltages. The study is oriented on the control of the potential rise of down conductors with the type and installation method of down conductors. As a result, to reduce side flashes and hazards caused by the potential rise of down conductor due to lightning current, the coaxial cable with a low characteristic impedance and high insulation level is suitable for a down conductor. In particular it is extremely effective to bond down conductors to the steel supporter, metal raceways and steel frame of structures.
The Parallel Operation of ZVT-Full Bridge Converter with Dynamic Current Shared Inductor

This paper presents parallel operation of ZVT(Zero Voltage Transition) FUll Bridge Converter with Dynamic Current Shared Inductor. In the conventional method, CT(Current Transformer) have been used tn share the load current equally with converters. In this system, at parallel operation of ZVT Full Bridge Converter, dynamic current shared inductor divides the same current of unit converter and ZVT circuit aids to high efficiency. Superiority of the characteristics is verified through the experiment with a 2[㎾], 50[㎑] prototype converter.
Efficiency and Power Factor Improvement of Induction Motor Using Single-Phase Back Rectifier

Usually, much harmonics are included and cause harmonic loss of motor, torque pulsation, electro-magnetic noise and shock etc. by switching function of inverter when drive induction motor variableness inside. It applied partial resonant Buck converter and three phase voltage type SPWM inverter circuit to induction motor driving system in this paper that see to solve such problem. Changed operation condition variously to do input current of circuit that propose sine-wave by unit power factor almost and capacitor supplied bringing back to life voltage by power supply arranging properly assistance diode and electric power switching. Power factor and efficiency improved as that minimize variation of input at power supply voltage polarity reverse by that add voltage reversal function. Also, by using output filter, reduced harmonic of output line to line voltage components, and introduce state space analysis and forecast operation of rectifier. Such all items confirmed validity through simulation and an experiment.
Effect of Filler and Additive on Performance of Cycloalipatic Epoxy Used for Outdoor Insulators

This paper reports on the results of weathering test, tracking test and salt-fog test of various kinds of cycloaliphatic epoxy systems. UV irradiation dramatically induced the loss of surface hydrophobicity due to the chain scission attack at the surface under UV irradiation. It could be seen that samples containing an UV absorbent/antioxidant and a silicone oil additive have a good performance in weathering test, while ATH(alumina tri-hydrate) filled ones have high resistance against tracking failure than others. Under salt fog chamber test, specimens mixed with silicone oil are able to suppress leakage current development. It was thought that silicone oil mixed into cycloaliphatic epoxy system could lead to lower the surface energy and to retain hydrophobic properties for a long time, which are desirable for outdoor use
Problems and Countermeasures in Installation of Down Conductor Systems

This paper describes the technical issues of the domestic standard and guideline for lightning protection systems in order to propose the countermeasures in damage of computer and electronic equipments due to lightning surges. The relationship between the current flow in the down conductor and the current flow in the steel conduit surrounding the down conductor was investigated as a function of the installation method of down conductors. Also the experiments were conducted to evaluate the influences of the skin effect on the down conductor systems. As a result, when the down conductor were bonded to the steel conduit, the down conductor and the steel conduit act as one conductor, so much mure lightning current flows in the steel conduit than in the copper down conductor because of the skin effect and choking effect. Therefore to reduce the adverse effects such as the electrostatic induction and side flashes caused by the potential rise of down conductors due to lightning currents, it is extremely effective to bond the down conductor to the steel conduit and steel frame of structures.
Corona Discharge and Strong Electrolyzed Water Generation Characteristics of the Electrode System Bedded by Dielectric Pellets

A dielectric pellets bedded parallel plates with a membrane centered have been proposed as an ion separation and collection system in water. and effects of the relative dielectric constant and the applied square wave pulse voltage on the characteristics of ion separation and collection in tap water and NaCl dissolved tap water have been investigated. As a result, electrolyzed water of pH 3.1 and 10.6 were obtained with only tap water at the pulse current of 1.0[A] and flow rate of 0.5[LPM]. And the higher ionized water of pH 2.8 and pH 11.7 ware obtained in 0.1[%wt] NaCl dissolved water. When the dielectric pellets of BaTiO
having the highest dielectric constant were bedded in the ion separation and collection cell, the ionized water of pH 2.7 and pH 11.7 were obtained with only tap water. And the ionized water of pH 2.4 and pH 12.0 were obtained in 0.1[wt%] NaCl dissolved tap water with the dielectrics pellets bedded ones.

Characteristics Analysis of Double Side Excitation Type Multi-separated LDM

The use of linear DC motor is spreaded according to industrial development. This study was objected to study the analysis of double side excitation LDM with moving magnet type. In this LDM structure, the mover made use of permanent magnet with six pieces so as to large thrust, the stator was bedded for the multi separated type winding to repress the i개n saturation. Also, double side excitation winding is suppressed to thrust ripple with stratification to zigzag type and designed to production for static thrust. Then it is important to ratio of permanent magnet to winding width at multi separate, this paper analyzed to separate to three pieces of 1:1, 1:0.84 and 1:0.5 with width ratio. The analysis method calculated the parameter useful for permeance and magnetic resistance more than FEM of complicated numerical value analysis. Through manufactured experiment system, measurement result of thrust was almost acquired to constant thrust for all displacement.
The Propagation Characteristics of Electromagnetic Waves in accordance with electrode shapes at VHF Band Using an Antenna

In this paper, electromagnetic waves radiated from discharge at three-type electrodes(needle-plane, plane-plane and sphere-plane electrode) using AC power source in air are measured and the peculiar patterns of their spectra are reported. The radiated electromagnetic waves were measured in bandwidth of VHF(30-230[MHz]) using a biconical antenna and a spectrum analyzer. When the discharge onset voltage range, high electric field intensity is shown in frequency band of 45, 70, 80[MHz] in case of needle-plane electrode configuration and 40[MHz] in case of plane-plane and sphere-plane electrodes configuration. However, when the breakdown voltage range, the frequency spectrum distribution of radiated electromagnetic waves appear different in the whole frequency range according to the shapes of electrode.
Development of the On-line Ultrasonic Detecter for Transformer Applied Noise Rejection Algorithm

An on-line ultrasonic detector was developed to continuously monitor the ultrasonic signal due to partial discharge in transformer in service. The on-line ultrasonic detector has a band-pass filter designed to measure only the frequencies from 50 to 300[㎑] of ultrasonic signal, to remove electrical and mechanical noises from outside of the transformer, and tlle ultrasonic sensor contains a pre-amplifier with 60[dB] gain. The ultrasonic signal discrimination algorithm which discriminates the ultrasonic signal duration was developed to remove the ultrasonic signal due to OLTC operation having similar characteristics to those due to partial discharge. The reliability of the on-line ultrasonic detector developed in this study was convinced of measurement the ultrasonic signals from the model. transformer in laboratory and transformer in service
Economic Analysis for Introduction to Department Building of Co-generation

In respect of global environment protection and efficient utilization of energy, co-generation systems, which have greatly higher efficiency than the other generations, have been developed and put to practical use. Assuming that the co-generation system would be operating in H-Department of Kwang-ju city, this paper calculates the difference between the heat and electricity rates by the conventional method and the co-generation system considers the cost of new investment and analyzes introduction economics based on the return on investment. The introduction is turned out to be recommendable, since the return of investment for co-generation equipment is about five years when the co-generation profits in heat and electricity rate. Additionally, accounting for interest rate drop, improvement of environmental matters or electricity rate increase, it is shown to be even more economical.
A High Effeciency Functional Water Generation Characteristics by Corona Discharge and Space Charge Control

A novel oxidant generation and ion precipitation cell with slits on parallel plate electrodes was proposed instead of the conventional parallel plate type. An investigation was carried out on the effect of the number and size of slits on ion precipitation and oxidant generation characteristics, evidenced by eliminated space charge limiting action and by elevated electric fields in active interelectrode sparing. Consequently, very high ion precipitation and dense oxidant generation characteristics can be realized by having slits un the electrodes of conventional cells as these slits increase the electric fields and decrease the space charge limiting actions in interelectrode spacing.
Measurements of Fast Transient Voltages due to Human Electrostatic Discharges

This paper presents the measurements and evaluation of voltage waveforms due to human electrostatic discharge(ESD). The principle of operation and design rule of a new device for measuring the ESD fast transient voltages with very fast rise time were described. Peak values and rise time of ESD voltages derived from a charged human body under a variety of experimental conditions were examined. The frequency bandwidth of the proposed voltage measuring system ranges from DC to 400[㎒]. The ESD voltage waveform is nearly equal to the ESD current waveform and the peak amplitude of ESD current waveform is roughly proportional to the ESD voltage in each experimental conditions. A rapid approach results in a discharge voltage with a faster initial rise time than for a slow approach. The voltages caused by direct finger ESDs have an initial slope with a relatively long, 10∼30[ns] rise time, but the amplitude is small. On the other hand, the voltages caused by direct hand/metal ESDs have a steep initial s1ope with 1 ∼3[ns] rise time, but an initial spike is very big. As a consequence, it was found that the ESD voltage and current waveforms strongly depend on the approach speed and material of intruder. These measurement results would be useful to design the ESD protective devices.
A Study on the Measurement of Grounding Resistance based on the Earth Surface Potential Analysis

Measurement of ground resistance is the basic and important procedure to evaluate the proriety of grounding systems performance. In the field, however, it is not an easy task to measure ground resistance accurately, because locating a right position of zero potential for accurate GPR(Ground Potential Rise) measurement is very difficult, especially in case of a grounding electrode with large dimension. In this paper, the estimation method of ground resistance by analysing earth surface potential distribution around the grounding electrodes has been described
