Implementation of a High-Power-Factor Single-Stage Electronic Ballast for fluorescent lamps

In this paper, prototype of high-power-factor single-stage electronic ballast for fluorescent lamp is designed and implemented. A new low cost single stage high power factor electronic ballast for fluorescent lamps is based on integration of two-boost converter and LC type high frequency resonant inverter. The proposed ballast is combined by simple construction, because full bridge rectifier diode is eliminated and simple control circuit is applied. Boost converter operate in the voltage of positive and negative half cycle respectively at line frequency (60㎐), operation in discontinuous conduction mode performs high power factor. The experimental results show the good performance as PF 0.99, THD 15.4%, and CF 1.65 at output 63.5〔W〕.
The Comparison of Color Perception between Korean and American undergrauates

The purpose of this study was to investigate the scope of standard color perception for Americans and to compare the differences in color perception between Korean and American undergraduates. Sixty male and fifty-one female American undergraduates were selected as a random sample. Color perception was tested with the naked eyes. Minolta Chroma Meter CR 300 was used for physical measurement of the color. Based on the objective of this study and the data generated the following results were drawn: 1) We found no distinctive difference in color perception by different eye colors. 2) Color perception of American undergraduates is largely classified into four different groups: simple group includes Yellow, Green, Blue, White, Gray, and Black, X(-axis)group includes Yellow Red, Y(-axis)group includes Blue Green, Purple, complex group includes Yellow Red, Purple Blue. 3) The differences in color perception between the two undergraduate groups were found to be significant with four colors: Yellow Red, Green, Blue, and Purple. 4) There is a wide difference between the values of standard color and inn percept color. When undergraduates in both countries were compared, it turned out that Korean students were more accurate than Americans in color perception. 5) American students perceived Red, Yellow, and Green colors relatively correctly, but showed an extremely low degree of accuracy in Blue and Purple Blue color perception.
Development of High Efficiency Self Diagnosis Type Neon Transformer using Groin Direction of Non-Oriented Silicon Steel Strip

In this paper, a high efficiency leakage transformer for neon tube is developed to improve its power factor, to reduce its core loss and weight by using a technique of shape optimization and grain direction of non-oriented silicon steel strip. A protection circuit is designed for all types of neon transformer loaded with one or more neon tubes. Whenever the neon tube fails to be started up or comes to the life end, or encounters faults with open-circuits at the output terminals of the neon transformer, the electronic type protection circuit will be initiated to avoid more critical hazards. These neon transformers need a electronic type protection circuit to prevent from current stresses on circuit components by neon tube fail. The input of the transformer is automatically cut on when the abnormal condition occurs, preventing waste of no-load power.
Fuzzy Controller Design for Water level Control of Power Plant Drum

In this paper, we propose a fuzzy controller design method for the water level control of the power plant drum in the form of nominimum phase system The proposed method is based on T. Takagi and H. Sugeno`s fuzzy model. And we illustrate the improved characteristics as the simulation results, comparing with the conventional the PID and LQ controller design methods.
Pattern Recognition of PD by Particles in GIS

This paper describes the quantitative analysis and the pattern recognition of partial discharge signals generated by particles in GIS. Four states of particles were simulated in this paper. Partial discharge signals from each state was measured and the Ф-Q-N distribution of partial discharge signals was displayed and then the Ф-Q, the Ф-Qm, the Ф-N and the Q-N distribution were displayed. Each distribution can be quantitatively represented by statistical parameters and the parameters were used for input data of pattern recognition. As the results, it was found that the forms of each distribution were different according to the particle states. Recognition rate using neural network was about 92〔%〕 and the more input data number, the more accurate results.
The Deterioration Diagnosis of pole Transformer using Remote Measurement

This paper proposes on-line based a deterioration diagnosis pole transformers using various sensors such as thermistor, current transformer and potential transformer. We measured load current and temperature to diagnose pole transformer using R/F( radio frequency ) wireless data communication module. We represent the graphs of their feature. The result of this paper shows that the proposed device car be used as deterioration diagnosis device of pole transformers.
Improvement of Welding Performance of Flash bull Welder by on Inverter Controlled Technology

For the improvement of welding performance, high-efficiency inverter system was designed and applied that system to the conventional large scale Flashbutt welder. The inverter systems are consists of full bridge PWM power control system and DSP controller. This inverter system has increased switching frequency of power control system of Flashbutt welder. For the test of application effects, we compared an our inverter control system with a conventional thyristor control system. In the results, we confirmed that our system has decreased the welding spatter amouts and improved welding performance.
Analysis and compensation of the current unbalance considering dynamic characteristic of feeding traction loads

Feeding traction loads from the public power system may lead to some current and voltage unbalance and consequently affects the operation of its energy-supply system and other equipment connected with it. This paper introduces an analysis of the current unbalance caused by the demands of an electric railway on a public power system. And the results with compensator and without compensator are simulated, and eventually the formula about the current unbalance is suggested. The Scott-connected transformer is adopted in Korea National Railway System. So Scott-connected transformer among the various transformer connection schemes is analyzed in this paper. Also, the formulas about the unbalance and compensating current can be derived by using two parameters(M-phase and T-phase current) of secondary Scott-connected transformer. So, the practical and accurate simulation can be done through dynamic models by using scheduling of traction.
A Study on the Development of Power Transfer Capability Calculation Algorithm Considering Initial Maximum Power Transfer Capability

This paper presents a power transfer capability calculation algorithm considering initial maximum power transfer capability. In this method initial maximum power transfer capability is calculated first. Then, the initial value of active power outputs of generators is gotten for power transfer capability calculation. The proposed method is applied to IEEE-24 Reliability Test System and the results show the effectiveness of the method.
Scheme of Vector Drive System for Induction Motor without Speed Sensor

This paper describes a newly developed vector drive system without the speed sensor using theory of a flus observer and based on the field oriented vector control. The new method of speed estimation is presented to operate with the position and magnitude of the secondary flux vector which obtain to the observer md detected current. As the speed of estimation is determined to the flux and the motor constants, this method don`t need to adjust the gain of the parameter and is operated simply. On basic the derived theory for vector control, sensorless speed control system for induction motor drive is design and realized. It is determined a controllers gain and observer gain by simulation and the experiment of sensorless vector drive is realized.
A Design of the PID controller Using Wavelet Neural network

In this paper, the PID controller is constructed with a neural network and wavelet function. And the wavelet neural PID controller is adapted by choosing the values of the dilation and translation parameter of the wavelet function. Weights are adjusted by the inverse propagation algolithm. Applying this method to the position control system, its usefulness is verified from the results of experiment.
A Study on the Thermal Analysis of Induction Hooting Cooker with Finite Element Method

Recently, induction heating cooker(IH-Cooker) is very interested for high efficiency, the quickness of heating time and the convenient regulation of heating spot. In this paper, we proposed the magneto-thermal analysis of an induction heating cooker(IH-Cooker) as an efficient design, and analyzed the magnetic fold intensity inside the axisymmetric shaped cooker using three-dimensional axisymmetric finite element method(Flux2D) and the effectual heat source was obtained by ohmic losses from eddy currents induced in the cooker. Also, we presented the temperature characteristics of the IH-Cooker according to input frequency and relative permeability in stainless parts and in aluminum parts.
Characteristic analysis of the current type high frequency resonant DC - DC converter

This paper describes that the resonant tank type DC-DC converter consist of reactor and capacitor resonant tank circuit for increased the output current. This circuit configuration is composed of the resonant tank circuit used resonant capacitor and reactor and the capacitor connected in switch are a common using by resonance capacitor and ZVS(Zero Voltage Switching) capacitor. Therefore, the proposed converter can reduce a switching losses, noise, and voltage stress at turn-on and turn-on and has an advantage which is able to operating safely in load short, because DC reactor is connected with resonance reactor in order to supply a fixed current with low ripple from DC power supply. The analysis of proposed circuit uses normalized parameters and characteristic estimation is generally described the proposed circuit with the characteristics of power and output voltage etc. Also, design is based on the characteristic estmations in each step. Hence, We conform a rightfulness theoretical analysis by comparing a theoretical values and experimental values obtained from experiment.
Characteristics comparison of food parallel type high frequency resonant inverter by driving signal control method

This paper describes the load parallel type full-bridge high frequency resonant inverter can be used as power source. Output control method of proposed circuit is compared with pulse frequency modulation(PFM), pulse width modulation(PWM) and pulse phase variation(Phase-Shift). The analysis of the proposed circuit is generally described by using the normalized parameters. The principle of basic operating and the its characteristics are estimated according to the parameters such as switching frequency(

) by three driving signal patterns. Experimental results are presented to verify the theoretical analysis result. In future, Characteristics by three driving signal control method is provided as useful data in case of output control of a power supply in various fields as induction heating application, DC-DC converter etc.
A Study on the Measurements, Moldeling, and Passive Filter Application of Neutral Hormonic Currents by Field Tests

With the proliferation of nonlinear loads such as personal computer in an educational building, high neutral harmonic currents have been observed. High neutral currents in three-phase four ire distribution power systems can cause tots of harmonic problems such as overloaded neutral conductors and malfunction of protective equipment. On-site measurements of harmonic currents and voltages were made and the corresponding equivalent circuits was developed. The circuit model under study was simulated numerically and graphically through the use of the software MATLAB. Simulation results verifying the effect of a single-tuned passive filter for the neutral harmonic current reduction are presented.
A Study on the Robustness of Differential Supervisory Controller From Servo Control System

Robust control for servo control system in needed according to the highest precision of industrial automation. However, when a servo control system has an effect of disturbance, it is very difficult to guarantee the robustness of control system. As a compensation method solving this problem in this paper, Hybrid control method of Main controller(PIU)-Differential Supervisory controller is presented. Main controller is operated as a feedback controller. Differential Supervisory controller as a assistant controller is operated when state in unstable disturbance. The robust control function of Differential Supervisory controller is demonstrated by Speed control of Motor.
Input Current Ripple Improvement on Interleaved Boost Power Factor Corrector Operating in Discontinuous Current Mode

In this paper, interleaved boost converter is applied as a pre-regulator in switched mode power supply. The pre-regulator plays a role to improve power factor. Interleaved Boost Power Factor Corrector(IBPFC) can reduce input current ripple as a single voltage control loop only without inner current loop, because input current is divided each 50% by two switching devices. Each converter cell is also operated in discontinuous current mode and inductor current of each converter is discontinuous. Total input current which is composed by each converter cell is continuous current. Thus, IBPFC is able to improve input current ripple. IBPFC operating in discontinuous current mode can be classified as six modes from switching state and be carried out state space averaging small signal modeling. A control transfer function is obtained according to the modeling. Single voltage control loop is also constructed by the control transfer function. From experimental result, improvement of power factor and input current ripple are verified.
