The Development of Software for Analyzing Intensity Distribution of Luminaire

By measuring intensity distribution, it is possible to calculate all of optical characteristics of luminaire, and through it we are able to realize lighting design. On developing goniometer, development of software for analyzing and measuring of optical characteristics is needed. Software developed now by our lab. contains very useful functions to analyze optical characteristics of luminaire. Also in lighting design it can provide scientific verification of solution for fundamental issues, furthermore in lighting calculation it would be able to contribute toward providing one of the standards.
An Experimental Study of the Optimum Spatial Characteristics and Location of Photosensor for Daylight Responsive Dimming Systems

The daylight responsive dimming system, which uses daylight and automatically controls the light output of electric lighting according to the amount of 3.vailable daylight, is an energy saving system Successful performance relies on how photosensor signal can precisely represent workplace illuminance. However, it is not accurately identified due to the dynamic nature of the sun and the sky changed with respect to different seasons or time. The purpose of this research is to identify the correlation between workplace illuminance and photosensor signals, and propose an optimal location and spatial characteristics of the photosensor through experiments, which minimizes the above impacts and improve system performance.
A Study on lighting Energy Conservation in a Small Office Space with Daylight Dimming Control System

This paper presents field measurements on daylighting and electric lighting with dimming controlled systems for a small office in Seoul, Korea. And the main purpose of this study is to provide the evaluation data of lighting energy performance when a dimming system is installed. For the performance evaluation, the mock-up room(3.6x7.2x2.6[m]) was used for the actual test. The results of this study were as follows; 1) The correlation between daylight illuminance at a workplane(Ed) and the photosensor signal(Sd) was an important factor affecting the performance of daylight responsive dimming system, 2) The mock-up office space gained a sufficient workplace illuminance of 579[lux] with the dimming control system 3) About 53[%J of monthly lighting energy could be saved using the dimming control system.
Frequency Dependence of Impedance of the Grounding Grid

This paper describes the frequency dependence of the grounding impedance. In order to propose the evaluation method of the transient response of powered grounding systems, the grounding impedances were measured with varying the frequency of incoming currents by way of the variable frequency inverter and band pass filter. The magnitude and phase of the grounding impedance were analyzed in the frequency range of 20 [Hz]∼2.1[kHz]. The grounding impedance were increased with increasing the frequency of the test current. The grounding impedance at the frequency of 2[kHz] in the actual 22.9[kV] substation grounding system was approximately 3 times as large as the 60[Hz] grounding impedance. It was found that the frequency dependence of the grounding impedance is mainly subject to the inductive reactance of the grounding conductors. As a result, it is critical to determine the shape and size of grounding grid reducing the resultant inductance in grounding systems for lightning surge protection.
Optimum Design of a linear Induction Motor using Genetic Algorithm and Neural Network

In this paper, a new optimum design method is proposed for the linear induction motor(LIM). The Genetic Neural Network(GNN) is introduced in the optimum design of LIM and the simulation result is compared with the Genetic Algorithm(GA) and Neural Network(NN). The maximum thrust and trust/weight are selected as the object functions. The comparison showed that the proposed method is better than GA and NN.
A Study of Interface between Photovoltaic System and Utility Line using a Current-Source PWM Inverter based on Buck-boost topology

This paper presents a new current-source PWM inverter based on Buck-boost configuration to interface between photovoltaic system and utility line. Proposed inverter is consisted by two set of buck-boost topology, and the input inductor is designed to be operated on the discontinuous current conduction mode. So high power factor can be achieved without additional input CtUTent controller. As a result, overall system has simple structure, and it can obtain higher ac output rms voltage than the terminal voltage of the photovoltaic system without additional boosting procedure. The operational modes are theoretically analyzed, and then the validity of the proposed system was verified through simulation and experimental results using a prototype.
Development of Fault Detection Method for a Transformer Using Neural Network

This presents a fault detecting method for a power transformer based upon a neural network. To maintain a normal relay operating conditions, external winding faults of a power transformer and magnetic inrush have been tested under consideration of the EMTP/ATP software and internal faults of power transformer have been tested by the EMTP/BCTRAN software. The neural network has been evaluated by the proposed fault. Input variables of the neural network for the proposed model can be obtained from fundamental currents, restraining and operating currents. This algorithm uses back-propagation and the ratio of a restraining current and an operating current as relay input parameters. The ratio may enhance the fault detection since the restraining currents increase rapidly at external faults. The proposed detecting method has been applied to the practical relay systems for transformer protection. As a result, the proposed detecting method based on the neural network has been shown to have better characteristics.
A Study on the Analysis of Transient Overvoltages and Harmonics due to Utility STATCON Switching

The utility and many customers employ capacitor banks(STATCON so called at the utility) to help control the power factor(customers) or voltage(the utility) by supplying reactive power to inductive loads. This paper presents analysis of transient overvoltages and harmonics due to utility STATCON switching. One simple and inexpensive means of limiting the voltage magnification transient and reducing harmonics is to switch the capacitor banks on a few minutes after the STATCON has been switched. Simulation results used the EDSA software package show the effects of decreased the transient voltage and harmonic reduction at the customer. And also harmonic limits based on the well-known international harmonic standards IEEE 519 and IEC 1000 are evaluated for the customer.
EMC Performance Improvement of Distribution Automation Circuit-Breaker by Modified Installing Method of Control Cable

The goal of this paper is to improve EMC performance of circuit breaker. Circuit breaker and control cubicle are interconnected by multi control cable. Also many control cables are laid on each apparatus. These control cables are directly connected by electronic components. So control cables are very important to improve EMC performance of circuit breaker. This paper suggests installing a ground conductor in parallel(PGC) to control cables. Also this paper suggests using shielding cables as secondary cables of voltage transformer in circuit breakers, and grounding both ends of shielding. After applying suggested methods, we verified EMC performance of circuit breaker is improved.
Speaker Detection System for Video Conference

In this paper, we propose a system that detects the current speaker in multi-speaker video conference by using lip motion. First, the system detects the face and lip area of each of the speakers using face color and shape information. Then, to detect the current speaker, it calculates the change between the current frame and the previous frame. To accomplish this, we used two CCD cameras. One is a general CCD camera, the other is a PTZ camera controlled by RS-232C serial port. The result is a system capable of detecting the face of current speaker in a video feed with more than three people, regardless of orientation of the faces. With this system, it only takes 4 to 5 seconds to zoom in on the speaker from the initial image. Also, it is amore efficient image transmission system for such things as video conference and internet broadcasting because it offers a face area screen at a resolution of 320X240, while at the same time providing a whole background screen.
Loss Minimization In Distribution Systems Using Reactive Tabu Search

Network reconfiguration in distribution systems is realized by changing the status of sectiona1izing switches, and is usually done for loss minimization or load balancing in the system This parer presents an approach for loss minization in distribution systems using reactive tabu search. Tabu search attempts to determine a better solution in the manner of a greatest-descent algorithm, but it can not give any guarantee for the convergence property. Reactive tabu search can give convergence property by using reaction and escape mechanism. Therefore, it can find global optimal solution regardless of initial system configuration. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm, numerical calculations are carried out the 32 bus system models.
A Controller Design of Bilinear Systems via Iterative Method

This paper presents a controller design method of bilinear systems via iterative method. The iterative procedure with auxiliary sequences is defined in the process of constructing coupled linear time varying systems from bilinear systems. To design the feedback controller for bilinear systems with quadratic cost function, an optimization procedure is given by the representation closely related to the Riccati approach. In the simulation results, it is shown that the suggested method accomplishes the improved performance and good convergence.

This paper presents active management of feeder automation systems using active database. DAS(Distribution Automation System) has been managed for feeder automation in passive manner. Therefore, feeder automation system has to be managed by operator when feeder overloadings is detected. It may be possible for propagating the feeder overloadings area by operator's mistake. To overcome this defect, the author proposed the feeder automation technique with active manner to obtain feasible feeder reconfiguration. Active database can manage feeder automation system by data driven monitoring of events and by corresponding actions without operator's intervening. To manage feeder automation system with active manner, production rule, active rule manager are designed. And active database system architecture for feeder automation system is proposed. Test results on the KEPCO's 108 bus distribution system show that the performance is efficient and robust.
Investigation of Coring Grounding Construction by Equivalent Radius Concept

The grounding system is necessary to provide means to dissipate electric currents into the earth without exceeding any operating and equipment limits. The ground is composed of various soils and the resistivity of the soil depends on many parameters. It depends on the type of soil and varies with distance as well as with depth. Especially, soil resistivity of volcanic area such as Jeju is ve교 high and it is difficult to acquire necessary grounding resistivity. This paper introduces the efficient grounding construction using coring technique for proper grounding resistance in high resistivity area. Because it is difficult to measure the accurate resistivity of soils, their resistivities are estimated using measured value of ground resistance and equivalent radius method. Estimated resistivities are used for grounding resistance in scheduled construction region.
Power System Stabilizer Using Taylor Model

The Taylor model concept is introduced to design a controller with input and output data only. The parameters in Taylor model can be estimated using the input and output data and a controller can be designed based on Taylor model. The accuracy of Taylor model approximation can be improved by increasing the observation window and the order of Taylor model. The LQR method is applied to Taylor model to design power system stabilizers (PSS), and compared with the conventional PSS.
Planning for Operation of Dispersed Generation Systems considering Load Unbalance in Distribution Systems

This paper presents a scheme for the placement of dispersed generator systems(DGs) based on load model in unbalanced systems. Groups of each individual load model consist of residential, industrial, commercial, official and agricultural load The main idea of solving fuzzy goal programming is to transform the original objective function and constraints into the equivalent multi-objectives functions with fuzzy sets to evaluate their imprecise nature for the criterion of power loss minimization, the number or total capacity of DGs and the bus voltage deviation, and then solve the problem using genetic algorithm The method proposed is applied to IEEE 13 bus unbalanced distribution systems to demonstrate its effectiveness.
Analysis of Sensor Fault Effect in Induction Motor Drives

High performance induction motor drives are driven by two advanced control methods: vector control and direct torque control (DTC). In order to apply the control methods to the speed/position control systems, the informations on rotor speed and rotor or stator flux are required. The speed is measured by encoder, and the rotor or stator flux is estimated by using the motor parameters and measured currents. The control input generated on the basis of the information that is provided by abnormal sensors should be far from the desired value and deteriorates the overall control perfonnance. In this paper, the effects of sensor faults on the motor variables and the control performance of induction motor drives are analyzed by both theoretical approach and simulation study. The presented analysis results could be utilized for the purpose of developing a fault detection and isolation scheme in induction motor drives.
Estimation of Cavity Vibration Frequency Using Adaptive Filters for Gas Flow Measurement

In this paper, a hardware implementation of gas flow meter for accuracy improvement and saving repair costs at a field is investigated. An adaptive filter using LMS algorithms for estimating cavity vibration frequencies in noisy environments is also studied. The proposed cavity gas flow meter measures cavity sound signals in gas flow tube using microphone and signal processing systems estimate the cavity vibration frequency from the measured signal. The flow velocity and flow quantity can be calculated using the estimated cavity vibration frequency. Since cavity vibration frequency is corrupted by the environmental noise, an adaptive filter using NLMS algorithms is used for cancelling the environmental noise. Experiments using 1MS32OC32 digital signal processor are performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed system
A Study on the Thrust force and Normal force Characteristics of Linear Stepping Motor by 2D Finite Element Analysis

In the recently, the necessity of the hybrid type linear stepping motor(HLSM) of linear motion digital actuator has been increased in the various fields of the automatic control system. The HLSM is directly performed without any converting mechanism. Therefore, the HLSM is better advantaged in the efficiency and economical view than a rotary stepping motor.
