Design of LCD Backlight Unit Coupled with Micro Fresnel Lens Array

A light guided plate coupled with the micro Fresnel lens array(MFTA) is designed to improve the efficiency of the LCD backlight unit. Blazed Frenel lens and binary multi-level Fresnel lens are adapted for the MFLA. This type of MFLA can replace the prism sheet and diffuser sheet which are used for the conventional type of the LCD backlight unit. The luminance and uniformity are calculated to verify the performance of the MFLA type LCD backlight unit.
Energy Efficient Lighting Control Facilities Related to Daylight Levels

To reduce costs and address other practical concern related to architectural lighting, we have been involved in various aspects of advanced daylighting design and control. If we look toward future building trends, we see that the advanced has already successfully deployed such complex lighting control systems. This paper takes a broad view of what advanced manufacturers have done to develop energy efficient lighting control technologies such as sensors, lumen maintenance, time of day scheduling, peak demand reduction and so forth. First of all strategies, daylighting controls would also need to be commissioned to respond to the specific daylighting signature of the zone. To translate the daylight in term of the amount of energy savings, an electric lighting system is designed and automatic on-off control system integrated with the contribution of daylighting has been applied to the operating of the artificial lighting. The lighting analysis program, Lumen-Micro predicts the optimal layout of conventional fluorescent and incandescent lighting fixtures to meet the designed lighting level and calculates unit power density, which translates the demanded amount of lighting energy.
A Study on Characteristic Analysis of Single-Stage High Frequency Resonant Inverter Link Type DC-DC Converter

This paper presents a novel single-stage high frequency resonant inverter link type DC-DC converter using zero voltage switching with high power-factor. The proposed topology is integrated half-bridge boost rectifier as power factor corrector(PFC) and half-bridge high frequency resonant converter into a single-stage. The input stage of the half-bridge boost rectifier works in discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) with constant duty cycle and variable switching frequency. So that a boost converter makes the line current follow naturally the sinusoidal line voltage waveform. Simulation results have demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed high frequency resonant converter. Characteristics values based on characteristics analysis through circuit analysis is given as basis data in design procedure. Also, experimental results are presented to verify theoretical discussion. This proposed inverter will be able to be practically used as a power supply in various fields as induction heating applications, fluorescent lamp and DC-DC converter etc.
Electrochemical Study of Electrode Material of Ni-MH Battery for HEV and PEMFC Fuel Cell

Electrochemical hydrogenation/dehydrogenation properties were studied for a single particle of a Mm-based(Mm : misch metal) hydrogen storage alloy(
) for the anode of Ni-MH batteries. A carbon fiber microelectrode was manipulated to make electrical contact with an alloy particle, and the cyclic voltammetry and the galvanostatic charge/discharge experiments were performed. A single particle of the alloy showed the discharge capacity of 280[mAh/g], the value being 90[%] of the theoretical capacity. Data were compared with that of the composite film consisting of the alloy particles and a polymer binder, which is more practical form for Ni-MH batteries. Additionally, pulverization of the alloy particles are directly observed. Compared with the conventional composite film electrodes, the single particle measurements using the microelectrode gave more detailed, true information about the hydrogen storage alloy.
A Study on the Harmonics Measurement and Assessment of the Electrolyzer Loads

Heavy chemical industries have nonlinear loads including elecrolyzers. AC-DC converters are the most widely used in an elecrolysis in a chemical plant. The electrolysis consists of AC-DC converter groups connected in parallel at the DC side. The converter operations cause harmonic currents and create distortions on the sinusoidal voltage of the AC power system. This paper provides an in depth analysis on harmonics field measurement for the electrolyzer loads and harmonics assessment by the international harmonic standards IEC 61000-3-6 and IEEE 519-1992.
A Study of Interference-Free Home PLC based on the Binary ZCD Code

In this paper, a new interference-free Home CDMA-PLC(Code Division Multiple Access-Power Line Communication) system based on the binary ZCD(Zero Correlation Duration) spreading code is proposed as a key solution to overcome the previous problems. Binary ZCD spreading code sets with enlarged family sizes are generated by carrying out a chip-shift operation of the preferred pairs. The properties or the proposed ZCD-PLC systems are effective for MPI(Multi-Path Interference) and MAI (Multiple Access Interference) cancellation in the CDMA-PLC systems. By BER performance simulation, we certified the availability of proposed ZCD-CDMA-PLC system.

In this paper, We are going to propose the fire protection system using CAN(Controller Area Network). The larger, higher and deeper buildings an, the more dangerous people are when fire happens. We should be aware of the problems of prior fire protection system. Therefore, we construct the embedded system based on CAN communication that is capable of N to N communication, and build independent fire protection system. If the fire is occurred on the building, the problem is that how fast we can detect the fire and put it on by using available system, this is major factor that reduces damage of our wealth. Therefore in this studies, We would like to design more stable system than current system. This system is based on CAN communication which is available N to N communication constructs and designed to compensate for each fault, so that our aim is to reduce the wires of system, cost of installation and to suppose future type fire protection system.
Protection Effects Associated with the Conditions for the Installations of SPDs

This paper presents the protection effect of surge protective devices(SPDs) according to the conditions of installations. To propose the effective protection measures of information and communication equipments against lightning surges, actual-sized experiments in relation to the protection effects on the positions of installations of SPDs, the length of branch circuit, the wiring methods, and the materials of conduit, were conducted. The effective method of protecting information and communication equipments from lightning surges is to install SPDs in the vicinity of input terminals of each electronic equipments to be protected. The wiring method of connecting an SPD minimizing the length of leads is desirable when point-to-point wiring is to be used.
Operating Characteristics of Molded Case Circuit Breakers by Harmonic Currents

Malfunction and nuisance tripping of molded case circuit breaker(MCCB) caused by harmonic currents have been reported. But no data is available on the behavior of MCCB under harmonic currents. This paper tested the effects of harmonic currents on four common types of MCCB(thermal, thermal magnetic, magnetic and electronic types). Results of experiment detected no nuisance tripping with any of the breakers tested under test currents, included harmonic current, below rated currents. Additionally it was found that varying harmonic loading conditions did not affect manufacturer specified trip times for thermal only and thermal magnetic circuit breakers. However, under overloaded conditions, trip times of the magnetic only circuit breakers were gradually slowed according to increasing of harmonic currents, and it could cause hazardous overheating of cables. So, the use of magnetic only circuit breakers in the place harmonic currents we serious must be avoided.
Fundamental Study of Degradation Diagnosis using AE Signals with Void Discharge in XLPE Insulation

In this paper, to detect and observation the void discharges pulse signal, AE signals and tree growth characteristics in case the high voltage is applied to a XLPE sample for a power cable. We also examined the partial discharge current pulse and AE signals with the increase of the applied voltage in XLPE insulation. The experimental results show that a branch-type tree grows in the presence of the voids, and a bush-type tree grows in the absence of the voids in both samples. A rate of tree growth increases abruptly in proportional to the deterioration time in the presence of the of the voids, but in the absence of the voids, a rate of tree growth decreases as time goes by and finally a breakdown occurs. The frequency band of AE signals that are generated from the partial discharges in a XLPE sample, one of solid dielectric materials, is about 1.0[MHz].
Parametric Analysis of the Electric and Magnetic Field Waveforms Produced by Intracloud Lightning Discharges

In this study, the electric and magnetic fields measuring system were designed and fabricated to investigate the electric characteristics of lightning discharges. Frequency bandwidth of electric field measuring system ranges from 40[Hz] to 2.6[MHz] and its response characteristic is 2.1[(V/m)/mV]. Frequency bandwidth of magnetic field measuring system ranges from 300[Hz] to 1[MHz] and its response characteristic is 2.8[nT/mV]. Electric and magnetic fields due to intracloud lightning discharges were observed and their waveform parameters were statistically analyzed. As a result, waveform parameters of electric and magnetic fields are nearly independent of polarity. The mean rise times and the zero-crossing times of electric and magnetic fields are approximately
