A New End of Lamp Life Detection Method for Fluorescent Lamps

This paper presents the new detection method for the end of life on fluorescent lamps. At the end of lamp life, the lamp voltage and current asymmetrically increase and decrease more than normal state. If the ballast system does not have the protection function especially for T4 and T5 lamps, we may see the melting socket which is connected to the end of the lamp. To protect from this kind of abnormal status is the most important thing in the ballast system that has very old lamps.
Flat Fluorescent Lamp(FFL) and Analysis of Optical Efficiency of FFL Lighting

A flat fluorescent lamp (FFL) developed as a light source for LCD TV backlight was used as a light source for general lighting application and its electro-optical characteristics were measured and evaluated. The channels of FFL were formed from a flat glass at high temperature by using a mold. The performance of FFL with lighting future was shown to improve by optimizing the channel profile of FFL. In this paper, the brightness efficiency of FFL with lighting fixture was evaluated and compared with that of the hot cathode fluorescent lamp (HCFL), the major light source for general lighting. The optical efficiency of FFL with future was shown to be 72.7[1m/W].
Discharge Characteristics of Narrow Width Pulse Addressing for the High-Speed Driving of Plasma Display Panels

This study relates to a new high-speed drive method for the full-HD PDP with 1080 horizontal scanning lines. The characteristics of the new drive method is evaluated considering the characteristics of the display discharge by the high-speed addressing. In this drive method, if the width of the address pulse narrows, the relati0[V]e discharge strength and the discharge time lag of the first display discharge are received the influence of it. Though the change in the applied position of the address pulse is unrelated to the discharge strength, it influences at the discharge time lag. However, the stable display discharges can be induced regardless of the address pulse position and width if the address pulse position is within [

]. From the experiments, it has been understood that the high-speed drive technique with the address pulse of narrow width is sensitively influenced by the space charge because of the insufficiency of wall charge.
An Evaluation Method for Short-Term Ratings of Double-Circuit Overhead Transmission Lines

This paper describes an analytical method to determine the short-term ratings to reliably operate the overhead transmission lines with double-circuit lines when faulting one circuit of the two. As linearizing the thermal equilibrium equation that represents the temperature characteristic of conductors, we show that the linear equation can be easily represented the over-current and it`s temperature property during overloading the one line. Generally, it is well hewn that the short-term line ratings should be determined by considering both conductor life and dip. However, most power companies have their own different guides for the short-term ratings. Using the suggested method in this paper, it can be re-accessed the short-term ratings given in Kepco`s overhead transmission lines constructed during the past three different periods. As a result, it is verified that the short-term ratings could be increased mil efficiently. Furthermore, it would be directly applied the given method to determine the short-term dynamic line ratings when occurring faults in one of the double-circuit lines, without doing my other actions for the current lines.
Research for Implementation of Real-time Power Measurement and Storage System

According to the using of electric power source such as solar cell, fuel cell and wind energy, consumer is supplied from distributed generator and electric power company. Therefore, it is required that the real-time measurement and control instrument for those distributed generator. In this paper, describes the development of measuring equipment for the power system with distributed generator. The equipment has real-time measure function and communication with PC via USB port, which is used for various purposes such as investigation of transient state, and is compared with measurement instrument to verify the reliability.
Comparison Analysis of Soil Structure Methods for Deciding the Position of a Deeply Driven Ground Rod

Recently, there has been an increase of the use of ground system for lightning protection called deeply driven grounding electrode. In the case of deeply driven grounding electrode, the rod electrode is equipped perpendicularly and deeply, therefore, it has a benefit to have less restriction of place compared to mesh grid electrode. However, ground impedance is largely changed by the local earth resistivity, so it requires a detailed analysis of the ground structure when planning. The measurement of earth resistivity by existing Wenner`s method has been widely used, however, this method can not find out a change in the local ground resistance and it shows the result outwardly to be difficult to estimate exact depth. Therefore, this study analyzed the ground structure as 2-D image using 96 channels measurement facility and tried to analyze change in the local ground resistance and depth of the ground in order to design a deeply driven electrode effectively for lightning protection. It used Wenner alpha method dipole-dipole method and Schlumberger method for 2-D image analysis of the ground resistivity ma based on, it the result was compared with the ground structure analyzed with the result using the CDEGS and Wenner 1-D method.
A Study on the Stability of Micro-Grid System

Micro-grid consists of micro-sources which adopt environmentally friendly and reliable power sources such as Fuel-Cell and Micro-Turbines with independent real and reactive power control capability for providing premium power quality. This paper deals with the basic aspect of dynamic modeling and the stability analysis of the micro-grid system. The fundamental frequency model of the micro-source inverters are considered to form a dynamic model of the micro-grid system Stability analysis is performed based on the linearized dynamic model of the micro-grid system Case study results show the parameters affecting the stability of the micro-grid.
Linear Interrogation of Distributed Fiber Grating Temperature Sensor Network using a Fabry-Perot ITU Filter

We constructed a fiber-optic temperature sensor system using a sensor array with 15 fiber Bragg gratings for distributed temperature monitoring in electrical power systems. A polynomial fitting algorithm was used to compensate the nonlinear action of the MEMS tuneable wavelength filter used for Bragg wavelength demodulation Fixed passband wavelengths from a Fabry-Perot ITU filter were used as reference wavelengths for the fitting algorithm which obtained constant accuracy regardless of the wavelength scanning range and frequency. About 0.18[%] of linearity error compared to reference thermocouple thermometer has been obtained in the preliminary experimental results.
Various Models of Fuzzy Least-Squares Linear Regression for Load Forecasting

The load forecasting has been an important part of power system Accordingly, it has been proposed various methods for the load forecasting. The load patterns of the special days is quite different than those of ordinary weekdays. It is difficult to accurately forecast the load of special days due to the insufficiency of the load patterns compared with ordinary weekdays, so we have proposed fuzzy least squares linear regression algorithm for the load forecasting. In this paper we proposed four models for fuzzy least squares linear regression. It is separated by coefficients of fuzzy least squares linear regression equation. we compared model of H1 with H4 and prove it H4 has accurately forecast better than H1.
The Characteristics of the Discharge Lamp Type Ozonizer using Pulse Power Source for Carnation Productivity Improvement

For carnation productivity improvement, compact-low cost discharge lamp type ozonizer using pulse power source is designed and manufactured. This paper describes the discharge characteristics and the ozone generation characteristics with variation of the output voltage of pulse power source, the quantity of flowing air and the operating number of ozonizer. The important conclusions are as follows. The discharge voltage and current values are proportional to the output voltage of pulse power source. The ozone concentration and generation are proportional to the output voltage of pulse power source and the number of ozonizer. The maximum value of the ozone concentration and generation of the discharge lamp type ozonizer can be obtained 890[ppm] and 59.7[mg/h] respectively. In the carnation productivity house, when the discharge lamp type ozonizer is used the carnation is good quality in the uniformity of the carnation stalk thickness and increased the productivity through improvement of the air and the soil.
Development of Artificial Diagnosis Algorithm for Dissolved Gas Analysis of Power Transformer

IEC code based decision nile have been widely applied to detect incipient faults in power transformers. However, this method has a drawback to achieve the diagnosis with accuracy without experienced experts. In order to resolve this problem, we propose an artificial diagnosis algorithm to detect faults of power transformers using Self-Organizing Feature Map(SOM). The proposed method has two stages such as model construction and diagnostic procedure. First, faulty model is constructed by feature maps obtained by unsupervised learning for training data. And then, diagnosis is performed by compare feature map with it obtained for test data. Also the proposed method usぉms the possibility and degree of aging as well as the fault occurred in transformer by clustering and distance measure schemes. To demonstrate the validity of proposed method, various experiments are unformed and their results are presented.
A Study on the Development of Super Low-loss Type Pole Transformer Using the Hybrid Insulation

The pole transformer is one of the most important facility to insure the stability of electric power supply. which distributes electricity to customers directly. However there are a lot of defects which are caused by manufacturing fails(in 3 years) or deterioration (in 13 years), so we need a more improved transformer which insures quality. This thesis talks about the development of the new-type transformer using the hybrid insulation that is durable thermally, mechanically, and electrically. It would show how to lay out and produce the transformer using the hybrid insulation. And finally we are sure that we could increase the utilization rate of a transformer by 160% as compared with its own capacity through the overload test. Also, we carried out the examination about the short-circuit and insulation with a 100[kVA] model transformer, so that we expound the analysis of magnetic-mechanical forces intensity and the measure for improving short-circuit efficiency.
A Program for Short-Circuit Capacity Calculations of Low-Voltage Circuit using the VISUAL BASIC

With the recent expansion of electric capacity, troubles in the electric system threatening the stable electricity supply are rapidly increasing. However, most of the current short-circuit capacity calculations have been made manually. This research focuses on the development of a program which uses the Visual Basic. We can obtain the stability in the system diagram and the reliability of the loaded facilities by calculating an exact breaking capacity for each electric facility with this method. We expect that this research can be widely used for the design and construction of the electric facilities in the future.
Application of Neural Network Self Adaptative Control System for A.C. Servo Motor Speed Control

Neural network is used in many fields of control systems currently. However, It is not easy to obtain input-output pattern when neural network is used for the system of a single feedback controller and it is difficult to get satisfied performance with neural network when load changes rapidly or disturbance is applied. To resolve these problems, this paper proposes a new mode to implement a neural network controller by installing a real object in place of activation function of Neural Network output node. As the Neural Network self adaptive control system is designed in simple structure neural network input-output pattern problem is solved naturally and real tin Loaming becomes possible through general back propagation algorithm. The effect of the proposed Neural Network self adaptive control algorithm was verified in a test of controlling the speed of a A.C. servo motor equipped with a high speed computing capable DSP (TMS320C32) on which the proposed algorithm was loaded.
Hybrid Simulation Model of Multi-Phase Brushless AC Motor

The emf of a permanent magnet multi-phase BLAC(Brushless AC) motor is generally a non-sinusoidal or a non-ideal trapezoid wave. So, conventional modeling using a sinusoidal or an ideal trapezoid emf can result in errors to simulate and analyze the properties of a multi-phase BLAC motor. To reduce the modeling error, this paper proposes a phase variable model, which is obtained from a hybrid modeling technique consisting of Finite Element Analysis(FEA) based circuits and equations. Since the phase model parameters including the emf waveform were obtained using FEA, the proposed hybrid modeling technique can be used to implement a simulation model for multi-phase BLAC motors with any emf voltage waveforms. Adequacy of the proposed model was established from the simulation and experimental results for a seven-phase BLAC motor.
Economic Analysis of High-Efficiency Production Facilities using Capital Recovery Factor

This paper is about the economic analysis of the replacement of electric facilities in the production facilities. As the interest of energy is increasing, the efficiency of facilities become more important. So, in this paper, we diagnosed facilities, especially electric motors, in the plant and calculated the operating efficiency, power loss with the load factor. And when we replace these facilities into high-efficiency motors, we also calculated new energy efficiency, energy loss and economic analysis through capital recovery factor. As a result, we economically proved that using high-efficiency motor is more beneficial than using non-high-efficiency motors in the model process.
