Modeling and Simulation for Development of Self-Oscillation Ballast of Endura Electrodeless lamp

Characteristics of electrodeless lamp as a load of the ballast are different compared to normal fluorescent lamp because the lame includes an inductance due to coupling magnetics for inductive discharging process. This increased parameter makes the development of self-oscillation type ballast more complex and time consuming. Practical simulation method for an easy design of self-oscillation type ballast especially for Endura lamp, is presented by using a model and various analysis of simulation. Results of experiment are given for a verification of proposed method.

Use of various lighting simulation software has been increased Lighting simulation software can be categorized into two types. One is for optical design while the other is for estimation and analysis of lighting design. Photopia 2.0 is typical software for optical design of a luminare and Lumen-micro 2000, Relux 2006, Lightscape 3.2 and AGI 32 are software for lighting design. Through using various lighting simulation software some different results can be found under the same conditions. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to compare measured and simulated photometric data of different types of luminaires and to compare simulated values from Lumen-micro 2000, Relux 2006, Lightscape 3.2 and AGI 32 under the same conditions. In addition, the reasons for such differences are analyzed.
Analysis and Design of the ignitor for Metal Halide Lamp driven by Full-Bridge Inverter

A high ignition voltage is required to turn on the metal halide discharge(MHD) lamp. The igniter with high frequency resonance circuit needs more devices, such as sidac, arc-gab, SCR(silicon control rectifier), DIAC and so of which increase the complexity and decrease the reliability of the ignitor. This paper analyzes and designs a simple LC resonance type igniter without any extra switch devices. Moreover, the igniter will not influence the steady-state operation of the lamp. Through the mathematical analysis, the computer simulation and experiment results of a prototype ballast for 1[kW] metal halide lamp(MHL) lamp, the proposed igniter was verified to be effective.

A novel priming discharge technique in which the ramp shaped priming pulse is superposed on the sustain period so that the entire plasma display panel (PDP) is discharged at the same time with a single drive circuit is proposed. From the experimental results, it is ascertained that the priming discharge is ignited only in a pixel in which sustain discharge does not occur and it has been understood that the priming pulse hardly influences the sustain discharge. Moreover, high-speed driving with address pulse widths of 0.7[
] was achieved and a wide address voltage margin of 40[V] was obtained by using the drive method applied the proposed priming discharge technique. In these results, full-HDTV PDP with 1080 horizontal scanning lines can be driven without decreasing the brightness and the possibility of the commercializing is also high because this technology is designed for using the commercialized driver IC.

This paper presents a methodology on the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) to calculate unified power quality index which provide an overall assessment of the distribution system performance. To obtain the unified power quality index. we propose the use of the AHP model and consider contingency using Monte Carlo simulation. The proposed method is especially useful and effective for planning. We have applied the proposed method to an actual relatively large system.

In this paper, the Sliding Mode Controller is applied to reduce the starting current of the single phase induction motor. The input voltage to the single phase induction motor is controlled so that the starting current of the motor may be maintained within the rating value and the velocity is also controlled, by adjusting the switching function of the Sliding Mode Controller. The switching of sliding control made appropriately with regard to velocity error signal and acceleration signal. It is shown that the starting characteristics of the single phase induction motor(SPIM) can be greatly enhanced through the sliding control of single phase induction motor.

This paper is proposed a novel method that computed approximately maximum power of photovoltaic system and solar tracking method. Proposed novel is linear reoriented coordinates method(LRCM), this paper is proposed new mathematical dynamic model using LRMC and DC dynamic equation. LRCM has the advantage that is decreased calculating time, decides optimal voltage and maximum power that generates continually. Furthermore solar tracking method is improved over 50[%] photovoltaic efficiency than fixed method. This paper is proposed MPPT using LRCM and solar tracking method using program method that is adequate domestic conditions, prove verify of proposed method through experiment.

The electrical accident results from an insulation blackdown by over-voltage, an overheating by the excess of allowable current, a deterioration performance by the passage of time, and so on. This paper discusses how to improve the power control system of PCB in water purifier. The protecting device of present power supply control system in water purifier is composed of the varistor device which acts only for impulse-type surges. So the present system can not be protected others except the surge of impulse-type. The newly-suggested power control system in this paper is designed to protect the system by disconnecting power supply through SSR(Solid State Relay) if the value of input voltage is exceeded the setting value.
A Development of on Auto Inspection System for Automotive Valve-Seal using Standalone Vision

In this study, an inspection system for valve seal of automotive parts using standalone vision has been developed and presented. The system is comprised of eight CCD cameras, and mechanism that loads the automotive parts to the system for the inspection. An image processing algorithm for detecting two different types of defects of valve seals are developed and the effectiveness of the algorithm is experimentally verified. Inspection process is completed in 0.7 second with acceptable accuracy condition. It is envisaged that this inspection system will have a wide application in the automotive part manufacturing industry in the future.
An Improvement Scheme of Direct Load Control Program for Electric Power Demand Management

This paper proposes the scheme to improve the current direct load control(DLC) program by inspecting the problems of the DLC program. In order to increase the number of the customers participating DLC program, a reduction of the base incentive and an increase of the direct load control incentive are suggested based on the interruption cost of electric power considering the characteristics of load types and the introduction of demand side bidding is recommended. Secondly, the standards of power system operations is required to control DLC program efficiently for the penalty, interruption times, the number of interrupting loads, notice time for the load interruption and the periods of the DLC program contract.
A Study on the Effect Analysis Influenced on the Advanced System of Moving Object

In this paper, we analyzed the mr detection and the stability of the object tracking system by an adaptive stereo object hacking using region-based MAD(Mean Absolute Difference) algorithm and the modified PID(Proportional Integral Derivative)-based pan/tilt controller. That is, in the proposed system, the location coordinates of the target object in the right and left images are extracted from the sequential stereo input image by applying a region-based MAD algorithm and the configuration parameter of the stereo camera, and then these values could effectively control to pan/tilt of the stereo camera under the noisy circumstances through the modified PID controller. Accordingly, an adaptive control effect of a moving object can be analyzed through the advanced system with the proposed 3D robot vision, in which the possibility of real-time implementation of the robot vision system is also confirmed.
A Method for Reducing the Residual Voltage of Hybrid SPD Circuit Using Choke Coil

Gas Discharge Tubes (GDTs) are widely used as surge protectors for communication applications due to their small internal capacitance. In these days, however, they are mostly used in combined configurations, because the sparkover voltage required to initiate the discharge process in the GDTs and the time taken for arc formation process can be large enough to damage to sensitive circuits. For GDTs with a considerably high initial residual voltage, we should limit the peak voltage using a TVS or filter. We made a hybrid SPD circuits of common-mode type and differential-mode type with the filter using common-mode choke. Also, we applied lightning impulse voltage and ring wave voltage which frequency bandwidth are different each other and verified the characteristics of hybrid SPD circuits according to waveshapes. We describe how the applied SPDs operate in protection process steps with the actual data obtained from the residual voltage measurement at each step. The experiment results show that the surge voltage reduction with the choke coil is more effective in differential-mode circuit than in common-mode circuit.
Improvement of Simultaneous Quench Characteristic of Flux-Lock Type Superconducting Fault Current Limiters Through Its Series Connection

To apply the flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) into power system, its current and voltage ratings are required to increase. Especially, in case of series connection of SFCLs, the countermeasure for simultaneous quenches must be considered. The structure, which each flux-lock type SFCL unit was wound in series on the same iron core, can induce the simultaneous quench of superconducting elements. Through the fault current limiting experiment for the suggested structure, it was confirmed that the even voltage burden among the superconducting elements comprising SFCLs could be made.

The flux-lock type SFCL consists of transformer with primary and secondary windings connected to a superconducting element in serial. It can be divided into the subtractive and the additive polarity windings according to the winding direction. It could change the fault current limiting characteristics according to the inductance ratio between the coil 1 and coil 2. We investigated the voltage-current characteristics of the flux-lock type SFCL according to the increment of applied voltage. When the applied voltage of the SFCL with the subtractive and the additive polarity windings was increased a initial limiting current (
) and the quench time of the superconducting element were increased. The recovery time of the superconducting element was increased by increment of applied voltage. Therefore, it was confirmed that recovery characteristics in the flux-lock type SFCL were largely dependent on the consumed energy of a superconducting element because of increment of the consumption power into the superconducting element.
Hazards and Solutions of Loss of the PEN Conductor in TN-C-S System

This paper presents the electric shock hazards and solutions of loss of the combined protective and neutral (PEN) conductor in TN-C-S system. In order to mitigate the touch voltage on exposed-conductive-parts in a break in the PEN conductor, the touch voltages on exposed-conductive-parts in a break in the PEN conductor were experimentally investigated as a function of the ground resistances of the source grounding electrode and customer`s additional grounding electrode. As a result, the equipotential bonding is one of important requirements for installations supplied by TN-C-S system. A solution of mitigating the touch voltages on exposed-conductor-parts caused by a loss of the PEN conductor would be the installation of the additional grounding electrode at the customer`s service entrance. The ground resistance of additional grounding electrode necessary to limit the touch voltage to a safety voltage of less than 50[V] depends on the load and circuit parameters. In addition, the undervoltage sensing devices oner affordable solutions to detect a loss of the PEN conductor in TN-C-S system.
A study on the Development of the Shell-type Pole Transformer Using the Zig-Zag Winding

In this thesis, we would show how to lay out and produce the shell-type transformer using the world`s first Zig-Zag winding way, instead of a general winding. Also, we omit the progress of varnish-impregnation, so that we could develop the new shell-type transformer winding which improves the short-circuit characteristics and dielectric strength. It has a copernican effect to reduce the thickness and the number of insulation papers, as compared with a general winding transformer. We would prove that it is far superior in cost reduction, loss reduction, and mechanical force of short-circuit. And eventually you must find it useful in the pole transformer for power distribution in the domestic power companies.
The Accident Hazards and Properties of the Surface Leakage Current on the Polymer Insulation caused by Salt-water and Dust

It is necessary to study on the prevention and the management of electrical facilities because the electrical fault took place at the dust occurrence area due to environmental pollution. In particular, the dust accumulates easily on insulation material which is exposed an external long time. Therefore, we measured surface leakage current and surface variation of insulation material due to the dust and salt-water. From the results, the surface of bakelite is bad effect for salt-water than other material. The surface leakage current increases by repeated salt-water pollution and the surface of material is carbonized with arc occurrence. Also, it is need to variation of surface coating and shape of material to repress a leakage current on electrical material.
A Study of Improvement on the Quickness of Current controller for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

A improved current controller with reference modification part that has both fast transient response in transient state and high accuracy in steady state is proposed. In this scheme, a improved reference modification part is used to synchronous frame PI controller for the fast transient state. The transient response of current controller is seriously deteriorated in high back e.m.f.(electromotive force) due to the lack of DC link control voltage. This paper is proposed that the improved reference modification part is compared with voltage limit and reference voltage.
Research on Characteristics of Arcing Circuit and Evaluation of Societal Cost caused by AFCI Installation

As usage of electric power is increased, the electric fire accident occurrences are growing, too. According to statistics it can be known that electric fire occupies the most weight. However, the method that can detect electric fire accurately is not being developed yet. This paper analyzes the cause of electric fire and the characteristics of Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter(AFCI). First this paper compares AFCI with existing molded-case circuit breaker and finds the hazards caused by arc through power calculation and compares with danger by short circuit. And we suggest the necessity of AFCI through studying relationship of AFCI installation and societal cost.
A study on Performance Improvement of SPMSM with Improved Decoupling Current Controller

This paper proposes a improved decoupling current control algorithms using a compensator to enhance the robustness to the stator inductance error. And the compensator composed from a d-axis current error for sensing change of the real stator inductance can match the estated stator inductance to the real stator inductance. A great advantage of this algorithms is more robust than feedforward decoupling current control or dynamic decoupling control. So it looks suitable to the practical applications where the exact parameters are unknown. Though simulation and experimental results with 1[kW] prototype PMSM and TMS320F2812 board for motor control, we show that the proposed controller achieves the desired performance.
