Implementation of o Novel WDMX Controller for LED Lights

This paper describes the proposal, design, and implementation of a novel WDMX controller which can provide versatile light effects with the increased capability of the mobility and the number of universes for LED lights. Both the algorithm for DMX protocol and how to implement the frame based on a 8bit micro-controller are explained. The conversion algorithm between the DMX frame and wireless LAN 802. 11b protocol stack is introduced and implemented. In final, some experiments are made to verily the interoperability of the developed WDMX controller with a commercial product of LED lights. 최대 9,999 staves with 30 refresh rate per second may have capability to show various light effects.
Discharging Voltage Control with Error Detecting for Search light of Ship

This paper presents a stable lighting method for HID lamp for ship from initial discharging current limit with discharging voltage control. The output voltage of the proposed control scheme is boosted for ignition, and the charging voltage is decreased by the resistor discharging. The proposed controller fires the initial discharge at the designed discharging voltage to limit the discharge current. After the discharging, constant current controller is used for brightness in steady state. The proposed control scheme can limit the initial discharge current using the starting point control without a complex voltage controller. so it can improve the life-time of HID lamp and get a stable discharge from restricted the initial discharge current. In order to improve the protection of the system, a simple instantaneous error detecting circuit for open state and short state of HID lamp is used. The proposed error detecting of HID lamp can protect the power system of lamp control. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified from the experiments of practical 2.5[kW] HID search light for ship.

The electricity demand in Korea has rapidly increased along with a steady economic growth since 1970s. Therefore Korea has positively propelled not only SSM(Supply-Side Management) but also DSM(Demand-Side Management) activities to reduce investment cost of generating units and to save supply costs of electricity through the enhancement of whole national energy utilization efficiency. However study for rebate, which have influence on success or failure on DSM program, is not sufficient. This paper executed to modeling mathematically an amount of potential participants considering rebates, which have influence on penetration amounts for DSM program using by `A Survey of End-User for Energy Efficiency Demand Side Management Programs`.

Optimal design of the direct-driven PM Wind Generator, combined with DEAS(Dynamic Encoding Algorithm for Searches) and FEM(Finite Element Method), has been proposed to maximize the Annual Energy Production(AEP) over the whole wind speed characterized by the statistical model of wind speed distribution. In particular, DEAS contributes to reducing the excessive computing time for the optimization process.
Development of an Inspection Box for a Guard Lamp with an Automatic Switch

In this paper, a device for safety inspection of a guard lamp with an automatic switch which has been recently employed in some local autonomous entities was developed. It is technically enhanced by installing a separate inspection box down below, which allows the inspectors can measure the leakage current, the sound function of the electric leakage breaker(ELB), the insulation resistance and the grounding resistance, on the ground. This inspection box makes the inspectors free from the electric shock by being designed to minimize the potential direct contact with the energized terminals. The deliverables of this paper are expected to contribute to carry out the inspection for the guard lamps safely and effectively.
Three-Phase Z-Source Dynamic Voltage Restorer with a Fuel Cells Source

This paper proposes a three-phase Z-source dynamic voltage restorer (Z-DVR) to mitigate the voltage sag for the critical loads. The proposed system is composed of passive filter and Z-source topology inverter. As an ESS(Energy Storage System) of the proposed system is employed the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC). To calculate and control the harmonics and compensation voltage,
theory in dq rotating reference frame and PI controller are used. In case that three-phase voltage sags occurred, a PSIM simulation was done for the performance comparison of the conventional method employed battery stacks and proposed method. As a result, considering the voltage compensation performance, each method was nearly similar. Also, the compensation performance and the %THD(%Total Harmonic Distortion) result under the various source voltage conditions (sag or swell) were presented and discussed to show the performance of the proposed system.
Evaluation of life Expectancy of Power System Equipment Using Probability Distribution

This paper presents a novel evaluation method of life expectancy of power system equipment. The life expectancy means expected remaining lifetime; it can be usefully utilized to maintenance planning, equipment replacement planning, and reliability assessment. The proposed method is composed of three steps. Firstly, a cumulative probability for future years is evaluated for targeted age year. Secondly, the cumulative probability is modeled by well-blown cumulative distribution function(CDF) such as Weibull distribution. Lastly, life expectancy is evaluated as the mean value of the model. Since the model CDF is established in the proposed method, it can also evaluate the probability of equipment retirement within specific years. The developed method is applied to examples of generators of combined cycle power plants to show its effectiveness.
Calculation of the Harmonic Emission Limit for low-Voltage Electrical Equipment

Because the harmonic disturbance characteristic which makes voltage drop and the deterioration of instantaneous power quality in electrical power system overheats the NGR and the customer capacitor and malfunctions the OCGR and AMR, it is necessary for electric power company to take active measures to reduce this disturbance. International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC) 61000-3-2 specifies limits for harmonic current emissions generated by low voltage(LV) electrical equipment whose input current
16(A) per phase. Analysis shows that limits for Class A equipment in IEC are calculated using the reference impedance of LV system and maximum permissible voltage and limits for other Classes are also calculated based on limits for Class A. Therefore we have calculated four(4) internal limits for LV electrical equipment using the korea reference impedance and maximum permissible voltage in this paper.
Transient Grounding Impedance Behaviors of Deeply-driven Ground Rods According to the Injection Point of Impulse Currents

This paper presents the transient and conventional grounding impedance behaviors of deeply-driven ground rods associated with the injection point of impulse currents. The transient grounding impedance strongly depends on the length of deeply-driven ground rod and the rise time and injection point of impulse currents, and the intrinsic inductance of ground rod has a significant affect on the transient grounding impedance of grounding system in fast rise time ranges. The reduction of inductance is decisive to improve the impulse impedance behaviors of deeply-driven ground rods. It is effective that grounding conductor is connected to the top of the ground rod as short as possible.
A Study on Algorithm Robust to Error for Estimating partial Discharge Location using Acoustic Emission Sensors

This paper presents an algorithm robust to error for estimating partial discharge (PD) location using acoustic emission sensors. In operating transformers, the velocity computing of the acoustic signal is difficult because the temperature of the Insulation oil is not homogeneous. So, some error occurs in the process. Therefore, the algorithm estimating PD location must consider this error to provide maintenance person with useful information. The conventional algorithm shows the PD position as a point, while the new algorithm using LookUp-Table(LUT) shows PD position as error-map visually. The error-map is more useful than the conventional result because of robustness to error. Also, we compared performance of them, by adding error to data on purpose.

The neutral current is made of both the load unbalanced current and the 3rd harmonic. The 3rd harmonic which is the source of the main neutral current is generated from the loads using bridge rectifier circuits on their input produce currents. TV, computer and monitor which are belong to IEC 61000-3-2 Class D are the main 3rd harmonic current sources. In order to show the affect of the distribution system by these disturbances, this paper has studied the current standards of the Korea Electric and considers the problem of the neutral common.
Surge Protection Method of the Underground Distribution System in Korea

This paper deals with the part of the surge protection method of the underground distribution system in Korea using arrestors by simulating with ATP-EMTP(Electro-Magnetic Transient Program) based on the "A Study on the Surge Propagation Property of Underground Distribution Cables by Field Tests" which was published in 2007. Although domestic underground distribution system is protected by arrester which installed at a riser pole, we need to additional protection method because lightning surge can be doubled and affect underground distribution facilities when it is injected into the mixed distribution line of overhead and underground through a riser pole. In this paper, it is proposed that scout method that arresters are attached to the sides of a riser pole is better than developing of a elbow arrester on a viewpoint of economics and maintenance, because of the situation of the domestic underground distribution system.
A Study on the Contamination Criterion Map of Seashore Areas in Korea

The objective of this study is to establish the algorithm for contamination criterion map based on the recent weather condition. Present criterion was established by the study on the countermeasure of salt contamination for electrical equipment. It did not represent recent weather condition. Therefore it is necessary to develop a contamination criterion map for assessment of contamination in design areas in Korea. To develop contamination criterion map of seashore areas, we used relational numerical formula based on past measurement data with the amount of rainfall, geomorphic variables(elevation slope, land use). These results are expected to be used as a reference material for design distribution facilities in seashore areas.
A Study on low-Cost Sensorless Drive of Brushless DC Motor for Compressor Using Random PWM

Recently, it is increased to apply sensorless drive for BLDC (Brushless DC) motor to household electrical appliances, especially in the refrigerators and air conditioners, to reduce the cost and the acoustic noise by the operation and to make their functions more comfortable for human beings. In this paper, low-cost sensorless drive for BLDE motor is implemented by random PWM (Pulse Width Modulation). The experimental results show that the electromagnetic noise was reduced and the sound quality was improved by BLDC motor sensorless random PWM Control.

Desire about agreeable habitat by enhancement of standard of living has been increased, and common complaints by transformer noise have been happening constantly. It has been installed resonator and sound-proof shutter in order to solve substation`s noise problems. But those methods are not effective. Therefore, It is necessary to study transformer noise level that can satisfy noise regulation standard. In this paper described that predicted transformer noise level of substation boundary by operating situation at the indoor substation. Also, Presented most suitable noise level of transformer that satisfy noise regulation standard at the indoor substations through predicted results.
Countermeasure on the Suppression of Micro Surge and Noise for a Induction Motor Driven by Commercial Inverter

Generally, speed control for Induction motor widely used in industrial field is accomplished by commercial inverter. Induction motor driven by commercial inverter causes the micro surge voltage because of high speed switching of inverter. Micro surge brings about not only the breakdown of motor but also noise in PLC control system. And they court the enormous interference in activity for production. In this paper, we suggest the suppressible countermeasure for the breakdown of motor after the consideration of productive mechanism about micro surge. Experiment is performed by inverter with LCR filler in its output terminal. As a result, we confirmed that micro surge voltage is reduced. And the suppressible countermeasure for the noise of PLC control system is suggested by theoretical consideration.

The outages of transmission lines give big damages to the industrial world Lightning outages occupy above 50[%] among the outages of transmission lines. To decrease the lightning outage rates, it is necessary to try countermeasures considering economical points. For the lightning protection of power transmission lines, it is very important to accurately predict the lightning outage rate because the reliability criterion for transmission line is normally specified as the number of flashovers per 100[km] per year. The phenomenon of an insulator flashover by a lightning stroke is a very complex electromagnetic event. And to calculate the lightning outage rates of transmission lines, so many calculation should be repeated because there are many overhead lines and power lines. Therefore it is necessary to develope a program for it. In this paper, we briefly introduce the basic concept for lightning outage calculation algorithm and the program.

In this paper an Investigation into the actual condition of electrical equipments installation & management and check the problem of application to IEC60364 in korea construction by the electrical installation technical regulation. building equipments by the electrical installation technical regulation are almost same TT system but the electrical installation technical regulation does not contact with protective conductor(PE conductor). This study derive a problem and resent the solving method of problem causing does not fully understand of IEC60364, mix electrical installation technical regulation and IEC60364 by the actual condition of electrical equipments installation & management in korea.
Improvement of Welding Performance of MIG Arc Welding using Superposition Ac Pulse

Because aluminum has a lighter weight and higher strength than iron, it is frequently used in the transportation industry for the purpose of reducing the weight of a chassis, and thereby increasing fuel efficiency. However, there are some difficulties with arc welding aluminum due to its lower melting point, high thermal conductivity and oxidation coating on its surface. This study proposed using superposition ac pulse MIG arc welding, which has been improved from the pulse waveform of conventional MIG welding. A MIG arc welding power source was developed to test the effectiveness of this method.
