Comparison on the lighting environment of living room between China and Korea : Comparative study on the lighting environment of houses in Korea and China 1

To compare the lighting environment of the living rooms in the apartments in Korea and China, this research conducted a study of the current status, targeting 79 households in Korea and 68 households in China. The results are the following. First, the two nations use mostly fluorescent light as the general lighting for the living room. China, in particular, share of not using the local lighting is very high. Secondly, levels of illumination was measured. The result demonstrates that the brightness of the lighting is higher in Korea compared to China while China demonstrates higher uniformity ratio for the levels of illumination compared to Korea. However, levels of illumination in general are very low in China. Thus, it cannot be concluded that China offers favorable lighting environment. Third, study on the degree of living room lighting's brightness and satisfaction level demonstrates that they are both average in Korea and China. As for the important points for the house lighting, most Koreans cited 'brightness of the lighting' while most Chinese said 'ease of maneuvering'.
Design of T-S Fuzzy Model based Adaptive Fuzzy Observer and Controller

This paper proposes the alternative observer and controller design scheme based on T-S fuzzy model. Nonlinear systems are represented by fuzzy models since fuzzy logic systems are universal approximators. In order to estimate the unmeasurable states of a given unknown nonlinear system, T-S fuzzy modeling method is applied to get the dynamics of an observation system. T-S fuzzy system uses the linear combination of the input state variables and the modeling applications of them to various kinds of nonlinear systems can be found. The proposed indirect adaptive fuzzy observer based on T-S fuzzy model can cope with not only unknown states but also unknown parameters. The proposed controller is based on a simple output feedback method. Therefore, it solves the singularity problem, without any additional algorithm, which occurs in the inverse dynamics based on the feedback linearization method. The adaptive fuzzy scheme estimates the parameters and the feedback gain comprising the fuzzy model representing the observation system. In the process of deriving adaptive law, the Lyapunov theory and Lipchitz condition are used. To show the performance of the proposed observer and controller, they are applied to an inverted pendulum on a cart.
Two Paralleled Four Quadrant DC Chopper for Gradient Coil Magnetic Fields in MRI System

This paper presents a two-paralleled four quadrant DC chopper type PWM power conversion circuit in order to generate a gradient magnetic field in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system. This circuit has 8-IGBTs at their inputs/outputs to realize further high-power density, high speed current tracking control, and to get a low switching ripple amplitude in a controlled current in the Gradient Coils (GCs). Moreover, the power conversion circuit has to realize quick rise/fall response characteristics in proportion to various target currents in GCs. It is proposed in this paper that a unique control scheme can achieve the above objective DSP-based control system realize a high control facility and accuracy. It is proved that the new control system will greatly enlarge the diagnostic target and improve the image quality of MRI.
Study of Permanent Magnet Optimum Design on the Permanent Magnet assisted-Synchronous Reluctance Motor

Average torque of PMa-SynRM(Permanent Magnet-assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motor) is changed by magnet form inserted to the barrier. Because the magnet structure inserted to the barrier influences to the magnet-torque and reluctance torque. Therefore, this paper present a suitable permanent magnet form design for maximum torque when the magnet quantites are always fixed. And each motor characteristic such as average torque, torque ripple, cogging torque and back-EMF are analyzed by FEM(Finite Element Method) for optimal design.

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system has been used for remote measurement and control on the critical infrastructures as well as modem industrial facilities. As cyber attacks increase on communication networks, SCADA network has been also exposed to cyber security problems. Especially, SCADA systems of energy industry such as electric power, gas and oil are vulnerable to targeted cyber attack and terrorism Recently, many research efforts to solve the problems have made progress on SCADA network security. In this paper, flexible key distribution concept is proposed for improving the security of SCADA network using Multiagent System (MAS).
A Study on Constructing Common Database for Supporting Urban Rail Transit Project

A variety of Urban Rail Transit (URT) systems have been operating and they have different technology bases, causing a lot of difficulties in taking measures against trouble, training, upgrading, interoperability and so on. As such, a standardization project has been carried out to solve the problems by setting up the national standards for URT systems. A common database was built to provide the integrated engineering environment to the community of URT project. This paper discusses the design of the database and how it can be utilized in the successful promotion of the project. The products of the projects are stored into the database with traceability management to be referred to by other new URT projects for reusing and sharing the acquired knowledge through cross organizations.
A Study on the Assignment of the Vibration Classes to the Power Transformers in Operation (154[kV])

High reliability is essential for power transformers, and their fault causes are reportedly more related to mechanical causes than electrical ones. The transformer soundness judgment currently depends only on the electrical insulation characteristic and the chemical test of the insulation oil, so that there are few fundamental measures against the frequent mechanical damages and failures in transformers. The mechanical soundness judgment techniques are conducted through processes that include structural analysis and vibration resistance treatment during the manufacturing process of each manufacturer, but the vibration is not tested during the design, manufacturing, and operating processes since there are no detailed technical standards and procedures on the vibration problem, which are important in terms of maintenance. Therefore, in this study, vibration phenomena were measured from the 32 power transformers in operation in the substations under the Daejeon Power Transmission District Office of the Korean Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). The vibration was measured at 24 sections (
) on one side, and only the maximum values were selected from the measured vibration values. This was because the maximum vibration values more significantly affect the soundness of the transformer than the average vibration values. The vibration classes were given considering the maximum vibration based on ISO 10016-1 (2001).
A Microgrid Operation based on a Power Market Environment

A Microgrid is a private small-scale power system composed of distributed energy resources (DERs), storage devices and loads. And it is expected that the Microgrid will come into wide use in the near future. For this, the establishment of the Microgrid operation methodology is a very important problem. Especially, the Microgrid is greatly different from existing private small-scale power systems because of the multiple participants. Therefore, the Microgrid operation considered various requirements according to multiple participants is more complicated than the operation of existing private small-scale power systems. In this paper, Microgrid operation methodology based on a market environment is suggested. Through case studies, the effectiveness of the suggested methodology is verified.
A Speed Control of Stepping Motor Using a Self-Tuning Regulator

In this paper, a self-tuning regulator for a speed control of a permanent magnet type stepping motor is proposed. The self-tuning theory provides a nonlinear modeling of a stepping motor drive system and can provide the controller with information regarding the reference variation and parameter variation of the stepping motor through the on-line estimation. The proposed self-tuning regulator organize the positive feedback loop and IP(Integral-Proportional) type. Therefore, the proposed self-tuning regulator has a robust control capabilities during dynamic operation. The availability of the proposed controller is verified through experimental results.
A Study on the Reliability of the Distribution Automation System for the Lightning Effect

In today's competitive power market, electric power utilities have strived to provide energy at an acceptable level of quality due to increased expectations from customers. For this reason, electric power utilities have invested in electric equipment and new techniques. That is the Distribution Automation System (DAS). A merit of DAS is the ability to reduce outage time because of fast service restoration. However, DAS is usually installed in outdoor environments. Therefore, their efficiency is affected by the external conditions. Lightning creates varying degrees of physical stress on DAS. This paper focuses on the reliability of DAS for lightning. Four application studies were performed to compare the reliability indices.
Power Control modeling and Simulation of Hybrid Power System for Building Microgrid Connected Application

In this paper, we propose to study the possibility of using a photovoltaic system combined with a high speed micro-turbine. This hybrid system can work as stand-alone system or grid connected system as it will be a part of a micro-grid. Initially, we propose Matlab/Simulink dynamic models of photovoltaic, micro turbine systems and supercapacitor. Then, we carry out a simulation comparison of the two systems, this is, with supercapacitor and without supercapacitor bank. We show that supercapacitor bank as short-term storage device was necessary to reduce the fast fluctuation of power in the case of sensitive loads. It is verified the simulation results of Matlab/Simulink based hybrid power system represent the effectiveness of the suggested hybrid power system.
Tracking Control Method of a Step Motor for a Bilateral Symmetric Trainer

This paper poses tracking control and torque control methods to reduce torque ripple for bilateral symmetric trainers. As opposed to the conventional method, the torque control method for active joint movement is proposed. Using a step motor (PK296-03b, step angle:
), a simulator for a bilateral symmetric trainer is created, and the effectiveness of the proposed control method is verified through experiment results.
