A Study on Inactivation of E.coli Through 368.6[nm] UV Irradiation Lamp

Disinfection using UV irradiation has been considered to an alternative for chlorination because it does not suffer from disinfection byproducts problem. The aim of this study was to verify if UV irradiation with 368.6[nm] wavelength has a potential to be used a efficient disinfection. UV irradiation was given for 60 minutes to E. coli. which was used as a model microorganism. Remarkable decrease in number of microorganism was not observed for initial 30 minutes, however, 83.3[%] of disinfection efficiency was achieved after 30 minutes of irradiation. A Field Study of Illuminance and Discomfort Glare in Pedestrian Passsage of an Urban Tunnel

Recently, additional pedestrian passages are installed on urban tunnels in Korea. The lighting environment of the pedestrian passages should be appropriate to pedestrians. In this study, illuminance and discomfort glare where measured for determining the actual impact that pedestrians will be influenced by the tunnel lighting condition. Illuminance and discomfort glare were measured in `S tunnel` which is located in Dong-Jack, Seoul, at day and night. And field survey on illuminance and discomfort glare was conducted to identify subjective responses of pedestrians. From the results of measurements and the survey, it is known that the lighting environment of the pedestrian passage in the tunnel is slightly dark especially at day time. UGR values which were measured at night were also higher than that at day. The results and methods of this study will be useful data for the `Environmental Improvement of Pedestrian passage in Tunnel` project which was begun by Seoul City at 1st December 2008.
Simulation Method for the Flowing Water Purification with UV Lamp

Interest in application of ultraviolet light technology for primary disinfection of potable water in drinking water treatment plants has increased significantly in recent years. The efficacy of disinfection processes in water purification systems is governed by several key factors, including reactor hydraulics, disinfectant chemistry, and microbial inactivation kinetics. The objective of this work was to develop a computational fluid dynamics(CFD) model to predict velocity fields, mass transport, chlorine decay, and microbial inactivation in a continuous flow reactor. The CFD model was also used to evaluate disinfection efficiency in alternative reactor designs. In a typical operation, water enters the inlet of a UV lamp and flows through the annular space between the quartz sleeve and the outside chamber wall. The irradiated water leaves through the outlet nozzle. In this paper, it describe the how to design optimal ultraviolet disinfection device for ground water and rainwater. To search the optimal design method, it was performed computer simulation with 3D-CFD discrete ordinates model and manufactured prototype. Using proposed design method, performed simulation and proved satisfied performance.
Fuzzy-Based MPPT Control of Photovoltaic System to Drive Induction Motor

This paper is proposed by fuzzy-based MPPT control of photovoltaic to drive induction motor. Design and prototype implement of a fuzzy logic(FL) controller for maximum power extraction from a stand-alon photovoltaic. Error and the change of error between maximum power and real power are used by input of fuzzy controller. Moreover, it output changing of voltage from control constant. The validity of this paper is proved by comparing maximum power point tracking and performance of motor drive through comparison fuzzy and PI of tradition method.
A Study on the Decision Strategy of Investment Priority Focused on Economics in Distribution Network

This paper shows prioritization process for equipment investment plans considering reliability indices and economical efficiency. To decide prioritization of distribution investment projects, we made a distribution system model using system configuration, it`s component and load information and designed several investment alternatives to improve reliability of present system. Lastly, we proposed a evaluation model of economical efficiency assessment on distribution investment alternative projects. To analyze influence by reliability and economical efficiency, we produced economical effects with applying time-varying failure rate of KEPCO`s main equipments of distribution system and interruption cost of electric power affected by investment. Finally, in order to insure the validity of this proposed methodology, we compared investment prioritization by economical evaluation with that of real investment alternatives of KEPCO`s branch office. In conclusion, this paper shows what and how to interpret the reliability effects of distribution system investments into financial indicators beneficial for power utilities`s managers to make decision on the perspective of corporate value.
Transient Grounding Impedance Characteristic Analysis of a Copper Rod-type Grounding Electrode Used for Electric Distribution Systems Using MATLAB Program

Although a ground resistance is a good index of grounding performance for grounding electrodes, it does not reflect the grounding performance during transient state. A copper rod electrode is the most commonly used grounding electrode in electric distribution systems. In this paper, the grounding impedance of copper rods has been measured in frequency raging from 60[Hz] up to 100[kHz] and an equivalent model of the grounding impedance is identified from the measured values. The grounding impedance under study when a typical lightning surge is injected into the grounding system was simulated numerically and graphically through the use of the MATLAB software program.
The Research for the Change of Load Demand in Wintertime by the Influence of a Climate

These clays, because of world economy recession, exports decreased rapidly and manufacturing industry growth fell into negative. Industrial power consumption has been reduced about 7[%] that forms 53[%] of total load demand in Korea. And also, daily load pattern has been changed in several ways because of power consumption decrease influenced by domestic demand recession and heating power load decreased by the rise in temperature. This research analyzes, by analyzing maximum load demand, average load demand, load pattern based on relative factor, and load sensitiveness in accordance with temperature, that maximum load demand is more sensitive to atmospheric temperature than GDP growth rate and average load demand tends to be reduced according to GDP growth rate. I suppose KPX could operate the network system economically and safely by forecasting load demand in winter and summer seasons based on the results.
Phasor Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm to Configure Community Energy Systems

This paper presents a modified Phasor Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization (PDPSO) algorithm to configure Community Energy Systems(CESs) in the distribution system. The CES obtains electric power from its own Distributed Generations(DGs) and purchases insufficient power from the competitive power market, to supply power for customers contracted with the CES. When there are two or more CESs in a network, the CESs will continue the competitive expansion to reduce the total operation cost. The particles of the proposed PDPSO algorithm have magnitude and phase angle values, and move within a circle area. In the case study, the results by PDPSO algorithm was compared with that by the conventional DPSO algorithm.
Maximum Efficiency Control of Induction Motor Drives Using Quadratic Interpolation Method

Three inputs of given three magnetic fluxes of an induction motor are calculated. Then, the calculation of magnetic flux for minimum input is repeated using quadratic interpolation method until the convergence criteria are satisfied. The maximum efficiency control is fulfilled with the final magnetic flux for minimum input. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Computation of Critical Length for Linear Grounding Electrodes

For the surge currents like lightning currents containing high frequency components and the abnormal currents having high frequencies which cause the EMI(Electromagnetic interference) problems for the electronic devices and communication instruments, the linear grounding electrodes have the significantly composite impedance characteristics which are dependent on the frequency of the applied current. The impedance of a grounding electrode is not lowered by expanding the dimension of the grounding electrode, and the length of grounding electrode having the minimum value of the grounding impedance for each condition of frequency and soil characteristics is existent, and it is defined as Critical length. In this paper, the critical lengths for the vertically and horizontally-buried grounding electrodes are calculated by using the distributed parameter circuit model. The propriety of the simulations has been confirmed by comparing the simulated results with the measured results.
A Study on School Assets Management System using RFID

In this paper, the method to apply the RFID technology to schools will be presented in order to effectively integrate and manage various assets in school. The proposed system may be seemed to be very useful of individual school to grasp the status of their assets and also the central government to control and manage the assets scattered far and wide around the country. We also propose the OSN/PMS server based on EPC global standard could be appropriate especially in schools. In addition, the proposed system can acquire simultaneously the information from several RFID readers at real time so that it is possible and easy to track the position, the path of moving and the status of assets in the school. To show the usefulness of the proposed system, the prototype of the system has been implemented and conducted. The proposed system seems to be applicable to various fields such as factories, farms, or homes as well as school. Especially, it would become the very good integrated management system in the case that assets lie scattered widely.
A Study on External Light Noise Reduction Using Stereo Vision System in Image Monitoring System

In this paper, a method for reduction of error ratio by external light noise is proposed, which separates error moving component caused by external light noise from moving component of an object, using depth information of stereo image. If measured depth information change of extracted moving component is insignificant, the moving component is considered as external light noise, which concludes that there is no moving object. Experimental results assert the usefulness of the proposed method which makes error ratios by external light noise and by false image as shadow diminish.
The Study of Accident Cases Verification and Construction of It`s Cause Diagnosis System of Power Cable Accident

We have constructed the it`s cause diagnosis system of power cable by Failure Mode Effect Analysis(FMEA) method because we have to cause analysis when the cable accident happened. This system was composed of data input of accident condition, presentation of the shape through pictograph and accident probability by FMEA method. According to each selection, the accident cause comments are showed by the accident occurrence possibility. Also, the verification of the it`s diagnosis system through the cause analysis of the cable accident cases, the system agreed well with results that analyzed actual state.

Actually, The hard switching high frequency PWM DC-DC converters are existing accompany, the high frequency of pulse modulation carrier frequency increase of switching loss of power semiconductor switching elements, there are have some problem points of EMI etc. This compliance with a voltage surge or the electric current surge are where the switching transient phenomenon accompanies. In order to solve like this problem effectively it described the principle of operation of New Small Scale Boost PWM Chopper circuits from the present paper, draw Characteristics from simulation and experiment.
ELM based short-term Water Demand Prediction for Effective Operation of Water Treatment Plant

In this paper, we develop an ELM(Extreme Learning Machine) based short-tenn water demand prediction algorithm which solves overfitting problem of MLP(Multi Layer Perceptron) and has quick training time. To show effectiveness of proposed method, we analyzed time series data collected in A water treatment plant at Chung-Nam province during
years and used the selected data for the verification of developed algorithm. According to the experimental results, MLP model showed 5.82[%], but the proposed ELM based model showed 5.61[%] with respect to MAPE, respectively. Also, MLP model needed 7.57s training time, but ELM based model was 0.09s. Therefore, the proposed ELM based short-term water demand prediction model can be used to operate the water treatment plant effectively.
Analysis on the Lighting Characteristics using KLDNet in Korea

Recently, the failures of electrical equipment have been reduced due to the improvement of its quality and the advance of operation techniques but the failure rates caused by natural disasters such as wind and lightning have been increased. To reduce the failures due to lightning, it is necessary for insulation design of transmission lines to be done, effectively. Also the analysis on the lightning characteristics is essential to the effective insulation design. In this paper, we describe lightning distribution, multiplicity, IKL(Iso-Keraunic Level) and amplitude distribution of lightning current base on the lightning data by KLDNet.
Implementation of SVPWM Module for the Multi-Motor Control

Recently, PWM inverter is widely utilized for many industrial applications such as high performance drive and space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM) inverter which has high voltage ratio and low harmonics compared to conventional PWM inverter. This paper presents the implementation on a field programmable gate array(FPGA) of a SVPWM module for a voltage source inverter. The SVPWM module consists of PWM generator, current and position sensor interface and dead time compensator. The implemented SVPWM module can be integrated with a digital signal processor(DSP) to provide a flexible and effective solution for high performance voltage source inverter and for the use of multi-motor control. The performance of SVPWM module is verified by simulation and several experimental results.
