Comparison and Analysis about CCT of LED Luminaire According to Light Sources and Compounded CCT

Recently, adjustable CCT(Correlated Color Temperature) luminaire for the human circadian rhythm and room atmosphere has been developed. Accurate CCT control is needed in the luminaire for the human circadian rhythm. Therefore, appropriate CCT calculation method for each of fluorescent lamps and white LEDs was examined using three CCT calculation methods in this study. To make accurate CCT combination, CCT for two different CCT lamps was separately measured. And this study compared and analyzed proportionally calculated CCT value with measured value from the compounded luminaire with the two lamps.
Development of Dimmable Magnetic Ballast for HID-Lamps by Zero Current Switching on SCRs

In this paper, we have proposed a new dimmable magnetic ballast for HID(High Intensity Discharge) lamps consisted of AC switches to variate inductance value by using Silicon Controlled Rectifiers and the isolated zero current detector on inductor. Conventional dimming ballast has used relays or Solid State Relays in AC switches. However, a relay is difficult to zero current switching, because it has long operating time(10[ms]), and price competitiveness of SSR is very low. The proposed AC switches are suitable to switch at zero inductor current and it is accurately detected by using a opto-coupler. SCR is cheaper than SSR, and it is suitable to switch at zero inductor current because SCR is automatically turned off under holding current at no gate signal. Operating principles, simulation results and experimental results of the proposed ballast are described.
A Study on the Comparison of the PV Module Generation from Daylight Irradiation and Indoor Lighting Savings with Lighting Simulation

Recently, BIPV system which is good enough for maintenance and functions with the shading system is being used. However BIPV system with the shading system is different from existing PV module because of using flexible PV module. Prior to the application of the BIPV system, the clearness index was calculated by Erbs et al.(1982) and analyzed for the amount of electric power generation of sky irradiance with measured data. To predict electric lighting energy savings in daylit space, electric lighting power savings with amount of PV module electric power generation was compared by using Relux 2010 software in this study.

Compared to general lighting method, the lighting system that uses optic fiber can provide only the visible light of good quality to subject by eliminating ultraviolet ray and infrared ray. Thanks to this merit, it is possible to prevent the hard phenomenon of subject caused by ultraviolet ray and infrared ray and to provide the agreeable light environment. This study developed indoors illumination system of high color rendering on the basis of plastic optic fiber with excellent optical property and processing to substitute halogen lamp which has been used for excellent color rendering in spite of low efficiency and short life. Producing pilot product of the designed illumination system and evaluating the property of electric and optical property, ultraviolet ray radiation quantity and temperature property, this study verified the excellence of suggested lighting system of plastic optic fiber.
Current-Controlled Wavelength-Tunable Fiber Comb Filter based on Polarization-Diversity Loop Configuration

In this paper, we have demonstrated absolute wavelength tuning in an optical fiber comb filter based on a polarization-diversity loop configuration by controlling the current injected into enameled wires wound on polarization-maintaining fibers (PMF`s), that is, adjusting Joule heat generated from enameled wires. The proposed fiber comb filter consists of a polarization beam splitter, a half-wave plate, a quarter-wave plate, and PMF`s. And we observed wavelength change of spectral dips in transmission spectra of the fabricated filter by varying an input current applied to enameled wires. The absolute wavelength of the filter could be controlled in proportional to the square of the input current with good linearity, and the rate of the wavelength shift with respect to the input current was measured as 36.79[nm/

For the development of 100[W] stage lighting, quantitative and uniform color mixing that applied through color adopted Simple-Inverse matching so that color mixing can be possible along Black Body Locus. R,G,B(Red, Green, Blue) LED(Light Emitting Diode) arrangement through LED package character analysis, LED module, and the characteristic of device were considered for uniform color mixing. A distance changeable optical device was built to assure high uniformity and high diffusion of not only the middle of diffusion side but also the border side. Also, we developed the control power circuit that can expand up to 6 channels which are possible for quantitative color mixing, and the high uniformity and high quantified border light for color mixing control and the verification of color mixing characteristics by composing GUI(Graphical user interface) including color mixing simulator. By presenting the experimental results of light color control, we proved the usefulness of our developed border light and the proposed color mixing method.
A Study on Filter and Lamp of Blocking Fading Wavelength with Use of the Deposition

For a human being`s smooth activity, the clean air and comfortable lighting environment are needed. The suitable lighting environment is obtained generally by making it available for being formed the bright situation easy for seeing object and the visually comfortable atmosphere. In this way, even the lighting environment was changed along with economic development. Even a light source was diversified. Thus, several kinds of new light sources such as LED, OLED, PLS, and CNT came to appear. Halogen lamp, which has low efficiency due to high color rendering among lamps of being used now, is being much used yet. However, owing to radiation of UV and IR, there are many limitations to the subject in general exhibition lighting, museum, and art museum. Accordingly, a research was performed on filter that is blocked UV and IR at the same time, by using halogen lamp that is excellent in color rendering and in life.
Analysis of Thermal Properties in LED Package by Via hole of FR4 PCB

The efficiency of LED package is increasing by applying the high power, and a existing lighting is changing as the LED lighting. However, many problems have appeared by heat. Therefore, in order to solve thermal problems, LED lighting is designing in several ways, but the advantages of LED lighting is fading due to increase the prices and volumes. In this study, we try to improve the thermal performance by formation of via holes. The junction temperature and thermal resistance in the FR4-PCB with via-holes of 0.6[mm] was excellent in experiment and FR4-PCB with Via-holes of 0.6[mm] was excellent in simulation without solder. Further, the thermal resistance and the optical properties can be improved through a formation of via-holes.
Construction of Uninterruptible Power System by Reliable Incoming Dual-Power Line

High capacity UPS and emergency generators are commonly employed at facilities where power interruption is not allowed. Nowadays, combinations of existing commercial incoming power and an emergency generator or combination of multiple generators and CTTS(Closed Transition Transfer Switch) is adopted sometimes for more reliable power supply. In this paper, application of CTTS and STS(Static Transfer Switch) to dual-power line is suggested for highly reliable uninterruptible power. By realizing such a system, construction of incoming power facilities, installation of emergency generator and large capacity UPS can be omitted, through which saving of the installation space and corresponding capital investment can be expected.
A Study on the Problem of Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor According to End Effect

A discontinuity of magnetic circuits according to the end effect is generated in PMLSM. And magnetic state of the 3 phase coils becomes unbalanced. Due to the unbalanced magnetic state, the unbalanced flux linkage, back electro-magnetic force and inductance of the 3 phase coils appear. In result, the circulating current is generated by unbalanced inductance even if the input voltages are in balanced state. Then the thrust and efficiency are decreased because of the circulating current. Therefore, in this paper, the unbalanced inductance and the thrust reduction according to discontinuity of magnetic circuits are analyzed by FEA(2D). To demonstrate the validity of the analysis results, the experiment results are compared with analysis results.
A Safety Improvement of Low Voltage Circuit-breakers through Analysis of Instantaneous Trip Characteristics of 30AF Circuit-Breakers

The domestic 30AFs that are currently being produced show many problems due to different instantaneous trip characteristics in case of short-circuit. The troubles may cause explosion by excessive short-circuit capacities and arc emission, which results in a wide range of blackout. The function and safety of the low voltage circuit breakers installed before the end load are very important. This paper presents an idea on the safety improvement of the low voltage circuit-breakers through the analysis of instantaneous trip characteristics of domestic 30AF circuit-breakers.
A Study on the PSCAD/EMTDC Simulation Model of Battery Energy Storage with Simplified Battery Model and IUIa Charging Method

In order to level electric power of the photovoltaic and wind-turbine system and ensure fast response of the fuel-cell and micro-turbine, the energy storage is required in the microgrid system. In this paper, a simplified simulation model of the battery energy storage for charging method with IUIa is developed using PSCAD/EMTDC. The model consists of e.m.f.(electromotive force), internal resistor and overvoltage capacitor. A method for deciding parameters of the model on a case-by-case basis is proposed. The developed model can be used in the simulation of a complicated system such as a microgrid system.
A Study on Outdoor Acoustic Noise for HVDC Converter Station

HVDC converter station consists of a number of equipment such as converter transformer, ac filter, thyristor valve and so on. They can be acoustic noise sources. In this paper, we analyzed the simulation results of the outdoor acoustic noise for HVDC converter station. It shows that maximum noise level in boundary of HVDC converter station exceeds regulation value. The main factors in generating maximum noise level are ac filter and converter transformer. Then we applied some soundproof countermeasures in HVDC converter station. Shielding wall is enough to reduce transformer noise level but not enough to reduce ac filter noise level. In case of ac filter, soundproof building is effective in satisfying noise level regulation in boundary of HVDC converter station. In addition, we also studied effects of season, soundproof woods, ground.
A Study on Reduction Factor in Allowable Current of IEC Low-Voltage Wire

A low voltage wire should be used considering that a load used in the end is a low voltage. In regard to these wires, there are needs for research about the wire thickness calculation in accordance with IEC standard because the standardization process for IEC (KS standard) was completed on June 30, 2005, and they stopped producing NEC-standard products by the order from Korean Agency for Technology and Standards under Ministry of Knowledge Economy (former Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy) since July 1, 2006. This study compared, in terms of the thickness calculation of low voltage wire, a reduction factor application by IEC standard about allowed current and an application for calculation of voltage drop. It also proposed the formula for IEC standard to decrease errors and resolve the difficulty of standardized calculation by analyzing the difference between simplified formula and standardized formula that are the most frequently used calculation method of voltage drop.
Renewable Source and Hybrid System Modeling for Smart Grid

Recently, smart grid for solving energy problems have been receiving growing attention. Also, renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic and fuel cell as future energy for realizing smart grid have been widely studied. On the other hand, hybrid structures have been proposed since the output power of these renewable energy sources is usually dependent on weather conditions. This paper proposes a hybrid system involving a proper photovoltaic in the hybrid system, Polymer Elecrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell with water electrolyzer and ultracapacitor. The results of simulation and output of the proposed model are established and analysed by Matlab/Simulink and SimPowerSystems.
Illumination Invariant Ranging Sensor Based on Structured Light Image

This paper presents an active ranging system based on laser structured-light image. The structured-light image processing is computationally efficient in comparison with the conventional stereo image processing, since the burdensome correspondence problem is avoidable. In order to achieve robustness against environmental illumination noise, an efficient image processing algorithm, i.e., integration of difference images with structured-light modulation is proposed. Distance equation from the measured structured light pixel distance and system parameter calibration are addressed in this paper. Experiments and analysis are carried out to verify performance of the proposed ranging system.
A Consideration of the Expected Service Life Cycles of Electrical Equipments in Buildings

This paper considers and suggests the life cycle of the power equipments installed in buildings. The target equipments were divided into 5 groups by a couple of conditions, and a theoretical consideration and domestic foreign case studies were carried out. As a result, the most appropriate life cycles and monitoring periods were suggested for each group. The suggested results are expected to practically help the field electricians determine whether they have to replace the deteriorated equipments or not.
The Time Variant Power Signal Processing of Wind Generator using Buneman Frequency Estimator Algorithm

On wind turbine generators, the speed and volume of the wind affect the turbine angle speed which finally determines the output level of the electric power. However it is very difficult to forecast correctly the future power output and quality based on previous fixed sampling methods. This paper proposes a variable sampling method based on Buneman frequency estimation algorithm to reflect the variations of the frequency and amplitude on wind power outputs. The proposed method is also verified through the performance test by comparing with the results from previous fixed sampling methods and the real measurement data.

We studied on performance improvement of TTM(TI21 Test Meter) that is test and diagnosis devices for jointless audio frequency track circuit on Korean electric railway TI21 standard. Upgraded devices is AD-TTM(Advanced TI21 Test Meter). This can measure alternating frequency USB(Upper signal band) and LSB(Lower signal band). In the audio frequency track circuit,
of nominal frequency are demodulated and supplied to track relay through AND gate. It is important that measurement function which is error between USB and LSB. Need of AD-TTM will stand out in the electric railway system because this is simple and accurate rather than the former device.
Analysis of the Eccentric Characteristics of the Brushless Motor by the Rotor Structure

The brushless motor is getting widely applied to the automotive component with the advantage of the high efficiency, high reliability and etc.. Most of the motor applications require the low vibration and acoustic noise. The cogging torque is the one of the main cause of the noise and vibration. The step-skewed rotor is used to reduce the cogging torque. We analyze the characteristics of the step-skewed rotor and non skewed rotor with the same stator by using 2-dimensional FEM. And then we analyze the characteristics variation according to the rotor eccentricity. The prototype is made and tested. As the results, the step-skewed rotor structure reduce the cogging torque and local radial force but it is more sensitive to rotor eccentricity.
Determination of the Length of Coaxial Type Carbon Grounding Electrode to Minimize the Fluctuation of Grounding Impedance

For the surge currents like lightning or ground fault currents containing high frequency components which cause the electromagnetic interferences for the electronic devices and communication equipment, the grounding impedances give the significantly composite characteristics which are dependent on the frequency of surge currents. In this paper, the analytical model and method for determining the optimal length of the newly developed coaxial type carbon ground electrode which has a little fluctuation in grounding impedance with frequency. The length of minimizing the fluctuation of grounding impedance by changing frequency from 100[Hz] to 1[MHz] was determined, and the validity of this proposed method was confirmed by comparing with the simulated and measured data.
A Study on the Transient Analysis of 2[MVA] Mold Transformer for Electric Field

This paper presents the electric field for 22.9[kV]/380[V], 2[MVA] mold transformer are analysed using FEM(finite element method). The electric field was calculated for the voltage applied to the transformer. Then, it is analysed that the maximum electric field occurred between high voltage turns. Capacitance is calculated with energy method. Surge impulse test simulation is studied by modeling circuit with capacitance and inductance. This paper obtain the result that is about influence of electric field in distribution mold transformer adopted.
A An Experimental Study for Load Capacity and Dip Characteristic in Overhead Transmission Lines

Overhead transmission lines in domestic area have been built by several different design standards of dip and ground clearance. This paper describes an experimental study for evaluating load capacity and dip margin in overhead transmission lines. Such design standards for selection of overhead transmission conductors, dip and ground clearance, as well as electrical equipment technical standard are discussed. Based on daily load and weather data, several characteristics such as line utilization factor, load factor, conductor temperature and dip, etc. are analyzed, and compared with the specified levels of design standards. As a result, it is verified that DLR method can be a clue of the solving of the problem, for occurring in old transmission conductors which may be rarely operating below standards.
Fuzzy Logic Speed Control of a Surface-Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

This paper proposes a new fuzzy speed controller to precisely regulate the speed of a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor(SPMSM). The proposed fuzzy controller needs the knowledge of the load torque to realize its robust and accurate control, thus the first-order load torque observer is adopted to estimate it. It is analytically confirmed that the overall control system containing the fuzzy speed controller and the load torque observer is exponentially stable. To prove the validity of the proposed fuzzy speed controller, the simulation and experimental results are shown. It is concluded that the proposed control scheme can be employed to accurately control the speed of a SPMSM motor.
Eigenvalue Sensitivity Analysis of Discrete Power Systems Including Generator Controllers and TCSC

In this paper, the eigenvalue sensitivity analysis is calculated in the power system which is including both generator controllers such as Exciter, PSS and thyristor controlled FACTS devices in transmission lines such as TCSC. Exciter and PSS are continuously operating controllers but TCSC has a switching device which operates non-continuously. To analyze both continuous and non-continuous operating equipments, the RCF method one of the numerical analysis method in discrete time domain is applied using discrete models of the power system. Also the eigenvalue sensitivity calculation algorithm using state transition equations in discrete time domain is devised and applied to a sampled system. As a result of simulation, the eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients calculated using discrete system models in discrete time domain are changed periodically and showed different values compared to those of continuous system model in time domain by the effect of periodic switching operations of TCSC.

This thesis studies development of a triple pyroelectric Infrared flame detector to have appropriate reaction characteristics with proper operational features in various and radiant energy characteristics of fire sources, and to contribute to minimize the losses of human lives and properties by detecting fire in very early stage to restrict the spread of fire.

This paper deal with an analysis of the ground surface potential profiles using a hemispherical scaled-model. Because it is very difficult to draw valid conclusions concerning a general grounding problem from actual field data, scale model tests can be used to determine the ground surface potential profile around the grounding electrodes according to the configuration of grounding electrodes. In this work, a hemispherical vessel with a diameter of 1,100 [mm] was employed to simulate uniform soil and CDEGS program was employed to compare the measured and simulated results. As a result, the ground surface potential around the grounding electrode was significantly raised and the ground surface potential at the just upper point of ground electrode particularly was higher than other points. The ground surface potential of counterpoise was higher than other grounding electrodes such as mesh and grounding rods and the ground surface potential strongly depends on the frequency responses of grounding electrodes. Also the results measured with the small-sized model were in reasonably agreement with the data obtained from simulation.
A Study on Electrodeless HID Lamp Systems Using Circularly Polarized Microwaves

This paper presents the results of a study on an electrodeless high intensity discharge (HID) lamp system that is powered by circularly polarized microwaves (CPMs). The technique to generate CPMs enables an electrodeless high intensity discharge lamp to be turned on without the retation of the bulb but conventional electrodeless high intensity discharge lamps use rotating bulbs in order to prevent a puncture in a hot spots that are formed by the linearly polarized microwaves in the circular cavity. The technique to generate CPMs is described and the salient features of the lamp characteristics are presented.
