Grounding insures a reference potential point for electric devices and also provides a law resistance path for fault or transient currents in the earth. The grounding impedance as a function of frequency is necessary for determining its performance since fault or transient currents could contain a wide range of frequencies. A concrete rod electrode is one of the commonly used grounding electrodes in electric distribution systems. In this paper, the grounding impedance of concrete rods has been measured in frequency raging from 60[Hz] up to 100[kHz] and an equivalent model of the grounding impedance is identified from the measured values. The grounding impedance under study when a typical lightning surge is injected into the grounding system was simulated numerically and graphically through the use of the EDSA software program.

Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 24, issue 2, 2010, Pages 16~26
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2010.24.2.016
The transmission valuation methodology we propose here captures the interaction between generation and transmission investment decisions recognizing that a transmission expansion can impact the profitability of new resources investment, so that a methodology should consider both the objectives of investors in resources and the transmission planner. In this perspective, this paper purports to develop the mixed-integer programming based transmission expansion planning optimization software, which is well designed to determine the construction time and place of new generators, transmission lines, and substations as well as their capacities to minimize total expenditures related to their investment and operations while meeting technical constraints such as capacity margin, constitution ratio of power resources, spinning reserves, energy and fuel constraints, transmission line outages and losses, pi-type branching, and so on. Finally, Garver's simple system is adopted to validate not simply the accuracy but the efficiency of the proposed model in this paper.

We constructed a quasi-distributed fiber-optic sensor network for the safety monitoring in power systems. It is possible to construct many of FBG sensors in a line and to be immune from electromagnetic noise. For demodulation analysis of reflected wavelength from FBG sensor, we proposed a simple and fast system using a InGaAs photo-diode array and a holographic diffraction grating. For accuracy improvement of the proposed demodulation system, we applied a Gaussian line-fitting algorithm. We obtained about 4[pm] of wavelength resolution and stability.

In order to compete with other flat display devices such as Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) and organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), Plasma Display Panels (PDPs) require to have high performances like high image quality, low power consumption and high speed driving. In this paper, Fe doped MgO protective layer was introduced for higher performance. Both the surface characteristics of the deposited thin films and the electro-optical properties of 4 inch test panels were investigated. It has been demonstrated experimentally that ac PDP with Fe doped MgO protective layer has lower discharge voltage than that of undoped MgO film, which corresponds to measured secondary electron emission coefficients. The crystallinity and surface roughness of thin films were determined by XRD patterns and AFM images. In addition, ac PDP with Fe doped MgO protective layer has improved address discharge time lag for high speed driving.

A safe grounding design is used for providing means to carry electric currents into the earth under fault conditions without exceeding any operating limits and for assuring that a person in the vicinity of grounded facilities is not exposed to danger of critical electrical shock. Transformer neutral point grounding is for the purpose of controlling the voltage to earth within tolerable limits under a line-to-ground fault. Transformer frame grounding is for the purpose of minimizing the hazardous potential within safety criteria appearing at the faulted equipment. ills paper deeply investigates the grounding resistance effects of distribution power transformers by analysing the neutral to eatth voltages and touch voltages when the fault occurs.

Kim, Youn-Hyun ;
Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 24, issue 2, 2010, Pages 120~126
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2010.24.2.120
This paper propose analysis and examination of the melting characteristic of fuse elements by repeating overcurrent as a depletion factor of high pressure current limiting fuse through test following existence and nonexistence of extinction material and various configuration of elements. To examine deterioration progress rate by repeating overcurrent we analyzed heat for various element notching configuration, designed plate type, ring type element and estimated the relationship with life span by analyzing breaking characteristic through repeating overcurrent test with adjusting load factor at Silicon Dioxide(SiO2) filled state or in air. A Crack by repeat stress, decrease of section and transformation by friction with extinction material by repeating overcurrent causes a problem which shortens life span based on fuse repeating frequency. Since the contents of this paper might be useful to research the correlation between friction of materials and repeating life span based on load factor of repeating current, the quality of product would be improved through solution of the problem.

The standards of demand, diversity and load density are necessary to create the design of a transformer capacity that is seldom presented in terms for academic study. At the moment, both legal and institutional standards for such a transformer are insufficient both at home and abroad. The works described in this thesis strongly support more reasonable standards for calculating transformer capacity by correlating the analysis between the maximum utilization factors of a given transformer with those of a transformer capacity whose power consumption has been investigated within a lease apartment. In this dissertation, it is necessary to analyze the key features and general trend from the investigated data. It made an analysis of the feature parameters, such as average, standard deviation, median, maximum, minimun and thus it was carried by the linear and nonlinear regression analysis.

Grounding system insures a reference potential point for electric devices and also provides a low impedance path for fault currents in the earth. The ground impedance as function of frequency is necessary for determining its performance since fault currents could contain a wide range of frequencies. Copper and concrete rod electrodes are the most commonly used grounding electrode in electric distribution systems. In this paper, the ground impedance of copper and concrete rods has been measured by frequency and time domain characteristic tests. An equivalent transfer function model of the ground impedance is identified from the measured values by using ARMA method and evaluated by comparing conventional grounding impedances.
