The Investment Scheme of the Maintenance Planning with Limited Investment Budget in the Distribution Systems for Minimizing the Interruption Cost

The reliability of a power system has close relationship with the maintenance of the distribution systems. This paper presents the method of the maintenance planning of the distribution systems by minimizing the interruption cost. The interruption cost for the equipment failures is formulated using time varying failure rate and minimized by optimization of the object function. The proposed method provides the priority list for the investment of the maintenance subject to the limited investment budget by the economic analysis. In order to test the proposed method, the modified distribution system of a rural area is introduced for the testing system. Test results show that the proposed method is good enough by evaluating the improvement of the reliability of the power system.

In this Paper, optimal capacity of battery storage in Je-Ju is calculated. First, Electricity demand data of Je-Ju(`06~`16) is estimated based on real electricity demand data of Je-Ju(`06~`07). Then, the 4th power supply planning is used to calculate benefits from battery storage capacity in view of maximum power savings, preventing outages savings and energy charge fee reduction. Finally, optimal battery storage capacity is suggested.

This paper shows a reasonable diversity factor, that was made by the systematic and statistical way considering actual conditions, such as investigated contract power and peak power for the last 5 years of each customer for 20 Lease Apartment. In this paper, it is necessary to analyze the key features and general trend from the investigated data. It made an analysis of the feature parameters, such as average, standard deviation, median, maximum, minimun and thus it was carried out by the linear and nonlinear regression analysis. The standards of demand, diversity, and load density are necessary to create the design of a transformer capacity that is seldom presented in terms for academic study.

Recently, since the prevalence of electric driving transfer system arouse the electric corrosion of neighboring underground metal establishment, the problems caused by that kind of electric corrosion became very serious. In this paper, we studied about a theoretical concept and concrete concepts of electric corrosion and tried suggested an optimistic chemico-electrical measures on the electric corrosion of underground metal establishments.

Torque ripple of the motor used in EPS raises vibration problem on steering system. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a optimum design for torque ripple reduction of Surface-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(SPMSM) in EPS. Through analyis back-EMF using Finite element method as changing the shape of permanent magnet and stator shoe, we presented the method of torque ripple redution.
Characteristics of Hydrogen Generation from Methanol and Ethanol using Cylindrical Barrier Discharge

Hydrogen is sustainable energy without environment pollution. In this study, experiments and analysis of hydrogen generation from gases methanol and ethanol using cylindrical barrier discharge reactor was carried out. The discharge reactor to generate hydrogen molecules used in this work is one type of Non-thermal Plasma (NTP) reactors and neon-transformer as power source to make a plasma was used. Hydrogen concentrations were measured as parameters of applied voltage, concentrations of methanol and ethanol, and flow rates of carrier gases(
). Hydrogen generation increased according to applied voltage and produced largely in case of methanol compared with ethanol. It is thought that the reason is deeply related with those different chemical structures. Energy yield of hydrogen generation in case of ethanol decreases according to increasing applied voltage, but that in case of methanol has a peak at applied voltage of 22[kV] and decreased. Specifically, hydrogen generation increased with increasing applied voltage, but low voltage was better, which is the best parameter in the aspects of energy efficiency.

In this paper, we propose a probability method to determine minimum capacity of energy storage system(ESS) for Micro Grid(MG). Because of high capital cost of ESS, it`s very important to determine optimal capacity of ESS and for stable operation of MG and we should determine minimum capacity of ESS. The proposed method has abilities to consider forced outage rate of generators and intermittent of non-dispatchable generators and minimum capacity make MG keep energy balancing by oneself.
Control of Railway Power Quality Conditioner for AC Electrified Railway Systems

The AC electrified railway systems have the power quality problems such as the harmonic distortion, the reactive power and the three-phase imbalance because of the electrical load characteristics of locomotives, which are non-linear single-phase. These power quality problems have a bad effect on not only AC electrified railway systems but also other electric systems connected together. The RPQC (railway power quality conditioner) can compensate such power quality problems in the AC electrified railway systems. In this paper, a novel RPQC control method based on SRF (synchronous-reference-frame) control is proposed. The proposed RPQC control method can compensate effectively the harmonic currents, the reactive power and the load imbalance. The validity and the effectiveness of the proposed RPQC control method are illustrated through the simulations.
Development of Induction Motor Diagnosis Method by Variance Based Feature Selection and PCA-ELM

In this paper, we proposed selective extraction method of frequency information and PCA-ELM based diagnosis system for three-phase induction motors. As the first step for diagnosis procedure, DFT is performed to transform the acquired current signal into frequency domain. And then, frequency components are selected according to discriminate order calculated by variance As the next step, feature extraction is performed by principal component analysis (PCA). Finally, we used the classifier based on Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) with fast learning procedure. To show the effectiveness, the proposed diagnostic system has been intensively tested with the various data acquired under different electrical and mechanical faults with varying load.
Horizontal Stress Analysis of Electric Pole using Earth Pressure Cell from Mock-Up Tension Test

Many electric poles in the softground have been collapsed due to external load. In this study, 10 types of tests were performed with variation of location, numbers and depths of anchor blocks as well as depth of poles to find horizontal earth pressure through full scale pull-out tests. The horizontal earth pressure increased with embedded depth of electric pole, and earth pressure of lower passive zone decreased. The deeper of anchor block, earth pressure of passive zone becomes less. 4 anchor blocks decreased earth pressure at G.L.-0.9[m]. It is considered that 4 anchor blocks installed along 80[cm] vertically are main reason. Overall, when more anchor blocks are constructed, excavation area is large, and constructivity such as backfill is bad, therefore one anchor block would be preferred.

This paper presents the current and speed controller design procedure and their performance for the IPMSM based next generation high speed railway traction system. The next generation high speed railway system is a power distributed type and uses vector control method for a motor speed control. Since the speed and current controller gains of the vector control system directly affects to the transient characteristics and speed control capability, the systematic design of the controllers are required. In this paper the controllers are designed using the IPMSM based next generation high speed railway system parameters. Simulation programs based on Matlab/Simulink is developed. Finally the controller characteristics are analyzed by the simulation results.
A Characteristic of Tracking Progress Happened at the End of the VCTFK

This paper describes the characteristic of tracking progress happened at the end of the polyvinyl chloride insulated cabtyre oval cord(VCTFK) that is widely used for distribution cord. Tracking is occurred owing to the drop of electrolyte at the end of the VCTFK. The tracking progress and its characteristic happened at the end of the VCTFK are as follow; Carbonization and electrical erosion are happened at the end of the VCTFK. Electrical erosion is begun at the insulation layer near conductors. After that, it is also happened at the sheath layer. Accumulation of carbonized insulation and sheath materials at the end of the VCTFK is begun after progress of electrical erosion. When the accumulation is progressed arc discharge is appeared and finally it goes to tracking breakdown.
A Method of Visualization and Fast Estimation of Parameter in Continuous Time Signal

This paper describes a method of visualization and fast estimation of parameter in continuous time signal. The parameter estimation method of this paper directly estimate the parameters on the basis of the discrete Fourier transform. Also, this paper present to efficient visualization method of dominant parameters obtained in continuous time signal. The proposed methods are applied to test functions with three dominant modes. The results show that the proposed methods are highly applicable to parameter estimation and visualization in continuous time signal.
Grounding Characteristics Analysis of the Stainless-steel Plate Grounding Electrode for Distribution Poles

Grounding system insures a reference potential point for electric devices and also provides a low impedance path for fault currents or transient currents in the earth. The ground impedance as function of frequency is necessary for determining its performance since fault currents could contain a wide range of frequencies. In this paper, the grounding resistance, grounding impedance and transient grounding impedance are measured by using 3-point fall-of-potential method in order to analyse grounding characteristics of the stainless-steel plate grounding electrode. An equivalent transfer function model of the grounding impedance and transient grounding impedance are identified from the measured values by using ARMA method and evaluated by comparing conventional grounding impedances.
Development of IEC 61850 based Integration Engineering Tool for Intelligent Electronic Device

In order to construct the IEC 61850 based substation automation system, the IED integration engineering tool is necessary to cope with the substation automation by full digital devices in the real power system. Compared the configuration tools provided IED vendors which are able to support the operation and communication analysis among IEDs, the XML based IED integration engineering tool can build, edit and save the ICD, SCL and CID files. Particularly, the IED integration engineering tool is possible to apply the IEC 61850 based IEDs to engineering the systems and also provides the reliability and efficiency of the system to the utilities and manufacturers.
A Study on the Application of SVR at the Distribution Line Interconnected with Wind Turbine

It is expected that distribution system, interconnected with wind turbines, would experience the voltage problem due to WT`s output. But most papers just consider this problem using the simulation or the theory only. In this paper, we verify this problem through the measurement at the distribution system and wind turbine. We explain the method for voltage management at distribution system. And we verify that the voltage of D/L interconnected with WTs could not be maintained properly using pole transformer`s tap only. We consider some method to solve this problem and we propose the installation of SVR(step voltage regulator). Finally we show this method`s validity through the simulation.
Indoor Environment Recognition of Mobile Robot Using SVR

This paper proposes a new solution about physical problem of autonomous mobile robots system using ultrasonic sensors. An mobile robot uses several sensors for recognition of its circumstance. However, such sensor data are not accurate all the time. A means of removing the noise that sensor data contains constantly, It is possible for simulation to estimate its circumstance based on ultrasonic sensor data by learning algorithm SVR(Support Vector Regression). To use SVR, it is being selected parameter and kernel which are the component of SVR. Selecting the component of SVR, the most accurate parameter data was selected through the tests because it is not existed determined data. In addition, choosing the kernel uses RBF(Radial Basis Function) kernel which is the most generalized. This paper proposes SVR based algorithm to compensate for the above demerits of ultrasonic sensor through the experimentation under three different environments.

This paper presents dielectric characteristics of
gas under impulse voltages in a quasi-uniform electric field gap. The experiments were carried out at the test gap applied by the 1.2/50[
] lightning impulse voltage, 180/2500[
] switching impulse voltage, 500[ns]/1[MHz] very fast transient overvoltage(VFTO). The gap separation of sphere-to-plane electrodes was 14[mm] and the electric field utilization factor was about 71.2[%]. The gas pressure ranges from 0.2 to 0.6[MPa]. As a result, the electrical breakdowns are occurred by streamer discharge. Breakdown voltages are linearly increased with the gas pressure and the highest breakdown voltage is appeared under the VFTOs having fast rising time. Breakdown voltages under the positive impulse voltages were higher than those under the negative ones, and also the time to breakdown in the positive polarity is longer than that in the negative polarity.
An Optimization of the Distributed Generator Combination for Microgrid using Linear Programming

MG(Microgrid) is a small power supply system located on-site that can supply both the electricity and the hot-water simultaneously. Engineering S/W is requested to construct Microgrids economically. We developed Engineering S/W that can combine DERs (Distributed Energy Resources) most economically using the linear programming and estimate of the economic. Developed S/W was programed using GAMS(General Algebraic Modeling System) and it is composed of the optimal DER combination module and forecasting module of renewable energy`s output. We embody it based on MS Excel considering the user`s convenience and we show its validity through a case study. We think that developed S/W will be very useful for planning MGs and energy supply.

This paper describes dielectric characteristics of
and dry-air gases under lightning impulse voltages in a quasi-uniform electric field. In order to simulate to a quasi-uniform electric field, electric field utilization factor of the used sphere-plane electrode is 71[%]. The gas pressure of
ranges from 0.1 to 0.2[MPa] and that of dry-air ranges from 0.2 to 0.6[MPa]. Electrical breakdown voltages of
and dry-air gases are measured and analyzed as functions of the polarity of lightning impulse voltage and gas pressure. As a result, the electrical breakdown voltage of both gases under the positive lightning impulse voltage is higher than that under the negative one. The electrical breakdown voltage in
is almost higher than 2.67 times compared to dry-air. The results presented in this paper can be used as a useful information to evaluate the capability of alternative insulation gases for
in power distribution equipment with prominent ability against lightning surge.
