A Study on the activation of fusion technology through LED lighting industry

By using LED optical devices and improving the efficiency of optical devices as well as lighting apparatus for humans, LED lighting industry puts the purpose of manufacturing the main products related with information, electric, large-sized LCD BLU, automobile, shipbuilding, agriculture, medical treatment, environment, and telecommunications, etc. Moreover, the main products and the industrial lighting products are manufactured with fusion, as the result, LED lighting industry provides various effects as well as sources of technology based on practical use of LED technology in order to develop the industry from the perspective of the lower price, the higher efficiency, the higher function, the deeper reliance. In the future, not only the development of new LED technology but also the fusion and combination of digital IT technologies using wire-wireless communication, sensor, controller, and artificial intelligence will be expected to create new industrial fields.
Reflector Design for LED Pedestrian Lighting Using Indirect Reflectance Type

In this paper, we took an indirect reflectance type that irradiates light from an LED module, which reflects light from a reflector onto the road. This LED pedestrian lighting design produces minimal glare from a relatively simple structure. Using LightTools 7.2, we conducted a study on the varying shape and curvature of the reflector. In order to further investigate this data, we researched the ratio of the DLOR and ULOR, the average illuminance, and the uniformity of the illumination. Based on this research, we selected optimum conditions to realize the actual LED pedestrian lighting using RELUX software. We found the average illuminance value to be 22[1x] and the illuminance uniformity ratio to be 0.23, which met the criteria of the proposed standards set in KS C 7658. In addition, it also satisfied the criteria of the standards set in KS A 3701 by having TI (Threshold Increment) at 7[%].
A Study on the Modeling and Simulation of LED Driver Using HV9910 IC

This paper study a method of modeling and simulation of LED driver circuit for a design optimization. Simplified LED modeling is introduced and a driver IC, HV9910, is modeled by implementing the major function blocks. Circuit of buck type converter is constructed for simulation. Simulation includes not only the internal function of IC but also the various performance results such as LED array current control and dimming. Experiment results are also shown to prove the verification of its usage. This results show that the simulation approach is valid for a circuit optimization and a reduction of development time.
A Study on LED Dimming Control Platform Based on XML

In the study, an XML based platform is presented for LED dimming control. The XML platform is designed in an open architecture, providing with interoperability and scalability. Also, it enables the accommodation of off-the-shelf wired and wireless communication protocols and make it fast and easy to implement various application programs for LED dimming, comparing to the legacy platforms. In the study, a test best has been built for demonstration of the merits of the XML platform with dimming control by responding to the scenario of demand response event. Benefit calculation of the power saving and incentive from demand response shows the applicability and usefulness of the XML platform.
Analysis of the Protective Distance of Low-Voltage Surge Protective Device(SPD) to Equipment

Installing surge protection devices for a low-voltage system is important to ensure the survival of electric or electronic devices and systems. If surge protection devices (SPD) are installed without consideration of the concept of lightning protection zones, the equipment to be protected might be damaged despite the correct energy coordination of SPDs. This damage is induced by the reflection phenomena on the cable connecting an external SPD and the load protected. These reflection phenomena depend on the characteristics of the output of the external SPD, the input of the loads, and the cables between the load and the external SPD. Therefore, the SPD has an effective protection distance under the condition of the specific load and the specific voltage protection level of SPD. In this paper, PSCAD/EMTDC software is used to simulate the residual voltage characteristics of SPD Entering the low-voltage device. And by applying a certain voltage level, the effective protection distances of SPD were analyzed according to the each load and length of connecting cable, and the effectiveness of SPD were verified.
Comparison of Discharge UV Intensity Due to AR Coating of Optic Lens on Polymer Insulator

In this study, the ultraviolet (UV) intensity of polymer insulator was measured using the Anti-Reflective (AR) coating lens on the occurrence of corona discharge. The UV intensity was compared before and after the AR coating. Under the 200-260[nm] of UV lens, the reflection rate before AR coating was 7.5~5.5[%] with 85-89[%] of transmission rate. After AR coating, however, the reflection rate decreased to 1.3~1.22[%] with improved transmission (97.4~97.6[%]). Then, the UV intensity by distance was measured in the polymer insulator. According to the measurement, the UV intensity increased 6.5 times at 37.5[%] of Vm/Vbd with 5[m] of distance. As distance increased, the growth rate declined. As high voltage increased, in addition, AR coating was less effective due to the count error caused by the UV sensor pulse signal overlap. Therefore, it appears that it would be more effective to detect corona discharge with 5[m] or less of distance at diagnosis of power facilities by AR coating and UV sensor sensitivity.
Electrical Characteristics of ZnO Surge Arrester Elements Subjected to the Mixed DC and 60[Hz] AC Voltages

This paper deals with the electrical characteristics related to power loss, equivalent resistance, and leakage currents flowing through new and deteriorated zinc oxide(ZnO) arrester elements subjected to the mixed DC and 60[Hz] AC voltages. The test specimens were deteriorated by 8/20[
] impulse current of 2.5[kA]. The leakage current-applied voltage(
) characteristic curves of ZnO surge arrester elements were measured as a parameter of the ratio of the peak of 60[Hz] AC voltage to the peak of total voltage. As a consequence of test results, in case of the same applied voltage, the leakage currents flowing through the deteriorated ZnO arrester elements were higher than those flowing through the new ZnO surge arrester elements. The cross-over phenomenon in
curves of ZnO surge arrester elements measured as a parameter of the mixed ratio of DC and AC voltages was observed at the low current domain. The effect of DC voltage on the leakage current flowing through ZnO surge arrester elements is pronounced at the same magnitude of test voltages. In addition, the larger the applied number of 8/20[
] impulse current of 2.5[kA] is, the greater the power loss is, in particular, the more severe the power loss increases at higher applied voltages.
The Study on the Controller for Supplying Stably Power with a Stand-Alone Photovoltaic/Wind/Small Generator Hybrid Power Generation System

The object of this paper is the controller for supplying stably power in a separate house in which a hybrid electrical storage system with a stand-alone photovoltaic/wind power generation system and a small generator is applied. In the photovoltaic/wind hybrid power system used in the separate house, when only the battery is used in sunless days, the capacity of the battery is become larger. In particular, as in recent days, if cloudy days are frequent due to anomaly climate, it is difficult to estimate the number of sunless days. Accordingly, it is preferable to build the electrical storage system that numbers of sunshineless days are to be controlled and a shortage amount of the power generation capacity is to be handled by a small generator system. In order to supply stably power of new renewable energy such as solar to any separate houses, it is preferable to reduce the capacity of battery by decreasing the number of sunless days when estimating the capacity of battery and to drive the small generator for compensation of the power shortage. Such system needs components including inverters for photovoltaic and wind power generation system, batteries and controllers for automatically driving the small generator, based upon the nature of the stand-alone house, and it is preferable to use the controller having a simpler and higher stability by adopting the all-in-one scheme to facilitate its maintenance.
Characteristics of Transient State and Stress of Three-Phase Switched Trans Z-Source DC/AC Power Converter

When typical Z-source DC/AC inverter(ZSI) is operated in high voltage gain area, because of its high duty ratio, voltage and current stress in Z-network of typical ZSI are increased. This paper proposes a new switched trans ZSI(STZSI) with two switched trans cells which consist of one trans and two diodes. To confirm the operation performance of the proposed system, the PSIM simulation is performed for typical ZSI, switched inductor ZSI and the proposed STZSI. Voltage / current stress and transient state characteristics of each method are compared under the condition of DC input voltage 100[V] and output phase voltage 66[Vrms]. As a result, we confirmed that transient state of the proposed STZSI is short compared with the conventional ZSI because the high voltage gain is obtained using the same duty ratio, also a low duty ratio is required for the same output voltage. Finally, we could know the proposed system have low voltage and current stress in Z-network compared with the conventional ZSI.
A Study on Switched Reluctance Motor Driving using Commutator

This paper presents the novel design and implementation of a switched reluctance motor with commutator. Unlike typical switched reluctance motor, this motor doesn't require semi-conductor devices and inverter circuits for driving. Instead, the brushes and commutator can make rotating field for driving the switched reluctance motor. Moreover, because this motor has no magnet, the total cost for manufacturing the motor is very cheap. In order to verify the usability of the proposed motor, the authors manufactured the prototype motor, and showed the torque-speed curve of the motor.
A Study on the Comparison of the Vibration Data in Cast Resin Transformer According to the Load Type

In this study, vibration characteristics in according to the load type of cast resin transformer using vibration measurement device were compared. Measurement conditions are the same installation and operation of the three-phase cast resin transformer. If the load increases in transformer using the rotating machinery, the frequency is growing. In the transformer using the lighting and heating loads, it's detected the 55 [
] in or outside and 120 [
] or more at 60[Hz], the 30 [
] in or outside at 120[Hz], and the 70 [
] in or outside at 420[Hz]. When increases the loads, it's appeared the 60 [
] or less at 450[Hz] or more in rotating machinery, but the velocity of lighting and lighting loads are appeared from 5[
] to 115[
] inside the 420[Hz] in the same load condition of 20[%]. Through this study, it's verified that there are differences the internal vibration in according to the type of load in cast resin transformer.
Flashover Characteristics of Air in the Arrangement of Cylinder-Shaped Rod and Plane Electrode in Case of Flame on the Plane Electrode

In this paper, flashover characteristics of air in the vertical arrangement of cylinder-shaped rod and plane gap in the case of combustion flame on the plane electrode were examined under the application of a.c. and d.c. high-voltages. In order to investigate the effect of propane flame on the flashover characteristics of air, flashover voltages in accordance with the variation of the gap length and the horizontal distance between the flame and the high-voltage rod electrode were measured. As the result of the experiment, flashover voltages in the presence of the flame were substantially lowered than those in the absence of flame, and the polarity effects with the d.c. voltages on appeared owing to the flame. Flashover voltages of air were increased in the proportion of the gap length and the horizontal distance in the case of both a.c. and d.c. voltages, but the flame was extinguished by such corona wind that was produced from the rod electrode when the gap length and the horizontal distance reached to a certain degree.
A Trend Analysis on Professional Engineer Examination and Reflection to a College Academic Curriculum - Focused on Generation/Transmission/Distribution Subdiscipline of Electrical Engineering -

The government has pushed ahead with the establishment of a connection system among education-task-qualification with regards to the promotion of engineering industry, but there has been a lack of pertinent data. In this regard, this study investigated the ways of connecting universities' engineering education with Electrical Professional Engineer examination. The results show that the tendency of questions consists of 30[%] of transmission, 16[%] of basic theory, 14[%] of transformer, 14[%] of generation, 9[%] of new technology, 11[%] of other relevant fields. This study also presents a survey on the relationship between the engineer's license and college curriculum. The curriculum of Electrical Engineering Department of a leading National University in Seoul is investigated in relation to the Examination. Some learning materials for successful completion of the university curriculum and acquisition of the Professional Engineer license are also recommended.
