A study of light output characteristics with various refractive indices and geometrical structures of the GaN based light-emitting device encapsulants

In this paper, we improved the light extraction efficiency by structural change of LEDs on conventional LEDs. We simulated the LEDs light emission as functions of LED side wall angle, various refractive indices the geometrical structures and analyzed the condition improved the light efficiency. We present the results of experimerns and simulations for light output power from LEDs for various refractive indices and the geometrical structures of the LED encapsulants. When the side wall angle range was from 40[
] to 30[
], the LED emission increased. LED side wall angle onto LED using the simulation system with a fine tuning of the structure of the LEDs side wall angle is fabricated. Additionally, we changed the side wall angle of LED package with spherical structure and flat structure. The result of spherical structure ray tracting is higher compared with flat structure about 14[%].
Adaptive Fuzzy Neuro Controller for Speed Control of Induction Motor

This paper is proposed the adaptive fuzzy neuro controller(AFNC) for high performance of induction motor drive. The design of this algorithm based on the AFNC that is implemented using fuzzy controller(FC) and neural network(NN). This controller uses fuzzy rule as training patterns of a NN. Also, this controller adjusts the weights between the neurons of NN to minimize the error between the command output and the actual output using the back-propagation method. The control performance of the AFNC is evaluated by analysis in various operating conditions. The results of analysis prove that the proposed control system has high performance and robustness to parameter variation, and steady-state accuracy and transient response.
Development of Charger/Discharger to Test Performance for EDLC

With the increase of consumption of new renewable energy, the use of Electric Double Layer Capacitor(EDLC) is being gradually widened as the next generation energy storage device. In order to expand the market of EDLC which is recently receiving a lot of attraction as a new promising area, development of a charge/discharge cycle tester to measure and test performance, is essential. Therefore, this research designed a circuit to measure capacity and internal resistance and a circuit to measure voltage maintenance properties, based on EDLC's basic charging/discharging properties so it is able to measure the state of charge and discharge at high speed. When evaluating performance characteristics, the 5[V]/100[A] prototype-EDLC charge/discharge testing system developed for this research showed
[%] of accuracy of voltage and current measurement. It was also proved that the developed charge/discharge testing system for EDLC can be applied to the actual industry, when testing the entire system using a program produced for data monitoring and acquisition.
Service Oriented Architecture based Single Line Diagram Auto-drawing Technique in Distribution Automation Systems

A single line diagram is a graphic user interface to represent electrical connectivity between power equipments in distribution automation systems. This paper proposes a new single line auto-drawing technique based on the service oriented architecture. Web service, CIM(Common Information Model) and SVG(Scalable Vector Graphics) are adopted to implement SOA concept. A web service demo system was established which is configured with the service provider, consumer and broker to verify the feasibility of this study.
Study on Analysis of Suitable Site for Development of Floating Photovoltaic System

Recently, interests in renewable energy have gradually increased. Photovoltaic system of various renewable energy is the most interest in power sources. Nowadays, the market of photovoltaic system is expected to be expanded due to the introduction of RPS(Renewable Portfolio Standard). Floating photovoltaic system is a new power system using the water surface above the dam and reservoir water. Floating photovoltaic system is different from the traditional approach to the development of solar power system causing problems such as environmental degradation. This paper investigates the analysis methods of suitable site for the development of floating photovoltaic system. The A,B,C as the optimal candidates were selected in hap cheon dam. The C is the best suitable site in A,B,C considering the expected power generation. Applied methods have effectively done to develop floated photovoltaic system.
2D Analysis Approach Method of a Small BLDC Motor Having Permanent Magnet Overhang Structure

This paper deals with the characteristic analysis of small power brushless DC (BLDC) motor considering the rotor magnet overhang flux. In the driving characteristics analysis using 2D FEA (Finite Element Analysis), the rotor magnet overhang effect can't be considered and it should be neglected. To consider rotor magnet overhang effect, 3D FEA should be required. But 3D FEA requires very long calculation time even though the high specification computer is used. In this paper, the 3D electromagnetic model of BLDC motor is approximated as the 2D electromagnetic model considering overhang effect. In this paper, the concept of overhang coefficient is applied, and the coefficient according to load torque variance is deduced.
A Study on the Effect of Resonant Coil Size and Load Resistance on the Transmission Efficiency of Magnetic Resonance Wireless Power Transfer System

In this paper, the wireless power transfer system using the magnetic resonance was designed and the effect of resonant coil radius and load resistance to this system was analyzed by the circuit analysis method. As a result, the calculated transmitted-power is similar to measured one, and the coil size has a small effect to the coupling coefficients in the resonant frequency band. In addition, the fact that the calculated transmitted-power according to the source frequency is similar to measured one confirms that the circuit analysis methode in this paper is valid. The input side transmission efficiency
including only the loss in the power transfer circuit is almost 90[%] with the large coil in the 10[cm] transfer distance, and 65[%] with the small coil in 1[cm]. The source side transmission efficiency
is 30~40[%] at both coil when load resistance below 4.7[
] has been connected. Considering that the maximum
is 50[%], this is valid in the practical applications.
Effect of the Interconnected Solar Power Generation System on the Power Quality of Power System

In this study, we have investigated the effect of the solar power generation facilities on the power quality of interconnected solar power generation system. When the solar power generation facility was connected to the distribution system, whether the solar power generation is under operation or not, Peak factor of current was increased to 0.033[%], Frequency is deviated from
[Hz] and also Short term flicker indication(
) increased to 0.213[p.u.] compare with the disconnected situation. Harmonic current [%] in orders was 11.42[%] maximum under 11th orders and was 7.861[%] between 11th and 17th orders. These values were about 3 or 4 times compared with "the power system interconnection technique standards" at the same situation above. Therefore, we could confirmed that the solar power generation facility, when it was connected to the existing distribution system, made bad influence on the power qualities such as the peak factor of current, frequency regulation, short term flicker indication(
) and harmonic current [%] in orders etc.
Design of New Current Full-Bridge Resonant Inverter for Induction Heating System

There are two types of inverters that are generally used in induction heating systems: voltage type inverters and high-frequency half-bridge inverters. This paper proposes a new resonant inverter for induction heating systems using the current type full-bridge method. The proposed method can remove capacitors at the input end, and enables unity power factor operation by preventing phase differences of voltage and current. Furthermore, Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) which is in tune with current type inverter can be adopted and continuous power adjustment is possible through duty ratio changes and frequency modulation in switching operation. Simulations and experiments showed that the proposed current type full-bridge resonant inverter could be used for unity power factor control and ZVS operation in induction heating systems.
Algorithm for Preventing Malfunction and Reclosing in Grid-Connected PV Systems

In general, the unidirectional power flow is normal in distribution feeders before activation of distributed power source such as PV. However, the interactive power flow is likely to occur in case of the power system under distributed generation. This interactive power flow can cause an unexpected effect on convectional protection coordination systems designed based only on the unidirectional power flow system. When the power line system encounters a problem, the interactive power flow can be a contributed current source and this makes the fault current bigger or smaller compared to the unidirectional case. The effect of interactive power flow is varied depending on the location of the point to ground fault, relative location of the PV, and connection method. Therefore it is important to analyse characteristics of fault current and interactive flow for various transformer connection and location of the PV. This paper proposes a method of improved protection coordination which can be adopted in the protective device for customers in distribution feeders interconnected with the PV. The proposed method is simulated and analysed using PSCAD/EMTDC under various conditions.
An Improvement of Optical Fiber Composite Power Cable On-Line Monitoring System for Underground Distribution Network

Since power system is switching to smart grid, on-line monitoring technology has become necessary for underground distribution power cable. Therefore, the application of DTS(Distributed Temperature Sensing) technology using OFCPC(Optical Fiber Composite Power Cable) capable of monitoring underground distribution power cables has been developed. These can bring about reductions in faults and increases in operating capacity of underground distribution system. To date, the test-bed of optical fiber composite power cable on-line monitoring system has been constructed. Then, matters to be improved have been drawn through verification experiments. This paper presents the improvement and experiment results of the optical fiber composite power cable on-line monitoring system to apply to underground distribution lines in the field.
Design and Control of Solenoid for Pressure Valve for Electric Pressure Cooker

In this paper, design by magnetic analysis software and proportional control of solenoid for pressure valve for electric pressure cooker is described. The validation of design was proved by 3D finite element analysis results. Also the efficiency of an air ventilation mechanism was considered when pressure was happened by fluid analysis results. The linear proportional control system by AVR was manufactured and its validation was proved by pressure control of solenoid.
Optimization of DC Operating Voltage for GDT-Adopted SPD

It is made compulsory to install SPD for the purpose of protecting electric and electronic devices when an abnormal voltage such as lightning occurs to power line using power frequency of 60Hz. Recently, the high speed communication technology utilizing power line is receiving attention again as a communication technology for smart grid. The SPD influences the performances of power line communication when using SPD and power line communication system together. In order to improve the performance of power line communication, a proposed scheme for series connection of gas discharge tube to ZnO varistor was presented. This paper measured the impacts of series connection of GDT to SPD using ZnO varistor on the limit voltage of Class III SPD. This paper also presented the DC operating voltage of GDT which satisfies the limit voltage of power line communication system and SPD simultaneously.
An Inquire into Test Bed Compositions in Assessing the Security of a Soft Redundancy Sub-Station System with Auto-Restoration

Sub-station, key equipment in electric power infrastructure, are being exposed to increasing risk of hacking. For this, soft redundancy sub-station system needs to be formulated with automatic restoration mechanism. For this it is important to assess the reliability of the applicable range of data that are used in actual system operation, as well as the methods and findings of the tests. At the same time performance of soft redundancy system and total security mechanism, which are aligned for the protection of the sub-station, need to be tested. For testing the above-mentioned, this paper presented a viable formation of a soft redundancy practical VPN system within a panel to protect the latter from hacking or cracking incidences, and conducts a test to check if the considered system actually serves the protection function in the actual operation setting, gathering evidence from the data from the testing of the actual performance of the system as well as of emergency scenario simulation operations. Because tested soft-redundancy & restorative sub-station system is expected to be widely applicable for various cases such as Smart-grid or electricity IT system, where VPN with enhanced level of security is required.
