A Development of a LED Stand Using Illuminance Sensor for Efficient Energy Saving

In this paper, we present a new lighting control method considering ambient light in addition to the required lighting illumination for efficient energy saving of a LED stand. We estimate accurate environmental illuminance using a cheap illuminance sensor by modeling measured- and actual-illuminance using quadratic polynomial approximation. The relation between PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) duty ratio and illuminance intensity is modeled by a linear model. Illumination of the LED stand is controlled by estimating the difference of required illumination and the estimated ambient illumination. The developed LED stand has reduced electric energy consumption compared with a conventional manually controlled LED stand with the same lighting source. In addition, human subject evaluation shows that the LED stand, which is applied the proposed method, is more satisfactory than conventional ones since the proposed automatic controlled illumination produce more accurately required lighting and it is convenient.
High Performance Control of LED Drive System for LCD Backlight

This paper proposes high performance control of light emitting diode(LED) drive system for liquid crystal display(LCD) backlight. The CCFL(cold cathode fluorescent lamp)was used to a conventional LCD backlight. Due to improvement on luminous efficiency, long life and wide color gamut, LED has gradually substituted for CCFL as backlight. The backlight using LED is necessary to use many LED. For that reason, the LED backlight is using a lot of LED driving circuits. The many LED driving circuit is generated a current deviation between LED. Eventually, it is caused brightness deviation between LED. Therefore, this paper improves the current deviation using transformer and balancing capacitor to solve this problem. Also, for accurate and uniform brightness control, this paper is applied the artificial intelligent control to a dimming control. This paper is compared with conventional system, and validity of this paper proves through that result.
Development of the Power Conversion Controller for Electric Vehicle

Recently, the depletion of fossil fuel carbon dioxide emissions due to limitations in the internal combustion engine vehicles is rising concern about electric vehicle. Neighborhood Electric Vehicle(NEV) is maximum speed 60km/h and one day driving distances less than 80km. In this paper, Power Conversion Controller is proposed for Neighborhood Electric Vehicle. To verify the developed Power conversion Controller, Test performed integration test, max load, power density, efficiency. Confirmed that the vehicle can be applied.
Analysis on the Hot-spot Temperature Location of a 24MVA Cast Resin Transformer by FEM

This paper calculates the core and copper losses as heating sources of a 24MVA cast resin transformer, and analyzes the thermal distribution of the transformer to find out its hot-spot area by FEM program. Since the winding of the transformer is composed with many series and parallel circuits, the analyzing model of the winding is simplified and modelled by axi-symmetric domain. As the results, the maximum temperature is estimated by
in the upper part of the low-voltage winding. The maximum temperature has discrepancy of approximately
, which is able to be considered as an acceptable error range in the design stage of power transformers. For the overall pattern of the temperature distribution is almost same as test results, the analyzing method can be a useful tool to find out a hot-spot area of the winding.
Designed and Performance Analysis of High Efficiency Concentrated Photovoltaic System using III-V Compound Semiconductor

For photovoltaic power generation need certainly decreasing module's price and increasing promote efficiency technology. Almost of solar panel is on the decrease energy efficiency since 2,000. like silicone(Si) solar panel, thin film solar panel and etc. Silicone(Si) solar panel was best efficiency in 1999. It's 24%. But after that time, It didn't pass limit of energy efficiency. That's why, nowadays being issued that using III-V compound semiconductor to high efficiency of concentrating photovoltaic system for making an alternative proposal. In Korea, making researches in allied technology with III-V compound semiconductor solar panel, condenser technology, and solar tracker. but feasibility study for concentrating photovoltaic power generation hasn't progressed yet. This thesis made a plan about CPV(Concentrating Photovoltaic)system and CPV has a higher energy efficiency than PV(Photovoltaic)system in fine climate conditions from comparing CPV with using silicone(Si) solar panel to PV's efficiency test result.
The Torque Characteristics Analysis of the Single-Phase Switched Reluctance Motor According to the Starting Method

The single-phase switched reluctance motor(SRM) has only one inductance variation and the positive torque is generated in the restricted section. So, it cannot be started by itself. To solve this problem, many researchers have addressed the several starting method for the single-phase SRM. This paper is focused on the torque characteristics of the single-phase SRM according to starting method. The four major starting method - permanent magnet, saturable stator pole, to grade the rotor, stepped rotor pole - is selected to analyze the torque characteristics. The analysis model of each starting method is designed to changed the pole shape or inserting other material in the basic model. The torque characteristics of each analysis model is obtained by using FEM analysis. The FEM analysis is performed at incremental rotor positions over half inductance cycle in any one pole with 250AT, 500AT, 750AT. The distortion factor of each analysis model is analyzed through the FFT to compare the distortion between basic model and four analysis model.
Variable Charger of Vehicle using Relay

This research is to develop satiable battery charger with a variety of capacity and voltage specifications of battery. For this, voltage or current were controlled through buck converter which is DC voltage that already received three-phase at primary side and passed bridge rectifier diode. And, it was comprised of full-bridge converter and HFTR for insulation and a square wave AC. The transformer primary side was comprised in series to divide certain charging current and the secondly side was comprised of 6 fixed transformers so that they can generate certain amount of power and various output voltage through relay parallel compound 6 DC Link outputs. To confirm such structure's verification and validity, simulation with PSIM was conducted, and validity of proposed variable charger system was verified through 3kW stack production.
The Variations of Grounding Resistance of the Vertical Electrodes by Soil Models

The basic purpose of grounding is for human safety and normal operation of system related to electrical shock hazard by faults of electrical equipments. A grounding electrode is defined as a conducting element that connects electrical systems and/or equipment to the earth. The lowest possible resistance connection to the earth is sought from the grounding electrode. The grounding electrode is the foundation of the electrical safety system. The resistance to ground of vertical electrodes buried in the two deference soil structures has been analyzed for a length of electrodes and soil parameters. The equation of ground resistance of vertical electrodes are Tagg's equation for uniform soil models, and modified equation of Dwight equation for two-layer soil model. In this paper, compared with results of two equations are calculated values of vertical electrode in uniform and two-layer soil models.
Design of Digital Governor Controller for Frequency Stability Improvement

The interest in wind power generation area such as developing and operating wind-diesel pilot complex in remote and island regions that have difficulty in having power plant and connecting to power system is growing rapidly in the world. We have installed and researched the hybrid system in Sekgok Pilot Complex to meet the new generation system. From the monitored data of the system, the performance of each diesel power plant is outstanding. However, step out problem was detected with respect to load sharing and synchronization with decentralized power supply. An advanced controller design having better response time and stability is needed to solve such problem. In this paper, we proposed the algorithm, through digital controller of Governor, which is applied to hybrid system. As a result, we obtained the stable frequency value in variable loading conditions. Also, we proved the advanced response time and stability through the simulation and experiment by applying additional current signal to the control algorithm.
Improvement of Neural Network Performance for Estimating Defect Size of Steam Generator Tube using Multifold Cross-Validation

In this paper, we study on how to determine the number of hidden layer neurons in neural network for predicting defect size of steam generator tube. It was reported in the literature that the number of hidden layer neurons can be efficiently determined with the help of cross-validation. Although the cross-validation provides decent estimation performance in most cases, the performance depends on the selection of validation set and rather poor performance may be led to in some cases. In order to avoid such a problem, we propose to use multifold cross-validation. Through the simulation study, it is shown that the estimation performance of defect width (defect depth, respectively) attains 94% (99.4%, respectively) of the best performance achievable among the considered neuron numbers.
