Kim, Soo-Gil ;
Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 1~6
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.001
It is introduced the phase error sources of a incoherent hologram in incoherent triangular holography and derived the reconstruction image of point-source including the phase error in the lateral direction. From the reconstruction image of point-source, we analyzed the effect of phase error on the lateral resolution. When the phase retardation errors and azimuth angle error of a wave plate and a polarizer range from 0 to
, the normalized intensities of reconstructed images are down by about 0.1% and 2.3%, respectively.

Cho, Sook-Hyun ; Kim, Hoon ;
Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 7~13
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.007
There has been a need for the systematic evaluation of the economic efficiency between conventional fluorescent lamp lighting systems that have been used in tunnels and LED lighting systems. This study has evaluated basic tunnel lighting between the conventional fluorescent lighting systems and the LED lighting system using the evaluation tool of tunnel lighting by Life Cycle Cost (LCC) and using the economic efficiency evaluation method. In addition, the unit discount rate of the LED lighting system and the estimated increase in the price of electricity have made the estimated cost of LCC the same if two luminaires were used in the basic part of the tunnel.

Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 14~19
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.014
Tunnel lighting design and operation are both regulated based on luminance in and out of Korea these days. However, domestic tunnel lighting is operated by internal lighting depending on external brightness by using an illuminometer applying the conversion factor on luminance. The purpose of tunnel lighting is to alleviate the visual shock occurring from the rapid change from external brightness to internal brightness when entering a tunnel. However, when looking at the tunnels operated based on an illuminometer, it is not a system where the driver can measure the brightness within his or her viewing angle when entering the tunnel. It is general to install and operate the illuminometer on the roof of an administrative office near the tunnel; however, this method is not structured to connect with the internal lighting by checking the brightness of the viewing scope of the driver, thus is not structured to properly apply the viewing conditions of the driver. Rather, it should be in a method for extracting the luminance value within the viewing scope of the driver pursuant to tunnel lighting standards and in connection with internal lighting. This research seeks to find the difference between operations based on luminance and operations based on intensity of Illuminance in road tunnels through field measuring, and to suggest the necessity of operating based on luminance with the resulting value.

Ko, Jae-Sub ; Chung, Dong-Hwa ;
Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 20~26
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.020
This paper proposes the maximum power point tracking(MPPT) control of photovoltaic system using fuzzy based variable step size perturbation & observation(FVSS-PO) method. Conventional PO and incremental conductance(IC)MPPT control algorithm generally uses fixed step size. A small fixed step size will cause the tracking speed to decrease and tracking accuracy of the MPP will decrease due to large fixed step size. Therefore, the fixed step size can't be satisfying both the tracking speed and the tracking accuracy. This paper proposes FVSS-PO MPPT algorithm that adjusts automatically step size of PO by fuzzy control according to operating conditions. The validity of MPPT algorithm proposed in this paper prove through compare with conventional PO MPPT algorithm.
A Novel Hybrid Anti-islanding Method to Improve Reliability of Utility Interactive Inverter for a PMSG-based Wind Power Generation System
Kang, Sung-Wook ; Kim, Kyeong-Hwa ;
Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 27~36
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.027
Islanding in a gird connected inverter of wind power generation system may influence a bad effect on equipments or yield safety hazards on grid so it should be detected rapidly and exactly. A passive method to detect islanding is comparatively simpler than an active method but suffers from non detection zone (NDZ). On the other hand, the active method can significantly reduce NDZ by injecting a disturbance into inverter output. To improve the reliability of islanding detection, this paper proposes a hybrid anti-islanding detection method combining the conventional passive method as well as the active method based on novel harmonic injection method using fourier transform. The proposed scheme is fast to detect islanding when NDZ does not exist because it has the nature of passive method. Under NDZ, the active method can detect occurrence of islanding reliably. The effectiveness and validity of the proposed scheme is proved through comparative simulations.

Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 37~46
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.037
This paper proposes the boost type bidirectional zero current switching(ZCS) DC/DC converter of transformer series construction for electric vehicle operation using low voltage battery. This converter can high boost through the double voltage circuit and series construction of output part using two converters. This converter system has the advantages that bidirectional power transfer is excellent, size and making of transformer because of this converter keeps the transformation ratio to 1:1. Proposed DC/DC converter uses the ZCS method to decrease the switching loss. By replacing reactance ingredients of L-C resonance circuit for ZCS with leakage inductance ingredients of high frequency transformer and half-bridge capacitor it reduces system size and expense because of not add special reactor. It can confirm to output of high voltage to operate the electric vehicle with low voltage of input and operation of ZCS in all load region through the result of PSIM simulation and experiment.

Hong, Seong-Cheol ; Lee, Haiyoung ;
Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 47~56
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.047
Rolling speed, roll gap, and cooling pattern in hot strip finishing mill process should be determined before inserting strip into roll. Such parameters are initially calculated by a mathematical set-up model. The technique to find adequate roll speed via a mathematical model has inherently limit because required working conditions are various and rolling process is nonlinear. To improve the accuracy of initial rolling speed for a finishing mill, this paper suggests a correction technology for initial rolling speed. The proposed method was implemented in hot strip mill process. As the results, the magnitude of width error in strip head-end part caused by excessive strip tension was decreased remarkably.

Hong, Won-Pyo ;
Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 57~68
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.057
The market for distributed power generation based on renewable energy is increasing, particularly for standalone mini-grid applications in developing countries with limited energy resources. Stand-alone power systems (SAPS) are of special interest combined with renewable energy design in areas not connected to the electric grid. Traditionally, such systems have been powered by diesel engine generator sets (DEGS), but also hybrid systems with photovoltaic and/or wind energy conversion systems (WECS) are becoming quite common nowadays. Hybrid energy systems can now be used to generate energy consumed in remote areas and stand-alone microgrids. This paper describes the design, simulation and feasibility study of a hybrid energy system for a stand-alone power system. A simulated model is developed to investigate the design and performance of stand-alone hydrogen renewable energy systems. The analysis presented here is based on transient system simulation program (TRNSYS) with realistic ventilation load of a large store. Design of a hybrid energy system is site specific and depends on the resources available and the load demand.

Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 69~75
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.069
This paper proposes a new algorithm for the optimal placement of a step voltage regulator(SVR) in distribution system with Distributed Generators(DG) using a Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO). The objective function of this algorithm is to find optimal placement for minimum loss while maintaining each node voltage fluctuations within upper and lower limits. In the objective function of proposed algorithm, the deviations to reference voltage and the distribution loss are considered. To verify effectiveness of the proposed method, simulation is implemented using MATLAB.

Jung, Jae-Seung ; Kim, Hyung-Pyo ; Kim, Jin-Gyu ;
Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 76~81
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.076
In this paper, a corona motor with blade type electrodes has been employed as a wind blower. The rotation speed was influenced significantly by the polarity of applied voltage and the number of blades. Therefore the effect of polarity of applied voltage and the number of blades on the electrical and mechanical fundamental properties of corona motor were investigated experimentally. The rotation speed decreased for increasing of number of blades, because the mass of blades increased. But the amount of air blow increased despite decreasing of the rotation speed, because air volume is not only influenced by rotation speed but also the number of blades and ionic wind which generated between blade tips and a induction electrode. Although space occupied by blades of the corona motor is smaller than the whole area of the blast pipe, wind rises a whole range of a wind blower for such reasons.

Shim, Hae-Sup ; Lee, Bok-Hee ;
Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 82~88
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.082
It is important to give lightning warning prior to a cloud-to-ground (CG) discharge within an Area of Concern (AOC) because most of lightning damage and victim are usually occurred by the first lightning in the AOC. The aim of this study is to find the optimal operation conditions of the automated lightning warning systems in order to make the best use of the available data. In this paper, the test-operated results of the automated lightning alert and risk management system (ALARM) based on detections of CG discharge and eletrostatic field and optimized at probability of lightning have been described. It was possible to obtain the following warning performance parameters: probability of detection (POD), false alarm ratio (FAR), probability of lightning (POL) and failure-to-warn rate (FTW). The data obtained from trial operation for 5months were not sufficient but the first analysis of domestic lightning warning was carried out. We have observed that the evaluated statistical results through trial operation depend on the various factors such as analysis methods and criteria, topographical conditions, etc. Also we suggest some methods for improvement of POL and POD including the finding of the optimal electric field threshold level to be used, based on the high values of FAR and FTW found in this work.

Bae, In-Su ; Shin, Je-Seok ; Kim, Jin-O ;
Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 89~95
DOI : 10.5207/JIEIE.2013.27.11.089
In resent years, Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) is being actively developed. Typically, OWF has a better wind resource than onshore one, but also have a very high investment cost and maintenance cost. Furthermore, due to a difficulty of geographical access, OWF can be affected by the failure for a longer time. As the result, OWF has a higher loss cost. Therefore, a reliability evaluation should be performed more carefully at OWF planning stage. In this paper, a methodology for the reliability evaluation on inner grid is suggested. Inner grid connects wind turbines via submarine cables and transfers power to offshore substation. According to location of the faulted cable under layouts of inner grid, the transfer ability of inner grid is influenced. In order to indicate the transfer ability of inner grid, several indices are introduced such as PNDR, EEND and EENDC. To demonstrate the methodology described in this paper, diversity case studies were performed.

Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, volume 27, issue 11, 2013, Pages 96~103

In this paper, resonant wireless power transfer systems are designed with double loop resonant coils for the resonant frequency of 150kHz. The transfer efficiency characteristics is analyzed according to the coil size, and the distance and misalignment between the coils. Then the change in efficiency is investigated when a human model is located between the resonant coils using the homogeneous human phantom of IEC-62311 standard. Also, in order to assess the safety of the wireless power transfer system, the induced current density inside the human model is calculated when it is exposed to the magnetic field of a plane wave and resonant coil. Then, the results are compared with the exposure limits in the EMF (electromagnetic field) safety guidelines.
