Improvement of Color Temperature Uniformity of Integrated Optic Lens Type LED Packaged using Compression Molding Method

Optical characteristics including the view angle and color temperature uniformity of LED packages with an integrated lens fabricated by compression molding method are investigated according to lens shape, lens materials, and phosphor coating methods. Four types of lens shape are designed and their optical output power dependence on the refractive index of silicone encapsulant are evaluated. Also, spatial color temperature uniformities of packages fabricated with different phosphor coating methods-direct coating on a chip vs. uniformly mixed with silicone encapsulant- are compared at various view angles. As the result, it is found that phosphor coating method is more effective on color temperature uniformity than lens shape. The maximum color temperature difference of a package with direct coating of phosphor on a chip is 1,340K according to the view angle at the color temperature of 5,000K, and that of a package with uniformly mixed phosphor is 250K, which indicates 1,090K improvement of color uniformity for the latter case.
DC-link Voltage Ripple Compensation Method for Single Phase 3-level PWM Converters

This paper proposes a DC-link voltage variation compensation method for a 3-level single phase converter for high-speed trains. Since 3-level NPC(Neutral Point Clamped) type converters have the split DC-link causing the inherent problem of voltage fluctuations in the upper and lower capacitors, reducing the voltage difference between the top and bottom capacitors is required. In this paper, compensation time proportional to the voltage difference is added to PWM switching time to solve the voltage variation. The compensation time is obtained by a PI controller. Simulation results demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.
Development of a Method to Analyze Voltage Sag Monitoring Data

This paper presents a method to analyze the voltage sag data obtained from monitoring systems. In order to establish effective countermeasures against voltage sag problems, an assessment of the system performance with respect to voltage sags is needed. Generally, the average annual sag frequency can be estimated by using the recorded voltage sag events for several years. However, the simple average value can not give the information about the errors of estimation. Such an average estimation is not useful for establishing effective solutions for voltage sag problems. Therefore, this paper proposes an effective method based on the Interval Estimation method. The estimation of voltage sag frequency is performed by using the average frequency and Poisson probability model. The proposed method can give the expected annual sag frequency and upper one-sided bound frequency.
Decision of Maintenance Priority Order for Substation Facility through Structural Importance and Fault Analysis

Reliability Centered Maintenance(RCM) is one of most widely used methods in the modern power system to schedule a maintenance cycle and determine the priority of inspection. A precedence study for the new structure of rearranged system should be performed due to introduction of additional installation. This paper proposes a new method to evaluate the priority of maintenance and inspection of the power system facilities. In order to calculate that risk index, it is required that the reliability block diagram should be analyzed for the power system. Additionally, a fault cause analysis is also performed through the event-tree analysis.
Performance Improvement of Synchronous Generator using Exciter Control with Field Coils Parameter Estimation Technique

This paper proposes a performance improvement of synchronous generator using exciter control with field coils parameter estimation technique. In general, the generator excitation system controller uses the PID controller. When the Field winding impedance changed, the PID gains must be changed. General method is difficult to apply varying capacity of the synchronous generator. The proposed control method determine automatically measure the internal impedance of the synchronous generator`s exciter and configure the controller. This method can be applied regardless of the generator capacity. So it is possible to apply a variety of synchronous generator systems. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified by simulations and experiments.
The Influence of Permanent Magnet on the Bouncing of Latching Relay

The electrical relay in an essential part of the Smart Grid, Electrical Vehicle (EV) and LED lightning system. For these reasons, research of electrical relay is actively underway. In this paper, analyze of the relationship between the bouncing of relay contact and magnetic flux of permanent magnet. Experiment result, changes the bouncing numbers depending on the magnetic flux of the latching relay. And find the value of the magnetic flux that occurs to minimize the bouncing of the contacts. In additions, by the increasing the magnetic flux, unconditional bounce is not reduced. The bouncing number of latching relay is less than expected the armature relay for present results. Further experiments are need to prove it, bouncing on the armature relays.
Adaptive Current Control of Power LEDs Using Half-Bridge LLC Resonant Converter

In general, the LLC resonant topology consists of three stages as; square wave generator, resonant network, and rectifier network. LLC resonant converter has the time slowly varying parameters. However, the power LEDs as the load of LLC converter can be regarded as fast time varying parameters. In this paper, the mathematical model of half-bridge resonant converter including with the power LEDs is introduced for the current controller design model. Using this controller design model, the parameter adaptive output feedback controller will be designed to control the power LEDs current. In order to show the validities of the proposed model, the parameter adaptive output feedback controller, the experimental investigation will be presented.
A Study of Electrical and Optical Method of Safety Standards for diagnosis of Power Facility using UV-IR Camera

UV-IR camera is being used for predictive maintenance of high voltage equipment together with measurement of temperature on localized heat and corona discharge. This paper was suggested the judgement method that is the discharge count, UV image pattern and discharge matching rate to apply the UV-IR camera on power facility. The discharge count method is counted by UV image pixel value. the UV image pattern method is determined by the UV image shape using neural network algorithm method, separated by Sunflower, Jellyfish, Ameba. The UV discharge matching is compare the breakdown the UV image size and measuring UV image size according to distance.
A Robust Control Scheme of Linear Induction Machine for Automatic Picking System Using Mass Estimation and Disturbance Force Observer

To operate an automatic picking system in distribution center with high precision and high dynamics, this paper presents a robust control scheme of a linear induction motor (LIM) using the mass estimation and disturbance force observer. The force disturbance which gives a direct influence on the control performance of LIM is estimated in real-time through the disturbance observer and compensated by a feedforward manner. To get a satisfactory performance even under the mass variation by reducing the disturbance force due to the mismatched mass during the speed transient such as the acceleration and deceleration periods, a mass estimation algorithm is proposed. A Simulink model for LIM is developed and the validity of the proposed scheme is verified through the comparative simulation studies using Matlab - Simulink.
Breakdown Characteristics of Air in the Gap between Line Conductor and Plane Electrode in Case of Combustion Flame on the Plane Electrode

Breakdown characteristics of air in the vertical arrangement of line conductor and plane electrode in case of combustion flame on the plane electrode are examined by the application of AC. and DC voltages to the gap. In order to investigate the effect of paraffin flame on the breakdown characteristics of air, flashover voltages are measured according to the variation of the gap length and the horizontal distance between the flame and the line conductor. As the result of the experiment, flashover voltages are substantially lowered down to 29.8% in case of the AC voltage, and 16.1% in case of the negative DC voltage, when in the presence of the flame. from 100% when in the absence of flame. Flashover voltages of air in the range of smaller than 3㎝ at the horizontal distance are increased in the proportion of the gap length and the horizontal distance in case of both AC and negative DC voltages. But before the flashover occurs, the flame is extinguished by such corona wind that is produced from the line conductor when the gap length and the horizontal distance reach to a certain degree. The effect of relative air density and the phenomenon of thermal ionization are analysed as the reduction factors of flashover voltages, due to high temperature of the flame.
A Study on the Present State and Consistent use of Terminologies Concerning Grounding

A grounding scheme is one of important parts in protection for safety of electrical installations. Terminologies are successively creating and gradually increasing due to diversity and external environments. The declaration and definition of terminologies concerning grounding are in disorder in several KS standards, electrotechnical provisions for electrical installations and electrotechnical guides related to electrical installations. There seem to be serious confusions in use among technicians and experts. In this paper, we proposed a new scheme and system to consistently use the technical terms concerning grounding described in KS standards and technical provisions. Different use examples and the present state of terminologies on grounding described in Korean documents such as KS IEC standards, technical provisions for electrical installations, consumer`s electrical installation guide, and etc are investigated. Although the scope of this work is limited to examine the terminologies on grounding, it is expected that the proposed method could be contributed to the consistent use of terminologies in all areas in KS C IEC standards and technical provisions for electrical installations.
Parallel Operation of Three-Phase Four wire UPS using Droop Control

A new droop control method which can be applied to 3-phase 4-wire uninterruptible power supply is proposed in this paper. The droop control method for parallel operation is very attractive one as UPS parallel operation can be carried out without any data communication devices provided among UPS systems connected, but it reportedly shows a PnP(plug-and-play) problem. A basic reason why a circulating current could flow among parallel-connected UPS systems is clearly investigated as well when droop-controlled-ups systems are operated in the manner of PnP. The proposed algorithm is deduced from the investigated result and is basically structured to keep a balanced frequency and balanced voltage profile against power variation. This paper shows that balanced parallel operation of droop control method can be obtained under unbalanced load as well as balanced load conditions when PnP operation is needed and load change occurs.
