A Study on the Characteristics of the Color Perception of Chinese People : Focused on a Comparison of the Characteristics of Color Perception among Korean, Chinese and Japanese People

The purpose of this study is investigate the characteristics of color perception among Chinese people, and compare the characteristics among Korean, Chinese and Japanese people, using Munsell color space. The results are as follows: 1) Chinese people were more likely to tell accurately red, yellow red, yellow, purple, and an achromatic color, but did not do accurately green yellow, blue, and purple blue. In terms of a comparison of average perceived color and standard color, there were significant differences among green yellow, blue green, and blue and standard color; 2) Color perceptions of Korean, Chinese and Japanese people were broadly classified into four types. Also, of ten chromatic colors, the color perception type of only two colors, red and yellow, were is same among the groups of the three countries. However, the color perception type of yellow red, green, blue green and blue were different among them; and 3) In terms of a color perception accuracy test among the groups of the three countries, there were not significant differences between yellow and purple and standard color. However, significant differences existed between the rest of the colors and standard color.
Analysis of the Effect on Attention and Relaxation Level by Correlated Color Temperature and Illuminance of LED Lighting using EEG Signal

Preferred combinations of illuminance and color temperature of lighting depend on daily living activities. We investigated whether the illumination stimuli of LED lighting can enhance attention and relaxation level by controlling color temperature and illuminance level according to activities. Illuminations and color temperatures of LED flat panels are controlled in accordance with activities such as office work and resting. The attention and relaxation level under the task specific lightings are compared with those under normal lighting condition. Single channel EEG signals from the NeuroSky`s Mindset are used to estimate attention and relaxation level of human subjects under different lighting conditions. Experiment results show that high color temperature with high illuminance of LED lightings (6600K, 800lx) shows improved attention level compared with conventional lighting conditions (4000K, 500lx).
A Study on the Limit Analysis of the LED Lighting Subsidy Program Considering the Perspective of Individual Building Clients

Various DSM (Demand Side Management) programs have been developed and carried out to use the limited energy resources of human-beings reasonably. LED lighting is one of essential DSM programs and the development of technologies is ongoing vigorously. Recently, one-person households have been increased and the electricity consumption pattern is different with conventional households because residents live as a single. On the other hand, owners of the one-person households tend to not prefer to install high efficient appliances due to the cost increasement. Therefore, the existing DSM subsidy programs should be revaluated so that the owners decide to install high efficient appliances.
The Reduction Method of Strings Current Unbalancing in LED Lighting Driving System

The LED has the proportional characteristic between the flux of light and its current and has caused voltage-current deviation on production process. Thus the unbalancing of each LED strings current occurred by its characteristic deviation. This unbalancing reduce a uniformity of the flux of light. Therefore, we researched to design method the LED driver based on DSP and the balancing transformer for a LED current balancing. These are applied to 50W LED module consist of 4 parallel strings. We analyzed the reduction of LED currents unbalance by experimental result from each method.
Understanding Governor Droop of Turbine-Generator through Graph and Proportional Expression

This paper presents a simpler calculation of the generator load sharing according to the change of system frequency and the droop setting of turbine-generator governor. The author firstly draws a graph based on the generator operation at rated MW output and normal frequency, and secondly, builds a proportional expression using the graph in order to obtain the solution in a simpler way rather than using conventional mathematical calculation, to provide the readers with an easier understanding of the droop setting of turbine-generator governor.
A Study on the Maintenance Plan Considering Maintenance Cycle of Wind Turbine Component

Wind power is one of the fastest growing renewable energy sources. In these days, wind turbine shifts from onshore to offshore because the offshore wind farm has a abundant wind resource. However, offshore wind turbine is not easy to access, it has a long downtime when the failures of the wind turbine component occur. Therefore, the appropriate wind turbine maintenance plan is required to meet the economic and reliability of the components. This paper proposes the maintenance planning method based on the RCM(Reliability Centered Maintenance) to determine an economical maintenance cycle to satisfy the appropriate reliability of the wind turbine components. In order to compare the proposed method with the conventional RCM method, critical components are selected in the case study because they have a long downtime and a large amount of total cost.
A Study on the Grid-Interfacing Storage System for Migrating Customers with Renewable Energy Sources into Microgrid

This paper introduces a grid-interactive storage system to operate the customers without voltage source inverters as a microgrid. The proposed storage system does not require any modification of the control scheme of the inverters existing within the customers. Novel control scheme of the grid-interfacing storage system according to its new structure ensures the seamless transition between the grid-connected and islanded operation of the microgrid.
A Safety Assessment of a Mesh Grounding System for 22.9kV Substations

There is increasing demand for practical groundings for small-area substations because of the recent revision of Korea`s Electrotechnical Regulations, which necessitates the method of evaluating their safety. This paper proposes a practical mesh grounding system for 22.9kV substations and studies how to evaluate its safety. The proposed grounding system is proved to obey the safety criteria of ANSI/IEEE Std. 80 via ANSI/IEEE Std. 80 method and computer simulation.
A Study of Smart Uninterruptible Power Supply Capable High Efficiency Drive

In this paper, a control scheme with the capability of high efficiency, which is realized by predicting the conditions of a load power and an input power, is proposed for the uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Generally, on-line UPS system supplies a constant voltage and a constant frequency (CVCF). However, the efficiency of the On-line UPS system can be reduced due to the switching losses of semiconductor devices during the power conversion. The these losses are improved by the proposed smart UPS with the high efficiency drive system, which is realized by analysing and predicting the conditions of a load power and an input power.
Performance Evaluation of a Solar Tracking PV System with Photo Sensors

The conversion of solar radiation into electrical energy by Photo-Voltaic (PV) effect is a very promising technology, being clean, silent and reliable, with very small maintenance costs and small ecological impact. The output power produced by the PV panels depends strongly on the incident light radiation. The continuous modification of the sun-earth relative position determines a continuously changing of incident radiation on a fixed PV panel. The point of maximum received energy is reached when the direction of solar radiation is perpendicular on the panel surface. Thus an increase of the output energy of a given PV panel can be obtained by mounting the panel on a solar tracking device that follows the sun trajectory. Tracking systems that have two axes and follow the sun closely at all times during the day are currently the most popular. This paper presents research conducted into the performance of Solar tracking system with photosensors. The results show that an optimized dual-axis tracking system with photosensor performance and analysis. From the obtained results, it is seen that the sun tracking system improves the energy and energy efficiency of the PV panel.ti-junction CPV module promises to accelerate growth in photovoltaic power generation.
Characteristics of the Switching Surge Voltages Induced at Metal Flexible Conduits Due to Ground Faults

This paper presents the transient behavior of the switching surge voltages generated by interruption of DC ground fault currents flowing through metal flexible conduits. All fault circuits consist of line parameters such as resistance, inductance, capacitance and conductance. The use of nonmagnetic metal conduits should be taken into account in order to reduce the inductance of battery charger distribution circuits. The frequency-dependent circuit parameters of metal flexible conduits were measured. The switching surge voltages generated at the ground fault circuit consisted of steel-galvanized alloy and aluminium conduits were investigated. As a result, the impedances of metal flexible conduits are significantly increased over the range of the frequency above 10 kHz and the switching surge voltages generated along aluminium flexible conduit are lower than those along steel-galvanized alloy conduit when DC fault current is interrupted.
A Development of Electronic Type Relay for Low Voltage Circuit Breaker based on Digital Signal Processing

A low voltage circuit breaker protects electrical equipments from over current and short faults of system by cutting the power supply. The breaker use a thermal magnetic type trip device from the past. In recent years, electronic type relays are applied due to useful functions and services. The purpose of this development is full digitalizing of relay functions of a low voltage breaker. It includes separation of current sensor from current transformer, digital signal processing, high speed relaying, and voltage measuring for power meter. The suggestions are tested and implemented by making prototype and testing its all relay functions.
Analysis of the Response Time of a Photoelectric Spot-Type Smoke Detector Depending on the Type of Fires

The fire testing performed for smoke detector model approval in Korea tests only one kind of fire smoke. A photoelectric spot-type smoke detector using Mie scattering is affected by the wavelength of light beam and the particle diameter. According to UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.) 268 standard, this paper analyze the characteristic of the response for a photoelectric spot-type smoke detector on sale in Korea using various fire smokes. Probability that the response time is included in non-defective range is 100% in paper fire, 90% in wood fire and 75% in flammable liquid fire, 90% in wood fire and 75% in flammable liquid fire. According to the estimation for population mean of the response time choosing a confidence level of 99%, a maximum of 19% for wood fire and that of 38% for flammable liquid fire are defective. As the result of analysis of smoke particle, this paper is found that these results are caused by the smoke particles are wide variations in size or have very black.
Protection Characteristics of Two-Stage Cascade SPD Systems

Protection of the electrical and electronic equipment against surges in low voltage AC power distribution systems is based on wide applications of surge protective devices(SPDs). Cascade application of SPDs located at the service entrance of a building and near sensitive equipment is intended to ensure the optimal voltage protection level and energy sharing among cascade SPDs. In this paper, when surges impinge at the service entrance of the building of interest, the protection characteristics of two-stage cascade SPD systems were investigated. The influence of the distance between the upstream and downstream SPDs on the voltage protection level and energy sharing of the two-stage cascade SPD systems were analyzed experimentally. It was found that the energy sharing of two-stage cascade SPD systems strongly depends on the distance between the two SPDs and the component of SPD. As the distance between the two SPDs increases, the energy absorbed by the upstream SPD increases while the energy absorbed by the downstream SPD decreases. Consequently, it is desirable to select the upstream and downstream SPDs having the proper energy capability with due consideration of the distance between the two SPDs.
