Comparative Analysis on Recommended Levels of Illumination in Korea·China·Japan: Focused on Recommended Levels of Illumination for Housing

This study compared the recommended levels of illumination for housing. KS Recommended Levels of Illumination (KS A 3011) in Korea, Recommended Levels of Illumination (GB 50034-2004) in China and Recommended Levels of Illumination (JIS Z 9110) in Japan are compared. The results are as below. First, recommended levels of illumination used in Korea China Japan are suggested by different locations and activities. However, classification for application scope is set differently. There are 10 areas for classification used in Korea, 5 areas in China, and 13 areas in China. When medium levels for classification are included as classification level, total of 15 areas are used for classification in China. Second, when considering there are 15 areas of application scope in China for recommended levels of illumination, there are 7 areas that are commonly used in Korea China Japan. 7 areas include stadium, factories, hospitals, office, shopping center, houses and hospitals. Third, working surface is considered as the height for recommended levels of illumination in Korea China Japan. Korea and Japan consider all working positions, standing and sitting position, when deciding the height. However, China only considers the standing position. Fourth, application scope for recommended levels of illumination for housing are classified in 16 areas in Korea, 5 in China and 18 in Japan. Thus, the application scope for recommended levels of illumination in housing in Korea is similar to Japan. However, there are only 5 areas used in China such as living room, bedroom, dining room, kitchen and sanitary room. Fifth, recommended levels of illumination is classified in 3 levels such as Lowest-Moderate-Highest while China and Japan only have standard recommended levels of illumination. Sixth, when observing recommended levels of illumination by type of activities, Japan classified the activities in greatest detail followed by Korea and then China. Seventh, Recommended levels of illumination differs by each country.
A Study on the Sensibility Evaluation on the Color Temperatures of Electrodeless HID Lamp

An experiment was carried out to evaluate the emotion and sensibility evoked from the different color temperatures(CCT) of electrodeless HID (ELHID) lamp. For this purpose, three ELHID lamps and a metal halide lamp were used as the experimental light sources and thirty Korean adjectives related to the lighting affectiveness were selected for the evaluation. The results showed that ELHID lamps induced different sensibilities according to their color temperature. In particular, 6500 K ELHID was similar to metal halide which has the CCT of 5600 K in the evaluation. Based on the results, we suggested some Korean adjectives and their corresponding English ones which are thought to be suitable for the verbal descriptions of ELHID lamps.
A Study on the Signal Analysis of Corona Discharge on the Polymer Insulator using UV Sensor Array

To prevent any accident in electric power utilities, many researches for inspection and diagnosis deteriorations occurring by corona discharges have been continuously studying. Inspection and diagnosis of electric power utility is very important to prevent an accident. This paper studies a measurement of ultra-violet(UV) ray of corona discharges on polymer insulators using an UV sensor array with an optic lens. The detection of an UV signal begins at 60kV, which is about 37.5% of the breakdown voltage of the polymer insulator and the stronger the high voltage increased to the polymer insulator was. It can be determined that the polymer insulator mounted on a live part must be examined when the discharge risk exceeds approximately 40%. In conclusion, the status of power utilities can be checked using an UV sensor.
A Study for Improving the Power Factor of Distribution Transformer using Condenser Control Circuit

Daily use characteristics of apparent power supplied to distribution transformer can be separated into two different time zone of waking hours and sleeping hours. In sleeping hours, using amount of power is decreasing. The actual curve of power seemed to be quite similar to this kind of separation. Inserting a condenser into a circuit in each different time zone led to maximize power factor of the transformer. The compensating condenser`s on/off time is controlled by hysteresis circuit utilizing op amp and power factor of the transformer was improved from 0.945 to 0.999. As a result, the average of current reduction was 2.53A per hour of transformer.
A Study on Core shape optimization to Improve The Efficiency of High Frequency Transformer for Inverter

The purpose of high frequency transformer in the inverter is to reduce the voltage and current stresses of switch components when it operates at the large conversion ratio. But the loss of transformer is the major contributor in the efficiency of inverter. This paper presents the method of core design to minimize the loss of transformer. The total loss of transformer is minimized by adjusting the effective cross-sectional areas of core. The component ratio of losses are compared by using the finite-element analysis.
A Study on the Fault Location Algorithms on Transmission Line

Most faults that occur on transmission lines are caused by extreme weather with lightning storms in the distance. These are not only prolongs the time of removing and recovering, but also increases economical damages. If faults can be precisely located, maintenance crews can reach them quickly, and remove the faults in time. So, the precise locating of the faulted point on a transmission line is very important to improve the system reliability, and decreases economic damages as an inherent consequence of long term outages. Also, fault location methods are becoming of much importance for utilities and research. In this paper, two single-terminal impedance-based fault location techniques will be investigated to show the reliability and evaluated the performance of reactance and Takagi method by using MATHCAD program simulations.
Case Studies of Energy-Saving Method for Renewable Energy Installation in Sewage Treatment plant

Sewage treatment facilities can purify sewage enough to be send to river or sea water, that discharged from human life and industrial activities. In the sewage treatment process, we can get large amount of by-product energy resources and materials such as heat of sewage, digester gas and purified water etc., it can be utilized by applying various technologies thereby we can reduce energy consumption in the process. In this paper, it was analyzed using the data collected from the operational case study for the energy savings effect that can be obtained when using the digester gas, one of the by-product materials of sewage treatment process, for electric power generation. Cost of 623million won is an annual reduction of 4,032MWh corresponding 9% of the annual electricity consumption of the sewage treatment plant, such an alternative power generation using digester gas was proposed in this paper has been verified the feasibility of the proposed reduction of energy.
A Study on Cogging Torque Reduction of Dual Stator Radial Flux Permanent Magnet Generator Using the Permanent Magnet Displacement Design of Rotor

In this paper, we propose the cogging toque reduction technique of the dual stator radial flux permanent magnet generator. The cogging toque is caused by the torque ripple increase and vibration and noise of the generator. And it is important factor determining cut-in speed of the small wind generator. To reduce cogging torque, permanent magnet displacement was studied. And the theory of the permanent magnet displacement was formulated and the cogging torque reduction according to the permanent magnet displacement was confirmed through the finite element method.
Design of Silent Discharging Ozonizer using Algorithm for Sinusoidal Filter

In this paper, a control method using Sinusoidal Filter Controller of Silent Discharging Ozonizer is proposed and also the control methode performed robust control against variation of capacitance, command voltage and frequency. As the control system for this methode, Sinusoidal Filter Algorism can be simplified configuration of the power supply by using a low-pass filter. Through simulations and experiment results, the proposed control methode compensates for the high voltage waveform to the ozonizer.
A Fundamental Study on the Impulse Responses of Ground Rod Attendant upon Soil Discharges

This paper deals with the fundamental characteristics of transient and conventional ground impedances associated with soil discharges when the lightning impulse voltage was applied to a small-sized ground rod. The potential rise responses of the test ground rod to impulse currents were observed. The current-voltage (I-V)curves, transient and conventional ground impedance curves were examined.. To analyze the transient behaviors of ground rod attendant upon soil discharges, the impulse responses of ground rod were compared with those of non-inductive resistor. As a consequence, the potential rise and impedance of ground rod were reduced and the currents dispersed into the earth were increased due to soil discharges near the ground rod. Soil discharges are classified into two regimes; ionization and breakdown phenomena. The potential rise and impulse impedance of ground rod are significantly decreased by breakdown processes in soil.
A Study on Look alike Offender Detection Using Hidden Face Information

In this paper, I propose a method for detection of look-alike offenders by using hidden face information. For extraction of moving objects, PRA matching is used to extract moving components, and brightness changes can be dealt with by an adaptive threshold adjusting in the proposed method. Moving objects extracted in the territory of the face region is extracted using the complexion, facial area, eyes, nose, mouth. The extracted information detected by the presence of these characteristics were likely to help judge a person. Results of the extracted face makes the recognition rate of possible murderers 90% so the usefulness of the proposed method was confirmed.
A Study on Output and Design of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with Dual-gap

This paper suggests the dual-gap for generating power and increasing the torque of a direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous motor in a hybrid-cycle. To consider easy coil winding, we applied a structure of dual-gap for the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Because the torque of PMSM with the dual-gap is very large, we are designed the appropriate specifications of the PMSM by selected the appropriate dual-gap slot and poles combination. The prototype model is selected by design theory for increasing torque and maximizing output power of PMSM. And the detailed structure design of the model was designed by the loading distribution method. The PMSM models were analyzed by finite element method. Finally, we have suggested appropriate rotor structure has benefit to further increasing torque and prevent decreasing of the output power in PMSM with dual-gap.
