A Study on a Control Method for Small BLDC Motor Sensorless Drive with the Single Phase BEMF and the Neutral Point

Brushless Direct Current(BLDC) Motor is essential to measure a rotor position because of that this motor type needs to synchronize the rotor's position and changeover phase current instead of a brush and commutator used on the existing dc motor. Recently, many researches have studied on sensorless control drive for BLDC motor. The conventional control methods are a compensation value dq, Kalman filter, Fuzzy logic, Neurons neural network, and the like. These methods has difficulties of detecting BEMF accurately at low speed because of low BEMF voltage and switching noise. And also, the operation is long and complex. So, it is required a high-performance microprocessor. Therefore, it is not suitable for a small BLDC motor sensorless drive. This paper presents control methods suitable for economic small BLDC motor sensorless drive which are an improved design of the BEMF detection circuit, simplifying a complex algorithm and computation time reduction. The improved motor sensorless drive is verified stability and validity through being designed, manufactured and analyzed.
The Influence on Traction Return Current by Pantograph Detachment Frequency of High-speed Train

Currently it is major problem of electric railway with increasing drive speed such as the arc generated by the pantograph detachment and the distortion current in the motor-block high speed switching. When physical contact between the pantograph and the catenary line is separated, the pantograph detachment arcing occurs and it makes up the conductive noise to the return feeder. We made the EMTP modeling of the railway traction system and the pantograph arc by circuit elements and switches. The influence of pantograph detachment frequency is investigated by changing some frequencies. The over-current occurs in each detachment and it oscillates some time at beginning and stabilizes gradually. The magnitude of over-current is decided by instantaneous value of existing traction return current. If the detachment occurs at a point of peak value or distortion current, the over-current will be more harmful to the power systems connected with the return feeder and will become to arise with increasing detachment frequency.
A Study on Risk of Electric Shock from Damaged Grid Connection Cable in Floating Photovoltaic System

Recently, many renewable energy generating businesses are ongoing progress due to the introduction of the RPS(Renewable Portfolio Standards) as well as the needs of environmentally friendly energy resources. Researches on photovoltaic system are actively being processed since the photovoltaic system is relatively easy to install and becomes commercialized in many domestic application areas. Furthermore, the floating photovoltaic system is likely to be installed more actively since the conventional photovoltaic system requires relatively large areas of land. Also, the floating photovoltaic system is more efficient than photovoltaic system installed in land due to the operation in lower temperature. However, safety problems such as electric shock could arise since the cable should be installed in the water. In this paper, the leakage current and the voltage rising are measured and analyzed for the case when the cables are damaged connecting the floating photovoltaic system to the grid.
Study on Analysis for Power Consumption and Charge/Discharge Effect with BESS in AC High-Speed Electric Railway System

The power consumption pattern of high-speed railway has rarely during night time. But, during service time, the power is consumed irregularly related to train operation. Especially certain unusual about 1-2 days of service time interval to indicate the power consumption is rapidly growing phenomenon, which causes the capacity of the power contract is the annual electricity bill to rise rapidly as the cause. Normally, amount of peak power consumption bill rate at railway substation is over 20% of total electrical bill. Therefore, high-speed railway substation is expected to be considerably larger savings by reducing the peak power of the default charge(demand power).
The Study on the design of Claw Pole Stepping Motor considering Axial flux

A claw pole stepping motor is widely used in various fields such as a compact optical disk drive, computer peripherals, digital cameras, office automation(OA), handheld mobile devices, because it has the suitable structure for compact motor. However 3D analysis is essential for design of Claw pole stepping motor because of axial flux path. Thus, in general, it takes a lot of time in the design of Claw pole motor. In this paper, magnetic equivalent circuit considering axial flux was proposed to reduce design time of Claw pole motor and we has designed by using the magnetic equivalent circuit. In addition, in oder to verify the study, design model was verified by 3D FEM simulation and experiment.
A Development of Soundness Evaluation Index for Poor Appearance Distribution Concrete Poles

This study was to secure the safety of poor appearance distribution concrete poles effectively and to reduce the replacement costs of them by developing a soundness evaluation index. The researcher of this study investigated poor appearance types of concrete pole, collected 53 of test samples, and tested pole strength. As a result of strength test, only 17 percent of poor appearance concrete poles were below 2.0 of safety factor spec. As results of multiple regression analysis, it is verified that surface air void, horizontal crack, net-shaped crack, elapsed year, vertical crack, and deterioration in concrete compressive strength have statistically negative effects on safety factor of concrete poles in a significant level. The researcher set up a soundness evaluation index by using multiple regression equation, and suggested that poor appearance concrete poles should be replaced or reinforced only in case of soundness evaluation score of 150 or above.
Study on the Synthesis of Graphene Nanowall by Controlling Electric Field in a Radio Frequency Plasma CVD Process

This work carried out for the effective synthesis characteristics of graphene nanowall film by controlling the electric field in a RF plasma CVD process. For that, the bipolar bias voltage was applied to the substrate such as Si and glass materials for the best chemical reaction of positive and negative charges existing in the plasma. For supplying the seed formation sites on substrate and removing the oxidation layer on the substrate surface, the electron bombardment into substrates was performed by a positive few voltage in hydrogen plasma. After that, hydrocarbon film, which is not a graphene nanowall, was deposited on substrates under a negative bias voltage with hydrogen and methane gases. At this step, the film on substrates could not easily identify due to its transparent characteristics. However, the transparent film was easily changed into graphene nanowall by the final hydrogen plasma treatment process. The resultant raman spectra shows the existence of significant large 2D peaks corresponding to the graphene.
Features of Transient Overvoltages Observed at 22.9kV Consumer's Substation

The aims of this paper are to characterize the transient overvoltages(TOVs) and to evaluate the risk occurring at 22.9kV consumer's substation. The measurements of lightning- and switching-caused TOVs were made during Mar. 2013 and Feb. 2014. As a consequence, 47 events of TOVs were recorded and 4 of them were higher than the input voltage envelope(IVE) of the information technology industry council(ITI) curve. The measured TOVs are characterized by longer front times and longer durations compared to the
standard impulse voltage waveform, and some of them represent bipolar waves with lower oscillation frequencies. It suggests that the test of non-standard impulse voltage waveforms is needed for effective risk assessments of power apparatus. Lightning- and switching-caused TOVs exceeding IVE of ITI curve are induced at the secondary of 22.9kV potential transformer(PT). We may, therefore, conclude that the surge protection devices should be applied at the secondary of PT and the surge absorbers should be installed at the primary of VCB or PT. The results presented in this paper could be useful to design the reasonable insulation coordination for 22.9kV consumer's substation.
Applying Hybrid Type Energy Storage System in AC High Speed Railway

In case of DC railway, value of ESS(Energy Storage System) is already approved. Whereas AC railway system, there are a lot of differences such as system design and operation pattern. Therefore there is doubt about AC ESS usefulness. Especially, regenerative energy can return to the source. So in case of AC 25kV system, it is necessary to consider different operation algorithm compare to DC railway system. In this paper ESS which is installed in AC high-speed railway was introduced. Power consumption pattern of High speed trains were analyzed, proper storage material was reviewed and operation algorithm was suggested. Super capacitor and Battery was used with hybrid type. Super capacitor was used to handle short term energy movement because of its prompt response and battery was used to handle long term energy movement because of its high energy density. Also in case of operation algorithm, phase control method was upgraded compare to voltage magnitude detection method.
A Study on the Application of Micro Hydro Power Generator at the Water Treatment Plant

Inflow or outflow from the water treatment plant and the sewage water has potential energy. If this potential energy can be converted into electrical energy by water turbine generator, it can help to save energy because of the high capacity utilization. So recently, micro hydro power plant is reviewed in the water treatment facility. If generation capacity is low, induction generator is primarily used. If output capacity is low, generated power is supplied to the inside load. Induction generator can cause voltage drop by the inrush current at a start-up and requires reactive power for magnetization. In this study, we analyzed the flow of power and voltage variation against inrush current that occurs when the induction generator starts under the terms that loads of linear and non-linear of the water purification plant are used. Analysis results are that the voltage drop is within an allowable range and the power factor is slightly reduced by the need of reactive power.
A New Flyback Converter Using the Cross Flux of Transformer

This research proposes a new type of flyback converter topology based on magnetic circuit sharing. The proposed flyback topology uses a transformer involving shared magnetic flux, and its characteristic is magnetic flux cancelation by cross magnetic flux in the magnetic flux-sharing part of the core. The new topology aims to reduce the volume of transformer by reducing the cross section of the core. Compared to conventional converters using only 1 transformer, its circuit configuration involving the serial input and parallel output of 2 flyback coils allowed increased converter insulation strength. In addition, the adoption of interleaved switching method achieved the improvement of output voltage ripple, while magnetic circuit sharing reduced by 50% the cross section of core where magnetic circuit was shared.
A Study on the Operation of Distribution System for Increasing Grid-Connected Distributed Generation

When DG interconnection into network is examined, details of the review are overvoltage, protective device malfunction, etc. In the case of protective device malfunction, replacing protective device into bi-directional protective device and installation NGR are the solution. Overvoltage at interconnection point occurs because the load is relatively less than DG output. When overvoltage at interconnection point occurs, DG interconnection is not permitted because this overvoltage affect other customers. Interconnection by installation new distribution line is one solution but it costs much money. Without installation new investment, change of NOP(Normal Open Point) position is a possible solution about DG interconnection into network.
Hybrid Type X-Ray Generator Using EDLC for Fluoroscopy X-Ray System

A diagnostic fluoroscopy X-ray system uses a 32kW or greater X-ray generator for obtaining real-time moving images and high-resolution images. Fluoroscopy X-ray systems have to use a high-capacity AC power source to perform long-time low-power fluoroscopy and short-time high-power spot exposure. In this paper, we propose a hybrid type X-ray generator for fluoroscopy X-ray system which can perform fluoroscopy and spot exposure with a low-capacity AC power source and an energy storage device. The characteristics of energy storage devices are compared and each energy storage device is modelled to equivalent circuit. And the characteristics of available energy are analyzed as a function of output voltage and power. A 32kW class hybrid X-ray generator with EDLC as an energy storage device for fluoroscopy X-ray system was constructed, and its validity was verified by means of simulations and experiments.
Implementation of a unified live streaming based on HTML5 for an IP camera

This paper presents a unified live-streaming method based on Hypertext Mark-up Language 5(HTML5) for an IP camera which is independent of browsers of clients and is implemented with open-source libraries. Currently, conventional security systems based on analog CCTV cameras are being modified to newer surveillance systems utilizing IP cameras. These cameras offer remote surveillance and monitoring regardless of the device being used at any time, from any location. However, this approach needs live-streaming protocols to be implemented in order to verify real-time video streams and surveillance is possible after installation of separate plug-ins or special software. Recently, live streaming is being conducted through HTML5 using two different standard protocols: HLS and DASH, that works with Apple and Android products respectively. This paper proposes a live-streaming approach that is linked on either of the two protocols which makes the system independent with the browser or OS. The client is possible to monitor real-time video streams without the need of any additional plug-ins. Moreover, by implementing open source libraries, development costs and time were economized. We verified usefulness of the proposed approach through mobile devices and extendability to other various applications of the system.
