Analysis of Transmission Spectrum Characteristics of Second-Order Fiber Flexible Comb Filter Based on Polarization-Diversity Loop

In this paper, we propose a second-order fiber flexible comb filter based on a polarization-diversity loop(PDL). The proposed filter consists of a polarization beam splitter, four half-wave plates(HWPs), and three high birefringence fiber(HBF) segments. In the previous Solc-type second-order filter based on the PDL, HBF segments were fusion-spliced with a fixed angle offset between their principal axes with each other. But, the proposed filter implemented by inserting two HWPs between three HBF segments has a great flexibility in adjusting relative angular difference between the principal axes of two adjacent HBF segments. Owing to this flexibility, second-order transmission spectra, which had a channel spacing of ~0.8nm, could be interleaved by controlling the orientation angles of four HWPs. The output transmission spectra of the proposed filter were theoretically analyzed and experimentally verified.
Design of Adaptive Current Control Circuits for LEDs

An effective way to ensure that LEDs produce wanted light output is to use a current driving topology, because the brightness of LEDs is directly related to their current. However, this topology may lead to the lifetime shortening of a illumination system because over-currents may flow through non-damaged LEDs in case some LEDs are damaged. This paper presents an adaptive current control circuits for LEDs, which protect LEDs in a good state by limiting the driving currents according to the number of damaged ones. The proposed control circuits consist of a simple constant-current driver and a micro-controller which monitors the voltage of LED array without any auxiliary current sensors for fault diagnosis. And the driving current is automatically controlled into 6-levels according to the number of failures.
Development of Outdoor 50W-LED Module using Heat-pipe and Stack-fin

We proposed 50W-LED modules of using Heat-pipe and Stack-fin and produced LED modules was evaluated heat dissipation characteristics with comparison of the conventional die-casting type. It verified the application of products by applying it to 150W-LED road luminaires through simulation. The LED module was measures aimed design temperature of the Stack-fin and showed 26% upward heat dissipation effect than a conventional die-casting type. The luminous efficacy of 150W-LED road luminaires using this LED module reached over 112lm/W, and the simulation results showed average of horizontal luminance, overall luminance uniformity(
) and lane luminance uniformity(
) that is suitable for five-lane road with the KS standards.
Removal of bias and conjugate image using the modified conoscopic holography

Conoscopic holography, which consists of two linear polarizers and two wave plates, and an uniaxial crystal, is incoherent holographic technology for three-dimensional display. In the uniaxial crystal, the wave from object divides into extraordinary and ordinary waves and phase difference between two waves is caused by the different refractive index of two waves. Four intensity patterns, which are made by phase difference, are obtained using LCLV(liquid crystal light valve) and conoscopic holography system. By combining four intensity patterns, the complex hologram without bias and conjugate image. In this paper, we propose the optimized system, which consists of a wave plate and a linear polarizer, and uniaxial crystal. In the proposed system, it doesn't need LCLV. By adjusting the azimuth angle of a linear polarizer and a wave plate, we derive four intensity patterns in recording plane. We demonstrate theoretically that the complex hologram with bias and a conjugate image is obtained using the proposed system.
Investigation of Glass Substrate Sealing for ECL Application using Laser Welding Technology

In this work, we reported fabrication of sealing the glass substrate using laser treatment at low temperature for electrochemical luminescence (ECL) cell. The laser treatment at temperature is using laser diode. The glass substrate sealing by laser treatment tested at 3-10W, 2-5 mm/s for build and tested. The sealing laser treatment method will allow associate coordination between the two glass substrate was enclosed. The effect of laser treatment to sealing the glass substrate was found to have cracks and air gap at best thickness of about 550-600 im for condition 3 W, 3 mm/s. The surface of sealing was roughness which was not influent to electrodes It can reduce the cracks, crevices and air gaps as well, improves the performance viscosity in butter bus bar electrodes. Therefore, it is more effective viscosity between two FTO glasses substrate.
Review of Insulation Performance in Synthetic Air and Dry Air for High Voltage Equipment in Distribution Class

This paper examines the insulation performance of synthetic air and dry air. This examination was conducted based on dielectric strength in uniform and non-uniform field, electric field distribution by interior structure and defects in gas insulation switchgear (GIS) and insulation performance in different temperatures. From this review, it was found that eco-insulation gas required to possess low moisture content for power equipment in the distribution class. The results of this paper are valuable to ensure the insulation design and insulation reliability of GIS using air.
Modified-PO Method to Improve the MPPT Performance of PV System

This paper proposes the method which is improved a performance of PO MPPT control in PV system. The PO method is continually changed voltage toward direction that increases power, and if output power is decreased by changing voltage, a power of the conventional PO method is changed to a power before one step. These operations causes reduce of MPPT performance. Therefore, this paper proposes the MPPT method that can be improved the performance of the conventional PO method. When voltage is changed to direction of reducing power, the method proposed in this paper is changed to the voltage the opposite direction of twice step size. The MPPT performance of proposed method in this paper is compared with conventional PO method and proved the validity of this paper using these results.
A Study on Safe Permanent Joint Type Multiple Socket-Outlets Development without Soldering Crimped Connection

Normally, multiple socket-outlet is manufactured with soldered, welded permanent connection (termination). Because this procedure is very non-environmental and requires many labor forces, many companies skip this process. To solve this these problems, this research had to design permanent joint type multiple socket-outlet, develop safer multiple socket-outlet than is sold in markets. Progressing this research, we took 3 steps. First, we had to design device for fixing a frame suitable for multiple socket-outlet. Second, this multiple socket-outlet must pass fundamental standards through international standard (IEC 60884-1) and Korean standard (K 60884-1) tests. Third, it had to pass both several mechanical and electrical tests which is more strict than fundamental standards and vibration and impact tests following KS standards for enhancing its safety. After finishing 3 steps, we could obtain objective and fair data, develop environmental permanent joint type multiple socket-outlet without soldering crimped connection.
Study on Emergency Generator Capacity Selection(PG3) in the Chemical Plant

PG and RG methods are widely known method for calculating the capacity of the emergency generator in construction electrical installation. PG and RG methods are mainly used as a saving a life, fire protection, fire fighting in construction. Because no long distance between the emergency generator and electric motor feeder, the relatively small motor power in construction electrical installation, the capacity of generator in PG and RG methods are little problem of voltage and reactive power of generator. However in many cases the application of the PG and RG method is difficult in the Chemical Plant because it is long distance between the generator and the motor Feeder and motor capacity is very large. Motor starting power factor is about 0.2 lagging power factor and motor starting current is about 6times during motor staring. Also Most of the staring current component is a reactive power component. therefore, it is many cases that lack of reactive power and excess of allowable voltage drop limit and After selection of emergency diesel generator, problems happen during motor starting. Therefore, to be selection of effective emergency generator, active generator power, reactive power and the required reactive power during large motor starting should be considered in chemical plant. It is also required of the verification process through simulation because hand calculation is very difficult considering study cases.
A Study of Seamless Power Supply using EDLC on Battery Change of Smartphone

Certainly, we are living in a true mobile society. At the end of 2014, approximately 40million 560thousand people are subscribed to smartphone services in Korea, using more than 2000MB of mobile data per a person. The use of smartphone is expected to increase. Moreover, smartphone moves toward becoming a requisite for modern people. Under the circumstances, high-speed communication services such as LTE provide high quality services anywhere and anytime and, furthermore, the development of high performances of the application makes the life patterns of modern people link directly to smartphone. Almost every day, new creative services are being introduced and the demands of on-line streaming services such as high-performance game and YouTube are increasing day after day. However, although smartphones are getting smarter and high quality services are rapidly growing, consumers still complain about the insufficient usage time caused by the capacity of batteries. In order to solve this problem, this thesis suggests EDLC(Electric Double-Layer Capacitor) uses as a supplemental power supply to keep the continuity of work while switching batteries. Through this approach, the running time of smartphone becomes longer as the number of batteries without power off and the purpose of this study is to maximize the convenience of using smartphone by eliminating the initialization of memories and the loss of time of rebooting while batteries are switched.
A Proposal on the Development Method of a New Lightning Warning System for Effective Alerts

We examine the standalone lightning warning system (LWS) and its warning performances for three years. This system acquires and analyzes the data of cloud-to-ground strike (CG), intra-cloud discharge (IC) and electrostatic field (EF) to produce prior warnings with respect to the impending arrival of CG in the area of concern (AOC). The warnings in this system are carried out based on the fixed two areas method. To evaluate warning performances, we analyzed the statistics of warnings with probability of detection (POD) and false alarm ratio (FAR). Based on the previous study, we revised the trigger and clear conditions of lightning warning for improving the performances of the system. As a result of this revision, POD increased from 0.18 to 0.44 and FAR decreased from 0.96 to 0.78 during the summer of 2014. However, the LWS was not possible to trigger effective alerts (EA) because there was no effective lead time (LT) for the fixed two areas method. Problems related to the low detection efficiency of IC and the use of EF data for warnings still decreased POD and increased FAR. Hence, we proposed the development method of a new LWS (NLWS) that would be composed of integrated weather data, the flexible two areas and the user software in order to trigger EA and improve warning performances.
Observation and Characteristics of Ozonizer using Injection Needle Electrode

Ozone is a powerful disinfectant and oxidizing agent, and it is used in a wide range of applications, such as waste water treatment, food processing, etc.. There is also a great potential of using ozone in new emerging medical applications, such as ozone dentistry and ozone oxygen therapy. For these purposes, simple, small, compact and efficient sources of ozone are needed. In this study, in order to increase the current-voltage range of the discharge and to avoid the overheating of the gas in the ozonizer we suggested ozonizer of injection needle and plate electrode type(INP Type) with the gas through the needle. A ozonizer of INP type have been investigated by focusing on ozone concentration and yield according to flow rates and Gap of two electrodes. The results of studies of ozone production for DC corona discharge in oxygen at atmospheric pressure about the ozonizer of INP type. The ozone concentration and the generation yield increased as the gap of two electrodes and gas flow were decreased. Also, when the gap of two electrodes and gas flow with no change, the ozone concentration and generation yield each have variation of direct proportion and inverse proportion with discharge voltage.
A Rejection of Harmonic Ripples for d-q Transformation

This paper presents a simple notch filter, which is so suitable for three-phase unbalanced and distorted power line. In the d-q synchronous transformation, three-phase unbalanced and distorted voltages generate lots of ripple voltages on d-q axes. The ripples make disturbances on controllers such as PLL of phase tracking. Unbalanced state makes ripple of double the frequency of power line. Odd harmonics 5th and 7th on the line make even 4th and 6th ripples on d-q axes due to the rotating reference frame, respectively. Cascaded two comb filters, delay lines 1/4T and 1/8T, are adopted for the ripple rejection. The filter rejects harmonics 2nd, 4th, 6th, 10th and so on. They are very effective to remove the ripples of both unbalance and distortion. The filter, implemented by two FIFOs on an experimental system, is adopted on a PLL controller of power line phase tracking. Through the simulation and experimental results, performance of the proposed comb filter has been validated.
A Study on the Enhancement of Accuracy of Network Analysis Applications in Energy Management Systems

This paper describes a new method for enhancing the accuracy of network analysis applications in energy management systems. Topology processing, state estimation, power flow analysis, and contingency analysis play a key factor in the stable and reliable operation of power systems. In this respect, the aim of topology processing is to provide the electrical buses and the electrical islands with the actual state of the power system as input data. The results of topology processing is used to input of other applications. New method, which includes the topology error analysis based on inconsistency check, coherency check, bus mismatch check, and outaged device check is proposed to enhance the accuracy of network analysis. The proposed methodology is conducted by energy management systems and the Korean power systems have been utilized for the test systems.
