A Study on Evaluation Construct Model Extraction of Building Exterior Lighting applying Media Facade and Image Evaluation

In this study, we derive an evaluation structure and 18 Valuation vocabulary for the media facade lighting conditions. In addition, this study deduced the applicable elements that could be applied in time of building nightscape lighting design using media facade by conducting affective evaluation. The research results are as follows: It was found that the image axis of "Dynamic, Colorful" showed the lighting change speed was fast with diverse application of lighting color, and its evaluation object applied by general emphasis, vertical emphasis, partial emphasis lighting method was highly assessed. In addition, it was found that "Luxurious, Unusual" axis showed lighting change speed was slow with the application of lighting color in warm hue series, and its evaluation object applied by line lighting, dot lighting, general emphasis lighting methods was highly assessed. Lastly, it was found that "Soft, Secure" image axis showed the lighting change speed was slow with the application of pastel tone lighting color, and the evaluation object applied by general emphasis lighting method was highly assessed.
Study on Fiber Polarimetric Vibration Sensor Based on Polarization-Maintaining Photonic Crystal Fiber

In this paper, we implemented a polarimetric vibration sensor using a Sagnac birefringence interferometer composed of polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber(PM-PCF). By changing the amplitude and frequency of vibration applied to PM-PCF employed as the sensor head of the proposed sensor, sensor responses to various types of vibration were investigated. First, the vibration characteristic of the sensor was explored for a single frequency in a frequency range from 1 to 3000Hz with a cylindrical piezoelectric transducer, and then the sensor response to naturally damped vibration was examined by utilizing a metal cantilever. It was experimentally observed that the sensor output signal was deteriorated by more than 3dB at ~1900Hz in the single frequency vibration measurement with a minimum detectable strain perturbation of
at 1500Hz and the peak value of the sensor output signal was proportional to the strength of initially applied stress in the naturally damped vibration measurement.
A Lighting direction and Luminous Flux Control for Energy-efficiency under Illuminance Requirements in Indoor Lighting Systems

The management of energy resources for efficient utilization of the energy resources while reducing the system costs is a critical technical issue. Among many kinds of the energy resource management, the energy reduction for indoor lighting systems is getting much concern as a large portion of energy consumption has been made for indoor lightings. In this paper, an energy-efficient lighting control scheme for indoor lighting systems in order to reduce the energy consumption by controlling the luminous flux and the lighting direction under the illuminance constraints is proposed. With the use of the user location information for the luminaire which is closely located to the user, the proposed scheme firstly sets the light direction of the luminaire to be aligned to the user location. Then, an optimization problem to find the luminous flux of each luminaire is formulated in order to minimize the luminous flux sum of the luminaires with the constraints for the dynamic ragne of the luminous flux, and the light flux for each luminaire is determined by the solution of the problem. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the luminaire control scheme with only the luminous flux control in the evaluation of satisfaction of the required illuminance level.
Secondary Optical System Design for Omnidirectional LED Bulb

Secondary optical system designed for LED bulb which emits light in all directions was simulated with Energy Star standards. Components of the optical system were LED light source, the cover of the LED bulb and reflector which is to confirm the diffuser plate and LightTools software was used to design the illumination optics. The main points of the secondary optical system design are the location of the LED light source, the shape of the LED bulb cover, the location of the reflection plate, and the scattering properties of the diffusing plate. Mechanism of the LED bulb is that the light emitted from the light source move on to the backward after reflected by the coated light cover from the inside and then the reflected light is scattered by the diffuser plate. The LED bulb was designed to satisfy the standard light distribution and color specifications of the Energy Star(IES LM-79-08).
Optimal Operation Method of Microgrid System Using DS Algorithm

This paper presents an application of Differential Search (DS) meta-heuristic optimization algorithm for optimal operation of micro grid system. DS algorithm has the benefit of high convergence rate and precision compared to other optimization methods. The micro grid system consists of a wind turbine, a diesel generator, and a fuel cell. The simulation is applied to micro grid system only. The wind turbine generator is modeled by considering the characteristics of variable output. One day load data which is divided every 20 minute and wind resource for wind turbine generator are used for the study. The method using the proposed DS algorithm is easy to implement, and the results of the convergence performance are better than other optimization algorithms.
A Study On The Stator Slot Shape Design of BLDC Motor

In this paper, we studied an optimal design and efficiency improvement of the BLCD motor used in home electronic appliance. The number of stator slots is chosen depending on the rotor poles, phase number, and the winding configuration. In general, a fractional slots/pole design is preferred to minimize cogging torque. To reduce the winding resistance, we reduced the coil length and we improved the coil space factor. We proposed three types of stator slot shape design for the optimal BLDC motor design. One of them, U-type slot shape is a best optimal design, it proved by the simulated and tested. Optimal design of essential parameters aiming at high winding factor are presented to create for a high-quality system implementation. Design analysis is verified by testing and building a prototype motor.
Position Error Compensation Method for Resolvers using Kalman Filter

As rotor position is a reference of coordinate in vector control of PMSM, the information of exact rotor position is required. To measure the position of motors, hall-effect sensors, encoders, resolvers, etc. are used. Among these sensors, resolvers have good endurance in the variation of circumstance and can be used in a wide range of temperature, but resolvers are less exact than encoders. In addition, resolvers have a drawback that the output signal contains periodic error components. Thus, this paper proposes a compensation method for the unique position error in resolvers using Kalman filter to achieve high performance control of PMSM. The validity of the proposed scheme is demonstrated through simulation studies.
A Study on the Controllable Snubber for Switching Loss Reduction in Interleaved Fly-Back Converter

This paper proposes a new switching algorithm for an controllable clamp snubber to improve the efficiency of a fly-back converter system. This system uses an controllable clamp method for the snubber circuit for the efficiency and reliability of the system. However, the active clamp snubber circuit has the disadvantage that system efficiency is decreased by switch operating time because of heat loss in resonance between the snubber capacitor and leakage inductance. To address this, this paper proposes a new switching algorithm. The proposed algorithm is a technique to reduce power consumption by reducing the resonance of the snubber switch operation time. Also, the snubber switch is operated at zero voltage switching by turning on the snubber switch before main switch turn-off. Experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed controllable clamp control algorithm.
Analysis on Induced Surge Voltage of Electric Car Line affected by Lightning in Rapid-Transit Railway System

Lightning is one of hazards affecting the rapid-transit railway system. There are two effects, which are direct lightning surge to electric car line and induced lightning surge. Protection methods for the direct lightning surge are studied with various occasions, however, study of induced lightning surge is insufficient in spite of a large or small effects. In this paper, it is analysed the way that serge voltage is induced to electric car line by lightning strikes. By modeling the propagation process and the coupling phenomenon of electromagnetic wave produced by lightning strikes, it is achieved to make integrative circuit model combined with existing electric car model. The study is conducted into three different waveform of electromagnetic wave produced by lightning; rectangular wave, double exponential distribution wave, triangle wave. It is also simulated that the inducing serge is coupled to electric car line in an arbitrary location. The simulation results in that, when rapidly changing rectangular wave is supplied, maximum power is induced to electric car line.
Development of an Algorithm for Detecting High Impedance Fault in Low Voltage DC Distribution System using Accumulated Energy of Fault Current

Recently, new Low Voltage DC (LVDC) power distribution systems have been constantly researched as uses of DC in end-user equipment are increased. As in conventional AC distribution system, High Impedance Fault (HIF) which may cause a failure of protective relay can occur in LVDC distribution system as well. It, however, is hard to be detected since change in magnitude of current due to the fault is too small to detect the fault by the protective relay using overcurrent element. In order to solve the problem, this paper presents an algorithm for detecting HIF using accumulated energy in LVDC distribution system. Wavelet Singular Value Decomposition (WSVD) is used to extract abnormal high frequency components from fault current and accumulated energy of high frequency components is considered as the element to detect the fault. LVDC distribution system including AC/DC and DC/DC converter is modeled to verify the proposed algorithm using ElectroMagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) software. Simulation results considering various conditions show that the proposed algorithm can be utilized to effectively detect HIF.
Study on Load Following Characteristics of Generators during Start-up of Induction Motor Load in Isolated System

Recently, not only in the Middle East and Southeast Asia but in African area, too, industrial plant construction is being actually done. But unlike in Korea, a lot of them are small-scale isolated industrial plants. And because of the characteristics of industrial plants, induction motors` load forms a large part. The influence of stability resulted from the maneuver and operation of induction motors` load may lead to serious result in the isolated system. This study analyzed it through mathematical modeling on induction motors` maneuver phenomena in the isolated system, realized a case system with the E-TAP program, and simulated load follow performances according to the control variables of a generator inside the isolated system.
An Analysis of Economy Improvement Method and Power Demand Effect when the Battery is Applied to the Building Based on the Measured Energy Consumption

Recently, ESS became efficient device to stabilize electric power supply system with the development SG related technology. In fact. there are some constraints to supply ESS, because of the high cost and required space, but rapid technology development for ESS will make it more useful soon. So, through this paper, we analyzed the benefit and demand effect when the battery is applied the building based on the measured energy consumption. After that, we got the conclusion that there is a volume limit in ESS application, in a benefit view point. And we realized that there is a demand violation, and the Cost-based BEMS is the best solution to enhance the effect of ESS application.
Study on the Economic Analysis for Non-Prediction Algorithm with the Energy Storage System

Prediction algorithm of the energy storage system in accordance with the load pattern can cause economic loss in case of a failure prediction. In addition, algorithm that uses TOU(Time of Use) based on the revelation by the power electric charge which covers most simply is an inefficient operation because it is only for the purpose of reducing the peak power. In this paper, we introduced a non-prediction algorithm with a conventional TOU in order to solve this problem operating the energy storage system economic and efficient.
